LONG type field

Hello All.
Please, I need your help.
Has anybody a solution of how to put the data more than 32K to LONG-type field?
I can not update db structure to CLOB because it'll take time to change client-side applications(developed long time ago by other coders)...

If you need to trigger the load from within Oracle, I suppose you could have a Java stored procedure that called out to the operating system to invoke an external Java app... You could also write an ODBC/ OCI/ Pro*C application that could be called as an external procedure.

Copy data for long type field

I am trying to copy data from one table to another both have long type field.
but facing an error
like
SQL> copy from neo/neo1234@neo99_local insert temp using select * from temp1
Array fetch/bind size is 15. (arraysize is 15)
Will commit when done. (copycommit is 0)
Maximum long size is 80. (long is 80)
CPY-0012: Datatype cannot be copied

If I recall correctly there's a restriction that prevents you selecting LONG datatypes over a remote connection.But SQL*Plus COPY command should be able to handle LONGs.
Maybe the table has other datatypes not supported by COPY?!

Using long type field

hi, supposed that i have a table that have one field LONG type. now i want to use this long type field like that ;
insert an exe file about 25-35 mb to this long type field. and then i want to take and down this exe file under c:\try directory and execute this file. i use forms developer as tool
how can i do ? coluld you say any idea ?

Does it have to be a LONG?
LONGs are difficult to use properly. There are many limitations. LOBS (BLOB or CLOB) are generally much easier and more consistent to use.
Oracle has published 2 documents that are useful for you. The 'Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals' and 'Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects' manuals include sample code.
And finally - could you use WebDAAV (Oracle's implementation is ORADAV). That allows you to display a column as a Windows drive.

Problem on Export to Excel - converts Long type field to General (Unknown)

hello! i used JSP to export table data to excel.. there's nothing wrong with the data displayed.. But the problem is.. when one of the fields is computed and retrieved in the JSP, and then exported to excel, it converts the Long type field to General and therefore cannot be computed when being used in a formula. Also, when you change it's type by right clicking the cell and chose "Format Cells", it still can't change it's type to number even if you have it changed. Therefore can't be computed..
I have other number fields but they were just retrieved and not computed as they were exported to excel.. But they don't change their types like the computed ones..

hello! i used JSP to export table data to excel..Yuck. :p Didn't even consider it being possible. I'd use a servlet anyway, after all, it's designed to be able to stream out non-HTML.
there's nothing wrong with the data displayed.. But

formula. Well, since there is no class in the standard API that handles Excel files, you migh want to ask the support of whoever provided your tool.

JSP and Oracle "LONG" type

I am trying to get the data from a LONG-Type field into the JSP
page.
When I write the rs.getObject(columnName), or
rs.getAsciiStream(columnName), or
rs.getString(columnName)
I would always get the following SQL error message: "Stream has
already been closed".
Do you know how to retrive the LONG data type from the results
Set?

Importing an SQL Server TEXT data type field in Oracle - problem with LONG

Hello,
I work in Oracle 9i and I created a view on a distant SQL Server database that contains a TEXT data type field. But I have a problem when I select that field in Oracle; I have the following error message: "ORA-00997: forbidden use of LONG data type".
Could anybody have a solution for me, to solve that problem?

It is very difficult to suggest anything without seeing your code. I don't even know if what you are seeing is the actual value or an error code. Often, negative numbers are indicative of error codes.
For instance -1 could mean that you have an invalid reference or path, etc...

After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type ...

After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type in any of the finder related editable fields/boxes. I can still type in my open applications fields.
This problem also happens when I happen to find a file that has been named, for instance, 2008jpg. When I add the period to have the file read correctly as 2008.jpg, a warning box appears asking - {*Are you sure you want to change the extention from ".jpeg" to ".jpg"?* If you make this change, your document may open in a different application.} Two radio buttons are available within this warning box that read - 1 - {Use .jpg}(it is not color coded, which means it must be selected manually. - 2 - {Keep .jpeg}(it is colored w/my Blue highlight color, which means it will be selected if the Enter Key is used.
The warning box does Not appear if I remove the period from a file and not again when i re-add the period to that same file.
After trying to make these types of edits to the name of any file, with any of the various extentions available for files in our digital world, I usually get an anomaly where myability to type in the Finder ceases to be a possibility.
I have found that I can Force Quit the Finder for a quick fix, but, I'm not sure that this Typing problem should have to be dealt with at all by this quick fix. Is this an issue with the Indexing in Spotlight, which seems to be giving many users problems?

I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?

G/L Account Long Text Field in Display

I want G/L Account long text field be displayed along with G/L account number in G/L Account line item display report (FBL3N)
I cheched the layout, the option of G/L account number is available but option of G/L account Long text is not available.

You must do some development for it.
You can add additional field to FBL*N reports with using BTE exit.
First of all, if you don't use BTE before, you must create a product on FIBF.
Call FIBF transaction -> Settings -> Products -> ...of a customer
Create a new line,
Product: ZFI
Text: BTE Products for FI Exit
Product active: tick checks from activation.
Then you must call SE11 for structure RFPOS.
You must use append structure function for this structure and you can define ZFI_RFPOS append structure
Define 4 fields.
Component: KUNNR - Component type: KUNNR
Component: NAMED - Component type: NAME1
Component: LIFNR - Component type: LINFR
Component: NAMEK - Component type: NAME1
Then save and active your RFPOS structure.
After that, you must do same step for structure RFPOSX.
Then go to SE37 and copy from SAMPLE_INTERFACE_00001650 to ZFI_INTERFACE_00001650 FM.
After copy action, you must uncomment this line on ZFI_INTERFACE_00001650 FM's source code. It's very important;
E_POSTAB = I_POSTAB.
Then you should add some ABAP code for getting customer & vendor details.
I give you some examples, you can use it. (Next message on this thread, please check)
Then save and active FM.
Call FIBF transaction again.
FIBF -> Settings -> Process Modules -> ...of a customer

How to insert data from file into long raw field using utl_file?

I try to insert binary data from a file (under AIX 4.3.3) into a LONG
RAW field (Oracle 8.1.6).
First, I retrieve the data from the file like this:

The GET_LINE statement crashes on Oracle Error ORA-6502: Numeric of
Value error: hex to raw conversion error.
What do I do wrong?
Do I use the right method to retrieve information from a file and put
it into a long raw field, should I try it another way?

Zarina,
To clarify your problem, you have a script node contaning your Matlab code. Are you then using the standard LV functions to load in your data from a file and pass it into the script node?

Formating long currency field

No Need of Function Moudule you can do it with ABAP code..
Here is the Example for this..
data: amount(15) type c value '200,000,000.000'.
while sy-subrc = 0.
replace ',' with space into amount.
endwhile.
condense amount no-gaps.
write:/ amount.
Change code according to your requirements for dots and space.

You are getting an error at line 5:

Problem viewing text in long text field

here is how I would do it:
1) convert the input (short text) table to string
2) apply this code to the string:
DATA: lv_text TYPE text40,
          lv_length TYPE i.
WHILE lv_string IS NOT INITIAL.
lv_length = 39.
lv_text = lv_string.
WHILE lv_text+lv_length(1) NE space AND lv_length GE 0.

Modifying the lengh of a long text field- Crystal Report version 2011

I'm having a problem with the long text field in my crystal report.
I'll desribe the problem:
We work with BW version 7.4 sp 5.
I created a BEX Report with an infobject of type Long Text (Long Text is XL).
I know the length of this field is 1,333 char.
When I run the Bex Report the field is displayed correctly (long text).
I then created a Crystal Report 2011 version 14.0.6.1036 RTM based on my BEX Query.
The problem is that the Crystal report brought this database long text field as a
String[70]. Thus I get only the first 70 characters of the field.
Can we modify the settings of the field to enlarge it to be 1,333 characters in
length?

Hi Jothi,
Short Text and Long Text are associated objects of a Characteristic from a BEx query.
The 'Short Text' will not turn to 'Long Text' by setting the 'Can Grow' option.
In Fact, both are completely different objects.

I can no longer type after typing a URL and autocomplete not finding a matching URL. How to fix that?

After I open Firefox I start typing the URL. After each letter I see autocomplete suggestions. Imagine I type "g", then "o" (google is shown as autocomplete), but then I enter "a". Since I have no pages that begin with "goa", autocomplete is hidden and the problem is, I can no longer type anything. All my key strokes are now ignored (backspace, enter... it dosen't matter). But I still see the cursor blinking after "goa".
I have discovered that Firefox must be focused on some other interface element (not in the address bar), because if I press the TAB key, the focus is again shifted to the address bar and I can continue typing. Sometimes I have to press TAB 2 or 3 times while entering an address to be able to write what I want. It looks like every time autocomplete is closed, the program focus leaves the address bar.
I've been having this problem for at least 4 or 5 versions of Firefox and it does not happen on every Firefox session. It can be solved by closing Firefox and opening it again. Pressing the TAB key has become kind of a reflex, so it's just annoying and I can work around it.
But why is this happening?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Unable to evaluate workflow rule - Value too long for field

Need help with a workflow error for a record update before the record is saved. There are 3 calculations that would be done in a particular order - all on number fields. Each time, I am overwriting existing values. The individual numbers could have up to 6 decimal spaces. When I try to update one or more fields that contain the calculation, I get an error message saying that the system is unable to evaluate the workflow rule - value too long for field (zNum6).
This same calculation is fine when a new record is entered and the calculation is done as a default field value.
Any ideas?

I actually had to use a ToChar function at the beginning of the calculation and #### to indicate the number of digits to make this work. Oracle Help Desk provided the answer - quickly.
