LogonUI.exe bad image - authui.dll error. Cant system restore or restore to factory settings

Hi,
My notebook which is a HP pavilion dm4 beats edition computer which runs WIndows 7 home premium, was just bought 2 months and I've been using it just for 2 months.
Yesterday morning it was working fine, and I didnt download any new software or do any changes but in the evening when i turned it on,
after the 'starting windows' screen, it was this error message
LogonUI.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\authui.dll is either not designed  to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again  using the original installation media or contact your system administrator the  software vendor for support.
I tried safe mode, it goes back to the same error screen.
When i try pressing f8 and go to 'last known good configuration' it goes to the error screen as well.
I tried pressing f8 and going to HP recovery manager and selecting system restore but it says no system restore points have been created, when I try to create one or go forward, it says the computer is running in a limited state and its not possible.
The option 'restore to factory settings' can not be selected, I dont know why. The cursor does not change colour of the option when it goes above it, and that option cant be selected.
My recovery partition is there and I have not done any adjustments to it.
The only thing that opens is a command prompt window, could you assist me on how to restore to factory settings through this? Because typing rstui.exe brings the same message saying no restore points have been created.

I cant chose system recovery, the option cant be selected.
When I can go onto command prompt after going to 'advanced boot options' but then typing sfc /scannow says the computer needs a reboot, once you reboot, its just the same thing.
Normally starting windows or starting windows in safe mode gives the LogoUI.exe bad image error just before when I would normally scan my fingerprint or enter the password.
I tried putting in a windows cd, but it wont let it 'repair the computer' but trying to reinstall windows, no hard disks are visible. Its like I dont have a hard drive.
But you can go to command prompt and go into dir you can view all my files. But just searching for C, it says directory of C was not found.
Its just really strange because the laptop worked fine in the morning, and in the evening, as soon as I turned it on, it was just this black screen and an error msg

Original problem is that I cannot connect to any wifi system anymore - have tried resetting network settings but did not work.

Try 1 step at a time and do a backup, if no joy then do the next step:

Shift the two dlls out of your system32 folder, Jim. Apple Application Support Installers don't know they're there, and that can lead to you getting trouble after an update if the dlls have been updated since then, and iTunes/QuickTime/Safari/Mobile need the newer version of the dll.

  • Tried to update my iPad  OS from iTunes. Frozen and got an "unknown error msg". I tried to restore the iPad to factory settings..got the same

I bought today a new iPad from Rideau Store. The setup guys didn't update to latest software version. I tried to do myself trough iTunes, which notify me that an upgrade is available. After a while the upgrading process froze with a msg "unknown error ..". I clicked on the More  info  button and I got a page saying "due to a scheduled upgrade of Apple's support system some feature are not available.
The bottom line is that now the iTunes does detect the iPad being in recovering mode and asks to restore it to fabrics defaults. I tried to do this and again I got aqn "unknown error"
Finally I run the iTunes diagnostics to check the connectivity between my iPad and my HP laptop (iTunes). For unknown reson the iTunes does not detect my iPad. See below the diagnostics log:

  • While trying to back up my iPhone i keep getting the error message that it cannot read the contents of my phone... It then directs me to restore it back to factory settings. Anyone know why this is happening?

I've used this same iTunes account multiple times to back up phones and restore them when I've gotten new devices. I have restored this device as well once before, but i want it as up to date as possible becuase I am getting the iPhone 6 tomorrow. I've run a diagnostics test and under the connectivity test its saying there is no iPhone found, as well as under the sync test. I've gone through all the steps and what the possible problem could be (un-installing and re-installing, making sure all the software is active and up to date on my computer and making sure everything is installed correctly and running properly) and I'm still getting the same error message. I'm out of options and idea. Please help!

  • Trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit - setup.exe fails due to msxml3.dll error PDApp message [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154

If anyone is able to solve this they are a genius (or I am doing something very stupid!)
I am trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit PC but setup.exe fails due to a msxml3.dll error.
Following a big bundle of recent Windows 7 updates, I started getting 'bad image' msxml3.dll error messages when opening any CS5.5 master collection program (Eg Premiere / Photoshop / Illustrator / Dreamweaver). Following advice on some threads here I tried uninstalling and then using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool to clean up install, then reinstalling from my original DVD media.
Whenever I try using run setup.exe from installtion disc 1 the installing fails due to 'Missing files'. I have also tried dowloading trial versions and runing setup.exe fro mthe downloaded files but i still get the same message.
I have searched the forum and others have experienced this error but none of the solutions I have found seem to be working for me - as many seem to relate to download installations whereas I am installing from original DVD media (which worked fine before on the same PC)
These are the FATAL messages from the PDApp log
    12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Could not initialize ADXML object
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Unable to initialize. Error parsing setup.xml file
The PDApp troubleshooting seems to indicate that this is caused by error in downloads but I am getting it with both original media DVD and downloads.
I have also tried using my logon (which has admin privileges) and under our main admin account - and I get the same errors.
Is a clean install of Windows 7 + CS5.5 my only option?
Any help / info / advice / solutions very much appreciated! I have spent the last 2 days trying to sort this out and seem to be getting nowhere.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply kglad - much appreciated.
I have already tried that option (along with downloading files) as it was one of the solutions mentioned on other threads, but that also failed.
    Any other ideas?

  • Hal.dll error error message: here is the solution !

Thanks to endership for the procedure. For people who were getting the hal.dll missing file error message or for those who are wondering about the right way to install Windows XP SP2 with Bootcamp, here is the steps you have to follow.
    1) First, get an original Windows XP SP2 cd and be sure that your CD is bootable and that you can access the recovery console in a repair function (not all the cds got the function, so be careful).
2)After, you go in Apple applications, utilities and you click on the boot camp assistant
3)If you got a Windows partition already created that is not working, resulting from a bad installation of Windows with bootcamp, just merge the two partitions (windows and mac os x) using the restore function.
4)Use 32 Go for Windows (default option) and be sure that your Windows cd is in the drive and launch the installation.
Computer will reboot in the installation program after that all the drivers has been loaded (the blue screen lasting about 5 minutes).
5)Once your are in the installation menu, just select the option that takes you to the repair console.
6)You will get a C: command line, sort of MS-DOS. Like mentionned enderfish, type "diskpart" to visualize the partitions created and be sure that the c: drive is labeled "bootcamp". Just return to repair console in the c: command line.
    7)type the following command line:
    FORMAT c: /Q /FS:NTFS
You will get a quick format of the c: drive in the NTFS file system. It will also probably work in FAT32, but I've never tried.
8)After that the format has been done, hit the POWER button to reboot.
9)You will be back in the installation menu; you'll also have to wait once again during 5 minutes for the drivers loading process.
10)Once you get in the installation blue screen, just choose the partition that has been created and choose to let the file system intact.
11)Windows XP will be copying install files on the HD, install Windows XP SP2.
12)Once, the installation is done and you entered in Windows (if you followed the instructions carefully), insert in the cd drive, the Leopard CD and install Windows drivers.
    13)Reboot
    14)Enjoy!

In my experience (because this happened to me), I found that it was a -user error- (mine). I reviewed Apple's instructions (which said to reformat the BOOTCAMP partition) and DELETED the BOOTCAMP "C:" partition (from within the XP installer) first. When you do this, it combines with partition with the "unused" 128MB partition that separates the Mac partition from "C:".
Apparently the 128MB partition really -is- used for something; probably to help redirect XP to the proper location to find hal.dll (which is why the file -even if repaired/replaced- continues to be reported as missing/corrupted). Even XP's automatic repair won't fix this issue (as it proceeds to copy -everything- anew and still fail upon reboot with the same error).
The answer seems to be "don't delete the C: partition". Instead, just select it, hit ENTER and, -in the next screen-, format the partition (Quick is OK). Everything proceeds properly at that point.
I just finished doing seven iMacs and tried quite a number of alternate solution (suggested here and elsewhere). The only thing that worked consistently was following Apple's directions!
By the way, once I got one Mac working properly (using FAT32 as I had only a 32GB partition and I wanted to have the PC partition appear on the Mac's Desktop if we booted into OSX), I imaged the partition and tried restoring it to another Mac on which I had only used BootCamp Assistant to partition the drive. Booting into XP produced the same hal.dll error. However, if I restored to a partition that had already had a successful XP installation done to it in the proper manner, this replacement of the partition's data with the image's data was successful. (I don't know why. I tried both a "master" image and a "compressed" image; only the compressed image worked and only as noted above.)
I'm not writing this to come off as a guru; rather, this is simply what ended up working for me and I thought others might benefit from knowing what mis-steps I took (and would then not follow in those mis-steps).

  • Java.exe - Bad Image

    Hi
I have a routine that recursively runs through a database to calculate totals of 'children 'associated with a particular parent. I mention this for the following reason. This program does absolutely nothing with the filesystem of the machine it runs on.
What happens when I execute is that I get the following error:
A windows pops up with the title "java.exe - Bad Image" and the error message seems to be a windows error message and is NOT a java exception. It reads as follows..
"The application or DLL "some path" is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
Now if I delete the file it points to the problem goes away, but my problem is not the fix, it's why is it doing this when my application does not interact with the file system in the least?
Usually the path it points to is the \nativelib directory of my J2ee installation.
    System Stats:
    - Windows 2000 Professional
    - 512 Meg of Ram
    - JDK 1.3.1

Its sounds like a DLL that is being loaded by your Java executable is damaged in some way. Theres a tool shipped with the NT/2000 resource kits which should be able to diagnose these sorts of problems. Its called something like Dependency Checker or Dependency Walker.

  • I want to Sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes however I get an error message from iTunes each time I connect the phone to the PC saying that I should restore to factory settings. Frustrating because it's already annoying enough that I can't drag and drop mp3's!!!

I have never been so frustrated before in my life with any phone. I find it obnoxious as it is that I cannot simply drag and drop files (especially MP3's) straight from my PC directly into my phone, which I have been used to doing up until now. Everyone who convinced me to get the iPhone has instructed me that my frustration can be fixed by downloading iTunes and syncing it all up via that program (which I have never used before). So, I downloaded the program successfully, however when I connect the iPhone 4 to the PC and iTunes is open, I get an error message that 'iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone "iPhone" and that I should go to the Preferences tab of the iPhone and select 'restore' to restore this phone to factory settings. First of all, I don't understand why I need to do that. I have already downloaded apps and other important things in the 2 days that I have the phone. I am also scared that it will erase my contacts. This is such a headache. Music is very imporatant to me, but I am getting so frustrated that I don't have freedom over the phone which I thought was supposed to be one of the best out there. I would really appreciate help in this matter. I am sure the phone is great but I am on the verge of taking it back and getting something else.

  • My iPod Classic 120GB is clicking and not turning on. It has been charged but does not hold charge. I am not able to restore factory settings. Error code and have tried troubleshooting options without success. Thoughts?

My iPod Classic 120GB makes a clicking noise when syncing with iTunes and will not sync. It will not turn on at this time and has been charged but does not hold the charge. After trying to sync, iTunes states that iPod must be restored. Have tried to do this but not successful, I receive an error code and have done the troubleshooting steps for the error and I am still not able to sync or use my iPod. HELP?

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings

    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • How do I restore Mac Mini late 2009 to factory settings. Error occurs.

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 2.26 ghz core and 2 GB memory running Lion 10.7.4. I wish to restore my computer to factory settings but when I put in my Snow Leopard disc I continue to get an error message that reads "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1."
I wish to restore my Mac to Snow Leopard and then redownload Lion from the App Store and start fresh with 10.7.4 on my restored Mac but I am finding it incredibly difficult.

You might have to erase the Drive first, but did you try reinstalling Lion from the Restore Partition?
    Hold CMD+r keys at bootup?
    Otherwise...
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
