Locking and editing

I have a video track, and two audio tracks... they're all sync'ed.
How do I lock all three so that when I drag one, everything else comes along...
I have about 30 seconds of empty space in front of my tracks, and I want to trim it down, but if I drag any of my clips, they'll go out of sync.

Hi Nails:
You can select all three by holding the shift key down while you click on each one. Then all 3 will be highlighted.
Once you do that, go to Advanced / Lock Audio at playhead and you'll see little push pins in your clips.
While they are still highlighted, drag the first one back where you want it and all three will follow.

Help with template locked and editable regions

I have been using templates for years in a very simplified way, my programing skills are not great. Today I seem to have screwed up a template beyond my ability to fix it and possibly all 46 pages attached to it (have not uploaded any of these files though).
The body tag needs to be editable because of the preload images that are part of the tag. The next section needs to be editable for content which is different on all pages. The last part is a table with text navigation to each page which needs to be locked so I can change it from one place.
DW keeps inserting an extra body tag and putting an end body tag after the editable content region (before the locked table), depending on where I try to put the tags. Then it won't let me change areas of the content on individual pages and it's not displaying the bottom nav table (although it does show up in safari, but I know the code is wrong).
Basically what I would like to do is simply have the whole body region editable, except for the one table toward the bottom of each page. Can I do this with out having any content thrown off my pages? I really don't know what code to post at this point since it's all in various stages of "not-working", but the version I am using is DW8.

Templates imply locked regions and editable regions...usually WITHIN the body, so having the entire body editable might be what is throwing things off.
It is possible to make attributes of tags editable, but I don't believe that is supported in DW8. You would make the body tag editable so that the id can be changed to match the page (#contactuspage, #homepage, etc.), and by doing that you can focus your CSS on each page. I use that technique to influence the navigation to highlight the page that I am on (of course, I also put ids on the nav links, viz. #contactus, #home, etc., and #contactus2, #home2, etc. for the footer links). All these you would style in the CSS file. I'm pretty sure you can't pass actual content that way yet, but you can define background images.
I see that you are doing that sort of thing in your pages.
While you are in the template, look at the code just before the <body> tag. There should be something that says

Copy the two commented lines and change the word "head" to "body" []. Then put the BeginEditable line just before the <body> tag and the EndEditable line just after it. That should leave your body tag open for editing in Code View. Remember, all you want editable here is the <body> tag, not the whole <body> of the document.
Be sure to add editable regions in the rest of the page, controlling them as you wish.
At any rate, have courage...once you have fixed your template, the other 46 pages will fall into line!
Understand that I am working in DWCS4, so I don't know how this is going to work in DW8. Hopefully, it will work fine.
(Have you considered upgrading to CS4? You may still be able to do that from DW8 at an upgrade price.)

Are parts of a pdf document in Adobe Acrobat Pro able to be secured so that once the recipient fills out a specific section, signs it, and submits it to the original sender, that information filled out is locked from editing for security purposes? If so,

I have an application I'm submitting to our school website for potential students to fill out. There are sections for the student(s) to fill out as well as sections for staff to fill out. For the sake of security for the student filling out the form, I'd like to set it up so that once the student has filled out the proper sections and submits the information, any information filled out and signed by the student is locked from editing on my part. I only need to read what the student filled out and signed, then add my notes to Staff sections. Is this possible? If so, how? I need details!

You can create a script that will lock the fields before signing. But when you edit the document after the student signs, the signature will no longer be valid and the document will show that it has been changed after signing. Adobe restricts the number of files you can collect information on with forms that can be saved and emailed. The restriction used to be 500 files unless you purchased the appropriate LiveCycle product to enable the pdf files for saving.
Why in the world are you requiring potential students to sign forms. Many students will not know how to sign pdf files. Just have a button that will submit the information to a website for you to extract or to send you the information in an FDF file and import the information form. You can have a button that will lock the fields they fill out. This will ensure you do not have to worry about the 500 file limit.

My files are locked and I can't edit them!

What is happening? I have DW CS4. I am trying to edit a site have used for years - my own site! Every file I try to open, I'm told it is locked and is View Only! This has never happened before. What is going on? Help!

If I try to download a file from the server, I get this message:

Apple ID and Primary Email Address are locked and cannot be edited... I accidentally clicked "make my apple ID and Primary Email address one" and now I cannot edit it. I don't use my @mac account and am not receiving any notifications. How can I change my primary email address back to an address I actually check?

Found a solution...
• Go to your country's Apple Store website http://store.apple.com/
• Click on the Account button in the top-right corner
• Under Account Settings, click on Change your default shipping or billing info
• Sign in with your usual Apple ID and password
• The email address listed under Payment Information is the key
• Click on Edit next to Payment Information and change that email address to your preferred address

Image locked and can't be deleted

I just took over updating my company's website. On one page, there's an image that is locked and I can't figure out how to unlock it so I can delete it. Can someone help me?

Without seeing the file we can only guess. With that in mind it sounds like you have a page based off of a template. You can determine this by looking at the source code where you will see comments for editable regions. The best thing you can do in this case is find the original template. If you cannot find the original template your only option will be to detach the page from the template by clicking on Modify->Templates->Detach from Template.

How do i use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" keyboard shortcut to Lock and Unlock Guides in Adobe Illustrator?

I've been trying to lock my guides in Illustrator CS5 with the default keyboard shortcut "Alt+Ctrl+;", but with no result.
When i edit this shortcut via the 'Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts...' menu, and type in the same keystroke combination for that command - so again "Alt+Ctrl+;" for "Lock Guides' - the shortcut changes from "Alt+Ctrl+;" into "Alt+Ctrl+."
This new "Alt+Ctrl+." shortcut is usable. Now the same 3 different keystrokes tabbed at the same time do lock and unlock the guides, but i'm left wondering why it is that i can't use the "Alt+Ctrl+;" combination.
There now also seems to be no way around changing the new combination into the old one again.
I hope someone can help.

My Iphone 4 says "backed up - never". I am trying to back up to Icloud...it says iPhone plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi. It shows "Backing Up" ...slow. Estimated time remaining.... (It shows no time). How will I know when it is complete?

You should import your photos and videos to your computer following the steps outlined in this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. After doing so you will be given the option to delete them from your phone to give you more space. If you don't want to delete them all in this way, after importing them to your computer you can open your camera roll in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos and videos you want to delete from your phone, then tap Delete.
If you have never backed up your phone, and are having trouble backing up to iCloud, you should perform a manual backup on your computer. To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and choose Back Up. (If you have iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
To back up to iCloud you need to be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger, then just press the power button to lock the screen (i.e., put it in "sleep" mode). It should then back up automatically if you have turned on iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup (at the bottom).

HELP! Photos locked and can't delete in Windows 7/PSE8

Appreciate any and all help! Not a computer gal.....
Have a 3 day old Dell Studio XPS 8100 with Windows 7.
Using an external drive transferred from my former Dell.
Loaded new Photoshop Elements 8.
Can access and edit my photos just fine...
but when I go to delete a photo and/or override a photo with an edited version, I get an error message that
MY FILE IS LOCKED.
HELP???
Deal with thousands of photos a month--don't have time for another step--just need to delete or save and delete former version.
Talked with Dell and Microsoft but they claim I need to "buy software support."?!?!?!?!?
The Microsoft guy seemed to imply that there is some fix --and the Dell guy thought there was some security thing in WIndows 7 preventing the deletion.
Please...any ideas!!! Spent HOURS on this already!

I had the same problem. I am not exactly sure which changes that I did were the actual ones that solved the problem but here is what I did. I went to the highest folder (in my case the whole drive) in Windows Explorer (The Folder icon) and right clicked on the drive to get the Properties dialog box. I then selected Security. I highlighted Everyone and clicked on Edit and then gave Everyone permissions for everything (probably laying my drive wide openfor any viruses floating around). I also found that all of the files and folders were marked Read Only so I removed that from all files and folderss. That seems to have solved the problem. This solves the immediate problem. I am not sure if this is what is recommended for security purposes.

i have a problem with an user in my office when opening an excel file from Server:
“<file_name>.xlsx is locked for editing” . The error shows that it is being used by its own user and that user could not open this file.
- Our company is domain network and our Domain Controller is also File Servers.
* I got a workaround action plan is: "unshared the folder which contains the problematic files in server, then share it again". However, this only works with folders which contain a small volume of data. For several GB it will take a considerable
time and affect to network availability.
I have few questions:
1. Is there anyway to kill the process/service which is controlling the "excel files" at server ? ( Since i reboot client machine but the error message still persists), beside my workaround action plan.
2.When i use OpenFilesView (from the link: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html) i can see that the excel files is opened by 2 process : "xlsx and xls" from remote computer. However, i can not kill the process using OpenFilesView.
So i would like to ask: Is there any way to kill a process from remote host?
3. What actually happens when sharing a files from Server in domain ? ( mechanism of sharing files)
I would appreciate if you can give me some advices for my concern.

Also, below KB article describes the way that how Excel saves files, you might also want to take a look. There may be some softwares or process is accessing these temporary files. Check if there is any temporary file (~$filename.xls
or ~$filename.xlsx) in the shared folder, delete them and try again.

Then later I tried to open the picture in iPhoto and it doesn't recognize it, even though it is still a JPEG file. It still shows on my camera, but shows as a bland square in iPhoto. Have I lost the ability to open it in iPhoto? Will I be able to go to a store and print it out from my camera?

What software did you use and exactly what did you do and what exactly was the error message? There is a good chance that you will need help for the support for the program you used. Where was the photos you were editing not using iPHoto?

What version of iPhoto Had you imported the photo into iPhoto - iPhoto is not a photo viewer and can not open photos that have not been imported

NWDI - Track locked for editing in another session

While editing Track Data in the CMS Landscape Configurator my browser session died unexpectedly. I logged back in, but now when I try to enter Change mode on the Track Data tab, I get a message saying the "Track is locked for editing by (me) in another session". How do I unlock the track? I have searched Help documents, SAP Notes, and this forum but have not found any details.
Version is NetWeaver 2004s SP13

A co-worker helped me figure it out. We went to the visual administrator and killed the session. That released the lock.

Usually the browser session will get unlocked on its own after some particular time. Incase this is not so in your case, a restart of the CMS server might help.

Lock and semaphore, what's better method for my case

I'm implementing a classic case: a consumption queue with infinite capacity. That's say I have a queue of infinity capacity, a thread to put objects into the queue, another thread take it out. Pseudo code is smth like below:

if (queue not empty)
take object out;

lock;
wait for signal from producer;
wake up and take object out;

I don't know if I should use semaphore or Lock interface to get the job done. Do you know which one is better in my case? I'm writing an apps which is very sensitive in latency so basically I want the eater to get the object as soon as possible. Any advices?

Blocking queue doesn't work for me as it is too slow.
I don't need to lock the data because one thread
adds too the tail, one thread consumes the head, so
why bother?LinkedBlockingQueue allows concurrent access to the head and tail ie it uses two different locks.
A Lock is a mechanism for mutual exclusion. It generally has a notion of ownership and so the thread that locks must be the thread that unlocks.
A Semaphore is a resource counter. There are no constraints on which thread signals() after await(). It is only a protocol that you establish in your code that allows it to be used for exclusion.
A bounded-buffer generally needs two synchronization aids:
a) an exclusion control to ensure the data structure is not corrupted by concurrent access
b) a coordination control to allow consumers to block when the buffer is empty, or producers to block when the buffer is full.
These two can be combined by using "synchronized" methods and wait/notify. Or by using Lock and associated Condition objects. Or you can use "synchronized" blocks or Lock for exclusion, and handle the coordination using a seperate semaphore (which must use some form of internal synchronization too - but perhaps more efficient.)
If you have a lock-free data structure, such as ConcurrentLinkedQueue then you don't need anything for (a) and so you only need coordination. So try using a Semaphore: put() increments it and take() decrements it.
But the Semaphore still becomes a serialization point in your code.
