  • Itunes:  i want to find a single fix for missing music on itunes rather than using "iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads" on a case by case basis.

recently when i was creating a playlist, i realized that i was missing music from my extensive itunes (12.0.1.26) library.  i found the solution "itunes:  finding lost media and downloads" and used the general approach to find the music in finder and copy it to itunes.  i don't want to do this every time i find i am missing music.  is there an automated fix?  i want apple to develop a way to automate the fix.  can it be that this isn't a problem for many people?
i ask this now because i just looked for music i thought i had but can't find.  maybe i am wrong about having the artist, but it has happened on another artist too.  i can't trust itunes to tell me whether i have a song or not.  i don't want to keep going back to finder, especially when the instructions in "itunes:  finding lost media and downloads" doesn't actually reflect my system (os x 10.7.5).
i don't want to try to do a restore.  i have never done a restore on my mac (previously a pc user).  and, i don't know how far back to take the restore to find the old music.  and then music i have added since i lost the old music wouldn't be there.
i understand that there are so many system variables that apple would need to take into consideration with a general fix.  but:  i am assuming that apple's changes have caused my problem and feel that apple should do something to fix it.  perhaps my assumption is incorrect.
    thank you for your help.

limnos, i always have backups.  the problem is that i don't know how far back in time to take a restore because i don't know how long this has been going on.  and, if i take the restore back very far, i will lose what has been added since the music started to disappear.
i don't even know what you mean when you say "you will check there aren't any broken links (use a script from the Dougscripts web site) before you do a backup."
i agree with you to some extent about not automatically installing upgrades.  i'm still running lion and was pushed to it from snow leopard.  the problem is that i have a hard time envisioning the changes described in an update to judge whether something is valuable or not.
i have questions about your last paragraph.  i'm going to repeat it here and then insert my questions as i go.  please forgive my all caps for the moment:
"Now for your missing music, is it that there are broken links, or are things missing completely from the library?" I DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION.  I BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH BROKEN LINKS.  WHEN I COULDN'T FIND THE MUSIC THAT I THOUGHT I HAD LOADED INTO ITUNES YEARS AGO, I FOUND THE CD'S AND IMPORTED THEM TO ITUNES.  I GOT A MESSAGE ABOUT SOME OF THE TRACKS BEING DUPLICATES THAT ASKED WHETHER I WANTED TO IGNORE OR IMPORT.  I CHOSE IMPORT BECAUSE ITUNES DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS DUPLICATED.  IT WAS ONLY AFTER RE-IMPORTING SEVERAL CD'S THAT I REALIZED THAT THERE WERE NOW DUPLICATES OF THE CD'S:  THE FILES I HAD JUST LOADED AND THOSE THAT I HAD LOADED SOME TIME AGO.  THE ORIGINALS MAGICALLY APPEARED AFTER I RE-IMPORTED THE CD'S.   I'M GUESSING THAT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A BROKEN LINK  I DON'T KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE A BROKEN LINK OR HOW TO PREVENT ONE.  AFTER I REALIZED THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THE "FINDING LOST MEDIA AND DOWNLOADS" QUIDE.  I LOCATED THE MISSING MUSIC IN FINDER AND DRAGGED IT TO ITUNES.  DOES THIS COUNT AS A BROKEN LINK?
"If the latter and you use iTunes default settings for managing media, you can drag your media folder to Automatically Add To iTunes.  It should add anything in the folder but not in the library list but ignore things that are."  CAN YOU REPHRASE THIS LAST PARAGRAPH?  I DON'T KNOW WHAT "DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR MANAGING MEDIA" MEANS.
FOR "DRAG MEDIA FOLDER TO AUTOMATICALLY ADD TO ITUNES,"  I THINK YOU MEAN I CAN DRAG   /MUSIC/ITUNES/ITUNES MEDIA/MUSIC   IN FINDER TO THE ITUNES ICON IN THE DOCK.  AND, THAT THAT ACTION WILL REPLACE ANYTHING MISSING IN ITUNES BUT NOT DUPLICATE THE FILES THAT ARE IN ITUNES.  IS THAT RIGHT?
thank you for your time and help, limnos.

  • Lost media for Final cut Pro X

I finished a project on final Cut Pro X and started on a new one downloading new footage.  I ran out of Disk space so I started to delete events from my iphoto library. (All is backed up)  I also deleted events and files that where being used in my previous project.  When I go to open the project they have obviously dissapeared and I am confronted with 2 different looking boxes.  One, with the usual 'Missing File' (Mainly photo's I think) with the red background icon, but also a lot of video which is replaced with a blue box with the linear look of a video and audio segment.  As I say I have all the footage backed up and have re uploaded back into iphoto.  I dont know how to make the program reconnect with the files I have reinstalled.

    Hi MC Hilton,
I found the following information that may be helpful in relinking lost media to a Final Cut Pro X project:

Also, If you need to figure out where the media and project files are located:

  • Lost media after battery pull

So, on Sunday my phone wouldn't connect to the network so I tried a battery pull.  When the phone came back on, it connected just fine, but all of my saved media (pictures, music, videos) was gone.  The media was all saved on the device and we use a BES at my office.  Any chance of recovering the lost media?  Phone seems to be working just fine--just don't have any pictures or videos left.  Thanks for any advice.

    Hi
Do another battery pull whilst powered on and leave the batterry out for a minute or 2.
Make sure that the folder/s with the media aren't hidden. Go through each folder - and Media and downloads and apps are the most obvious places and ensure "Show All" is ticked in the menu.
I presume you do regular back-ups as part of your firm's IT policy. You should be able to restore from a recent back-up with no fuss.
Otherwise I would refer to your admin for assistance; many admin folk prefer to deal with issues.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard - 22002418 - Lost Media

Need to install Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0today and client has lost the media. Is there a download to just the media? If not, what is the method to obtain new media?
    Thank you.

If the media was registered or at least have the key, then you may be able to download it. If not, then your client probably needs to look for the $$ to buy a new copy. As Bernd says, customer support is your route.
I guess that if the client has the key code, then possibly the demo version can be upgraded, don't know.

  • Comment replies lost in Acrobat X on Windows 7

Last month I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat X. I'm trying to do a very typical task (replying to reviewer comments on a PDF that I created last week). I imported comments from multiple PDFs into a single file and started accepting/rejecting comments and inserting replies.
I just lost half a day's worth of work because Acrobat X isn't saving the PDF correctly. In some cases (but not all), I would type replies to comments, and the text I typed would not show up unless I clicked on the original review comment immediately after entering the reply. As I was finishing my replies to the review comments, Acrobat crashed. I had been saving frequently, and when I looked at the timestamp of the file, it was very recent, so I felt reassured that no more than a few minutes of work had been lost. However, when I re-opened the file, it told me that it had no comments! I was unable to find any "autosaved" file, even though Autosave is on in my preferences. The Revert option did not show up in the File menu.
I re-imported the review comments into the file, and when I did this, I discovered that some (but not all) of my replies were there (and none of my accept/reject statuses). However, the replies were no longer embedded in the comments; they appeared above them, which would be confusing to my reviewers.
I just tried rebooting and starting over with a fresh re-import of the comments, but when I saved the PDF, closed it, and re-opened it, it told me again that it had no comments!
I hope someone can help me resolve these problems. Between the lost work, the removal of the Organizer feature, the inability to move the comment pane to the bottom of the screen, and the way I now have to right-click every time I want to change a comment status, I am having a very negative experience with Acrobat X so far!
    -Krista

Yes, on that first item, it looks like the replies show up better if I remember to go in an select Expand All before starting my reply work. I thought it was set to Expand All by default, but I guess not.
Thanks for the tip about the author name, although I'm still not crazy about using the context menu. It's too easy to accidentally select the wrong status. It was easier and quicker in Acrobat 9 where the status item was always visible. I'm not sure why they had to go messing with something that worked well.
I'm still having the major problem with saving the replies, however.
When I import comments into the PDF, enter replies, save, close the PDF, and reopen the PDF, the imported comments and my replies are gone.
In the Comment bar, I'm selecting Import Data File, selecting the PDF containing the review comments, and clicking Open. From what I read in the Help, that is the correct way to import comments. Is that right?
I'd rather not share my proprietary manual to a public forum. I'm not having any crashing problems today.
I can't get a screenshot of how my replies were showing up above the original comments, because my replies are no longer to be found anywhere. It looks like I have indeed lost that work I did yesterday. :-(

  • Lost media for final cut. Where to store?

ok so i do alot of pulling of pictures from the web and dropping to my desktop because its the quickest way to get pictures for my projects into final cut. but when i want to clean up my desktop because there is a million pictures there the media on my final cut gets lost because it can not find where i placed the pictures. so i've tryed importing them into iphoto and everywhere else but i wont work i still get missing content error. where should i bring these photos so i can clean my desktop up

    Do what innocentius said.
Then use the Relink Files command in FCP X if they appear to be missing. In fact, the relinking may not even be necessary, unless you move them to another drive.
FCP X is very clever in relinking files. Often you need only tell it in which volume the files are stored. So if you move them to a folder on an external drive, you then should do the relink command, select the drive and boom!

  • Puter suffered a critical failure.  My new laptop WIN 8 and I lost my Acrobat 9.0.

How do I get a new serial number from Adobe?  Or will I have to purchase a new version of acrobat?

Serial numbers are on your account - if you ever bothered to register or bought a download - or on your original install media. Refer to this:
    Find a serial number
If you have a serial, downloads are here:
Direct Download Links for Adobe Software
You should expect some issues on Win 8, though. Other than that: No serial, no activation. Adobe doesn't know what you don't know and indeed you wil lthen have to buy a new license.

  • HT201250 Time machine lost media after shutdown

I recently had to restore a external drive. In doing so,
    1. I purchased a larger drive (3TB). to be used as new TM backup.
             process...
    2. restored media from bad drive (1TB) to (3TB). successful! (removed bad drive from system)
    3. erased what was an older TM drive (1.5TB)
    4. copied restored media from new (3TB) drive to older TM drive (1.5TB)
    5. erased new (3TB) and selected it as new TM drive.
    6. made the 14 hour TM backup to new (3TB). all seems good.
TM has backed up IMac, and 2 external drives. all seems fine.
then after shutdown and restart, all previous backups are gone, and (1.5TB drive has to back up again)
    please help with any suggestions...
Why is media being lost after shutdown?
    Thanks,

after shutdown and restart, all previous backups are gone
Gone from where -- the 3 TB, the 1.5 TB, or both? How do you know they're gone?

  • Lost media in iMovie

After a crash of iMovie my media is no longer attaching to the project working timeline
I can see where the media should be but the thumbnails are blank
when i drag the media from aperture back into the project i can see it again but as soon as i close iMovie it is lost all over again
any thoughts on how i can reattach the media???

To tacred, I went to a One to One session and was informed all my movies were still on my computer under the old version if iMovie. That old version is still functional. Check there first, the star icon is a different color. Once you have moved the video over to the new iMovie, there's no going back. The Creative that I spoke to is really an expert and says the new iMovie is very good and a great improvement. If you have questions, you can always make a genius bar appointment, but descibe your purpose when making the reservation, so the store you go to will assign a creative to assist you for the 10-15 minute session. Have your questions ready!

  • Can I restore lost media files (pictures)?

I have just gone onto the media section on my blackberry curve and for some reason all of the pictures taken before November have just been wiped off. Can anyone tell me the reason for this and if I can get them back, they are really important to me....please help?

So you havent formatted the storage or deleted the files? If you had a mirco sd card you can use a pretty nifty program that will recover lost files.

  • 'Lost' media After ITunes Upgrade

Hi - I have an older computer and have saved my ITunes library to an external harddrive owing to capacity limitations on my system. I recently updated ITunes to the latest version and it changed the media file location back to the main unit C:Drive, from the external F:Drive I was using. I did not notice this for a while, until updating my iPhone it said lots of files were unlocated. Anything downloaded or added after the upgrade is fine, but all material (95%) from before is stuck on the external drive. I need to get all the new stuff onto the external drive and then run that as my media file location.
Please help an absolute computer duffer learn what to do!

If you read through the original thread that I linked to I mention that there might be a problem with the way the script generates the File Open dialog box. I don't have a Vista/Windows 7 system but hopefully I've now updated the script in a way which is supposed to work on Vista/Win 7 (but which I can't test on XP) and trapped the error so that if a file browse dialog isn't generated you get a file path to edit.
You can correct the location of the media path in *Edit > Preferences > Advanced*. If your media is already/still there in the standard iTunes folders then iTunes may even reconnect to it automatically.
If not then my script should help. It first tries to establish the proper location of your iTunes Media folder by scanning up to 100 files for ones that can be located and derives the path to the media folder from the location of the file. When I have time this could be updated to prompt the user if the automated scan is unable to work it out.
The script then processes the selected tracks or playlist, and for those files that can't currently be located by iTunes attempts to track them down at *<iTunes Media Folder>\<Media Type>\<Album Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<ext>*. If it finds a file at the expected location it will either reconnect iTunes to it automaticaly or will prompt for confirmation depending on your initial choice when you run the script.
If it still can't find the file it will attempt to get you to browse for it or edit it's current best guess.
As a rule don't move any files by hand. iTunes only gets confused. Once iTunes "knows" where all your files are you can consolidate to your chosen media folder, which copies anything currently outside of the iTunes media folder inside it. You can delete the original copies that are outside of the iTunes Media folder, e.g. on a differnt drive, once you've confirmed that all is well.
