LMS 4.1 -- Adding larger amount of devices ( 10) results in webUI freeze and not collecting Inv/Conf-Data

Hi all,
with LMS 4.1 running on solaris 10 I discovered the follwing.
Adding larger amount (>10) of devices one after the other (via DCRCLI) results in IC_Server no longer collecting the Inventory-Data nor ArchiveMgmt will collect Configs and after some while DataCollection (ANI) will get stucked in endless loop.
After that (navigating in CW2k-WebUI) the UI freezes.
Is that a known problem with Interprocess-Communication and Eventbus in LMS 4.1???
Any feedback is welcome.

After stopping the system I discovered that RmeDbEngine won't stop.
Issuing dbstop command also results in RmeDbEngine still running.
We had to kill process with signal 9.

Using this indicator you specify that rounding should take place according to the rule: tenths up to and including 4 are rounded downward to the next whole number, starting with 5 they are rounded upward to the next whole number.
This refers to the decimal places of a currency.
Example: 4.49 is rounded to 4
4.50 is rounded to 5

Adding large amounts of data to multiple traces

Hi,
I have a CNiGraph object. I want to add a 100 traces (plots) with each 500.000pts, and later update with 50.000pts/sec for each trace. How can I do this? I tried and got a result of 45 seconds for 300pts/trace for 100 traces. I must be missing something. What is the fastest way to add the points to the traces? For the init I would use PlotXvsY (as ALL traces can have different X values and the length of each trace may not be the same). Then ChartXvsY. I don't even get as far as the ChartXvsY, since the first stage takes forever. Probably one reason is that I am getting a screen update for every trace added (can this be disabled?). I also don't want the graph to rescale on every trace update, just move it to the end (scroll). I tried turning of the AutoScale function for the plots and setting their visibility to false, but that still took like 23secs (for 100 traces, 300p/t).

Instead of using URLConnection open a Socket to the server port (80 probably) send a POST http request followed by the data, you may then (optional) recieve data from the server to check that the servlet is ok, this is the same protocol as URLConnection, but you have control over when the data is actually sent...

Adding large amounts of songs

Is it a bad thing to upload over 3000 songs onto a new iPod all at once, or will that likely mess it up? Like, will it overheat and melt a piece of hardware or something?

For a reference point, when I moved to my new machine, I dragged over 10,000 tracks into iTunes at once. It worked fine, after I figured out a couple of minor issues relating to Dual Core processors.

I have a problem with iCloud - i have great internet access at work, but slow internet access at home (less than 1MB/PS) and I use the full range of iCloud syncing facilities. How can i make my devices ONLY sync at work.. and not at home??

As stated above, if i go out during the day, buy an app, download a song and take 20 photo's when i get home my devices will all take 30mins to sync before i can even browse websites or check my facebook at home.
Can i set up my iCloud to only sync when i am on my work Wi-fi...?

Having second hand iPhone 4 of family member now recognized as a device linked to my apple account and not theirs.

I'm sure this has been covered in another tread but I haven't been able to locate a solution to my query so here goes...
I have acquired an iphone 4 (and an iPad 2 but not too concerned with it in this discussion) from a deceased relative. Have unlocked the phone as my uncle's carrier was vodafone which differs from my carrier so no problems there...
The phone is working perfectly as a phone but in terms of transferring apps from my old phone which i have backed up to my macbook pro's itunes to my uncle's phone is proving an issue. In addition to this my old iphone without a sim card but with 3G or Wifi enabled will receive imessages rather than my uncles.
Essentially my uncle's iphone does not seem to respond as a piece of apple tech when synced with my itunes.
I am aware that there is issues with iphones and people having acquired them second hand have been told they have essentially bought a pricey paperweight.
Where my situation differs is I have the account details for my uncle's apple account.
Is there any way given that i have these details i can have my uncle's iphone recognized as a device linked to my apple account so that i can receive imessages and sync backed up apps from my old iphone 4 to this iphone.
Any instructions would be really appreciated and again if this has been covered before please bear with me

HT1766 Choose File Devices Back up is greyed out and not an option?

i smashed the screen on my 5s ... i got a new one... File > Devices > Back up does not seem to be an option when i plug in my iphone with the cracked screen..... so i tried to plug in my smashed one to back it up and transfer using my itunes that i just upgraded to latest 11.3 on my macbook pro and its saying 'do you want to set this iphone up as a new phone' or 'backup from some backup in 2012??? i dont want to do either.. i just want to back up my current iph 5s with the smashed screen so i can put the backup onto my new 5s??!!!... i have read many forums and tried to get info off the apple sites but some say it will erase everything and some say it wont... but im scared to go ahead with the setup as new iphone .. bcos ive had it erase everything another time i did it wiht a previous iphone not cool!!! why does it have to be so confusing?

I find that when my device is syncing then the backup is also greyed out. If I wait for the sync to finish then the Backup function works

Why do some devices show up as wireless clients and not DHCP clients

When looking at the 'Logs and Statistics' section it shows me the MAC addresses of 3 wireless devices I have on my W/LAN (Macbook and 2 wireless PVR's) in the 'wireless clients' section but no info on the 2 wireless PVR's in the DHCP clients section. Only the Macbook appears there with its ip address shown. Can anyone tell me how to find out the ip addresses of these 2 other devices. I tried connecting one of the PVR's via a cat 5 but that one still doesn't show up in the DHCP clients section.

Try scanning with WakeOnLan to get a list of all devices and their IP addresses. If the devices got fixed IP addresses at the factory, they won't show up under DHCP.

Adding a title to a clip makes the image pause and not respond correctly.

I have Imovie running on my Mac book and when I add a title to a clip, the image when pauses (audio continues).
The other error that occurs is that when the title is put in place there is a jump in the audio and video like the clip has been cut and a few frames have been removed or some times added.
Ilife came free with my mac so I cant re install it. Also the new Imovie is not something I'm after. But if the free download comes with all the effects etc then I may consider geting the new Ilife 08.
So whats going on in Imovie 06?

It may just be that you have insufficient disk space, or are storing your project on an external disk that is not formatted for Apple. It should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled).
IF none of the above apply, for the heck of it try closing iMovie and trashing the Fonts Collections Folder (NOT the Font Book) located in user/Library/Font Collections. When iMovie is relaunched it will create a new Fonts Collection Folder with the info that it needs. Inexplicably, that sometimes resolves these glitches. You could also try removing any duplicate fonts that you find in your Font Book Folder. (They will have a black dot next to them.) Select any with a black dot and then go to the Edit menu and select Resolve Duplicates.
If none of the above works, you can always try closing the iMovie project and then trashing the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in your User/Library/Preferences folder. When you relaunch iMovie a new iMovie.plist file will be created.
You can repair permissions through the Apple Utility App.
Some of the more experienced tech persons on this forum may have some better suggestions.

LMS 3.2 on Solaris 10 - New devices and RME archive job

Hi All,
I've created a RME job that archive syncs our devices. When I add new devices to Common Services, which updates RME, will those new devices have their configurations archived by that same RME job, or do I need to create a new job?
When the existing job was created the option "All Devices" was selected.

Hi Jose,
If you really wants to track the devices configuration with the help of RME Jobs ( sometimes for auditing purpose we have to have a job ), then you can schedule a job as well but with the option Group Selector like (Select A Layer: Device SelectorGroup Selector ). You can see this option at the very top while creating the job. If you select this option, the membership of the group is dynamic in nature i.e this job will run on all those devices which exist in the group that you have selected at the time of running of job and not at the time of creation of job. For example, if you had created job on Normal Group of RME, then this job will attempt to take the backup of config of all those device which exist in Normal Group. So if your RME is synchronized with DCR (Common Services), and if you are adding the new device to Common Service, then you need not to add this device again for this schedule job since DCR will send this device to RME and once this device have inventory collected, it will automatically be in the normal group of RME and since we had selected Group selector option, RME will collect the config for this device too.
However periodic polling and periodic collection is also desinged to acheive the same purpose and known as kind of administrative task for managing the devices in RME.
Now the question arise what is difference between periodic polling and periodic collection :- Its very simple actually -
Periodic Polling :- Under Periodic polling, RME will first poll the device and if it find any change in the actual configuration of device with the existing configuration in RME . it will trigger collection of backup config for the device. If it will not find any difference between the actual configuration on the device and the existing configuration in RME, it will not trigger any new sync archive on the device thus save your network resources.
Periodic Collection :- Under Periodic Collection, it will not do any comparison and always trigger the sync archive on the device. However you will be able to see the new version of device configuration only when any change on the device happen since there is no point of keeping the same config many times in RME database.

If you have photo stream set up, that can take up a large amount of room, so check that too. And videos take up much more space than photos.

Managing larger amount of localized data

(This is a bit long and maybe fuzzy, it's 1:30AM here)
I have this idea about making a webapp with (among other things) three drop down lists where people can select;
* country
* state
* city
That is quite easy to solve.
After someone for example selects "Canada" as country I have a JavaScript to pull some xml/json from my web-app with all the states of Canada.
Same thing happens when they select a state, I get a list with cities within the state.
However, here comes the tricky part:
I want to localize the countries/states/cities in english, french and spanish (and possibly more later, portugese).
Suddenly I have a load of new data to manage and I have no clue how to structure this in a good way. :(
First I thought I put everything in arrays in a servlet, but that results in huge classes and not all data needs to be in memory all the time.
Second I thought I put the data in a database and structure it up in 3 tables (countries, states, cities) but then I got stuck on how to make a good table structure which is manageable with TopLink/EclipseLink.
Example:

The above examples is a pain to deal with due to the JPA idea of using embedded classes for composite primary keys. It becomes much juggling with objects there :(
I also need a method to reliably generate seqence numbers for 'stateid' which are the same across languages, and I haven't found a method in JPA which allows me to generate sequence number when I want to. :(
Or is there a better method to organize the data?

There are two sides: user data and storage.
For displaying the names you need something to pull the data from. If you want to localize then you will need a localization value.

Adding music to more than one slide and not the entire presentation

I love the way Keynote looks and behaves, but it fails to compete with PPT on certain aspects, such as adding the same audio track to more than one slide and NOT have it play for the entire presentation. Using PPT (and I hate PCs!) you can have a track play for "n" number of slides. I'm frustrated that I cannot do this with Keynote! I don't want the track as a soundtrack for the entire presentation. I want to add another audio track to, say, the last two or three slides only and something else for all the other slides. I looked through the user manual, forums, etc. and found that I can only add a soundtrack to the entire thing or a different audio to only one slide.
Question: What if I cut (that last two slides) and paste the the slides as a new Presentation with its own soundtrack, then reincorporate that back and paste it into the original presentation? Will that work or will the original soundtrack take over the entire presentation again?

Anyone remember Claris Works for Mac back in the early 90s? Now, that was a gem! What were they thinking when they got rid of that one (and replaced it with AppleWorks!)?
Good point, but one which Apple has heard a zillion times, and so sadly chosen to ignore. The really heartbroken among us remember AppleWorks from the mid-'80's, the world's first integrated suite, then ClarisWorks, then AppleWorks; and, of course, Beagle Bros. and BeagleWorks. Lms 4.2 adding devices questions

Hi All,
I´m new in Prime LMS and trying to add some my network devices on cisco lms 4.2 and getting stuck on this stage.
First I tried to use the "Discovery" way and got follow messages
Total Devices Discovered: 16
Reachable Devices: 1
Unreachable Devices: 15
Devices Newly Added to DCR: 0
Devices Updated to DCR: 1
Went on "Unreachable Devices" got a list of devices saying stauts : Unreachable
any idea what could be the problem ?

I found the problem was an snmp configuration missmatch on unreachable devices :/

LMS 3.2 Adding Devices Manually

Can anyone tell me if I need a seed devices to add devices manually or can I just bypass this portion of the setup since I'm NOT going to be discovering anything with Ciscoworks.(My envoronment is to complex to perform and discovering) Or do I need a seed device anyhow for functionality of Ciscoworks and other processes?

If you are adding devices manually, there is no need for a seed device. The whole purpose of seed devices is to use it as staging for discovering neighboring devices.
There is a great document written on the CSDiscovery process in LMS by Joe.
