LOGIC PRO; with Macbook or Macbook Pro???????????????????????

Just wondering if you could help me. I 'm hesitating to buy MacBook or MacBook pro to use the LOgic Pro7. My question is; do you think that with the MacBOok will work properlly, or not? Do I need to buy the MacBook Pro? Please, help me becouse I should buy it in one week time....and I am soo confused

I'm sure Stefy, willing to spend 700 quid on Logic Pro, was not planning on using the build in speakers of any laptop to do music. If so: Wrong. You can however use the build in analog (or digital) output to hook up to a stereo or to active monitors, they aren't bad at all. I've done it myself a few times when on the road.
As for soundcards, I can warmly recommend the new tc Konnekt series. The mic pres are really good for the price (and I use Neve, SSL, Fairchild, Neumann and the like when it comes to pres on a daily basis, just so you know where I come from), and generally they seem quite solidly build and the drivers too (even though the GUI is a bit, ehm, quirky).
Express vs. Pro. Well. You do get some some quite good Logic-only plugs with Pro that aren't there in Express and with the intel based portables you can actually USE these plugs too. There's a few features that I really like in Pro that aren't in Express too. Strip Silence, Curve Tool, those sorts of things. That being said, having to deal with the XSKey sticking out the side of your laptop is a bit hairy, so what I do is I run Express when on the road-on the road, and Pro (XSkey and a couple of iLoks) when stationary-on the road (so to speak). Luckily, the two haven't got any probs whatsoever opening each other's songs. In fact, I've had clients come over with sketches they'd done in GarageBand and both Logics open them NP as well.
It would be good to know what you're actually planning to use Logic for, Stefy. Then it's much easier to advice you.

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option? I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt! Failed Logic Board with April 2010 MacBook Pro?
I went to the Genius Bar today to ask about repeated Kernel Errors with my 2010 MacBook Pro. The person who helped me said that the logic board was failing because of the graphics card and that it would cost $310 to repair.
My Mac is an A1286 model with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB Graphics.
Reading about Macs with NVIDIA graphics I immidately found that there were issues with the generation prior to my Mac, 2007-2008 Macs with NVIDIA 8600M GT.
So what I want to know is have any other Mac users had issues with their 2010 Macs and their graphics cards? My Mac has always run hot (too hot to actually use as a laptop because it turns my legs red!) and I figured it was just the nature of the machine. I now have one USB drive that is slowly failing (doesn't like my mouse). I haven't had any weird graphics issues, just the random restarts and a freeze now and then.My March 2010 15" Macbook Pro's logic board just failed. Here's my report:

13" Macbook Pro with retina or MacBook Air?
Hello All,
This is my first post to this forum and I need an advice for buying my first MacBook ever. The time has come that I have decided to invest into a Mac and have always been a PC user until now. I was planning to buy the 13" 256GB version (1500 USD). My goal is to learn coding (JavaScript, PHP/MySQL, and HTML, Drupal for Web design) on the bust commute, with little to none intention of doing gaming on the machine. But plan to watch video/tutorial files, movies etc.
But I am reading some concerning reviews/complaints of people about the MacBook Pro with Retina series and I want to know whether the latest version (as of today, Feb 21st, 2014) of rMBP is problematic. Here is what I have learned about the existing issues so far and I would like if folks here could give me a piece of advice which one should I choose (Air vs Pro)?:
1) The trackpad/system sudden freeze;
2) The image retention/persistence problem;
2) Overheating when watching a video;
Honestly, I feel disappointed that Apple computers are having so many issues.
Are these issues still a problematic as of today for rMBP? Will the heating be problematic fo watching a movie for 1-2 hrs? Is it better to go with the air rather?

MacBook pro with QT 7.1 pro won't play dv files exported from imovie
I have been exporting Full Quality dv files from my imovie projects for viewing on my MacBook pro with QuickTime. After upgrading QuickTime from 7.0 to 7.1(pro), these files are now unwatchable. There are jagged horizontal lines along edges, especially edges that are moving. (The desktop Mac at my office does not have this problem, but it is a G5 (rather than Intel) and does not have QTpro. I tried updating everyrhing to latest versions (QT 7.1.6) but stripes persist.
Has anyone else seen this?But to answer your question, you might be able to create a ISO of the DVD and burn that to a new DVD.
Insert your DVD.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app.
In the left side of the window, select the “DVD”.
Click “New Image” from the Disk Utility toolbar and select where you want to save the temporary image. For “Image Format”, choose “DVD/CD master” and for “Encryption”, choose “none”.
The image extension in the “Save As” box will be .cdr (this is what you want) — click “Save”.
Once the temporary image is created, it will show up on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Select it.
Insert a blank DVD (I prefer Verbatim discs).
Click “Burn” from the Disk Utility toolbar.
Another problem could be that you burned the DVD using a codec that your new machine doesn't have.
Install Perian, VLC and Flip4Mac, that combination will play anything.
Also install Flash for web content and Silverlight for Netflix.

Insurance company replacing my Mac Pro with MacBook aluminium...
I recently smashed the screen of my MacBook Pro. Apple quoted me around £300 to replace the screen and casing.
I then sent it off to get repaired by the Insurance company who have come back saying it is "beyond economic repair" (I find that hard to believe) so they are replacing my late 2011 model MacBook Pro with an aluminium MacBook (I'd never heard of them).
My main concern is that I'm being given an old model MacBook to replace a MBP which was in good condition other than a cracked screen. Does this sound right?
The insurance company have said the MB aluminium has higher specs than my MBP did...I don't know if I believe this either.
Any light shed would be greatly appreciated.The latest MacBook made of aluminum is the late 2008 model. It was discontinued in June 2009. It lacks any FireWire ports, which any MacBook Pro would have. You do not say what size display your MBP had but none of the MacBooks are anything but 13". The MBP supports up to 8GB of RAM, the MacBook only 4GB. The Late 2011 MBP supports Tunderbolt digital video output, the MacBook does not. The list goes on and on. This is not an even trade they are offering.

It sounds like your MBA power adapter is dead. Replace it with the 85 Watt for the Macbook Pro. I just bought one 2 weeks ago and was delighted to discover it has the low profile magsafe connector that works just fine with the MBA. The Macbook Pro adapters work on everything, so that's all I buy when power adapters fail.

I'm using Logic 9 with a Macbook Pro. On one project I'm getting a message 'not enough processor power' and the computer stops playing
I've tried freezing all tracks but this has no effect. I've also bounced all soft synth tracks to audio, but to no avail. The computer stops playing
even at the start of the track where there is nothing but a kick drum happening.......Thank you for the suggestions.
I had previously tried all of the above but the airport/wireless thought. Unfortuneately, none of these things made a difference, including the wireless suggestion.
Currently, I am using my Mac's "cheapo" internal audio hardware (haha). I have a one year old 27-inch iMac, a good pair of bose speakers, and a polk sub. I don't believe it is an issue with my setup, considering I completely disconnected and unplugged it.
I did, however, do a little info hunting on the internal audio situation, since I was curious what is actually included, and I stumbled upon this interesting little tidbit about my model of iMac:

I had previously wondered if I was hearing my mouse in my speakers as well (not just in logic). It appears that this model of iMac may have some grounding issues, as someone later in the thread suggested purchasing and using a ground loop isolator, which seemed to fix any extra interference for them.
Ironically though, I have since opened logic, and do not seem to be encountering my previous static issue(yet).
Fingers crossed, hoping that I will not be experiencing it again. Going to purchase a ground loop isolator, and continue to mess around with logic, just to make sure it was not just an internal audio issue with my iMac. -

Hi! is it possible that Logic X has upgrades that work only with mavericks and does t work in mountain lion....since in my macbook pro with mavericks i have new views of the equalizer, etc and in my mac pro with mountain lion it still the old view...
Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

I am having a problem with my 2009 Macbook Pro

I am having a problem with my 2009 Macbook Pro . A few weeks ago I plugged it into the charger after running it down to reserve battery power. It appeared to be charging, but then all of a sudden my clock and calender reset to year 2000 and then my computer blacked out and went dead. I tried to boot it up but nothing happened (literally nothing). I have tried 3 different chargers on it, but all I get is a faint green light and even after hours it still won't boot up. I have tried replacing the battery, but still nothing happens.
Any Ideas? I am pretty desperate to get my computer back up and running before school finals.You may have to see if an authorized Apple service specialist can check over
the charging system (magsafe dc-in board, power adapter, and MacBook/Pro)
and test or run a diagnostic on it, to be sure there is no damage or failed parts.
When you attached the adapter to charge the computer, after it said it was going
to reserve power, did you shut down open applications and stop using the MB/Pro?
That would've been the thing to do, since the margin of run-time near the bottom
of the power cycle can be wrong by the gauge estimate, it can just quit.
While I have not researched your year/model/series in detail, I do know some
models of Apple portable computers have a small battery or capacitor on the
logic board, separate from the main power battery; it may need replacement.
A service provider w/ Apple training & parts would be a likely resource to fix it.

Apple replaced the logic board, wiped the computer, did a fresh instal of the OS, and also a fresh instal of all the programs during the beginning of 2015. The GeekBench scores are the highest of any of the similar computers (at least on the day of my testing). But here's what's happening. The Macbook Pro Retina has a GeForce GT 650m with Cuda Technology and it can't handle editing in Premiere Pro with Cuda Acceleration turned on. Open CL, a second form of graphic acceleration on the Macbook Pro, appears to be functioning properly.
At the Apple Store on 1-10-2015, I was told that since the logic board and the graphic cards have been replaced that there is nothing they can do and they recommend contacting Corporate. This comes after they told me to buy a new logic board and that that would solve the problem. This comes after Apple did not listen, for over a month, about the possibility that they didn't properly build a professional notebook computer.
The computer displays a black program monitor screen, at random times, when the user edits footage with Cuda Acceleration enabled. It used to lead to an entire system crash and/or a Premiere Pro crash before the operating system was completely re-installed. My solution, since I bought the computer, was to edit in Open CL... However, I've come to learn that there is a major difference in performance between Open CL and Cuda Acceleration.
For the Macbook Pro Retina, Adobe Media Encoder render times are about 20% faster with Cuda Acceleration than Open CL. The 2013 Macbook Pro Retina appears to be able to handle Cuda Acceleration in Media Encoder, but I have had a number of issues leading to program crashes on every project before the new logic board and operating system were installed. For over a year and a half, I actually never used Cuda Acceleration. Having sent every crash report and user data to Apple over that time, I truly expected an update of some sorts and it never came.
FYI: The latest Macbook Pro Retina uses the GeForce GT 750m... This is essentially the same graphic card that performs about 10 - 20% faster due to a new "boost mode." More importantly, it actually has the exact same number of Cuda cores. Having the same number of Cuda Cores means that the Cuda Acceleration is essentially the same when exporting or viewing video. To prove a point to Apple that their 2013 Macbook Pro Retina isn't functioning properly, I bought the latest computer with the 2.5 i7, 16gb Ram, 512gb SSD and I can honestly say that the 2014 model works perfectly fine with Cuda Acceleration turned on while editing in Premiere. I can also say that a proper render test proved the 2013 and 2014 model to be the exact same.
I'm new to this whole pay $2700 for a computer that your manufacturer didn't / can't test properly, so I will be contacting Apple and speaking with Senior Advisors, their Customer Support division, and will soon speak with their Corporate branch. I'm confident that the Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with a 2.7 i7 16gb Ram and a 512 SSD is nearly the same at rendering video and editing video, provided the Cuda Acceleration works, as their latest 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with the 2.5 i7 processor 16gb Ram, and a 512 SSD. It's truly a great computer and a great build, minus their current inability to properly test / diagnose their computer.
Knowing that the latest graphic card in the Macbook Pro lineup is essentially the same model, I feel that Apple is not directly looking into the viability and life span of their current Macbook Pro Retina product line. They can't test for performance issues relating to their graphic cards, so why consider buying from them when the end user is actually in a position to experience up to a 20% decrease in certain professional programs.
For future reference, I'd strongly urge other individuals to avoid purchasing Apple products if they offer Cuda Technology. In my opinion, Apple is an Open CL organization, at best, who is not responsibly manufacturing / producing computers that fit their organization's strengths. For a fact, they can't test their Cuda Technology and won't even attempt to address Cuda Acceleration errors for Apple owners (01-11-2015). I say this having walked out of the Apple Store on 1-10-2015 with virtually no support other than to contact Corporate.Looks like a RAM issue.
