Lpdagent killing chrome?

I have a factory install of windows 8 on the W830, and installed chome, and not much more.
The problem is chrome forgets everything every time I start it.
Eg. if I do any of these:
1) install an extention
2) bookmark a page.
3) change a chrome settings, such as download dir.
The next time I launch chrome, it has forgottoen all of these.
The google forums told me to rename the follwoing file:
  c:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
However, even with chrome closed, and no chrome processes runing (checked via task manager), it wont let me rename the dir as it says its in use.
I used processExplorer from microsft to trackdown the culprit, and it turns out its lpdagent.exe.  A bit of googling reveals this is a lenovo program.
Any idea how I kill this program, and stop it ever running again?  Anyone else have this?  Anyone know why its doing it?
Thanks!

Are you able to figure out which program lpdagent.exe is associated with? If your able to, uninstall the program its connected with, as long as its nothing important.
I have not got this problem by the way.

  • Firefox-update killed chrome. any ideas? can i downgrade?

i have a mac 10.5.8 and upgraded yesterday firefox to to 10.0.2.
result: chrome - my second browser, that i prefer for a lot of things - isn't opening in the browser anymore. i deleted and downloaded chrome a few times - the result is always the same: the ball icon dances a few times, then "sleeps". i get the written chrome sign beside the apple-icon in the upper left corner, but if i try to open "about" or "preferences" etc - nothing works. just plain dead.
i don't know what my last firefox-version was - but would it be possible do downgrade without loosing all my plugins, extensions, bookmarks etc?

    Hi Verdi,
thanks for taking the time to help. sorry to say: it didn't work. i had tried a new download/installation from chrome before, now at least 6 times. nothing works. the reason why i think the update of firefox is the culprit: it happened immediately after the restart - and i read on the web that others had the same experience. anyway, thanks for trying, looks like my chrome days are over with this computer...

  • Mid-2010 MBP beachballing, so slow, pretty clean - any advice?

Hello!  So, I have a similar to what other people have reported about slow system performance.  EtreCheck below for my MBP, so I created a new thread.
I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro.  History:  Was okay but not blazingly fast out of the box.  Used it for a while, seemed to slow down over time.  Upgraded to Mavericks when it came out - didn't help and eventually got even slower.  Wiped the drive clean, reinstalled the OS and put my applications back on, seemed to be okay, but got slower pretty quickly to the point that it was so frustrating that I didn't want to use it. Now I just upgraded to Yosemite and it's worse - can't stand to use the MBP anymore.  Beachballs or delays on menu clicks or switching between apps; slow boot up & shut down; frozen browsers; couldn't even Force Kill chrome yesterday.  Also, battery only lasts like 2.5-3 hours...I watch it tick down just sitting here on Chrome not doing anything. (It's been that way almost from the beginning, from what I recall.)
Have and use essentially only Chrome, Safari, and MS Mac Office 2008 (Excel & Powerpoint).  Couldn't use Parallels due to slowness, so gave up a while ago before Mavericks!! Genius at the Apple Bar ran diagnostic checks, says everything is fine with hardware, battery and disk.  I can't figure out how a pretty clean system can be so slow.  Makes me want to revert to PC!  I ran a EtreCheck, here it is. If anyone has any thoughts, I'm interested to hear.  THANK YOU!

  • Taskkill /F broken in windows 8 when applied to a process that crashes on exiting

It appears that Windows 8 has broken the taskkill command in part at least (actually, I think it is more likely a broken ability to set the debug attribute, which in prior Windows versions allowed taskkill to kill programs even if in a different security
context; but I don't know exactly how to test that or prove my hypothesis).  When attempting to kill a process that is hung on exit (e.g., attempted a normal exit from the program, but it hangs and fails to exit, and continues to consume system resources),
there appears to be no way to terminate the application/service, and an "access denied" error is generated even though run from the administrator command prompt.
I have had this happen now many times with chrome.exe (which seems to have lots of issues with Windows 8 in general, but especially when exiting), as well as Skype.exe (a perpetual problem child program under any system).  It is repeatable if you can
get any program to crash/hang on exit:
    (1) start a bunch of chrome.exe windows, especially ones that require resources like scripts, and then attempt to exit chrome window by window - this will cause chrome to crash on exit 5/10 times.  Confirm hung process via ctr-shift-esc and see
that at least one chrome task is still running (chrome window may or may not still be visible)
    (2) From the administrator command line: "taskkill /IM chrome /F" which will give the access denied error.
    (3) psutils is also unsuccessful: pskill chrome /F also gives same error (run from administrator command prompt)
As I understand prior Windows releases, there is a debug attribute that was set by these particular utilities (under Windows 7 and earlier) which allowed taskkill and pskill to kill processes even when the task manager failed to do so.  It seems
that something is broken under Windows 8 now in that regard.
Any ideas how to fix?  is there a registry fix?  Another utility that works under Windows 8?

    Hi,
I tried the command in Windows 8, it works with no problem. I can even kill explorer.

The problem is with killing certain "runaway" processes.  I can kill chrome just fine ... until it crashes!  Once it crashes, it is unkillable.  Something is not right.

  • SL starting in safemood from lion??

Where to start. How about I had OSX lion and downgraded to snow leopard. Just last night I was on chrome and I was waiting for a page to load. Chrome game me an error saying that it needed to kill a page. Fine! So that was the problem. It would not kill the page so I tried to open the task killer and kill chrome. Negative. That didn't work. Basically my computer was frozen. Ok! So I forced shut down. At that time I had my external hdd connected which had some files of lion and the OSX lion copy on it. I went to restart my computer and I began getting the broken folder flashing with Apple icon during startup. It booted into safemood with lion as the OSX. I canceled all that out so I can select the installer which said 10.6.8. I clicked that and once again it booted into lion safemode. I ran the disk utility and did verify disk and repair disk and repair permissions. All separate times. All of which still made the computer boot into lion safemode. I put in the snow leopard install disk and tried to boot from disk and reinstall to repair the permissions. To my amazement my laptop is full and has only 400mb of free space so now I can't reinstall.
I have yet to take it to the Apple Store so I would like to see what you all have to say. I have too much valuable stuff on there to reinstall OSX completely.

OK, your problems most likely stem from the fact, that you only have a few MB of free space. Cleaning up the system now will necessitate freeing up 15% or more of your hard disk before you'll even be able to boot it again.  Downgrading as you tried from 10.7 to 10.6 without first erasing is not recommended.  You'll get a mix of incompatible drivers and applications.    At this point, my advice is getting a much larger external hard drive, and just erase and install Snow Leopard on it, and salvage what you can from from the internal drive.     Recognize anything update to the Lion version won't work on Snow Leopard.      Once you have a working Snow Leopard with all your data files and known working applications, clone back your data to the internal drive.  Then only upgrade to Lion, when you know you are ready using this tip as a guide:

  • Virtual memory exhaustion when idle

Everytime I leave my laptop for a long period of time (couple of hours) and then come back I get the popup that windows ran out of memory.
So I tried to look into event viewer and here is what I see ( http://goo.gl/TLpkV6 ) //Sorry I'm not allowed to post pictures for whatever reason
The event details display those values:
    SystemCommitLimit 34 235 564 032
    SystemCommitCharge 34 088 890 368
    ProcessCommitCharge 4 058 849 280
    PagedPoolUsage 438 538 240
    PhysicalMemorySize 8 465 760 256
    PhysicalMemoryUsage 4 248 018 944
    NonPagedPoolUsage 183 934 976
    Processes 129
I have the default Pagefile size (maintained by system) and it looks like something is using it all even though the physical memory has still about 50% free space
So I tried to attach a task to this event and I used PsList to dump all the processes when this event occurs. However I didn't find anything abnormal in the log.

When I did the SUM, I got these results:
    VM: 33,601,910
    WS: 4,038,504
    Priv: 4,041,576
    Priv Pk: 7,109,352
So it looks like VM is really 33GB. So I tried to run the same dump again manually when I was using the computer, because I never get out of memory dialog when I actually use my laptop and I got total size of used VM of 39,035,346 KB
However the task manager says only 7.6 GB of virtual memory is used and like I said I never get out of memory error when I actually use the laptop.
    Task manager screenshot here: http://goo.gl/20lyjA
I've never had this problem until I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 through Windows Store. Now I see the out of memory error every morning when I come back to my laptop.
Any ideas how to solve those memory issues when my laptop is idle?
    UPDATE:
I just found out that it only happens when I have a monitor plugged into the DisplayPort (even though the monitor is turned off). My laptop has Core i5 3210M with the latest graphics drivers installed (10.18.10.3496)

Today I killed Chrome for the night but the result is the same
Also Windows Defender didn't find anything.

  • Google Chrome killed Firefox. I uninstalled Chrome. How can I get Firefox back. Reinstalling doesn't do it.

I was using Firefox as my primary browser. After I installed Google Chrome, I could no longer open Firefox. It would appear to open, but immediately disappear. I reinstalled Firefox, but it did not solve the problem. I like Firefox; so I uninstalled Chrome. Now I cannot use either Chrome or Firefox. I simply get a blank window when I try to activate firefox. I have had to revert to IE in order to browse; however, I prefer Firefox. How do I resolve this problem?

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have the same problem as abudya. When I try to launch iTunes, it crashes right away. I get a message saying "iTunes quit unexpectantly"  I will post the entire message  below. I restarted the computer in safe mode, and tried to launch iTunes. It did not open. I restarted the Mac in normal function, and iTunes still didn't work.
    Can you help?

Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or  Chrome.
Be aware, Apple no longer support Snow Leopard v10.6 >  www.ibtimes.com/apple-kills-snow-leopard-os-x-106-no-longer-receives-security-u pdates-1558393
See if your Mac can run v10.9 Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
If so, you can download and install Mavericks for free from the App Store.

  • Will baby oil kill macbook pro? It is still working and I do not know if I should do anything orr just pray?

In a bedroom accident, the wife and I spilled baby oil into my MacBook Pro. (let the jokes begin)
Amazingly, it still works fine. I know that is a scented mineral oil and that it is not too conductive.
I took it to our local apple dealer, who said it only has a month to live. While I never thought it would even start, I am now wondering if he was right.
Would you please address the folowiing questions
    1. Should I do anything? if so, what?
    2. Should I expect it to continue to live?
    3. Is there any REAL danger other than killing the computer?
I have already backed up data, and am draining tthe oil to the best of myy ability.

Surprisingly enough, a popular project is for people to make systems completely submerged in mineral oil.  It is a very poor conductor:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=mineral+oil+computer&sugexp=chrome,mod=9&sourceid =chrome&ie=UTF-8
The problem is that those systems are designed to remain in the oil.  Once you get something like oil on a system that's used in a more traditional sense, you can expect dust and other contaminants to build up quickly.  There's not really much you can do to prevent that.  Over time, that build up can result in cooling or other issues.  If it gets in fans or other moving parts, over time, build up can cause them to fail as well.

  • Webpages intermittently stop loading, it is as if there is no longer any internet connection, however internet is fine because Chrome and IE can display pages.

Webpages will simply stop loading, the connecting logo spins as if it is trying to connect but nothing ever loads. Even after closing Firefox, the firefox process in task manager will not disappear by itself and has to be deleted manually, until it is deleted, Firefox cannot be loaded. Other browsers (Chrome & IE) continue to load pages fine when this happens.
This problem has been going on for a while now but getting gradually worse. I am now at the stage where webpages will stop loading after about 10-15 mins. The problem appears to only happen when I have visited a page that requires the flash plugin to work. After reading other related entries in this support forum, I can safely say that I think Flash is the problem. Whenever the plugin is disable the problem never happens. Flash also appears in the crash reports from FF. See below for my system stats.
    Windows 7 64 Bit
    FF24
Flash = 11.8.800.168 with hardware acceleration turned off
    Flash Protected mode = 0
Number of net connections in FF = 64 (same problem occurs with 256 or 48 connections)
Virus Killer = Bit Defender (Firefox is registered as an exception). Problem happens even with virus software disabled.
Computer is certified clean of malware, spyware and viruses.
I can see that this is a reoccurring problem that seems to pop-up with different FF versions.
I have tried all of the suggested solutions on other posts, including various types of full reinstall but to no avail.
Finally, I am not prepared to reinstall Windows over this so please do not bother offering this as a solution, furthermore, I am not prepared to downgrade my Flash to a less safe version, especially when other browsers can work with Flash with no problems.
I look forward to hearing a solution.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Acrobat 9.0 Pro Help and Chrome problem

I am running Acrobat 9.4.2. Everything was working fine until Chrome was installed as part of Google Earth. Even so, Chrome is *not* the default browser (IE is).
The problem is the following: clicking on the Acrobat Help from within an open PDF document brings up the Acrobat Help within a Chrome window (in fact the usual links on the left pane are missing), even though Chrome is not the default browser (the Acrobar Help is an html file). The Acrobat Help used to show up in a IE window. Unistalling Chrome kills the help functionality altogether: clinking on the Help brings up nothing.
How do I restore the functionality, without having Chrome installed?
    Thanks

    Hello Bernd,
unfortunately, repair did not fix the problem.
Incidentally, there are others who have reported identical problems with the Help of other Adobe applications. The common denominator has been the installation of Chrome, which seems to be "hijacking" the Help.
I have Photoshop and Distiller installed, and both have the same problem with the Help. Unless Chrome is installed the help.html will not show up.
... would appreciate any pointers ...
    Thanks
    Loukas
