Logic Board for 500 in 600 machine?

Have an ibook 600 mhz with dying logic board. Can I replace with a 500mhz logic board? Actually, I already tried and it doesn't boot, altho the hard drive whirs. Any ideas on whether i've messed up the installation or if it is just incompatible?
Thanks!

Just an update - finally got to flashing question mark as i was too tired to keep working. Will check installation of hard drive - am suspicious of one of the cables. Further info to come ...

  • Where can I purchase a Logic Board for a 24" Apple Cinema Display?

My 24" Cinema Display started to flicker and black out shortly after I purchased my most recent MacBook Pro.  Apple felt that the issue was the MacBook Pro so they replaced it.  The problem continued so they suggested I take the Cinema Display to the Genius Bar.  The display was out of warranty and the Apple Genius felt the issue was a bad display even after I told him I smelt silicon burning just before it went out completely.  He said that he could "depot" the unit and have it repaired for ~$600.  Due to the high cost of repair, I chose to purchase a new Thunderbolt Display instead.  Recently, I opened the old Cinema Display and found that the Logic Board is fried.  I have ordered a new board from 2 different Web retailers.  Both accepted the purchase as "in stock" but then stated they could not get the board from Apple.  Where can I purchase the Logic Board for a 24" Apple Cinema Display?
    Many thanks!

I was very interested to read this document.  I think there is a problem with the Cinema Display and that it is frying the computer.
My husband bought each of us a macbook pro.  His was hooked up to the cinema display.  After about a year, his MBP started to suffer intermittent failures where it would suddenly shut off and have to be hard rebooted.  After 2 years, the power or logic board on his MBP completely failed. He bought a new MBP and a Thunderbolt display, and I inherited his Cinema Display for use with my original MBP.
After one month of use with the cinema display, my MBP started to have the same problems.  It has to be hard rebooted almost every time I disconnect or reconnect with the cinema display.  I went to the Genius bar, and they confirmed that my MBP logic board needs to be replaced; I'm just holding out until spring break to take it back in, as they say it may take a week.  Fortunately, I have AppleCare for my MBP.
Our cinema display is 3-4 years old, but it looks like, even though it appears to be working, I should probably get rid of it.  I can't keep frying computers!
I'm posting this because I'm wondering how many others are experiencing this problem.

  • Where can I find a logic board for iMac G5 17" (EMC No. 1989) Apple Part

HI  Where can I find a logic board for iMac G5 17" (EMC No. 1989) Apple Part #: 661-3290, 661-3351?

    Thanks--makes life easier!
I found DV Warehouse has a number of G5 logic boards but none had the exact model number:
    http://www.dvwarehouse.com/iMac-G5-Logic-Board-c-4771.html&pltid=05fedd9f246e2a1 dbc9f35cd6712e781
They have a toll-free number. You could ask if another board # would be compatible.
Another option is to contact recylers or schools shucking off older gear. Using the enigma of " A used computer is worth more parted out," you might be able to pick up another G5 cheaper than its LB. Unless the LB had the dreaded "leaky capacitor" failure, most computers don't get discarded for a bad LB.

  • Can I buy a new Logic Board for an iBook G3 700 12"?

The Logic Board in my iBook G3 700 12" just died. My local reseller says it doesn't qualify for the replacement program.
Anyone know where can I get a NEW Logic Board for my iBook?
I don't like the thought of buying a used on on eBay and having the same problem 6 months from now.
    Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes, but the best place I know actually installs it for less money than they charge you for buying one outright:
    http://www.dttservice.com/ibookg3.html#ibookrepair
They offer a six-month warranty, which is better than most places (including Apple's own 90-day warranty on repairs).

    Hi-
    Here are a few:

  • Can you swap G5 PPC logic board for an Intel board?

If....and I'm hoping not....I have to get a new logic board for my G5 is it possible to sawp it for an Intel version? I mean, is it possible? I'm aware of the cost and such (Procs, memory) in addition but, may possible be tempted to do it if it's do-able.

Negative, the cases look similar but internally are EXTREMELY different. Even the later ( late 2005 ) G5 are internally different than the earlier G5.

  • Replacement logic board for my 20" cinema display?

I'm looking for good place online to buy replacement logic board for my 20" cinema display. Any suggestions?

You could ask the Apple store to let you have (or buy) one of the boxes they use to send the displays in for repair. They should have these on hand.

    likely display inverter board.
did you get your inverter board replaced already?
    Did you have a question?
If the diagnostic in shop indicates same, thats 1000X better than anyone can do online in "diagnosis" (not really genuine diagnosis of course)

Why in the world does it cost sooo much to replace the logic board for your macbook pro.
As if apple hasn't made enough money to allow some people to save some money..

Do you think Apple should reward your clumsiness or lack of caution by giving you a logic board for free, or at cost? Come to think of it, shouldn't they just give you a free new computer, and be grateful to you for taking it off their hands?
Apple isn't a charity operated for the benefit of the careless.

  • Will Apple replace my Logic Board for free?

Sounds crazy I know. But I read a bunch of different threads on many sites saying they replace it for free and some say they don't. Let me explain why I believe I shouldn't pay to get this repaired. Since I bought my MBP I've had problems from it. When I got it I kept getting the message saying...you need to restart your computer...otherwise known as a Kernal Panic. I took it to apple , they couldn't find the problem so they replaced the hard drive for free. This didn't fix the problem but I did not feel like having to continue to take my computer to apple because I do all of my work on my computer so I really didn't the time and I just worked around it. Just recently my computer has began to shut off randomly while using certain programs such as Chrome and Apple Motion. After putting a thread on here I've learned that this is a kernel panic once again but being caused by the logic board. Now I don't know if I received a faulty computer but day one I've been having these problems. Which is the reason I'm asking will Apple repair what wasn't caused by the user?
I need to add that I love Apple and their products, I've had and have many computers and other devices from them that function flawlessly. This MacBook Pro is the only thing I'm having a problem with.
Thanks for any help that anyone one can provide.

Took me a little bit to get this posted becuase i just had another kenrmal panic, but here it is.

  • Sourcing and fitting a logic board for my crocked ibook - any tips?

    hi
like quite a few others, it seems, the logic board on my g3 ibook 14.1in has passed away. i don't have any apple care coverage, and nor am i covered by the logic board extension repair programme (though quite why, no one at mac was able to explain to me). so begins the hunt for a new or second-hand logic board which i'm (gulp) going to try to fit myself.
if any one had any tips as to where i might get a good deal on the correct logic board, i'd be very grateful. also, am i mad to try to fit one myself? my tech-literate IT genius of a brother is actually going to be wielding the scalpel, while i pace up and down beside him. and i have found a guide with pix on the net - but any encouraging words would be very welcome...
    thanks
    mike
    G3 iBook 900mhz 14.1in   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   got an emac too...

    hi
thanks to you both for your help. here's what happened in the end...
i phoned customer service twice to try to persuade them that my ibook ought to be repaired under the logic board extension repair programme - i was told on both occasions that it didn't qualify. so i tried a third time, for luck, and it worked - the computer was repaired for free under the programme. i'm just going to pick it up now.
seems to me that the customer service team isn't quite au fait with the qualification criteria as detailed on the programme's FAQ, so it's worth being patient with them. in my case, i think the fact that my computer was a refurbished ibook threw them - it had a serial number beginning RMxxx, not UVxxx, but it did fall within the models specified for the programme, a fact which, eventually, was acknowledged. the result is that i've saved myself at least £500.

  • Logic Board was replaced - Now Time Machine does not show previous backups

    Hi
    Bit desperate here.
My Apple store changed my hard disk and the logic board along with it.
I'm now aware that this means my MAC address has changed - which is what your Time Machine looks for when it tries to back up.
So now the backups are failing, and I KNOW there's a HINT offered on macosxhints.com
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101&query=Time%2Bmach ine%2Blogic
    - but I have absolutely NO previous experience with TERMINAL and minute I try to re direct terminal to my Time Machine Volume : it tells me there is no such file or directory. It's all gobbledygook to me. I think the person that wrote it ASSUMED some previous knowledge of using terminal.
The things I DO know are: My MAC address number, and my TM Volume is called The BIG BACKUP (not Time Machine). It doesn't
Can anyone make this clearer for me, or indeed is there an easier way.
I know I could just tell TM to change disk and just star afresh - but I'm under the impression that it's very uneccessary for me to lose all my previous backups.
Hey, many, many thanks if you can help
    Simon

    Hello K.V.
(I'm having to come back to this when I get a minute at the moment)
Many thanks for your suggestions so far. Several things have occured:
Firstly I did what you instructed in your last post, that seem to let me go on without any further errors - so I then when back to my desktop - dismounted The BIG BACKUP and restarted the whole mac, remounting the The BIG BACKUP. I went to the 'Back Up Now' commend to test it and it failed, sayind it could not find the file or directory.
So this evening I started in terminal from scratch - when I got to the ls -al command I noticed that my old address was no longer in the list, it was on the line before the new address before (I also punched in the wrong mac address intially but spotted it and rectified my mistake .001f5beb34e5 being the correct one) as you can see from below it now says my old address is No such file or directory.
Here is a copy of what happened

    Very confusing huh.
To be honest now, I guess my prime concern is if I've made any damaging changes to things I don't understand or not - and I think it may be best if I accept the Time Machine starting afresh from square one by clearing the external drive and re-directing TM to it. I could live with this I guess, so long as it worked.
    What do you think?
    Many thanks
    Simon
