Locking certain albums in iWeb

I have a iweb site with six albums available to view. Some are family albums that I don't necessarily want available for friends and colleagues. Is there a way to LOCK the family albums so that they can be accessed via password, while leaving other albums available to anyone going to website?

Welcome to the discussions. It's not clear to me what type of albums you've created. If you create _MobileMe Gallery_ albums via iPhoto '08, you can password-protect them. You can then embed an album into your iWeb page via the +Web Widgets+ button — see half-way through this _video tutorial_.

Certain albums won't play on Iphone but still play perfectly fine in Itunes

Since I updated my Iphone to IOS5, certain albums won't play. They work perfectly fine in Itunes on my imac and the still appear in my library on the Iphone, but it won't start playing. The strange thing is, they are all albums from this year. All the rest is working properly.
Allready tried importing the whole library again but that was a waste of time.

Having the same problem with only a few albums.
Any news on this issue?

A certain album won't download to my iPod

I buy physical copies of albums and download them to my iTunes then sync the ones i like to my iPod (touch. the older version (if that mattered)) but a certain album (the new One Direction Four album) i even made a playlist to put the album in a sync it individually but the the playlist folder synced all the songs didn't. also when i have my ipod plugged into my computer and click to see all the songs that are in it, i scroll down to look for the songs and they're all faded and there's a little dashed circle before the little check-mark. i can't click on it either.

My iPod no longer displays artwork for certain albums

Ok, so here's my problem. Every so often when I alter the artwork on my iPod with iTunes, I have to reset the artwork by clicking the "display album artwork on your iPod" checkbox in my menu, then clicking apply, and repeating the process to redisplay them. If I don't do this, sometimes I wind up with a black box where the artwork would normally be displayed when I peruse my iPod. I know that this is a common problem for some people so hopefully there are some on this site and know what I'm talking about. Anyway, to my current problem, when I attempted to do that last night, it was just about at the end of the progress bar when an error message appeared that said "The iPod 'name' cannot be synched. An unknown error occurred (-50)." So, because it didn't complete the cycle, certain albums no longer display the artwork. It's still there on my iPod when I go into iTunes, but when I go through the actual menus on my iPod such as Cover Flow etc. I instead see that annoying box with the musical note in it. Has anyone come across this problem before? I would very much appreciate a solution

I just tried it again and this time a different message showed up "The iPod 'name' cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." I have no clue what folder it could be talking about.

How do I share certain albums in my iphoto library with other users....

without using the fast user switching/sharing preference in iphoto?
I have about 12,000 photos in my library of which about 6000 are for work. I would like to share all of my non work photos with the other users on my imac. I would rather not use the fast user switching and keep the iphoto application open for all the users. I would like to either import only selected albums to the user account or add them to the shared folder for their access. How can I export/import only the albums I wish to share without having to do it manually for each? Should I make a copy of the library, add it to the other users accounts and then delete the photos? Or can I put the library in the shared folder and limit access to certain albums? I don't think it would make too much sense to have a duplicate library since I only have about 10GB left on my HD.

With iPhoto 6 you can place the source files, i.e. exported the full sized files for those albums you want to share, in appropriately names folders in the Shared folder. Then have each user create an new library with iPhoto's alias mode, i.e. create alias files of the source files instead of copying the a full sized version into the library. This way each of the other users can have a working library and you only have to have one copy of each file on the HD. Saves a lot of space. Any edits that one user performs will not be seen by the other users. If a user delete a photo from their library only the alias files is deleted. The source files are untouched.
The downside to this method is if you add a file(s) to the Shared folder each of the other users will have to import that file into their own library. An easy way around that is to always put new photos in new folders and let the others know there are new ones to import. You could also divide your library up into to two, keeping your work library a conventional one and removing the "shared" source photos and have a similar alias based library for the personal photos that are in the Shared folder. Then use iPhoto Library Manager or iPhoto Buddy to quickly switch between the two. I have 7 libraries that I use iPLM to switch between. It's very convenient and fast. If you want to convert over entirely to an alias system, both work and personal, here's a way to retain the keywords you've assigned to them. See tutorial #2 here.

How do I archive certain albums in iPhoto?

I am using a Macbook Intel core 2 duo, so it's a few years old now and my iPhoto '11 is running incredibly slow. I have over 12,000 photo's in the library so what I want to do is archive most of these photo's and get them out of iPhoto. I plan on putting them into an external hard drive.
I'm not sure if what I am asking is possible or not, but I have all my photo's in albums down the left hand side of the app, I want to be able to pick certain albums and archive them, taking the photo out of the library at the same time. I want this because ideally I'd like the photo's to stay in the albums I have put them in, not just archive 10,000 photo's in one big folder where I will never be able to search through them if I need to find a particular album in the future (so it needs to remain searchable on the external HD).
I have albums/photo's dating back 10 years and I'm looking to archive all the photo's that are older than 2 years or so, so I can keep my recent pics inside iPhoto but clearing out all the old stuff.
Please can someone help?

With 2gigs of Ram you're never going to have a fast machine as that's the bare minimum for 10.8, not to mind adding apps to it. You could thinnk of increasing the Ram for a start.
So if I just copy my current library by dragging and dropping it on the external, that'll literally copy it as it is. Then go through iPhoto on my computer deleting and sorting everything out as it is, then in the future if I want an old photo from the original library I can simply plug the external in, start the iPhoto app, but start it with the option key and select the library from the external, resulting in the original library opening up?

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
If I just copy that one 'iPhoto Library' icon in the 'Pictures', I assume it'll copy over all the original pictures aswell, so once I delete them from my computer after I've copied it to my external I won't lose the original photos. I.E it's not just copying links or thumbnails of the photos, it's moving over the picture itself?

A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Multiple photo albums in iWeb?

How can I create multiple photo albums in iWeb? When I simply pull albums from iPhoto to iWeb, the photos appear individually.

Updated to Firefox 3.6. My Photo Albums display properly on an iWeb site in Safari; they also previously did with the Firefox version I had updated from. However, the photo albums have disappeared now from my Photo Album page.

Apparently many people are having this problem but it isn't resolved for anyone. Is it Apple's problem or is it Firefoxe's -- and is this happening in IE too (we don't have IE here on our computers btw)

Exact message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."
If I reduce the albums inside to 1 then it seems to work but that takes away from the usefullness of multiple albums.

Publish your site to a folder on your hard drive to see if the publication will proceed successfully and open the site locally with your browser to confirm all of the alums are there and work. If they do try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

launch iWeb and try again.
If you're still not able to publish from iWeb to your server download and use the free Cyberduck to upload your website files to the server. Users have found that CD has been successful when iWeb had problems.

Also, in some cases the artist will not allow download sales, or insists on a download store selling complete albums only rather than offering individual tracks, something Apple resists. In any case, it's not by Apple's choice; it's by decision of the content owners.

Static during a certain album but not others?

My iPod Touch 4th generation, with the latest update available, has static when I play a certain album. I've played other albums and just random songs not from that album and it works just fine, but when I play that certain album it has static. I got the album yesterday via a CD, I had purchased that day and brought it home and put it directly in the computer. I have played it on my computer and it works just fine.

I did, its still staticy on that one album.

Why are most photos disappearing from albums in iWeb?

I'm having a problem with the photo albums on iWeb.
I drag a photo album from my iPhoto window in iWeb to the photo album web page and it becomes an album with slideshow capabilities. If I publish the site, everything appears fine. I save iWeb and exit.
Now if I open iWeb again, all three of the photo album pages still exist, but on each page, only four of the original photos remain. The albums are supposed to have 29 photos, 35 photos, and 46 photos total. Now they each show four.
I thought it was a fluke, so I added them all again including captions. Then I saved, closed and reopened iWeb. The photos in the web albums were gone again.
I'm using iLife '09 with the iPhoto that exists on my laptop, but all the source photos are located on a Mac Mini in my local network. Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?
Note that the complete album as uploaded to the actual website still exists and works great. But if I publish the changes, the album will disappear.

Question about locking certain folders w/diff.accounts?

I'm about to let my girlfriend use my Mac, so I made a seperate account for her. I just don't want her going through all of my files and " stuff ". Is there anyway to lock certain folders in my account? I tried using parental controls but didn't find the file I wanted to Lock in the options.

When your girlfriend is logged in on her account your folders are locked to her. Your Home folders are only accessible from your account.

New iTunes Stretching Certain Album Artwork?

Just upgraded to 11.1.5.5 and have found that iTunes is stretching certain album's artwork to square; seems to be doing it only to images that are close to square, say digipak size like 1000 x 900 px. Its really annoying and ugly, obviously there is some sort of threshold of wether iTunes will or wont stretch the art in relation to the image's ratio of width/height. Anyone else annoyed by this? Can you turn it off somehow?

I have this issue. Album artwork was totally fine before. After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.
Please fix!

Certain album causing crash

I did a search for this but I couldn't find a similar problem...
I have a certain album that is causing iTunes to crash when syncing my iPhone. I've found that the band-aid for my problem was to just uncheck the entire album, but is there anything I can do to permanently remedy this? I can't delete and re-download the album because I bought it off iTunes a long time ago, and I won't buy another copy.

Does it play OK in itunes? If so, some folks have had luck converting files to another format, such as MP3, after setting import options to MP3.
If it won't even play in itunes, then it's probably gotten corrupted somehow. Unless you have a backup, you're out of luck.
