Long delays when saving or loading labview .vis

I have noticed as my program got larger, that everything has slowed down as far as loading and saving the vi's. I seemed to have tracked it down to a few vi's which are run in re-entrant mode. I call this vi Move.vi. It is called at least 150 times within my entire program. Any time I make a small change to this vi, and save, it takes almost 1 minute. If I change the properties of the vi to Non-Reentrant (which also takes me 1 minute just to see the effect change while the Windows CPU usage hits 100%), the problem is solved.
Within this vi, I am creating a local reference and passing it to yet another vi, which eventually calls a vi (passes the reference) and continues without waiting for the called vi. to finish (I do end the reference when it is done).
I am not sure if this is the cause, but it is getting worse as I add more of these Move.vi's into my program. Any ideas?
PS. This vi is only 56KB large. The vi above it (which calls Move.vi 150 times within its loops), is 1.4MB large.

On a side note, may I ask what the reason is that you set it to reentrant, this would only make sense if each instance retains local data. But 150 instances!? (See also a similar discussion in this earlier thread. Are the results correct if the VI is not set to reentrant? Any difference in execution time?
150 different calls of a reentrant VI in a single VI seems like a mindboggling nightmare. Even tightly tiled, these VIs alone would occupy ~400x400 pixels on the diagram. There has to be a better way to do this!

What kind of reference (VI reference, control reference, etc.). So you probably create 150 individual references (one for each reentrant VI). Are you sure you're closing all of them?
Can you provide some details on your project, maybe share the small VI with us.

  • Long delay when sending non-btinternet mail

We are using Outlook Express/Windows mail client, and there is a long long delay when sending mail.
It just hangs saying "Connecting..." in the status bar. Receiving email has no problems.
Eventually it sometimes works or sometimes just times out.
The smtp server is not btinternet/yahoo but our own email server, which we have been using for 10 years. There is no problem pinging the smtp server. e.g. smtp.ourserver.net
It works without delays on other (non BT) home/business networks.
We have tried plugging other laptops into this home network and trying to send email (to the same mail server) - same problem.
It therefore seems to be peculiar to a BT Hub or BT as the ISP.
The problem seems to have first appeared when an upgrade was made to cater for future fibre optic services.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today I started from my Firewire-device with 10.4.11 and had ichat running from there. I chatted with my friend, who is on 10.5.1 - no problems at all. (so my router is not causing the problem, as I thought)
Starting from 10.5.1 again I opened up Activity Monitor and found this message every 10 secs !

I remember that I installed Little snitch some time ago and removed it manually. Then today I run the official uninstaller for it. Still I cannot get rid of this activity. May be it has to do something with the text delay in ichat? How to delete all Little Snitch processes? How can someone find these data?

  • Long delay when logging in Network User

    Hello,
We are running into a weird problem.
We have an XServe G5 2.0 GHz DP with 5 GB RAM, providing multiple services to a small school.
The Users have Network-based accounts, and are authenticated via OD on the same server.
Lately, Users have started experiencing a very long delay when logging in.
At the login prompt, if they input the wrong password, they get "the shake" right away, which indicates that the authentication speed is rather fast. If they do input the right credentials, nothing happens for 25 - 30 seconds, and then login proceeds as usual, fairly quickly. The machines are normally responsive from there on, i.e. it is not a network performance issue. Also, even if no one is on the server, the first one to log in runs into the same issue, i.e. it is not a server overload issue. Does anyone have an idea what is going on? Any suggestions for a solution will be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Alain Chammas

    Hi
This could be down to a time sync issue. Are Server and Clients all using the same Network Time Server? Do you see a similar delay when presenting the login window displaying a list of network users? If you did not know this is a computer list mananged preference. Anything unusual in the system.log?
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • Long delay when loading shell

we have 2 test servers here we are using for one of our clients. In theory, both are configured the same, but we are experiencing a long delay (2 or 3 minutes) when login on to the machine.
We get the delay when the shell is attempting to load. We get this issue if we login via ssh or if we do su - difuser.
su difuser does not cause the delay.
I've read about commenting out /usr/sbin/quota in /etc/profile, but that's not really an option for us.

We found the issue and why un-commenting quota fixed it.
We had a dead NFS mount. When the quota engin tried to check the quota on it, it would take forever to fail.

  • Browsing---long delays states it is 'loading' second third attempt works fine.

When I enter a search topic---there is a long delay--tool bar states 'searching'. If I then re-enter after going out of the screen and then in again---the same thing happens. If I repeat the above---after two or three times search commences like normal.
I find this very frustrating. If I go to another search engine this does not happen.

  • Long delay when trying to save print as PDF

For some reason, there is a long delay, usually up to five minutes, before the system will allow me to save a print as a PDF. I ran disk utility and no issues arose. Anyone know why this is happening?

    HI,
Make sure there is enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • Long Delay When Print Commands Sent To HP Wireless Officejet

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 connected via a wireless connection to my home LAN. I have a late 2009 iMac (ethernet connection) running the latest release of Snow Leopard. Both the HP printer device and scanner device show up as installed in the Print & Fax settings of preferences with full functionality and they both work. The printer is normally idle (in sleep mode) until one sends a command. Any print command sent from any Mac OS X application to the device takes about 40 seconds to wake up the device if it is idle. Print commands sent from Windows XP applications running via a bootcamp partition wake up the printer instantly.  Print commands sent from any other Windows OS based computer connected wirelessly on the LAN also wake the HP instantly.
I would appreciate any ideas as to why there is this delay when printing from Snow Leopard.

I installed from the HP CD that came with the Officejet. It says MAC OS X v104, v10.5, Version 9.8.0 (I assume this is the HP version) and then updated to the 2/11 Apple HP Driver update. So I appear to have followed your advice.
Note that Print & Fax preferences shows 2 devices for the Officejet. One is the printer and the other device is the fax. The printer has both printer and scan tabs. The fax does work as I just tried it. When I open the printer utility for the printer from within preferences, two devices are listed: The printer (green) and I can access the settings. The Fax identifed in its name as being at teh same ip address, but is is in red and the settings can not be accessed.
I opened the embedded web server to look at all the settings. I'm using DHCP.
Here is what I found under Networking:
    Host name is correct.
Proxy setting are blank, which is correct.
Network Protocols are set to Both IPv4 and IPv6
Under Wireless: IPv4 Addressing is set to Automatic IP & Automatic DNS Server. IPv6 is empty. The Advanced settings are all under Infrastructure and correct. Ad Hoc settings are blank. Compatibility has the 2nd item checked that says in an Ad Hoc network use 811.b behavior.

  • Long Delay when switching Flash cast members

I have a movie that uses Flash cast members as sprites. The Flash members are static images and are optimized as best they can be, but they are using Background transpaerent ink and cannot be direct to stage so I know they use a lot rescources. These sprites are rotated randomly, and that is why I must use Flash members since bitmaps look terrible when they are rotated.  The user can select to change the sprite's members to display different images.  I do this by changing the memberNum property of each sprite.   When that happens on some systems there is a delay of up to 2 seconds while the new Flash cast members are substituted.  All Flash members are internal and are set to Preload before Frame 1.
Can anyone think of what may be causing this delay?

Firstly, I'd suggest that rather than rotating the Flash sprite it may be simpler to rotate the contents of the Flash using Flash functions built into the SWF... I'm pretty sure it would be more efficient in terms of processing. If necessary you could wrap your SWF's content into a MoveClip within the main SWF, and then spin the MovieClip using Actionscript in the SWF (if you see what I mean).
As for the delay problem - have you tried using the sprite.member property rather than sprite.memberNum? For example:
    on changeMember me, aMemberName
         sprite(me.spriteNum).member = aMemberName
    end
I don't know if this would side-step the problem because I've never come across it before, but it's a thought. Bare in mind that memberNum can be ambiguous because it doesn't specify which cast the member is stored in.
Telling members to preload before frame 1 doesn't guarantee that they will be preloaded - you need to be sure that you've allocated enough preLoadRam. The following would allocate 1MB (1024 KB) of RAM for preloading
    on startMovie
         the preLoadRAM = 1024
    end
If your SWFs are large then you may need to up the preLoadRAM value (assuming you can be sure that your users' systems will have enough free RAM).
Finally, you can use the member.preload property to tell Director whether a SWF must load completely before it plays...:
    member("myMember").preload = true
... or whether the SWF can be streamed from disk as it plays...:
    member("myMember").preload = false
I hope some of this helps.

  • Long delay when opening a webpage on any Mac on my network!! help!

I've been suffering for months, waiting up to about five minutes at a time for a web page to load on my Mac Mini G4 on Safari. My brother has the same problem with his iMac G5. If I were to just open a page and let it load, half the time it would give me an error message after 10 mins but sometimes it just loads instantly. When it works, it loads very quickly. If I reload the page, it sometimes loads. Other times I have to reload many times before it responds, and I doubt my reloading does anything useful. I have Optimum Online cable and a Netgear WGR614 router. Could something be wrong with the router? PLEASE, I can't take it anymore, and I don't know what to do, so if anyone has an idea, please help! It may be an obvious solution because I really have no idea how to fix it.

The symptoms you describe are classic DNS lookup issues. DNS is the process whereby the system looks up the web addresses you type into the browser and converts them into IP numbers which the internet actually uses. Usually an ISP will have two or three DNS servers that the settings they provide for you will automatically use to undertake these lookups, and are either entered into the network preference pane on the system or into the router. Sometimes data doesn't get passed to the DNS server or get returned from them efficiently, so you should check the DNS server data provided by your ISP (either in their documentation or set within your router). There should be two IP addresses listed.
Enter these same addresses in the DNS Servers box in the ethernet (or Airport depending on how you connect to the router) preference pane, then click OK.
Actually any valid DNS server IP addresses will do, but those provided by your own ISP would generally respond faster than any others. However, if you find that even with them set into the network preference pane the lookups still are not reasonably fast, then do an internet search for 'DNS servers' and pick two or three IP addresses you find and enter those. As long as the servers are visible on the internet (and by their nature almost every DNS server is), even ones on the other side of the world will return the lookup data for you.

  • Liquify Cursor disappears when Saving and Loading Mesh (CC 2014.2.2)

    Hello.
    I'm using Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 for Mac on a perfectly built hackintosh (Yosemite, i7-4770K, GTX770, Intuos5 L, 32Gb RAM, 2 monitors).
The arrow cursor disappears randomly when dragged over the Save Mesh or Load Mesh dialogues. It's not that the arrow cursor disappears completely. Actually, instead of switching from liquify cursor to arrow cursor as it should, it stays a circle and I can see it behind the save/load mesh window. In order to make the arrow appear in front of the save/load mesh, I have to move it out of it, and carefully move it back in. If I drag the save/load mesh window to an area of the screen clear of the liquify filter window or to my second screen, the problem goes away.
Also, when liquifying, the cursor is a little laggy, like at a low frame rate and behind my pen. I can liquify with no problem, but I can't remember if this is the way the liquify cursor behaves now that the it is GPU accelerated.
All these problems go away if I disable "use graphics processor", but that's a no go for me. I have tried both OS X Default Graphic Driver and NVIDIA Web Driver, but it makes no difference.
    Any ideas?
    THANKS!

I've noticed it happens particularly when the arrow touches any of the text input fields, among other ways I haven't identified yet. The save mesh and load mesh are the only dialogs across Photoshop on which this problem happens.
Notice that the blue cursor drawn by me is where the cursor should be, and note that the liquify cursor can be seen behind the open mesh dialogue. In this case I have to draw the cursor outside of the open window, and drag it back in making sure I don't touch the search field.

  • Why are my LabView Dialog Boxes no longer modal when using the Example LabVIEW Operator Interfaces?

    Hello,
I have a step in my sequence that pops up a modal LabVIEW dialog box. My LabVIEW vi uses the TestStand - Start Modal Dialog.vi and TestStand - Stop Modal Dialog.vi as described in the example and it works as advertised when I'm using the TestStand Development environment however when I use the sample Operator Interfaces distributed with TestStand the Dialog boxes lose focus. I have the VI Properties->Window Appearance set to Dialog and have followed all of the instructions I could find for making a dialog modal. I've also reviewed all the documentation I could get my hands on including previous posts on this board and didn't see anything obvious.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I may be missing? Has anyone else experienced this problem and come up with the solution?
I am using LabVIEW 8.0 along with TestStand 3.5.
    Thanks,
    RG

    Hi RG,
Running the example modal dialog in the teststand3.5 examples folder and using labVIEW8.0, I notice that when  the Dialog is displayed its not active, but it is modal to the OI. Clicking on the Dialog panel makes it active. If you try to click on the OI panel behind, you can not. Is this what you are seeing?
I am using the Full labVIEW IO as supplied with TestStand and the example VI in the modal dialog folder is as supplied.
The LabVIEW Adapter is still configured to use the active labVIEW developement environment.
If I run the same example, only this time using LabVIEW7.1, the Dialog panel is active.
There is a patch to take it to labVIEW8.01, at this moment in time I am not sure what the update fixes.
There does seem to be a problem with TestStand3.5 (engine) and LabVIEW 8.0.

  • Long Delay When Putting MacBook in Sleep Mode

My 2 year old MacBook has recently started to take quite a bit of time to go into sleep mode. If I select sleep under the apple menu, it takes about 45-50 seconds for the screen to turn off. I can hear the computer running during this time - when the sound stops, the screen goes off and the sleep light begins blinking. In the past, my screen would go off immediately after selecting sleep mode. If I close it to launch it into sleep mode, the same thing happens - the sleep light doesn't start blinking for 45-50 seconds. I checked the Activity Monitor and nothing else is running that could cause the delay. Any thoughts?

You should check the "Disk Activity" section of the Activity Monitor to see if there is a lot of disk activity occurring. Most likely, the delay is it copying the RAM contents to the hard drive. It may be otherwise but this would be my best guess.
