Lost keyboard shortcuts on InDesign

All the keyboard shortcuts have disappeared from InDesign. How do I get them back? They still work on all other creative suite programs.

Everytime I go to edit> keyboard shortcuts on indesign cs5, my cursor starts spinning...and spinning... and spinning....never stops and I just have to kill it through task manager!

That sounds like a conflict of some sort with a plugin or other software running on all the computers. Mac or PC? Any non-Adobe plugins, including a font auto-activation plugin from a font manager?

  • Lost keyboard shortcuts

I recently installed Snow Leopard and have lost the keyboard shortcuts in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (CS5).
I tried adding them in System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts, but it says I can't add them.
I had them before I updated to Snow Leopard and other computers in our office running the same OS and apps have them.
Any idea how to bring them back??
    Thanks! Rick B

  • How do I change the quit indesign keyboard shortcut? (indesign CC, mac)

Now this seems like it should be a simple task, right? Head up to the edit menu and click on keyboard shortcuts, find the quit app shortcut and change it to what I need. Why bother changing it you ask? Well for some reason out of the blue, my indesign quits everytime I try to select all (cmd+a) and completely ignores the usual cmd+q shortcut despite it saying in the top menu that that is what the shortcut is set to. So after quitting indesign several times thinking it was crashing I then realised I was closing the app myself but through a keyboard shortcut that I never set up so I need to change it back. But here's the thing, I cant find the quit indesign shortcut setting anywhere in indesign CC. As it was no where to be found I thought perhaps I could rectify this by restoring my inDesign default settings... Nope, no good. So I need some help.
    Thanks in advance.

I've never even heard of a problem like this.
The only thing I can think of is that the current shortcut that closes indesign for you is somehow set in the System Preferences for closing a program.
But I don't know why "Exit" isn't in your Keyboard Shortcut sets?
Think you might need a clean install.

  • Lost keyboard shortcut for render

In the last two Premire Elements 10 projects I have started, the keyboard shortcut for rendering (return) is no longer operational.  In the Keyboard Customization menu, this choice is grayed out and I can't select it.
Any shortcuts for fixing this?  Do I have to re-install the program?  My Premire came in a package with Photoshop, and I suspect I will have to re-install Photoshop also, which I would like to avoid -seems to be asking for trouble!
    Thank you
Also, the Render command does not work even when I choose it from the drop down menu.  And I have a Mac running OS 10.

Is the light gray Work Area Bar along the top of the timeline over your entire project? Only clips under the Work Area Bar will be rendered.
Can you post a screen capture of your timeline to this forum?

  • No keyboard shortcuts in InDesign CS4

the keyboard shortcuts doesn't shown in any menu.
the "edit>keyboard shortcuts" has no available set, or even not creating new set.
in othyer apps (PS, Illustaror, flash) it's fine.
they are not working obviously, it's not only visual matter.
does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It sounds like the reinstall is also damaged.
I'd try again after running the cleaner tool: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3
Make sure you are logged in with an adminsitrator account, and turn off you Anti-virus and Malware scanners. You may even want to go as far as a "clean boot" for the installation. See How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

  • Keyboard Shortcuts in Organizer

PSE 8 seems to have lost keyboard shortcuts compared to older versions.   Ctrl-1 used to rate the selected photo with 1 Star, Ctrl-2 with 2 Stars, etc.   That is  now missing and missed.
Also, there does not seem to be any keyboard shortcut  to "Hide" a file.   Using the RMB Menu is seems clumsy sometimes since (unlike older Organizer) one has to go through a submenu (two gestures) to hide a file.    True, it is easier with multi-select, but that has its own difficulties (I keep acccidentally undoing my selects....)
Adding a more direct RMB menu option to Hide a file and/or a new keyboard shortcut would improve my workflow a lot.   And restoring the CTRL-1 shortcut for one star as well.

Using PE 11: Question 1: When I change a photo caption in Organizer, PE copies and deletes the file in the background, filling up my trash can. Running Windows 7 Pro.
    See:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Photos_appear_in
When you change a caption, not only that field in the catalog database is changed, but the field in the metadata section of the image file itself is changed: the original file is re-written. I think that it's a measure to enable 'undoing' the change. Is your trash can really filling up ?
Question 2: Intermittently the keyboard shortcuts aren't recognized (e.g., PF11 in organizer for displaying file in fullscreen). Any fixes/workarounds available?
I have only met the 'F11' key problem intermittently (in PSE12 as well). I am also on Win7. Doing some more testing, I found that I had to wait up to 5 - 10 seconds the first time before the full screen appeared. Then I have everything ready, including the filmstrip. I also tested with big raw files (32 Mb); they take normally around 7-9 seconds to be displayed. Only difference with small jpegs, the F11 screen appears after 5 - 10 seconds as previously described, the I wait for 7 - 9 seconds for the file to be converted and displayed.
Since then, I have always waited and I the F11 screen have always appeared. Could you try the same ?

  • What is the object to access keyboard shortcuts

What is the scripting object to access keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS3 using VB script?.
I have created a custom keyboard shortcut set and activated it. So the next time indesign starts,
this custom set will be active. But I want to activate the "Default" keyboard shortcut set programatically
using VB script. How can I do that?. What is the object?. I found an object to set default custom menu.
But I couldn't find one to set default keyboard shortcut. Please help.

    Hi,
The queries are stored in the database table OUQR.
You can add data to particular table and can also update the queries.
Once refer to the documentation of the OUQR table fields.

  • Keyboard shortcut not working - nonbreaking hyphen - help

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I can't get the keyboard shortcut for nonbreaking hyphen to work. I can get the nonbreaking hyphen to insert if I insert it via the type menu but menus are such time wasters. I have even tried to make a new and different keyboard shortcut for nonbreaking hyphen and it will still not work. Any ideas of what needs to be corrected/purged/smashed with a hammer to get this to work?
Thanks in advance for any help
Running InDesign CS3 5.0.2 on a PowerMac 2x2.66Ghz dual Core Intel Xenon, OS X 10.5.2, 2gigs ram 667 Mhz, and it sits on a crumby looking desk but I don't think the desk is the problem. ;)

Sigh. I figured out the problem. But thank you M Blackburn. Your response got me thinking about other shortcuts. Sure enough it was Universal Access that was causing the conflict. I must have hit command-option-8 at some point to turn on Zoom in Universal Access which then uses command-option-dash for the zoom out feature. Since I am already zoomed out nothing happened when I tried that key combination. Once I turned off that Zoom feature my keyboard shortcut in InDesign worked again.
    Phew.
    Thank you

  • Keyboard shortcuts vs icons

Although having worked with Adobe Pagemaker for many if the years it was around and viable-I was delighted when they introduced a quasi windows type toolbar.    There are still certain keystroke shortcuts that come easy to me having worked with Windows based Corel Draw and all the standards for many years.
Becoming a MAC enthusiast for a bit more than 2 years now and more so CS4 (altho I was up tp CS2 on Windows) I miss a lot of the Toolbox icons.
Adobe 3-finger type shortcuts are not my favorite.
So the question is:  Is there a CS4 (particularly for InD) that gives me icons for commands such as SAVE, SAVE AS, PRINT-?ok Command S and P are no big deal nor are the standards for Copy, paste etc-but if there is a ToolBar or command icons that I have not yet found can someone advise?    Also is there a way to program my mouse so when a misspelled word shows up underlined a left mouse click will bring up a suggestion list.  When I rt click I get: Insert Link, Insert image, Alignment, Insert Tablet.
Thanks next project is to go thru TUTORIAL-just haven't had the time yet-All of you are terrific for doing what you do.

You can customize existing, and define your own keyboard shortcuts under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
InDesign's Quick Apply feature (Edit > Quick Apply) opens a typing-sensitive shortcut list, so you can type a bit of a command name and press Enter or arrow a bit and then press Enter, to execute the command. See: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/503506

  • How to change keyboard shortcuts

    Hi everyone
can anyone help me to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS4.  When I create a new set in Edit Menu Keybord shortcuts and try to change Cmd+H to hide frame edges instead of hide indesign its not happening. can anyone tell me what is correct way to change the shortcut.
    Thanks
    Azeem

What's the default for hide edges on Mac? It's Ctrl + H which would in most circumstances lead me to think that it would be Cmd + H on Mac, but I think you are running into a problem with the OS using that key combo and intercepting the keystrokes.
Edit: that should have been Ctrl + H on Windows.

  • Mac upgrade to Yosemite, Adobe Indesign CS5 keyboard shortcuts not working -  t for text  - z for zoom - v for pointer etc

So I upgraded my MACBOOK PRO (Retina, Mid 2012) 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
    to MAC OS X YOSEMITE
Adobe Indesign CS5 generally works with some very annoying bugs.
All major keyboard shortcuts that use a single key command have stopped working. and these happen to be the main ones I use all the time for editing...
    t for text
    z for zoom
    v for pointer
It's annoying because now I have to keep  going back to the tool bar to change my cursor selection. It's just slowing me down.
    Annoying but workable.
Has anyone else go this issue?
An update or fix would be greatly appreciated.

    WARNING!!!
I was contacted by  apparently a third party supplier called Adobe Systems via this forum
They logged in to my computer via team viewer
    installed utorrent
and proceed to download a cracked version of adobe cs6
in the mean time saying on skype that Adobe no longer has Adobe CS6 on their server.
This seemed very OFF to me and I disconnected the skype (and blocked Adobe Systems) and disconnected TeamViewer
If I wanted a cracked version of Adobe CS6 I'm very capable of doing this kind of thing my self
However I run a business I want to have a legitimate licensed copy of the software running for my staff.
They were offering a fully licensed version of a Adobe Master Suite CS6 with my own unique ID for USD$400
Again very OFF considering the upgrade from Adobe from Indesign CS5 to CS6 is almost AUD$1600
I don't know how they got my email address from this forum but it seems that the adobe forum has been hacked!
    you have been warned!

  • Keyboard shortcuts suddenly not working in InDesign CC

For some reason, none of my basic keyboard shortcuts are no longer working for me on my Mac...
I've tried to change workspace, restart by holding the shift key and nothing.
    any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hi 454flutie,
In MAC 10.7 or later the Library is hidden. I sent you a link in the above post to unhide library , you can refer to that. Once its open you can navigate to Indesign locations and do the needful.
Steps to access hidden Library on MAC.
    Open Finder.
On the top left there will be a option GO.
Click on Go and Go to Folder.
Type ~/Library and click on Go, it will open hidden Library.

  • Fit Frame to Content Bug in InDesign CC? Keyboard shortcut not working

Using InDesign CC 9.1 in Mountain Lion, recently installed and has been working fine except I noticed that the keyboard shortcut for Fit Frame to Content won't work, even though the other frame fitting shortcuts work. I searched this forum and elsewhere to see if there was any reported bug for this but came up with bubkis.
When using the contextual menu option or toolbar button for Fit Frame to Content I don't have any problem. I thought perhaps my own set of shortcuts had overridden this default shortcut somehow so I reverted to the default set without any luck. I quit and re-opened ID with the default shortcut set, no luck either.
In the Keyboard Shortcuts menu options, when I try to assign Opt-Cmd-C it does say it's already assigned to that function. I'm at a loss here to understand why this one particular function isn't working as a shortcut. Any ideas why? What can I do? Thanks.

It's working for me in InDesign CC on the same operating system.
    Here's a couple ideas:
Make sure there's not a Mac OS X system shortcut already set to this shortcut. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts and check all the tabs for existing system shortcuts (I didn't find any but maybe you had set one). InDesign CC now gives preference to the system.
You could also try restoring your InDesign preferences.

  • Why have my keyboard shortcuts in Paragraph and Character styles quit working? (indesign cs6)

I can click on the style in the window, but the keyboard shortcut suddenly does nothing.

Hi James. Just a few threads down the list there is this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1198632?tstart=0
Even the name of the thread is similar to yours.
But first, you should do a bit of housecleaning in your font library. From your description it sound like a big mess.
Do you use any font management tools? Most of the times they do more harm than good (but i am aware that it's a necessary evil for the most part).
The fonts you are trying to use are in the font library or in the indesign document's folder?
While Mac is a lot better than Windows in managing multiple fonts/font versions, it's also a lot more "fragile" if something goes wrong with a font.
Try cleaning the font cache first:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
    the restart the font server
    sudo atsutil server -shutdown
    sudo atsutil server -ping
    have a look here also:
