Lost photos when imported

I lost my photos when imported. We're there then battery ran out. Then when turned back on had restarted and seemed to have lost my photos I had imported from that day. Is there anyway of getting them back?

Check, if this help text lets you find your photos -
See:  Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6464
Have you enabled the "Summarise Photos" option? Then disable it.
By default, Photos displays a representative subset of your photos when you view by year or by collection.
To see all your photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Summarize Photos.
And did you migrate your photos from iPhoto?  Some photos may still be in the iPhoto Library, that is no longer supported:

  • Photos copies photos when importing even when told not to copy photos when importing?

The new Photos app is pretty cool.
The one thing I didn't like about iPhotos is still present here:  Rather than handling my photos in the Finder it creates a weird database full of all the photos -- and the only way to get to them is via this one app.  I guess maybe we'll have a solution for that in the future.
But I have stumbled across something that may be a deal breaker for me:  Even when set to not COPY imported photos, it turns out the Photos copies imported photos.
In preferences:  GENERAL -> IMPORTING you can choose whether to Copy Items To The Photo Library.
Well, I don't want to do that.  I have 8G of photos on my drive, and relatively little space, and the last thing I need to do is use double the space!  So I chose not to copy items when importing.
I come back a couple hours later.  And guess what?  My Photos app/library is 8G in size!  Photos has copied all my photos when importing.   So now I have two copies of all my photos on my hard drive, and I am running out of space.
Is there a way to make that setting, to not copy photos when importing, work?

    Hi,
Thanks for the idea.  Here is what I found:
The "Masters" folder is very small.  300MB.
The "Previews" folder is a similar size.
    "Thumbnails" are under 1G.
It's the "Resources" folder that is many gigs in size.
Very interesting.  So in a sense, it could be even worse!
That is, apparently the setting prevented the "Masters" folder from getting 8 gig of photos copied into it.
But even so, "Resources" ended up with 6.5G in it -- even though no files were copied!
    Wild.
Other photo management apps (e.g., Lightroom) have sort of a 10% overhead, not a 90% overhead -- i.e., close to the same size as the actual photos themselves.
I should probably start a fresh question, now that you have solved half the mystery:  Yes, the actual photos were not imported into Masters, but Resources gets really big!

  • Iphoto lost photos when it unexpectedly stopped??

    Hello,
I recently got a MacBook Pro and it was all going good, until now.  So I have a camera and whenever I import my photos, I import them into iphoto. Lately it has been quitting unexpectedly, but it never lost any of my images.  This time, I just imported about 400 photos and when it was done importing it asked if i wanted to delete them from my memory card and I said yes. After it deleted them from the memory card, it "quit unexpectedly" and when I re-opened iphoto there was just two folders in my events from what I just imported and nothing in them.
I've looked in last import, trash and folders from the iphoto library in finder.  This is really frustrating and I'm wondering if there's a way to save my photos! If anyone knows please help!
    Thanks,
    Lewx2

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto shows "No Photos" when importing...

iPhoto shows "No Photos" even when I have photos to import. If I restart the computer and then plug in my camera into the USB, iPhoto will pop up and show all the photos in my camera and import, but it only seems to do so immediately after restart. If I attempt to import photos again, maybe a few minutes after the first successful import, it goes back to "No Photos." It recognizes the device but does not import anything.
Anyone know have any ideas on how to import photos without having to restart computer constantly for each import?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try repairing disk permissions with disk utility and delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
A workaround until you find a solution is to use Image Capture (in the Applications folder) to manually upload the photos to a folder on the desktop and import from there. When you're sure the photos are safely in the library you can delete the folder from the desktop and reformat the memory card with the camera to be ready for the next shoot.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • IPhoto duplicates (doubles) all photos when importing

    Hi
    iMac 27 2009/10
    OSX 10.8.5
    iPhoto 11 9.4.3
When importing from an iPhone (and i think a digital camera) iPhoto imports say 10 photos but it puts 20 into iPhoto - i.e. it duplicates every photo it imports
It never used to do this and i can't see anywhere in preferences where there is a setting to import photos and double them up ?
When we import some 100 photos and we get 200 into iPhoto its a real pain to have to go through them and delete the duplicates

If you're shooting HDR photos with your iPhone and don't want double imports turn off the Keep Normal Photo under Settings ➙ Photos & Camera on your iPhone:
Frankly, I'd keep the normal photo. It might be far better than the HDR version, if the camera was not perfectly stabilised or the target moved. Usually it requires the large screen on the Mac to be able to compare the normal photo to the HDR version, to be able to see, if the HDR version is passable.

  • Why is Lightroom 5.4 not recognizing existing photos when importing from another catalog?

I have lightroom 5.4 now updated on my studio desktop computer and my laptop when working in the field. I have a folder of images on both computer catalogs and that inlcudes the negatives on each computer. I made a bunch of edits and changes on my laptop of that folder of images and then exported the changes as a catolog to import into my studio catalog but lightroom doesn't recognize the photos when I import from another catalog. Lightroom tries to add the photos as another folder even though the negatives are there and they are already imported into the desktop catog. Why doen't lightroom recognize they are the same images when I'm importing as catalog? I've always done this with past versions of Lightroom with no problems. I'm just exporting the previews since the negative files are already on both computers. What is wrong?

The folder hierarchy has to be exactly the same; the slightest thing can throw it off, an upper case on one machine and lower case on the other or a misspelling.

  • Lost photos when iphoto crashed during import

I downloaded 92 photos from my camera to iphoto 7.1.5, I deleted the photos on the camera at prompt, iphoto then crashed, and the imported photos did not appear in iphoto.   The previous import shows up as the latest import.

You can recover the files from the camera with an app like MediaRecover

  • Grayed out, weird photos when importing from Camera Roll

OK, wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I use Photoshop's Bridge import to pull my photos of my iPhone 3Gs. When I do, I often have these weird photos - I'm not totally sure why they are happening. And, the good news is that once they are pulled, they appear to be fine, but I'm just looking to see if I'm not the only one.
They seem to be possibly related to:
    a) being taken by an alternate camera app (I've tried several, Camera Genius, Snapture, CameraFlash and CameraZoom - yep, trying to get a better photo!),
    b) being altered in some way (I've used Photogene to improve some, but it makes a duplicate?), or
    c) being copied or saved to the CameraRoll from another program (I'm a Phanfare user and their Photon app is phenomenal).
So, some pictures of examples below, but as long as they images are OK when they come in, is it just fine? I always worry when something is not what it should be on an Apple device or within an Apple software.
    Thx - Alexa
(Saved to Camera Roll from Photon - you can see though that others saved the exact same way are fine?):

    Hi Lawrence -
Thanks for your response! I'm on a Mac so my options are different, but I think about using a more basic viewer and went to iPhoto and looked at the pictures on my phone as a device, and they all look fine (or some are not duplicates) - so maybe it's just a Photoshop import thing or ghosting issue?

  • Lost photo's importing from iPhone to iPhoto

    HELP!
I imported about 40 photo's of a very precious event with my kids this morning, off my iPhone 4 into iPhoto 09 (version 8.1.2 (424)). I made the stupid mistake of saying "delete photo's off my phone" after the import (I thought I'd make it into an album and re-import).
Photo's showed they successfully imported, I ejected my iPhone from iTunes and disconnected. I went to the "last import" in iPhoto, but it was very odd. It showed up at the top "Untitled Event - 1 Photo", but then had showed 38 items. Each one showed a thumbnail of the same photo, but was sized, scaled and oriented as per the actual real photo. Several videos on the import showed they were videos. When I clicked on a video, even though the thumbnail was wrong, it showed the correct video.
Likewise if I clicked on any of the 38 photo's even though they all had the same (wrong) thumbnail, the correct photo came up.
I tried to switch to the event view, and iPhoto froze. I waited 15 minutes to see if it could "unfreeze" but all I had was the spinning beachball. I had to do a force quit.
I rebooted my whole mac, and opened iPhoto. Opens fine - but there is no indication of the 1 "event", or any of the photo's at all. On my iPhone, equally weird! The photo roll still shows that there are 38 photo's and videos on it - but they are all blacked out, and cannot be viewed.
Help - the photo's had to have been imported, as I was able to view them at one stage - how can I find them?
    Cheers,
    Rob

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How can I delete photos when importing from iPhone 4

I'm using Aperture 3.13 on Mac OS X 10.7.1.  When I import photos from my iPhone 4 I am never asked to delete files from the camera roll.
What am I doing wrong?  How can I have Aperture delete photos from the camera roll once they are imported?

Aperture won't delete the photos from your iPhone. Most users have settled on using Image Capture ater importing into Aperture to delete the photos from the iPhone.

  • Missing photos when importing from a Fuji s602zoom digital camera

I noticed that when I import the photos from my digital camera (as above), sometimes there are some missing. No error messages displayed and the import seems to finish OK.
This makes life difficult as I cannot now trust iPhoto and have to check every import.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Neville:
On those occasions where the camera drops some photos are there any movies on the card?
A workaround is to use Image Capture to upload either to a folder on the Desktop first or directly into iPhoto. It's not recommended that you have iPhoto erase the card after import as there have been too many cases, yours for one, that have incomplete uploads and complete erasures.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back.
