Losing metadata when adding watermark

I have a .jpg file that was created in Photoshop. If I import it into Acrobat and save it out, the metadata stays. If I add a watermark to this file, it erases the metadata. Any ideas on why? I am using Acrobat XI Pro on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.

Hi Michael ,
It would be great if you could share the file on [email protected] so that we check at our end how and what exactly is happening.

  • How to Specify Metadata When Adding Content Using iTunes U Web Service?

    I've been developing Java applications using iTunes U Web service and uploaded content to iTunes U site using iTunes U Web service without problem. Now I want to add metadata fields (name, artist name, album name, etc.) for the tracks I uploaded. It seems to me that "AddTrack" will do. So I tested it but it neither adds a track under the specified group nor updates metadata fields for an existing track. It turned out "MergeTrack" actually updates metadata fields for an existing track. So is there any way to specify metadata at the time of adding content using iTunes U Web service? And what exactly does AddTrack do? This is all about contents hosted by iTunes U site and no RSS is involved.
    I'm referring to the "AddTrack" method in iTunes U Web service:
    http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc/iTunesUAdministrationGuide/iTunesUWebServices/c hapter18_section_21.html#//appleref/doc/uid/AdminGuide-CH13-SW26

    Thanks for all the replies. My question is whether there is any way to specify metadata WHEN adding content using iTunes U Web service. Specifying metadata AFTER adding content can be achieved by MergeTrack (weird naming) and it does work.
    As for setting track level meta-data in the media file and then upload it, there're several reasons against that, among which are:
    1. Some track metadata are context-dependent. A video about buildings on Michigan Ave in Chicago can be track #2 in a history course and described as "historic view of the Magnificent Mile", but the same media can also be track #5 in a landscape design course and described as something like "contemporary architecture". Setting these metadata in the media file itself is not the preferred way to do it since it implies maintaining a version of the same media for any course/group it gets uploaded to.
    2. Setting metadata in a location separate from the media file helps track the metadata change and search for media without digging into the media itself.
    3. If MergeTrack "updates" metadata, there got to be some other method that "creates" metadata - that's what a well-designed API should look like. And setting metadata in the media file is not an equivalent to a "create metadata" method call. In rickwolf's term, that implicit AddTrack should actually be made explicit so the party uploading content can explicitly specify metadata instead of having iTunes U extract metadata from the media.
    It is still not clear what "AddTrack" does exactly, maybe rickwolf is right - it's only relevant to tracks created through RSS.
    So it seems to me there is no other way to specify metadata WHEN adding content using iTunes U Web service than setting metadata in the media file. To me it is more like a design flaw.

  • Losing Metadata when extracting image from stack

    Hi,
    I have a series of 70 images that I edited in colour and B/W. They were stacked with the original RAW file in stacks of 3. I decided to extract the B/W versions to collect them in a separate folder. Now I discovered that from most B/W images the IPTC data is gone (and I had extensive captions and keyword lists). Only the info I filled in when importing the files from the camera remains. The IPTC of the other images in the stacks (RAW and a colour TIFFs) are in some cases gone too. So in more than 50% of the cases I have lost all added data in all three images from each stack.
    Has anyone had similar problems? Is there any way to recover the data of the images where all data is gone?
    In some stacks at least one of the images still has the data. So I can copy that again.
    Thanks,
    Ronald

    I don't have a file to test with mdls but I usually use ExifTool for metadata work.  Here is a script I wrote a while ago that will display all of the metadata contained in the file.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.3 crash when adding watermark

    Hi All, my acrobat crash when I add watermark.  I am running Window 7 and have check the compatibility box thinking this will resolve the issue.
    Any solution to this issue?

    Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 (CS5) is doing the same thing on my Windows XP SP3 with 3.5 GB of ram and 206 GB of my brand new 300 GB hard drive free.
    It starting doing this at the end of last year before my hard drive died.  Then after rebuilding the entire system on this new drive it worked fine, until I downloaded all the updates and now it is broken again.  Anytime I open more than one PDF, Acrobat crashes.  I send the error report every time.

  • Losing JToolTips when adding to JScrollPane

    I'm using a large ImageIcon as a JLabel in a JFrame, with other small JLabels over top of it. I've added tool tips to the smaller jlabels, and everything looks ok, and I get the jtooltips to fire normally. The problem is that the image is too large for the screen, so I need to be able to scroll it.
    public class GelFrame extends JFrame {
        public GelFrame(.......) {
          // add main gel image
          JLabel GEL = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(image));
          GEL.setBounds(0,0,width,height);
          getContentPane().add(GEL);
          // add the smaller JLabels here
          ArrayList spot = new ArrayList();
          for(int i=0; i<passedArrayList.size(); i++) {
            spot = (ArrayList)passedArrayList.get(i);
            System.out.println("protein: "+(String)spot.get(0));
            int x = ((Integer)spot.get(1)).intValue();
            int y = ((Integer)spot.get(2)).intValue();
            JLabel label = new JLabel();
            label.setBackground(new Color(000,255,000));
            // set the bounds of the new label
            label.setBounds(x+1, y+1, 3,3);
            System.out.println("** creating label with bounds: "+x+", "+y+", 3, 3");
            // add the tool tip text to the jlabel
            label.setToolTipText((String)spot.get(0));
            // add to the JFrame
            getContentPane().add(label);
    }When I add this JFrame to a JScrollPane, I get the proper scrolling, but I lose the jtooltips.

    koleber -
    Thanks for the reply!
    I made the suggested changes, and I'm still not able to see the jtooltips. Is there something about the viewport that gets in the way, or covers up the JPanel? Should it matter when I add the tooltip'd jlabels to the JPanel?

  • Moving from Bridge to Lightroom, when adding existing files on hard drive, will metadata transfer? Should I choose embed sidecar in file handling or will it automatically happen if I choose standard?

    Moving from Bridge to Lightroom. Will metadata in existing files be recognized by Lightroom, and should I select embed+sidecar when adding files to library for the first time.

    Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.
    CHRIS - you are exactly right about my FUTURE workflow. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to best handle images already processed. My import should be OK based on the way I have duplicates in separate directories, BUT I'm wondering how to avoid seeing all of these duplicates in LR when I search by keyword, etc.? I guess I can somehow flag the RAW files and only get them in my results.
    One question though - Stacks, etc. sounds great for the LR processed images. But what about variations based on processing in Photoshop after the LR Develop stage? I guess in this case I will just have to keep duplicate images if I have multiple versions from my PS work?
    ISAAC - Thanks for clarifying that LR will recognize my XMP files from Bridge. What about the opposite direction . . . if I edit something in LR and capture this via XMP, it won't prohibit Bridge from recognizing XMP info if I access a file via Bridge, will it?
    ALSO - Do you know where I can find info about tracking via XMP vs. the central database? You mentioned a couple of valid points, but I'm not sure I have a full handle on the pros/cons of these options.
    Thanks!

  • Prevent all page color from becoming opaque when adding a watermark with opacity

    It looks like when I create a watermark AND change the opacity to something low the entire PDF becomes slightly opaque and colors are not that vivid (even if the actual text watermark is very small in the corner).
    The only way I noticed fixes this problem is if I check the option to "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes".
    See difference here:
    -- Normal - http://screencast.com/t/5bCfSP5Fba
    --Opaque - http://screencast.com/t/03qXJhR1ydh
    --This is the difference in black when zooming in: http://screencast.com/t/PPsMJiLiS
    Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is there a way to fix it without checking "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes"?
    Thanks!

    ALMOOOST!
    It did work but I don't understand why it worked on some pages and not on others. So when using this method, its worked completely fine when the watermark is applied to visible page. However, when the watermark is applied only to printed pages, some of those pages lose the water mark completely on print during the flatten/change blend space. I cant tell whats special about those pages that it works that way.
    Maybe it will be just easier to use the "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes" option when adding the watermark and then everything looks evenly perfect(just need to manually center the watermark position for each file). Curiously though, any idea what could be the correlation between the "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes" and the opacity of page when adding an watermark?

  • Embed fonts when adding a watermark

    Acrobat 8.1:
    Please help me embed a font when adding a watermark. I'm using the addwatermarkastext() method, using C#:
    args = new System.Object[] { text, 1, fontName, size, jsoColor, -1, -1, true, true, true, horizontalAlign, verticalAlign, horizontalValue, verticalValue, false, 1.0, false, watermarkRotation, 1.0 };
    jso.GetType().InvokeMember("addWatermarkFromText", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Default | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, jso, args);
    This works great, but I need to embed the font into the PDF. I'm using a barcode font that must be embedded, since the downstream viewer is not acrobat reader (and the user may not have the barcode font installed) and has a hard time with non-standard fonts. We are using a barcode font with an free license, so licensing won't be an issue.
    When I add a watermark manually through the Acrobat pro interface, Acrobat DOES embed the font. I can't rely on users to enter the information accurately, so I must have an automated solution.
    Is there a setting on Addwatermarkfromtext that I'm missing, or is there another way to embed just that one font? I don't want to embed all fonts in the document, just the barcode font.
    I've tried adding a dummy watermark with text that is not visible (I saw somewhere online that someone recommended this approach). It did not work..

    addWatermarkAsText() will always embed the font, provided that the font is licensed for embedding. have you verified that the font vendor has granted you those rights? I know you said it's "free", but perhaps it's not embeddable. You can easily check that using Distiller or the Microsoft Font Panel.
    If you were to upgrade to Acrobat 9, then there is an EmbedFont function you use to embed just that font after the fact - though, again, it shoudl be embedded as is.

  • Not able to see Metadata fields when adding the fields to the rule in UCM

    Not able to see Metadata fields when adding the fields to the rule even after creating them in information fields of configuration manager.It is happening for few fields only.We are using 10.1.3 version of UCM.Kindly provide a solution if any.

    Dhilipan,
    I am trying to setup AES at the current Customer.
    You are right on LR_JP to be linked to customs code list instead of ACE and I do achieve that if I were to maintain the Custom code list by maintaining the assignment for EAR in a separate test.
    I was infact trying to follow the link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/30c7015e-c191-2d10-71b9-95907dc8edd1?overridelayout=t…
    On this document, if you look at page# 14 thru 17, it has the steps I described in my original note with customs code still appearing in the drop down for 'EXCPT' for EAR.
    Nevertheless, I wanted to default Type = C50 when the license type for the line on the Customs declaration is 'EXCPT' but if you see the very last screen-shot below, even though the license type configuration has default value as 'C50' it did not get pulled into the line item Documents tab when I tried to pick the category as 'CUII'.
    Let me know your thoughts on defaulting the data into Customs declaration for AES filing.
    What I want to achieve is the following:
    When License type is 'EXCPT', system should default the type as 'C50'
    Should put the License type 'EXCPT' into the number field
    Should put the actual License# 'ENC' into the Supplement field
    Should put the ECCN # '5A002' into the Details field
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

  • Require entry of metadata when creating a folder in a document library

    Sharepoint Foundation 2010 -
    While users are required to enter metadata when uploading a document, it would be a tremendous help if they were required to enter metadata when creating a folder inside a document library.
    Is there a way to force entry of metadata when creating a folder? And if this is possible, can I create different metadata requirements for documents uploaded inside a folder?
    Thanks.

    Yes, you will need to create a Content Types that inherits the Folder Content Type, and then assign your new Content Type to your library. The following blog post explains how to do this (it was written for 2007 but same applies for 2010),
    http://www.sharepoint-guru.com/2007/06/adding-metadata-to-folder.html
    You can create additional Content Types to reflect the different types of files, each with their own set of metadata columns and requirements.

  • Bridge has error when adding additional keywords to InDesign snippet IDMS files

    I have recently created a whole library of InDesign Snippets. I opened Bridge to add keywords to these files. I can add the first keyword with no problem, but when I try to add a second keyword, I get this error: "There was an error writing metadata to <filename.idms>"
    Some interesting observations:
    I use a list of keywords and subkeywords in Bridge so all I have to do is check the corresponding keyword checkbox. With every IDMS file, I can check only *ONE* keyword. I will get an error when I attempt to check a second keyword.
    If I re-export the IDMS from InDesign, it will overwrite the metadata, and I am once again allowed to add one checkbox before getting the error.
    If I take a clean IDMS file (no keyword metadata already added), I can Rt+Click on the IDMS icon in Bridge and pull up File Info and under the Keywords section, I can type in multiple keywords separated by commas and save. This IDMS file will then show checked boxes next to all of the keywords I had manually added. At this point, if I try to add more keywords (either by clicking the checkbox or by going to Rt+Click->File Info), I will get the "There was an error writing metadata to <filename.idms>" error.
    I've seen other posts about image files having an issue not allowing any metadata to be written at all... this problem is slightly different in that I do not have any problem adding that first keyword. But something is happening after the metadata is saved with that first keyword that does not allow me to add additional keywords.
    Thanks for anyone and everyone's help on this most perplexing problem.

    Does iTunes sync metadata when syncing photos to an iPad/iPhone? I am using Aperture v3 as my photo library.

    This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

  • Should Parent objects be updated when adding a child?

    Hi,
    I have 2 objects in a one to many relationship, a parent with a collection
    of child objects.
    My parent object is being updated when I add child objects to it -
    although nothing on the parent object has changed (except maybe the

    Is this meant to happen - as part of the optimistic locking? Does it try
    and lock the owner of the collection when a new member is added?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    We are planning a metadata extension to permit writing to a collection
    without changing optimistic lock values for the owning class.
    I don't have a good feel for the time frame of the feature yet.
