Lost audio files

I have saved a song into another hard drive and hit save while I was working. Now when I open the project all the audio files are blank but the MIDI ones are there. I hit get info and the audio files were listed but I can't find them.
Anyone have any idea where they might be hiding? I have checked all the places I know. I am not a real technical person so have mercy!
Thank you,
cffink

So you have already used Spotlight to search for them? In the Bin, is there an exclamation mark behind those "lost files"? Have you checked the Folder in which the Project is saved? Did you save the project with option "Include Assets" on?

  • Lost audio files after saving.

I lost my audio files after saving in Logic X and now my project file has the extension .logicx on it and my audio files are nowhere to be seen. I made some changes to the project, moved the file to another folder, then they asked if I wanted to replace the other file with the new and I said yes not thinking that it would matter. Is there any way that my audio files are still out there somewhere? And no I don't have time machine hooked up.
    Thanks.

if you replaced that file.. then you have lost it's contents as they have all been replaced with the one you copied over... and as you have no backups you cannot, as they say.. un-scramble the egg...
Finally start making backups as soon as possible...

  • Lost audio files after sync but storage space unchanged

I had 4GB of audio files in my iphone which was erased after syncing. But my memory is unchanged. So I can't sync and add it on my phone again because it says I don't have any space. Is there any way I can reset the phone and just start over.

  • Lost audio file embedded in project

OK, weird... I was playing around with adding sound to my slideshow. It was about a month ago, and I forgot what I did exactly. Sigh. Anyway, now music begins to play when I start playing the presentation. I can't find the sound file. Is there some way to a) find the sound file and b) delete it. Or at least disable it? I tried "saving as" with advanced options, but the "copy sound file with project" was greyed out. Sure would appreciate knowing how to get outta this. Thanks!

It seems like you have your sound file set as a "soundtrack" for the entire presentation, rather than associated with a specific slide.
Click on the Document (far left) Icon in the Inspector, open the Audio submenu, and you probably will find your "missing" audio file in the Soundtrack window. Delete it from there and all should be well again.

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • EXS24 has lost many audio files

I downloaded Logic from the App store.  There are many many patches in the EXS24 instrument that have lost their audio files. How can I get ALL these audio files back so ALL patches work.

This is happening to me too.  I have re-installed, I have re-indexed, and have gone through all the files manually and added .aif to all the files without an extention (this helped with a lot of sounds), and still, 2 of the drum kits work and none of the others.  Very frustrating.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you have a SATA controlled hard drive. Apparently, there's some kind of bug with SATA disks and Vista and Quicktime/itunes video...and possibly Nvidia is involved as well.
The workaround is sticking the video on a flash drive in order to play it (because that avoids the SATA controller and thus bypasses the issue). It's a crappy workaround, IMO...and I'm not spending another cent on iTunes videos until the issue is actually fixed.

  • ITunes lost all the names of my audio files

I can appreciate that there are some people who need to have organisation forced upon them because they are incapable or too lazy to do it for themselves. I personally hate apps which take control of my computer or file system and put things where I can't find them.
I have always had my iTunes prefs set to manually manage my audio files. I record messages from our Church services to put on the internet for people to listen to who are unfortunate enough not to be able to attend the service, for whatever reason. Each recording has a different speaker and message heading, which I manually type onto each file after I have converted it from AIFF to MP3. The files are all called 01 Track 01 in their default state from our CD recording equipment.
I had over 1 year's worth of speakers in a folder with, on ocassions, 2 - 3 speakers per week. On one particular day last week, I was doing something on my computer (can't remember what now) but a message appeared which said something along the lines of - 'can't complete your request because your iTunes library is not organised, do you wish to do that now?' and without thinking I pressed the ok button and the task completed.
It was not until the next Sunday when I went into the folder to retrieve the file called 01 Track 01 from amongst all the other named files, that I found over 100 files all with the titles 01 Track 01 1, 01 Track 01 2...3, etc etc. - so much for Apple's brilliant organisation, now I will have to go into each one individually and try to recognise each speaker's voice and wait until he announces his reading before I can name the files to something I will recognise in the future.
iTunes asked if I wanted to 'organise' my files - not rename them, I am so angry about this and I'm guessing there isn't an easy way to fix this - OK, I use Time Machine to backup my discs - but there is 100's of MBs of data to transfer over when it is only the names I need - I KNOW, somebody is going to tell me that it would surely still be quicker to do this than retype all the names - I WILL do this if there is no other option, but I'm hoping that Apple or somebody will be anble to suggest a quick way for me to get all the names back onto the right files.
    Any suggestions anybody?
    Thanks

  • I'm lost... cannot import audio file....

Darn I HOPE someone will be good enough to tell me what the heck i'm doing wrong!!!
I have created an audio file from a recorder that crerates MP3 files. so I've uploaded the file from the recorder to my computer and placed them on my desktop.
When I click on them they open in Itunes (as they should)... But when I try to drag them into Garage Band. I get a very short import window and then nothing. They do not show up in the time line or in a new track.
    What am I doing wrong?
As a side note... I know the files have voice on them as I can play them in ITunes....
    Please can someone HELP!!!

The files probably have the extension in uppercase - .MP3. Change them in the Finder to lowercase - .mp3 - and try again.

  • Lost garage band audio files

i recorded a very important gig last night, and i was trying to arrange the audio into sections, and i cut a few pieces out, knowing i could just undo and get them back. unfortunately, i saved my piece, with those audio files cut out, and now there gone. is there any way possible i can get that audio back?

if you only removed parts of a region, you can just drag the edges back. any region you completely removed, and then saved, is gone.

  • My Iphone won't sync my CD audio files, after having them on my Iphone for years I updated the other day and they all dissapeared, all that's left is songs bought from Itunes.

I've had an Iphone 4 and I have been listening to hundreds of songs no problem for the past year and a half I've owned it. The other day I decided to sync my Iphone to my laptop to get two songs from a CD. After doing this process and approaching it like I usually would (without causing any problems) I checked my Iphone to see if the two songs had downloaded after the sync. I discovered that my Iphone had lost every audio file that was not bought from the Itunes store leaving me with a sliver of songs to listen to. I immediatly checked my laptop (a Windows device) to see if my music was still there, thankfully it's all on my laptop and the songs play without a problem. So I attempted to sync the songs to my iphone several times, but the CD songs would simply not sync (When syncing your Iphone it consists of 5 steps, the progress bar skips steps 3-4, those are the steps when your music syncs). I'm not an idiot, I checked the small details (checking all albums and songs I wanted and checking the 'entire music library' option) as well I checked the big details (making sure my phone and Itunes were up to date, changing the USB to Iphone wire with another just like it). After a couple of hours of tinkering with different ways to sync I was stumped so I decided to restore my Iphone to factory settings. After doing that and setting up my Iphone newly I still could not download those CD files from Itunes to my Iphone. I called apple support and they recommended that I uninstall Itunes and re-install it. Again no success, all my music is still on my laptop working fine, but I can't seem to sync my CD songs from itunes to my Iphone. If anybody has any info please help. -A college student who needs something to listen to everyday on the hour long bus

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

Please let me know how things are going.

  • "Cannot Find Audio File", Garageband

    Mac OS X version 10.6.8
    GarageBand 08-Version 4.1.2 ·(248.7)
This is a issue which goes back to 2005 on some forums, and in my case, has just occured. There seems to be thousands of people effected.  After 3 years of using GarageBand for language studies, I'm now afraid to open any file with this software. Some 3 years work potentially lost.
Please don't suggest I upgrade my software. This problem occurs in all versions of Garageband and OSX. I was thinking of buying a new MacPro but so far I could not risk it with this problem unresolved.
When I try to open a file, which up to recently functioned perfectly, I get a message "Audio File Not Found...Skip or Search". Regardless of which option I chose, a file opens but with no audio content.
Below are extracts from some of the solutions I've come accross on Forums.None have worked for me, despite some promising suggestions.
For instance I don't have "Working Copies" file on my computer.
Any comments from Apple would be appreciated.
    Extracts from some previous Contributions
    1. Quit GarageBand.
    2. Goto /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Working Copies
    3. Delete the Guitar Lesson 2_Chords - G, C
    4. Start GarageBand up and enjoy Lesson 2.
If i had to guess i would say it looks like there is a cache created when you start a lesson and it must be easily corrupted.
It may have happened to me by having a download interrupted and I tried to run the Lesson anyway. Or perhaps trying to run the lesson mid download, i believe i may have tried that too in my impatience waiting for the Lesson. Either of those scenarios i could envision creating a corrupt "working copy."
You went to the Library file path that is in your user folder. You must go to Macintosh HD and go to the main Library folder and follow the path Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Garageband/Learn to Play. Then you can delete the lessons you don't want.

Re: garageband saying "audio file not found"

Hm. Saving the project might have actually killed your recording. The only way to get back to your audio clips is: locate your project in the finder, ctrl-click it, select "Show Package Content", and look into the Media folder. If the folder is empty, I'm afraid the recordings are gone for good.

    Edi,
there is something completely wrong. You should see the following options:
Does your song project show with the Guitar icon and the filename extension "band"?
And does it say "Kind: GarageBand project", when you select the package in the Finder?

  • Garage Band Claims Audio Files Are In 8-Bit Format And Unusable.

I've used garageband to make my podcasts for about a year now, with no problems.
Sometime in March, though, there were two changes to my setup and I started noticing big problems.
The first change was the upgrade to 6.0.5 of garageband, which happened in early march. The second was that my harddrive was full, so i started saving my garageband files to an external hard drive.
The issue I'm experiencing is that when I load up a saved GB files (from the External HD), it will give weird errors, like, "The File Type Is Not Supported," and "One Or Multiple Audio Files Changed In Length," and "Garageband found 1 audio file in 8-bit format - the file is unsupported and cannot be played back."
When the error messages stop appearing, large segments of my podcast are missing, or the segments will be blank with no audio.
Generally, if I get my entire podcast done in one go without saving/reloading it, this is not a problem.
I've lost hours of work with this bug.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks.

  • Completely Lost Audio to PP Glitch. Tight Deadline. Urgent

Right in the middle of an edit the sound dropped out completely. Well no big deal, this happens sometimes in PP. I restarted the App but it was still the same. On all my sequences what's even more odd is that all the waveforms were gone but the original files were still being referenced and the audio would play fine in the source monitor just not the timeline. I then opened an autosave to find that the waveforms returned but still no audio on the timeline (no audio meters either). If I match framed a clip then performed an insert edit the sound for that clip would play again. Sounds like a fix. Wrong if I close the project and reopen then those files that are new on the timeline are muted also. Somehow every sequence is this way? Even in the autosaves?
    TROUBLESHOOTING:
I've tried changing my audio hardware to 4 different sources.
    Rebooted machine.
Imported the project into a completely fresh project with no results.
Exported an XML and imported into a fresh project SOL.
    Reset PP preferences.
    Updated from 7.1 to 7.2.1 - NOPE
And for the big finale. Did a full reinstall.
This worked!!! For a day. Until this morning. Now I'm right back where I started except I've done a lot more work. All sequences have no audio meters again.
One more test: I created a completely new project and imported just a sequence from the original project. That sequence came in and all the clips with it have audio stripped. No waveforms present. This is really bizarre. If I bring one of the original clips in from the finder and put it on the timeline there is audio until I save and reopen then that one clip does the exact same thing. If I open any other project besides this one the audio plays.
Can someone please give me insight into what's going on. BTW no tracks are muted manually this happened right in the middle of an edit and somehow effects all autosaved versions of this project. Any help is much appreciated since there is no way I can redo this in another edit package with the time I have left.

    Hi Reuben,
Thanx for starting this thread and giving this major problem a serious consideration. And thanx to Kevin for coming up with a solution.
Last week we here in Copenhagen had exact same problem on two out of our three different editing rooms - all with different specs. (All running Premiere 7.2.1 on OS X 10.8.5 and 10.9.2 has the sound problem but OS X 10.7.5 hasn't) No updates has been done while working on the projects.
We also use Plural Eyes and solved it first with a lot of match framing, but it became worse and worse so we are very happy with the suggested workaround via AfterEffects.
It takes 5-10 minutes to do the workaround - But the audio keyframes is gone from the timeline.
The keyframes are intact under the volume Level bar in the effects control panel so that is fine.
But what is not so good, is that I lost all the audio effects like compressor and limiter, so I will have to make the soundmix again if the client has any changes.
My theory is that the whole project becomes twisted over time when more and more sequences is created and more and more renders are done. Don't no why. Just guessing that the number of renderfiles is causing the confussion.
Because my first sequence which I didn't touch for weeks now also lost the link to the audio files.
I tried to make all sound offline and reconnect - didn't help. I also tried to delete the Media Cache files - didn't help.
I doubt that Plural Eyes is the cause of problems, because the music files that I use is also missing waveforms now and hence also no sound there.
Luckily I exported a final sound mix but I have to import the final sound mix again each time the project has been closed and started again.
I now vaguely remembers that I tried to do some sound adjustments on one clip in Adobe Audition and the problems with missing sound began after that.
Hmm - not sure. How about you Reuben? Do you use Audition?
And I didn't quite understand - do you now use Plural Eyes in After Affects or do you make the import and export workaround with After Effects after you synced the audio in Premiere?
Does Adobe have any idea on when this bug is fixed? Are we talking weeks or months?
    Kind Regards
    Søren Ottosen

  • Overview for audio files not showing up in project.

I just got a new mac, transferred everything over, and everything is working great except...
I have lost the overviews of all of my wav files for one song.
    please help ^_^

"Does it display overviews of newly added audio files in the arrange?"
    no it does not
"If not you would have to export tracks to audio files and import them into a new project file."
    that would stink...
any other ideas, i really don't want to have to export all of those tracks, and then add the 40 or so plugins back in
also, bouncing over and over can create problems, so i prefer to only bounce once (final)
