Lost my library - except purchases!?

Downloaded new iTunes last night, hooked iPhone up to transfer purchases but now only the purchases are showing - where's the rest of the library?
I still have all my content on iPod and iPad but am terrified to hook them up to my pc in case the same thing happens again - i'm desperate
H E L P !!!!!!

If your library is still on your computer, you can add your songs to iTunes by using the "Add folder to library” option in iTunes.
Also, this user tip also recommends software for transferring music from your iPhone to iTunes, so you may find it helpful.

  • Upgraded and lost music library except for purchased songs

I followed the upgrade prompt, and it wiped out my entire music library and playlists except for those songs I had purchased on I-tunes. The hundreds I downloaded from my own purchased CDs are gone. Help!

I had this happen to me a year ago when I upgraded from an older version. I was saddened when I lost all of my library. I then tried to install the older version that I still had in my recycle bin, and then by some miracle I got back my whole library. To this day I do not know what I did to restore it as I don't understand this process very well. But one thing I do know I will not upgrade. I still have iTunes 6.0 and will keep it. BUT I have another post out there because I can not burn a disk of one of my files. I keep getting the message "iTunes has to close now ...sorry for the inconvience etc." I need an answer to that question. Hopefully someone will be able to help me.

    Your library should be safe.

    - You can only syncewith one iTunes library.  It sounds like you change libraries such as changing the computer.
    - As you may know you can transfer iTunes' pruchases to a new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - This previous discussion provide info on how to move other music from an iPod to a computer:

    - You can also manage music with different computers by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    - If you need more help please provide more information.

  • HT203167 When I transferred my iTunes library over to my new Mac, I lost all of my purchased songs. I still have my songs that I uploaded from CDs, but I can't find my iTunes purchases. Did they vanish?

When I bought a new Mac and transferred my library, my purchased songs/movies didn't go with it. Now I can't find them. I thought I remember seeing them with a little cloud icon but I don't even see that anymore.

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud.

  • Lost all my non purchased music

My old hard drive is no longer working so I have no back-up/ITunes.  In trying to get to my ipod_control folder I've lost all my non-purchased music.  Not sure how that happened.  The non-purchased music is not visible.  When looking at the IP Touch settings I see there there is only 58M out of 7G available which leads me to believe that the music is still on the IP Touch.  Where do I go from here?
    thanks in advance....

Several things: What do you mean by "trying to get to my ipod_control folder"? Are you talking about accessing the file system of the iPhone itself? FWIW, this is a very bad idea and can end up hosing your phone permanently.
There are several utilities out there that will allow you to (try) and extract the music from your phone. Google is your friend on this one. With the exception of purchased media, media sync is one way. Computer>iPhone. There is no sanctioned method of getting other media files off of the iPhone and onto a computer.
As far as another back-up scheme goes, the iPhone is NOT a backup device. You can't back up after the fact. Keeping a backup of the data on your computer, including your iTunes library, is the sane thing to do and basic common sense is to back up your data BEFORE you lose it, not afterward.

  • Broken Hard Disk, lost iTunes library

Recently my hard disk stop working. So I lost my iTunes library. It was practically empty since I manually managed all songs.
So now I have to create a new library but when I try to check the option "Manually manage music and videos" iTunes ask me to format my iphone.
Why should it delete the iphone content? Will I loose all my apps?

Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - MusicRescue - http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/products/musicrescue/ - Mac & Windows
    - Sharepod (free) - http://download.cnet.com/SharePod/3000-2141_4-10794489.html?tag=mncol;2 - Windows

In general do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining a backup of your media on a computer backup.

  • HT1751 when I try to drag my Itunes into my external hard drive, I get the "no way" symbol, circ;e with a line thjrough it. How can I back up? I have lost a fortune in purchased items because I cannot back up despite following the Unhelpful help.

I cannot drag my Itunes folder to my external hard drive, despite following the unhelpful help exactly. I get a "no way" sign Circle with a line though it. I have lost a fortune in purchased goods (audio books)  because I cant do it. Itunes have said they cant reimburse me and they dont have those books anymore, so cannot redownload them for me. Please remind me NEVER to buy apple products again.
I am scared I am going to lose more money seeing I cant BACK ANYTHING UP.

If you used the hard drive with another Mac then it is likely Mac formatted.  It was because you posted in the iTunes for Windows forum (kind of the equivalent to taking a VW to a Ford dealership for service) I thought you might be using a Windows formatted drive.
Thumb drives are not universal.  There isn't a "universal" drive format.  Some work partly with both systems but are not fully compatible.
Click once on the hard drive icon on the desktop.  Fo to File then Get Info.  It will say the drive format.
Frankly I have never had your problem with a drive so I can't help too much except in general experience.  The prohibitory sign is pretty universal and for some reason you are not allowed to copy to that drive.
I think if you had a Windows computer you'd be unhappy with it too and probably be posting on a forum that your machine was virus ridden and crashing and you didn't know anything about registries...  To be honest, I was doing a presentation on a friend's Windows computer and wanted to get it to display a simple image file.  There was no way we could get the .jpg image file to open with anything but Windows Explorer which is a web browser!  I mean, that's really bad, and of course he was so used to using it without knowing anything about computers that he could not help me.  I did my presentation in front of 30 people using Explorer.

You have a backup of your computer, or at the very least of your iTunes media, correct?
Simply copy your backup of your iTunes media into the iTunes library on your new computer.
Connecting and syncing your device to the new computer without first recovering your iTunes media is a really, really, really bad idea.  iDevices are designed to ONLY sync with one computer.  When you plug your device into a new computer, it will wipe all media on the device when it syncs.  The only media you may be able to salvage and transfer to the new computer would be anything bought directly on the device.
If you do not have a backup of your iTunes media, then you will want to either look at a way (using software from a third party company)  to either extract the media from you iDevice or your old computer (assuming the hard drive is not toast).

  • Lost fifa 12 game purchased item & orders

hello all i purchased fifa 12 game using united kingdom region after while i was trying to syncronize with my ipad2 i lost the item in my application library later on i changed my region to united states and i have been trying to retrive my purchase but i have not been able to do that can anyone help on this issue please.

Does it matter if I am in manual managed mode or not? Currently I am not in manual mode but have switched back and forth numerous times. I think I'm screwed now because the last time I turned off manual mode and sync'd, I lost the TV video purchase I had made. Now, the only thing I see is in my Purchases, there is the show with an exclamation point. Won't apple let me download it again? What can I do, I really don't want to throw away the money I spent on this purchase just to to some user or technological error. Does itunes have acustomer support phone number?
    thanks

  • ITunes lost all of my purchased music, will not allow me to re-download

I recently lost all of my purchased music, around 180 songs, out of the blue. This was not a hardware issue with the underlying block device, as the only music affected were recently purchased music.
I have tried multiple times to redownload my purchased items only to find that the download all button becomes gray and nothing is actually re-downloaded. I have tried this on Windows and on my Mac (which i was working on moving my music to) with the same results. At one point it actually re-downloaded one song however none of my other purchased items were downloaded and the "download all" button went grey.....
I am running the latest OSX Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5.2
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Your iPod is designed to sync only one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it to a new library it will replace the contents that are currently on the iPod with the contents from the new library.
So what you'll need to do is copy all the content currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  Then you can go ahead and restore it to factory settings and start syncing it all back over to your iPod from scratch.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different methods available for copying content from your iPod back to your PC.

  • Lost Photo Library - Apple TV

    Hi guys,
while resizing the partition of my external HD, I lost the photos that were stored in my iPhoto library. I've scanned the HD several times with various data recovery programs and was able to find some, yet not all of the lost photos. I had given up, but then I saw that my apple tv screen saver was displaying all of the lost photos!
Here's the deal: iTunes and iPhoto library were on the external HD. I resized the partition on the HD and thereby lost everything (I'm not very computer literate). I have the apple tv screen saver function set to the old and lost iPhoto library which can only be linked through the iTunes media library (which is also gone). Apple support says that apple tv is completely passive and therefore cannot store any data?
Does anyone have an idea how to help me find this file or at least solve this mystery?
I would really appreciate any help!
    Thanks

Screensaver is just using a cache. There's no way to get anything back from there.
File Salvage is an app that will scan the drive and tell you what files may be recoverable. Mind you, actual recovery will require a purchase.
Couple of notes: You will not recover the Library. Forget about that. The best you can hope for is to recover the individual photos and start over again. The scan may find many images with the same name. Ignore anything smaller than 500kb, that's likely to be only a thumbnail. Larger files are more likely to be the originals.
    Regards
    TD
