Lost objectives, initiatives and milestones in SSM

I have lost the objectives, initiatives and milestones after delete the application group.
We have created a demo enviroment for a client demo.
Created the context, application groups, perspectives, objectives, initiatives and milestones in SSM Administrator's user interface.
Initiatives are created with the correspondings applications groups.
We realized that the applications groups weren't linked with any the SAP Netweaver UME system group. Then we deleted the applications groups in SSM Administrator's user interface in order to create them correctly.
After that we see that the objectives, initiatives and milestones don't appear in the SSM > Initiatives tab. The strange thing is that we can see objectives and initiatives when clicking on the goal diagram.
We think that after deleting the application group the values where deleted from the initiatives, milestones, etc.
How can we recover initiatives, milestones, etc?

I would like to update the information posted. I only lost initiatives and milestones (not objectives) after delete an application group.
I understand when you say if you delete an application group you loose initiatives asociated to. It was what happened to me. But the strange thing is that although the initiatives aren't in the Initiatives tab I am still seeing them when I clicking on the goal diagram.
If I click on the initiative link on the goal diagram a error message appears: "Cannot display linked inititative contact your System administrator. Initiative may have been deleted, or you may not have permission to view it".
Do you know how it is possible to view the "old initiatives" in the goal diagram if they were deleted? Are the initiaves still saved in the server?

Authorization on initiative and item creation

Dear Experts,
Could you please comment on back-end RPM role customizing and front-end object authorization to do the following:
1. the portfolio structure of buckets contains two sections on the fists level: the first of them is to assign initiativs and the second is to assign portfolio items, items are assigned to initiatives.
2. the user should:
- read all of the initiatives in the first bucket
- create new initiatives and change just initiatives created by him or he is allowed to change in front-end object authorization
- of item of initiatives with read authorization at Item Dashboard of the second bucket the user should see (read) just items of initiative of the first bucket
- the user first creates initiative and then items of initiative. initiatives should be assigned to the first bucket and items to the second bucket.
3. back-end role should allow to read create and write items and initiatives of 2 from 5 Category values. And when user creates and changes initiative/item data then he should see just 2 from 5 Category values.
We implemented notes 1382703 and 1235897 but it didn't solved the problem.
We are implementing RPM 4.5.

Hi Rohan,
Have you tried:
Administration -> System Initialisation -> Authorizations -> General Authorizations:
Authurisation Window: General -> Close Document = No Authorisation.
This will block the user from closing documents in the open Item list but also from other menu points.

How to check if an object exists and how to discard it?

I have a main GUI panel in a JFrame that creates a smaller JFrame with a progress bar and text area whenever a process is initiated. I've set the default close operation to DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE as when I set it to EXIT_ON_CLOSE the main GUI panel closes as well (!). But whenever I'm closing the smaller JFrame and initiate a new thread, then the same operation is perform in parallel 2, 3 ,4 times, etc. It seems that the object of the class ProgressGUI which carries all the components of the small panel is not disposed properly. So my question is how can I check if an object exists and if yes how can I discard it? Or in other words how can I discard the JFrame of the small panel without closing the main GUI panel as well?

I've set the default close operation to DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE thats right.
So my question is how can I check if an object exists Whenever you create an object, save its refrence somewhere, then just check
if(reference==null){
         //object does not exist
}else {
        //object exists
and if yes how can I discard it? Ensure that no references of the object to be discarded are remaining with any of the objects and then believe in 'Garbage Collector' to do the job! e.g. if there is only one reference to the frame (in your case) somewhere, you can just make an assignment like:
reference=null;by doing this, you have made the object a candidate for garbage collection. Rest is done by 'Garbage Collector', not you.
For cases like yours, it is better to make the small frame just once and whenever required just make the frame visible.
e.g.
JFrame smallFrame;
void showSmallFrame(){
    if(smallFrame==null)smallFrame=new SmallFrame(); //or something like that
    smallFrame.setVisible(true);

CREATE OBJECT obj and EXCEPTIONS problem

I have a problem with my program.
CREATE OBJECT obj
EXPORTING
    ls_record_local = ls_record
EXCEPTIONS
    error = 1.
When there is no exception everything is fine, but when the sy-subrc = 1, there is no possibility to trigger any other method like
CALL METHOD obj->get_data.
System says that obj is initial and it goes to dump.
Any idea how to prevent this dump How can I have the reference to my object after exception has been throwed ?

CREATE OBJECT command creates an instance of the class. If there is a problem in instantiating the class an EXCEPTION is raised & the class doesn't get instantiated.
In this case you can't use the instance attributes / methods of the class.
Try something like this:
CREATE OBJECT obj
EXPORTING
    ls_record_local = ls_record
EXCEPTIONS
    error = 1.
IF sy-subrc NE 0.
MESSAGE 'Error Instantiating the class' TYPE 'E'.
ENDIF.
CALL METHOD obj->method.

Lost all contents and settings during 'routine' update to v1.1

Hi all,
Not too sure what went wrong, but I lost all settings and data during what I thought would be a routine firmware update.
In the middle of the update, the phone hung, and the PC gave me the error message that it needed to restore to what turns out to be factory settings. All settings, data, notes and pictures were gone! (no warning given!)
Since I didn't have a chance to download these before I got started, I'm not too sure what to say - if you see a way of backing up your phone before you update the firmware, I'd recommend that you do it.
I've updated a lot of firmware in my life - I'd have to say this is the worst and the first time ever that I've lost data.
In case anyone from Apple monitors this site - is there a way to seperate the data and the firmware area, so that if this kind of thing happens, you only wipe the firmware area?
The phone even initially told me I had to re-register and only offered me a way to make an emergency call ...

Have you docked your Iphone in before updating? If so your contacts and settings should be saved. Yes your picture's are going to gone because you have to manually save them. According to this post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1069906&tstart=0 it looks like the activation is down with ATT so this is why you are having problems getting all your contacts and settings and having to reactivate.

Actually there was 3 options and I chose to "remote delete" afterward I realized that It was better to choose "Lost mode"
now page is locked and I can not undo and choose the other option ...

Sorry, there is no magic way to find it. You will need to search for it, as you would with any other object.

Questions on ADF View Objects, Links and Iterators

I have a number of questions regarding using ViewObjects in applications where there are alot of relationships between tables.
First, lets say that I have ViewObject SomeView that was added to the App Module (AM) as VO1. And because it has a number of "detail" records that have to be iterated through in a "report like" view it has those other VO's added under it as "children" in the AM.
So I have
VO1 (an instance of SomeView)
--> VO2 (an instance of some other view)
--> VO3 (an instance of some other view)
that is used on pages where only a single VO1 is shown at a time.
Now because I had another page I wanted to make that had a listing of all SomeView objects. Some of the fields in SomeView are foreign keys to records in VO2 and VO3 and while I don't want to show all the fields from VO2 and VO3, I do want to show a name field from each rather than just the foreign key.
My experience (though I've never read this anywhere) tells me that when doing a "table" that is a list of rows from a VO, you can't display info from the child VO's because the child VO's are on whatever record corresponds to the "currentRow" in the parent VO and just displaying the rows in a rangeSet doesn't make each the "currentRow" so even we display 10 records in a for loop, the "currentRow" is just one, and the child VO's iterators aren't moved as we go through the for loop. (Can someone confirm if I am correct on this conclusion????)
So the only way I know of to show some field from a related table in each row is to make the VO have the entity objects from the related tables be part of the view as references. Is this the only way?
If I do that on a view that didn't have other views as children defined in the AM I don't have any problem and it works like I want.
But if I do it on a view that did have other views as children defined in the AM it makes the page(s) using that view with the children iterators behave badly. Half the information quits showing up, etc.
For example, ... if I go to the "SomeView" which was defined with only one entity object association, and I add the entity objects (that are the basis of instances of VO2 and VO3 ) as referenceable only, it totally breaks the page where I display a single VO1 and use it's VO2 and VO3 children. IS THIS NORMAL OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
So, is the solution that I have to have more view objects defined for different purposes ?
Can anyone give any general guidelines for when/where to use different view objects vs. when to use different iterators. I'm not having much luck with using secondary RSI's and haven't found much info on them.
Also, how about issues of naming iterators that are in various binding containers (ie. UI Model for a page). If I do and LOV it creates an iterator and gives it a default name like ViewNameIterator1. If I already have a different page that uses a regular (non LOV) iterator with that name, and the user goes back and forth between those pages, is that a clash?
Finally, I've read a couple of Steve Muench's blogs on View Link consistency but I'm not sure what the rules are on when it applies and doesn't. How you turn it on or off, etc. One of his examples in http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2004/02/27.html talks about it in the context of two view objects that are NOT typically "linked" in a master/detail kind of way. Like an AllDepartments and a DepartmentsLessThan view. Do you have to create a View Link between them to have results of one be reflected in the other if they aren't used in the same page in a web app? Or does it happen automatically (with the caveat that you have to do the rowQualifies method). Just feels like I'm missing some pieces.

Working on that now. If you removed the device from your iCloud account rather than using the "Stop Lost Mode" option, then you will most certainly need to restore the iPhone, and that will require a computer running iTunes.

If you don't have a backup then the only possible solution is to go back to the store and see if they can get your old phone and create a backup of that. I know very often that Apple employees will wipe the returned iPhones clean before shipping them back to wherever they ship them.
When you say your old phone was "broken" does this mean it is dead and won't turn on?
Do you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, or a clone that might have this info on it?
Other than that I hate to say you may be out of luck. Time Machine and/or a cloning program performed regularily will inevitably save your a** in situations like this.
