LiveCycle Form - Extend Features to Reader to allow save

I created a PDF form in LiveCycle Designer ES2.  I want to allow users to update form and save, but I can't figure out how to extend these features in LiveCycle.  I can open the PDF form in Acrobat X Pro, but when I attempt to edit I'm forced to use LiveCycle Designer.  There is no option to edit in Acrobat X Pro.

If you use this feature on a web site or for many users, be sure to read the license restrictions (they start at about 500 uses of the form).

  • Preserving PDF version after Save during "Extend Features in Reader"

    Hi,
I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and I'm attempting to make a fillable form that needs to be compatible with Acrobat 5 (PDF v1.4) . I can make the form, but when I extend features in reader, the copy it saves is PDF v1.6 (Acrobat 7). Is there any way to maintain the PDF version when doing this, or is this not possible with V1.4 PDFs?
    Thanks.

"Reader enabling" was introduced with version 1.5 (Acrobat 6).
    Be well...

  • Dynamically Fill PDF form (extended features enabled forms)

    Hi Tarek
Firstly let me say thank you for the great help you are doing through the forum.
With Google, I did a very long search to find out how to fill a PDF form from a database. I achieved this using the iTextSharp dll. But this dll not supporting adobe extended features. thatsy once i filled forms using this class, result form will be flat form and we cant fill it manually again. even this will disable adobe extended features when i open it in adobe reader.
I am working with a project to simplify immigration process (CANADA). I already have all immigration forms created using LiveCycle. That means when i open these form in free Adobe Reader I can fill the form manually and can save locally (offline).
    My Workflow as follows
    1. I am working with .Net Frame Work 2, Visual Studio 2005, Windows Applications (not Web/ASP)
    2. I have fillable forms designed using Adobe LiveCycle (I can fill the form manually and can save locally (offline) using Adobe Reader).
    3. I have to dynamically fill these forms with data from a database (data is already available and its almost achieved using iTextSharp Dll)
    4. Once its dynamically filled, I will send these forms to client through email, because some of the data should be filled by client.
    5. client can open these forms in free Adobe Reader and they can fill and save these forms(because Adobe extended feature enabled in this form, so they can fill and save in Adobe Reader)
    6. Once they fill and save the form, they will send back final form to us through emal (no Online Submit required).
    7. We will check it and finalize, take printout and attach to our document management system.
    8. I can't use any great technologies bcz I dont need any online Submision/Rejection thing and our budjet is low.
    9. I am looking some technologies same as itextShar, simply fill data to form and save it as a new PDF, but it should support Adobe Extended Featers( what is currently not available in iTextSharp), so that customer can fill and save it again using simple  and free ADOBE READER.
    That's it !!
could u please verify my workflow is correct or not, bcz am new to PDF things and can u please suggest me solution to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance
    Ajo Joseph

iTextSharp doesn't enable usage rights in PDF forms, so any changes will invidate the form.
To bypass the validitiy of the Usage Rights, server the XDP data from the buffer of a web server, and point the File to the PDF on the same web server.
Usage rights will still be enabled, and the form can be saved or downloaded.
Also, please be sure to check out FDFToolkit.net, and PDFEmail.net.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 Extend features to reader

    My question is simple.
When I create a pdf in Microsoft Word 2007 using the acrobat add in, how do I "extend the features to reader" on the pdf I'm creating to allow other to comment and/or markup?
Or do I have to create the pdf from the word document in Acrobat itself to enable the extended features?
    Please help, I'm going insane.

    Hope this helps!!!
Open the PDF and choose Comments > Enable For Commenting And Analysis In Adobe Reader.

  • How to enable Extended Features in Reader 10

I have pdf forms that were created in Acrobat 8 Pro. Users could change the fields on the forms and save them. Our Enterprise has since "upgraded" to Reader 10. Users can longer make changes in the fields of the forms created in v.8 Pro. I have read the solution in this forum to this issue, which is:
"To Reader-enable a document in Acrobat 10, select: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.
Do this as the final step when preparing the document to be sent out."
However, I do not have File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF. Under the File > Save As menu, I only have PDF or Text, not Reader Extended. So how can I fix these pdf's so users can edit the fields and save them? We have hundreds of these documents we need to edit then save. Many thanks.

If your menu only says "PDF" and "Text" you're in Adobe Reader, not Acrobat.

  • Extending features for Reader

A previous thread noted that, to enable security-related settings (including commenting) in Reader for an Acrobat-generated PDF, you have to select Extend features in Adober Reader from the Advanced menu. Does any one know if there's a setting in Acrobat (9 Pro Extended, v.9.2) to make the feature extension the default property?

    Not possible.

  • Preventing Extend Features for Reader when distributing form

I am distributing a form created in LiveCycle and will have the form responses automatically tracked on an internal server. The distributed form is not sent out via email, but rather stored on the shared internal server. With Acrobat Pro 9, the distribute form function automatically extends Reader rights, which I do not want to happen with the form being stored on a shared server. The form will have secure information in it & responses are sent to a folder that will have write capabilities only.
Any info on how to prevent the extenstion of Reader rights when distributing the form is appreciated.

Something happened to the file after the time that it was Reader-enabled. It was modified in a way that invalidates the digital signature that controls whether the usage rights are valid. I seem to recall the GoLive can be configured to modify (optimize somehow?) PDFs when it uploads them, and you definately don't want this to happen for Reader-enabled documents. I don't have GoLive, so I can't check what setting it is, but you should be able to look for yourself. A workaround would be to upload via some other means, such as FTP. I'd be interested to know if this makes a difference.

  • Trouble printing a Livecycle Form in Acrobat or Reader

I've created a form in Livecycle 8.0 which I intend to have users fill in in Acrobat or Reader.  When I try to print the form in Acrobat, either to a printer or to PDF, it simply prints a blank document. I've got Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 but I've also tried to do this in Acrobat Standard v8 and had exactly the same problem.
I'm fairly new to Livecycle, and I've run through the tutorials and noticed that the forms I produced in them all seem to print fine, so I assume the problem lies with some setting I've used to create this other forms, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's very strange. I've sent it to 3 colleagues here.  Everyone who opened it in Acrobat (version 8.1 and 8.1.2) were unable to print, while the person who only had Reader could print.  What version of Acrobat do you have? Could it be a problem with 8.1?

  • Reader Extended Features not available in downloaded PDF

I've posted a form on my website with Reader Extended Features enabled so it can be "Ink Signed". Finding that the extended features are not available in browser Reader plugins, I created a link to the PDF with PHP that allows it to be downloaded, then opened with the standalone version of Reader, but still get the message "This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document." If I open my original local copy of the PDF it still has Extended Features enabled. What's changing in the downloaded copy?
Created in Acrobat Pro 9, opened in Reader 9.3.4
    Thanks for any insight.

Bernd--thanks for your interest. I found that the problem was the PHP script that I was using to force the PDF to download instead of open in the browser plugin. I used several variations of the script with the same results--seemed to be altering the contents of the PDF which cancelled the Reader Extended Features. A solution that I found was to add
    <FilesMatch "\.(pdf)$">
      ForceType application/octet-stream
      Header set Content-Disposition attachment
    </FilesMatch>
to the .htaccess file. Since I only wanted one PDF (not all of them on the site) to be affected, I put it and the .htaccess file in a subdirectory and linked to it there. The PDF now downloads with Reader Extended Features intact.

  • Acrobat X: Extending Features

Hoping someone located this one.  Just downloaded Acrobat X trial and managed to find everything BUT the "extend features" in reader option.  It used to be under Advanced menu in Acrobat 9.  Does anyone know where it is in Acrobat X?
    THANKS!

  • Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader X - Enable Extended Features for Form

Using Acrobat Pro 8.3.0, I "Enabled Usage Rights for Adobe Reader" for a fillable form created in LiveCycle Designer 8.0.  The following error message occurs when opening this form in Reader X:
"This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader.  The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available.  Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
The form has not been changed and as mentioned, I am the author.  Any solutions to allow user in Reader X to fill-in form?  Do I need to upgrade to Acrobat Pro X?

I am having same problem with a 2011 year tax PDF fill in form I JUST got from IRS website.  The actual form is the 2011 8829.
I can not open the PDF from the web browser or if I save it to my local drive.
I have not been able to open it at all ... thus I have made NO changes.
    I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Adobe Reader X version 10.1.4.
After trying to open the doc (nothing displays) I go to properties, and it says ...
    Title: 2011 Form 8829
    Author: SE:W:CAR:MP
    Created: 12/23/2008
PDF Producer: Adobe LiveCycle DSesigner ES 8.2.
    PDF Version: 1.7 (Acrobat 8.x)
    Tagged PDF: No
    Fast Web View: No
What do I do to resolve this ... I only have this version of Reader ... nothing else.

  • Extended Features to Sign Documents from LiveCycle in Reader XI

I used LiveCycle to create the form, save it as Static then open in Adobe Acrobat XI to save as - extended features for adobe reader.
The 'Sign' toolbar is all gray.  I have tried with the LiveCycle field as a signature and also as just text fields and nothing seems to give me the ability to apply a signature.
Any help to get the Sign features available would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Kendra

I don't have anything that says Sign, to select...please see images of my Reader. The only thing that I can see that is in reference to "Sign" is when it is referring to the pane on the left side of Reader to show all the signature fields in the form. I use to have a Pane on the Right side for in-person signing with a mouse and EchoSign integration.
    Thanks so much for helping.

  • How to extend features in Acrobat Reader for Livecycle pdfs

Have a PDF I created wit
h Livecycle.  I'm trying to extend features in Acrobat Reader so that the form will be fillable with acrobat reader but that option is not ena
bled?  Anyone know where the magic button for this is?

I already done this three times and 'extend features in Acrobat REader' is still disabled.
I'm using Livecycle ES and Acrobat Pro 9.  When I 'save as' in Livecycle my only option is 'Acrobat (static) PDF Form', and when I open the PDF document in acrobat pro I get a blue-bar that says i am viewing the document in PDF/A mode.  Does any of that raise any "red flags"?

  • Acrobat Pro won't allow to save with Reader Extended Features

I've saved forms this way before because all the users of our forms only have the free Reader version. For some reason it now won't allow me to save with the extended features. When I save as and hover over "Reader Extended PDF" it shows my 3 options but none of them are clickable. I don't know why it has saved before, but it won't now.
I also have a secondary issue. A form I previously, successfully saved this way is now not working for one of the users. It won't allow her to save the information she inputs. To my knowledge it has not been changed and it has only been used by a few people. Why would it suddenly stop allowing her to save?
I am working on a Mac, but the users are all on PC's. I've never had this be an issue before though.

Be sure you're not in form editing mode when you attempt to enable the document.
Regarding not being able to save with Reader after initially being able to, this has been reported before many times but the casue is often elusive. The document has somehow changed in a way that prevents the usage rights from being validated. This is not supposed to happen, but it does.

  • Cannot Save Form Information pop-up in Reader, Extend Features enabled in Acrobat

I am using Acrobat Pro 9 to created fillable forms. Once they are created, I save with the "Extend Features to Adobe Reader" before uploading to my intranet for use. I have googled this issue and searched the forums, and cannot figure out why my Extend Features isn't working and my users can't save their form data.
