Lock Screen in Mac OS X Lion

Hello,
I use Mac OS X 10.7.4 and my lock screen (the one that comes up when the computer is a wake from sleep mode and asks for a password) has returned to be the lock screen from Mac OS X 10.6 versions.
I don't think it's a big deal but it might be file that was modified or something and I don't want it to become serious, so I want to know if anyone know how to fix it, and if you do know please post here.
Thank you for helping.

AsafHr
I am experiencing the same issue.
In my case, the old style lock screen is limited to just one user account (my domain/network account) and the change happened sometime after installing 10.7.4. All of the other user accounts use the newer, Lion style, lock screen.
I've searched for more information on which file(s) might be causing the problem, but I have yet to find any information.
Hopefully, someone can provide some guidance and insight.

Anyone else?  When I use back to my mac, I can get access to the files on my desktop, BUT, I can't screen share.  Screen share is sleected in settings and everything I know to check is set up right.  Back to my Mac ir running on both machines using the same sign in.
    Any ideas?

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

  • Lock screen in Lion

I have seen some screenshots of how to lock your screen in Mac OS X Lion, and was just wondering hos to do this.

Much simpler way is provided here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp2270.html
"To lock your screen quickly with fast user switching enabled, choose Login Window from the menu with your user name. Your applications will remain open and undisturbed, but your computer islocked."
They didn't give a picture so you may have trouble finding the so called "Login Window" to click on but its actually immediately to the left of the Search (spotlight) Icon on the top right. Its your name that's written to the left of this search icon and this name can be clicked to reveal the "Login Window" option. And that's it, clicking it locks your comp.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to the lock screen?

    Hi,
I am a macbook user and I want to know what is the shortcut to the lock screen on mac OS X?
    please help!
    thank you

    YousefTa3lab,
there isn’t a default keyboard shortcut to the lock screen; perhaps a third-party app can provide one. Without a third-party app, you could open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab, and check the “Require password after sleep or screen saver begins” checkbox. You can then open the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, select the Screen Saver tab, choose a screen saver, then press the Hot Corners… button, and set one or more active screen corners to Start Screen Saver — that will allow you to move your cursor into one of those corners to lock your screen.

  • Mac OS X Lion Server screen freezes frequently

I have recently purchased the Mac Mini Server with 8GB RAM Upgrade and have been experiencing screen freezes frequently. The Mac Mini is connected to a ViewSonic LED Monitor via an HDMI cable and is running Mac OS X Lion Server.
It all started a month ago and I suspected it was due to an external hard disk I had. When I removed it the problem didn't crop up for a few weeks. So I thought the issue was resolved.
Over the past week the problem re-surfaced again and nearly everyday I am experiencing screen freezing about five times a day and the only option is to power down my Mac Mini Server from the power button. This is becoming increasingly frustrating. When screen freezing occurs, everything freezes and I get some small rectangular boxes on screen moving.
The only things that have changed over the past week was that I installed the latest Safari fix and connected the Harman Kardon Sounsticks II to the Mac Mini.
Can't understand what is happening. From various threads I read, many mac users are experiencing screen freezes. If anyone has any resolutions please let me know.

Lion has a screen refresh bug it is just the screen going to sleep and the the screen updating only where the curser moves.

  • Why i can't full screen my apps in my display?? with the mac os x lion, why i can't full screen my apps in my display?? with the mac os x lion

i have a cinema display and i just downloaded the new mac os x lion. the problem is that i can't use full screen with my display, when i push the full screen button the app moves to my macbook, but i want it to stay at the display.

It appears that the full-screen display will only work on the display that has the menu bar.
You can switch the menu bar to your external display by going to Solid Apple -> System Preferences -> Displays, then Arrangement.
Grab the menu bar and drop it on the icon representing your external display.
When you full screen an app it should then full screen on the Cinema display.
I wish it would just full screen on the display the window is on, but that is evidently not the way it was designed to work.

  • How do you change the lion lock screen

How do you change the lock screen in Lion?

It typically uses your Screen Saver definition in System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver tab.
    Or I'm misunderstanding the question...

  • Lion autmatically goes to the log in/lock screen

Lion goes automatically into the log in screen randomly. This has happened only twice till now. The first time happened while I was using an external hard drive. The second time happened when I woke up (opened the lid) of my Macbook Pro. I am not sure whether it was a log out or a lock screen. I'll try to see what happened if it happens again!

Something in OS X is corrupted. Try reinstalling OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I can't Install the Mac OS X Lion because of Disk Locked. How to Unlock the Disk? Anyone can Help Please

Right click the hard drive icon and select Get Info. In the new pane, on the bottom, do this:
    1. click the padlock, and authenticate with your password.
    2. change Privilege to Read & Write - just click what is there and options will appear.
    3. close the pane.

  • Lion Lock Screen Logs me Out

In Snow Leopard, invoking the screen saver when the Security pref panel "Require password after sleep" was checked worked the way you would expect: when the screen saver was cancelled via a mouse or keyboard event, a dialog asked for a password, and then you were back in.
In Lion, I am logged out when I move the mouse, and booted out to the log in screen. I have to wait while (a) I'm logged out; which takes five or ten seconds; and then (b) of course I have to log back in, which probably takes a minute to restore all the apps. This just seems wrong. It's also at odds with what I've seen reported, for instance in the Ars Technica review. I've never seen that little floating lock screen dialog. How can I get that instead of the heavyweight and time consuming log out behaviour?

Do the log files in Console provide any clues?

  • Mac OSX Mountain Lion crashes randomly.

I've made a clean install of Mac OSX Mountain Lion in my 15" Macbook Pro late 2009 laptop. • How come the switch user option is missing from my lock screen?

I upgrade to Lion my iMac Core 2 Duo and now when I lock the screen the switch user option is missing from the lock screen, you just have to cancel o renter as the original user, so that if another member of my family wants to switch and use the mac he or she cannot do it.
This is what I am talking about (image taken from a lion review): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/134544/forum/Schermata%2007-2455766%20alle%2011.05.12.pn g
The switch user option is totaly absent, I just have the cancel.
It that a bug or what?
Please note this happens only when I lock the screen from the screensaver, i.e. requesting the password to restart from the screensaver, if I get to the login windows all users appears correctly and people can switch back and forth.
    Thank you.

I just talked to apple support.  They said Lion doesn't support this feature.  They gave me a work-around, which was to disable requiring a password in the screen saver.  Then enable user switching so it appears in the top right of the banner.  Note that since the screen saver no longer locks the screen, in order to actually lock the screen the user must click on the upper right user list and select something like "Login user...".
This issue has left me disappointed with apple for a few reasons.  Hopefully someone at apple will take note:
    1. Apple removed a useful feature.
    2. Apple did not provide a response to this thread which would have been the best forum to inform users of this change.  It would have saved me and apple one long phone call.

  • Issue with lock screen language

My OS X Lion language is set to Italian, but when I lock the screen on the locked screen the language is English.
No issue once I log in, I get everything into the italian language, but when I get to the lock screen everything is in English.
I have 2 iMac, in one of them the issue does not show at all, into the second one it does. Into the latter, I had installed a iCloud beta and I suspect that could cause the issue: how do I completely remove it?
Otherwise, how do I fix that? Any hint?
Of course, into system preferences everything is set to Italian...
    Thank you.

This seems like quite a serious security issue if keystrokes/commands can be entered on a locked system.
yes, it is. it is a known problem in leopard. it's fixed in snow leopard but unlikely to ever be fixed in leopard as leopard development has stopped.
