Long OLAP running time on portal

Hi Experts,
I have a portal report (four queries) which takes very long to run and from the rsults of RSRDstat, one of the queries takes 1000 secs on OLAP whereas other queries are fine.
I tried to tested the report in Analyzer, IB and portal. It appears there are only about 20 to 40 secs OLAP time for the problematic query in Analyzer and IB and it is faster if it reads cache. However, it takes about 1000 secs in portal no matter it reads cache or not.
I have enable the query property option of structure selection and cal key figures (The problematic query has a big structure with cal key figure) and it did improve slightly.
I dont think users would want to change the query.
any ideas? Is there possible problem with Portal?
Thanks
Feng

With Portal you mean Webreport or the BI Portal?

  • Portal Run time error after deploying custom logon page par file in portal

    Hi Experts,
We have customized the standard portal logon par file for client XYZ and imported it with the same name (com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par)  in portal.
It is working fine for XYZ . And another client ABC wants the same customization for them also. So we took the par file from XYZ and imported it in ABC system. But in ABC system, we are getting Portal Run time Error. When we checked the logs, it is showing error in LogonBean class.Wwe have included the necesary jar files. Could anyone help us in identifying what is missing?
    Thanks

  • MSS PORTAL -  RUN TIME ERROR WHEN EXECUTING A WORK ITEM IN UWL

    Hi all,
I've a requirement wherein I need to have a custom screen in place of 'standard user decision' task in the UWL of MSS portal. I've developed a custom screen with Approve and Reject buttons and it works fine if I execute the work item from SAP inbox whereas in portal (UWL), it gives a run time error stating,
    Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing your request
    Exception id: 10:56_12/05/08_0020_509163550.
I'm sure that this error is due to missing configuration between the dynpro and the Portal. All inputs in this regard will be of great help and will be valuable to me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bharathi.

    Hi
Looking at the error message I feel like there is something wrong in the task object and object method. You are using a class in the task make sure that class has the IF_WORKFLOW. Mak sure the task is enabled with synchronous task method check box.

    Dear Experts,
To implement a portal, i need to setup java run time environment to our server. Please show me a way on how to do this.

You need to download the Java SDK for your apropriate operating system and install it as per the instructions from the provider. So, for example, with Windows you go to the Sun web site, download SDK 1..4 and then run the setup script.

  • Portal run time error while accessing R/3 transaction code

    Hi all,
We have configured R/3 system and BW system to the Portal.
In R/3 system we have user ids named "ADMIN" and "FIAR" . ADMIN is for adminstrator and FIAR is for FIAR module. I created the same user ids in Portal , for ADMIN i have assigned ADMINSTRATOR role and for FIAR BI as it is also for our BW system.
But when iam checking the r/3 iviews for FIAR , it shows PORTAL RUN TIME ERROR , while for ADMIN it works fine.
Can any body have some ideas about this , pts will be assigned,

  • F4 on Variable Screen for a DataStore Object Produces Long Run Time

We experiencing a long run time in returning values when we select F4 for the Variable 0COMP_CODE when we process query for a DataStore.  Before our upgrade to NW04S, we did not experience this issue.  As background, the DataStore (ODS) has not changed, the variable has not changed, and the query has not changed.
0COMP_CODE has the following configuration in RSD1:
Query Def. Filter Value Selection – Values in Master Data Table
Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn – Only Posted Values for Navigation.
These settings are exactly like this in our BW 3.5 system.
In my review of the differences, I found that in BW 3.5, the runtime is short because the selection that is returned is the Company Codes in the Master Data table, but in NW04S, the selection that is returned is the Company Codes within the ODS.
Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was your resolution?
    Thanks!

<b>Query Execution Filter Val. Selection</b> should help you a lot in improving performance for F4.
Three options are available for the <b>Query Execution Filter Val. Selection</b> field on the BEx tab that directly affect F4 searches.
<b>The Only Posted Values for Navigation</b> setting limits an F4 search to the values related to the query’s navigation state. It is the recommended setting if you’re working with less savvy BW end users who may have trouble identifying applicable values or are confused when faced with long lists of characteristics. This setting yields the <b>slowest performance</b> in terms of the F4 search.
<b>Only Values in InfoProvider</b> is a better option if you need a list of characteristic values for a variable that is limited to the transactional records in the InfoProvider that a query is being executed against. This setting is ideal for restricting users to the appropriate source when data is available in different InfoProviders with different values. For example, let’s say you have an InfoCube with billing data for Europe and another for the US. Each sales office will have different values, so by using this setting a variable can be restricted to the correct values.
<b>The Values in Master Data Table</b> setting allows users to list all possible characteristic values when they run F4. Recommend that you use it when you have transactional records for almost all the values across InfoProviders and users are aware of the relevance of the values for the navigation state.
While the Values in Master Data Table setting is the <b>fastest F4</b> search setting, you need to be aware of a couple of situations when using it. Users with authorization restrictions may have an F4 list returned with all the values from the master data table, but a subsequent query may not report the result. Instead it will generate an error message informing the user of the authorization restriction. Likewise, users may select values from the master data table that are not valid for the current query due to other restrictions. There may not be any records for an InfoObject in its underlying InfoProvider designed for a query, so the system returns a “no applicable data found” message.

  • Profile WS run time too long

My first test run (in dev) of the custom Java PWS against a SQL server database seems to be taking too long. Its seems to be taking appx. 1 second or more per user. This will be a problem when processing around 20,000 users. We can't have a PWS running for 4-6 hours everynight.
I'd really appreciate any tips to optimize this for faster performance. I am opening DB Connection and running 2 queries for each users and clsoing the statement and connection. Can I do this another way so I open the DB connection(and maybe statement) for the Profile Source only once and release the connection etc. after the whole job is done or in case of errors.
Please help as this could be a huge bottleneck for us!
    Thanks.
    Vanita
    Staples

    Hi Akash,
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately I don't have any signature field to limit the profile sync by. I am currently running the PWs in ToMCAT 4.1.30. We plan to deploy on WAS in dev. I am not sure if there is connection pooling being done by Tomcat in 4.1.30 version. Do you have any information on that? I am doing db connect and 2 property queries in the getuserproperties method.
    1. Would the connection pooling (if done in WAS) make any difference to the run time?
    2. Would opening the connection in initialize() method versus GetUserProperties() make any difference?
As always, thanks for your help.
    Vanita
------- Akash Jain wrote on 3/1/05 1:25 PM -------Hi Vanita,On recent hardware, you should be able to perform an initial profile sync at at a rate of ~10/second. This means you should be able to perform your 20k users profile sync in under an hour. Resyncs should be much faster if you use a signature attribute.
I'm going to assume you're hitting some database backend with a table structure like the following:Users Table String UserGUID Date LastModified
Properties Table int PropID String UserGUID String PropValue
You have your users keyed off a unique name - a GUID in this example - and properties in a seperate table keyed off PropID and GUID.
Lets review the protocol and each step:a) initialize() - sends the parameters of the profile sync to the PWS, this is a good place to do a single query to your database in order to cache all user unique names and signatures (LastModified dates) in a HashTable. This will make re-syncs much faster since subsequent AttachToUser() and GetUserSignature() calls will be derived from this HashTable.b) attachToUser() - in this call you can simply lookup your user record against the HashTable created in Initialize(). If no entry is returned, then throw a NoSuchUserException. If a user does exist continue.c) getUserSignature() - again use the HashTable created in Initialize() to lookup the signature for this user. return it as a String.d) getUserProperties() - if called, this means the signature you sent back in step (c) has changed since the last profile sync. you now want to make a call to your properties table (a single DB call) to load all the property values for the user. return these as a UserPropertyInfo object.
During an initital sync, you will always get to step (d) above. During re-syncs, assuming there is low churn, I'd say a max of 1% of your calls will get to step (d) and thus the re-sync should be an order of magnitude faster in most cases.
With respect to database connections - if you are opening and closing a connection for each user, this is pretty poor with respect to performance. Your best bet in Java is to use a single connection (this is a single threaded process) which is setup in initialize(). In the shutdown() method, close this connection.
I hope this helps, the combination of using a single connection, using the signature attribute and caching all the users unique names and signatures in one call at the start of the profile sync should drastically increase performance.
    Thanks,Akash

  • KE30 Report:-Takes very long time and ends in a Run time error

    Hi Expert,
Since last three  week (after up gradation of system) we are not able to run any of KE30 reports in Production system and its end with Run Time Error. Even in development system where data is minimum it is taking 45 Minutes to give output where it should take maximum 4-5 Minute. Before up gradation it was working fine
What could be the reason for this and how can i resolve this.
    Thanks in Advance
    Bipin Tiwari

    HI Sridhara
Thanks for quick response. After Up Gradation we ran SGEN T-code but no impact on system performance. There after we build new summarisation level in KEDVP (system proposed) and activated it but still it is taking 30-.35 minute to generate the report in Development system which should normaly take 1-2 Munite.
Can you suggest what else we can do or is there any better way for build summarisation level  in given scenario.
