Looking for a software development company or expert programmer for plugin

I work for a company that hosts web software that many newspapers use to power their online websites. We are interested in working with an expert individual or firm in programming extensions or plugins for InDesign. The goal is to build a function within InDesign that gathers all of the newspaper articles from within an InDesign file and send them through the internet into our online system *from within InDesign*. In other words, we are not interested in a "save to xml" type of option... we are interested in an option that would be called "Send articles to website" which would scrape together all of the content, package it in a structured way, and upload it to a drop box of come kind hosted on our server. From that point, programmers at our company will write the server-side routines to detect the uploaded materials, parse through them, and populate the site.
Again, I need someone who's a proven InDesign software expert who can create a cross platform solution for our needs. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thank you,
Jon

  • WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDED CERTIFICATIONS FOR A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER?

HI FRIENDS COULD SOME ONE HELP ME OUT WITH THE LIST OF RECOMMENDED CERTIFICATION FOR A PROGRAMMER. TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF MY WORKING PLATFORM. I WORK IN C/C++ AS FRONTEND WITH UNIX AS BACKEND. I ALSO DEAL WITH UML AT TIMES. SO DO PLEASE HELP ME OUT TO SPOT THE EXACT CERTIFICATION WHICH WOULD HELP ME IN MY CARRIER.
    Edited by: user11087237 on 20 Apr, 2009 9:43 PM

You can get an OCP (Advanced PL/SQL) by completing 1z0-146. You have in practice to get PLSQL OCA first.
You can also get OCP via a forms route instead .... 1z0-141. What I am trying to say is Oracle has a number of products other than sql* Forms, and forms may be in decline, so if you are not already familiar with forms that may not be the best place to put efforts.
What I was trying to say that is possilbly that effot getting to know apex (application express) may be better than time spent trying to ge to grips with and certifiying in Forms. (Though as far as I am aware there is no apex certification).
i feel that you suggest me something other than oca /ocp certification. if i am right do please clear me out . and for your information i have worked in sql & plsql for quite a good time.In summary
I am suggesting you seriously consider Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate(OCA) and Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional (OCP).
However the case for studying for (Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional (OCP)) is perhaps less clear cut if you have not aleady got forms experience, and that for you effort may be better spent elsewhere, possilby even in non certified study (jdeveloper, application express, oracle designer ... )

    Hope that is less unambiguous.

  • Help Please: Looking to contact Software Development Team

I have been looking over the site, and I am struggling to locate a contact address for the development team.
The query is this: Without giving too much away, I have in mind what I believe to be a highly innovative software concept / marketing method to integrate with the existing format and content provided by iTunes.
Therefore, I am looking to arrange a pitch for this idea.
Probably a long shot on the forums, but I'm guessing there has to be a certain amount of company involvement in the moderation thereof.
If anyone is able to provide contact details to help facilitate this, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks,

  • Java for Instructional software?

    Hi,
I wanted to know if Java can be used for instructional software development. The age group targeted is 4-10yrs. By that, I would want rich multimedia content (video, audio and GOOD graphics). I saw the Java showcase - and saw that the graphics there are generated on the fly. What kind of tools will be needed is I have to use Java for this? Is there some kind of API?
    Thanks!!

You can start programming Java and do all the things you are talking about with one download. If you go to the J2SE link in the upper left of this page, it will bring you to another page with Information On Specific Versions on the right side. You should probably stick with 1.4.1 because 1.4.2 is beta. You want to download the SDK for your platform.
Now comes the hard part... You have to learn to program Java. There are Tutorials on the left side of the page. You should probably start with The Java Tutorial. Once you get past your first few programs, you might want to get an IDE. Sun Studio is available free. It will help you somewhat with the syntax and libraries. You should also learn how to search this site for info (Advance Search at the top of the page) and look up the API documentation (See APIs on the left of the page)

  • Making free software development profitable

OK, this maybe rather off the topic of GNU/Linux but bear with me
Free software has come a long way and all thanks to generous contributions of numerous souls who have put in their most valuable asset, time, to develop a huge body of software we can all enjoy.
Now a good number of free software developers work for commercial companies and get paid to do what they do. That is cool too. In fact that is great! If one could live off money earned by developing free software ... I mean that is fantastic. Financially benefiting in addition to helping the community is certainly better than one or the other alone. But this kind of job is rare.
What if more (or every) free software developer could be financially compensated for their contributions? I'm sure there is a good amount of pessimism about the idea of expecting money for something that can otherwise be obtained for free. And that's justified, except there is always the assumption that the developer makes something and then asks for money. That is the trend (and perhaps has been). I'm referring to donations. There is always the software before the donation button. There are two issues with donations:
    1. you have to have something first before getting paid for it (which provides little to no motivation for those able to contribute but whom don't have time due to their commitments to their paying jobs)
    2. donations are not directed at anything specific, you don't know if the $5 you sent to that great girl/guy is going to his project A or B (which provides little motivation for users to pay because of uncertainty)
Now a model like that of kickstarter.com would solve less than half of the issues here. I personally think that kickstarter like services are geared towards creative projects, projects for which there is not necessarily a need at first. In free software communities however, it's very prevalent for users to be looking for something they need but not quite finding it. It could be a feature they need, a bug that needs fixing. Do you see where I'm going with this? Yep. Issue trackers with a twist!
A service which allows users to submit bugs/requests/ideas and offer money to whoever can get it done. But (a big but), the end result of the software has to be free software (otherwise you got yourself a rentacoder kind of service). A simple (or complicated if necessary) reputation based system would create trust in developers not to steal money and in users to pay what they pledged. This sounds like fundraising and that's exactly what it is. The difference is: it's focused and streamlined. You know who/what/why you're paying.
What's the incentive for the user to pay? Well they *need* something that doesn't exist. They can file a bug report and hope someone will take notice. Or they can get attention by offering to pay for what they need. From view point of some, this kind of transactional environment goes against the values of free software. It may seem unfair for those who can't afford (or want) to pay as much to get equal attention. This and other kind of issues are what I like to discuss with you.
I believe a well thought implementation of such system can change face of free software and accelerate its development.
    Thoughts?

    karol wrote:http://www.fossfactory.org/
This is interesting. I hadn't come across these guys before, either because they have poor SEO or I am incompetent in searching
Having looked at some of the projects, it seems to be more or less active (not sure if they're thriving). I also had a read of their process and FAQ. What I have in mind seems to differ quite significantly with what those guys are doing in regards to the funding and the general process. They're doing it in a collaborative manner using an organic approach of allowing change to requirements and funding along the way. I'm thinking of the same type of collaboration in planning and design stages, but with a more stable state past the funding stage. In particular, I think kickstarter.com method of goal based time limited fundraising to be more successful in attracting developers to work on a project. I would describe the process I have in mind as follows:
    - a user/developer submits a project idea (could be as big as an entire app or as small as a bug fix)
    - other users can discuss the project, or create sub-projects and discuss those
    - users also indicate on each project how much they're willing to contribute financially (without commitment)
    - developers can submit proposals on any (sub) project
    - proposals must have clearly indicated specs and deliverables as well as a funding goal and deadline
    - proposals can be discussed just like project ideas and developers amend the specs as necessary to reflect the discussions
    - developer decides it is time to finalize and start fund raising
    - at this point the specs are frozen and a time limited fund raising window is open for users to "pledge" (kickstarter's term)
    - if the funding goal set by developer is met, all the funds are transferred from users' accounts to the developer's account, otherwise no one's charged
    - developer starts to work on the project, checking in regularly to post status updates
    - a reputation system awards or takes away reputation points from developers based on their ability to meet deadlines, deliver what they promised, etc.
    - developers can be permanently banned (based on their billing details) from the site if they simply don't get any work done or otherwise violate a term
    - developers are limited on how much funding goal they can set based on their reputation (this helps building trust)

  • Looking for Mac Software to run a DJ Company.

I need some assistance for a software package that will allow me to book gigs for my DJ company.
    The list is long:
    - create a contract on my Mac (and would be a + if you could do all of the things on an iPhone)
    - without retyping all the customers information again print an envelope and a preset cover letter, and request sheet.
    - have field for received deposit or paid in full
    - ability to change terms and conditions
    - generate mass email
    - generate postal mailings to send Anniversary or Birthday cards to clients easily and quickly
    - once you send out that mailing, have a check box to remove customer from mailing list (IE they moved and mail was returned so you don't waste postage on your next mailing)
    - ability to input how many brides maids and groomsmen are in the party and it adjusts the bridal intro sheet. Also has space for songs to be played duringing intros, blessing, toast, garter, bouquet etc.
    - Has web enabled version so clients can see what dates are available and what dates are booked
My biggest problem is, when I book 1 job, I need to copy and paste info from one form to another. I'm looking to automate most of that process. I'd also like to have the ability when potential client calls my iPhone, I can check the date, book the job so the client sees their date is reserved on the web site, generate a contract on iPhone and email to the customer to book on the spot.
I can't find any entertainment booking software for the Mac, so I'll be happy with whatever I find. If you can write the application in FileMaker or some other means I'm all ears.

    Hi djgeorge,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
To be frankly honest I think your going to have trouble.
Let's go through it piece by piece
You could use MS Word or Pages to create documentation etc, those programs have the ability to work with templates on a large scale.
You can find many mass emailer programs, take your pick.
I don't know how you would geterate postal mailings for birthdays etc, a bit of scripting and work with iCal possibly?
FileMaker Pro is very useful for databasing information and for creating automated responses etc. I'm fairly sure you can manage online content as well.
That's the best I currently have.
    I will look around though.
    Kind Regards,
    Peter.
There is some software such as FileMaker Pro which is good generating email etc en mass.
You could probably use AppleScript or Automator and iCal to send

  • Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?

    Hi all
My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?

You might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method.
