Lumia 520 question

Hi, i have to questions about operating the lumia 520: on the second screen where all the apps are listed , suddenly the apps are shown with the starting letter above them, how can i switch that off? when i fisrt started the phone the apps werent devided, i had only the magnifying glass with whon i could search.Now when i am tapping on a letter i get all letters shown on the screen.
#i have linked my facebook acount to the messages thead and i can not send pictures or file or videos on the chat, jsut the location.can i do something about that so i can send pictures in the cahat?

To partly answer your query.. once the No. of Items in the 'Applications' list exceeds 40 it will start showing up the Starting letters. Once auto enabled there is no setting to disable it except Resetting the device. But why do you want it to be removed ? Once you get used to it, its very convenient to search an item quickly ..

1.You can't save contacts to SIM
2.You can only store Media Files and Maps data (using THIS application) on the SD Card
3.Go to the 'people' hub and tap (...) at the bottom -->settings-->filter my contact list ..and uncheck 'Facebook'

Lumia 520 wifi reception

Hey guys,I have become a great hater of Lumia 520...i only wish I didn't buy it.its said I can only update my phone os through WiFi connection...but every time I connect the farthest it downloads is 13%..then either restarts the whole process again.not to mention that the 13% it goes takes an hour.ill say pole deserve options,if I can afford to update through mobile data I should be able to do so,and if Nokia did so much care they could also have made it possible to download via PC and use USB cable to update.i hate it when I buy stuff with my little cash then someone makes decision on how to do what I want to do.lastly..nokia back then in the good days was the fone everyone used.u ddnt need to mention the brand only the make like say...3310,1100,etc.what happened,that young green smaller companies are making user friendly phones that fly off the shelf?like say,huawei,bird,etc...ill tell you,Nokia chose to use windows os while other bright brands go android,I wish's there was a way to change to android.i am greatly dissapointed and I'm having a hard time not to smash it on the wall.can someone from Nokia reply to me or I go on rampage on my blogs discrediting this piece of wood.i may not achieve much but I'll make sure whoever sees this dsnt fall where I fell .********@live.com.

Nokia Lumia 520 in Moldova

I want to buy a Nokia Lumia 520 here in the UK to give to someone living in Moldova, next to Romania. Is there any reason the person cannot use it in Moldova, in the same way as she can in the UK, where it was bought? I know that the mobile phone warranty does not cover Moldova, outside of the EU. Hey, Apart from the warranty I would like to provide you with this information which I have found on internet for you.
See every mobile device works on some frequency bands and that need to be present in mobile to work in a particular region , it may support one or more than one band. As per Nokia UK website Lumia 520 supports
WCDMA network: 900 MHz, 2100 MHz (this is 3G frequency)
GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz (this is 2G frequency)
1. Now UK frequency bands where you live are:
2G capabilities GSM 900, GSM 1800
3G capabilities UMTS 900, UMTS 2100
4G capabilities LTE 800, LTE 1800, LTE 2600
So Lumia 520 in your region support 2G and 3G
2. Now Mandova frequency bands where the mobile device will be operational:
2G capabilities GSM 900
3G capabilities UMTS 2100
4G capabilities LTE 2600
So Lumia 520 of UK should work atleast for 2G at GSM 900 frequency and 3G at UMTS 2100.

Lumia 520 "Remote wipe of user data via Internet"

I'm interested in purchasing a Lumia 520 and read on the spec site that it can do "Remote wipe of user data via Internet" (http://www.nokia.com/in-en/phones/phone/lumia-520/specifications/).
Is there any special software that I need to be able to do this (like have it connected to a BlackBerry server in the case of enterprise BlackBerry devices) or is it as simple as stated on (http://www.noknok.tv/2013/05/02/how-to-find-your-lost-nokia-lumia-running-windows-phone-8/) where all you have to do is log into windowsphone.com where you can erase a linked phone?
This phone will be used for business so in case it is lost I need the ability te remote wipe it. Our company currently has a BB server and we all have BB devices, but with BB not doing so well I was thinking of getting a Nokia.

If there's no data connection, windowsphone.com cannot access your phone to send push notifications and if push notifications fail, then it will try to send SMS to your phone.
I just tried to ring my phone after taking out the SIM card, it was connected to wi-fi and I could ring it.

Lumia 520 bricked by Windows Phone Recovery Tool

So I'd installed win10 preview for my lumia 520 and it was not good enough for my daily using and i tried to downgrad it. there was an instruction after starting to flash that hol power key and volume - for 3 or 15 seconds and when you felt vibration hit the button to start the process...
i'd tried it but my phone didnt restart...even i hod them for about 2minutes but nothing will happen just blank screen.
when i used windows phone recovery it find my phone but it shows an error that restart your phone and try again
Recovery tool said operation unsuccessful. Red screen with NOKIA written.
what's your suggestion?

Wallpaper Lumia 520

Good afternoon, my name is Bruno, I got a Lumia 520, after the last update Lumia Black, I can not insert my photos or any wallpaper on the main screen to download apps thought could enter them on my smartphone, but accused the application need to upgrade
to windows 8.1, tried the update and the same application, accused the same request, I wonder if some limitation because my device there is the entry model or whether I have to wait for the final update?

Music Player Clarification Lumia 520

I recently got Lumia 520 for my wife, but i'm surprised not to find a "Search" button within the "Music Videos" & "Nokia Music" apps. I'm wondering how how i seach for a specific song within any of above apps?
Sorry if this is stupid question... I'm fairly new to Windows

The separate Music and Video apps replacing the Mucis and videos hub have a search button..
Search for 'Xbox musc' and ' Xbox video' in the store.
These two apps will replace the music hub anyway in the coming Windows Phone 8.1 update. This update also has global search so when you use the search on the startpage (or press the seach button) and enter the songname the phone will find the song on the phone as well as on the internet

Nokia Lumia 520 - Alternative way of locking/unloc...

I've got Nokia Lumia 520 before a week and overall the phone seems really good for my needs, but I found yesterday that the only way to lock/unlock the screen is by using the Power button every time.
My question is: Is there an alternative way of doing this like for example double tapping the touchscreen or by some app that can perform such function?

The 52x hardware does not support the Glace screen functionality. I would guess that in sleep mode the used screen has no power thus would not sense the tap or be able to display the clock. It's a budget phone for a reason..
That said, pressing the power button is the only action to wake up the phone..

I bought a Nokia Lumia 520(IMEI-358106053448414) on 8-8-2013, Bill No.- P/0813/00863 from Limton Pvt Limited-13 & 14 B.B.D Bag, Kolkata-700001, Mob: 9830111191
2 Months ago i have given the mobile for Amber Software Update at Nokia Care near my house, Satya Telecare, 229 Chittaranjan Avenue, Kolkata - 700006 Mob:9831823566,9831313307.
All was fine till 2 Days ago dated 17/12/13, my phone stopped taking charge then i went to a Nokia Care near my friend's home at 81A , S P Mukherjee Road, Kolkata-700026, Phone : 9831548088, they inspected my phone and after some time a guy came out and said my phone has been opened before and it is tampered, so your warranty is void!
You will have to pay 1000rs repairing charge for it. As my phone is in new condition and in warranty, there is no question of repairing my phone outside Nokia Care, i m in a fix right now!
I will be complaining to Consumer Forum(www.wbconsumers.gov.in) against Both the Nokia Care Centers (where i have given my phone for inspection) & also Nokia India that is you for allowing these dishonest offices of Nokia Care to fool and harass common people.

"I hate neither Windows 8 nor Nokia. But I really do hate their combination - Nokia Lumia 720. I own this phone for more than a month and now I really want to get rid of this. I want to dicuss only the cons of this phone, as all the pros (if there is any) will be ignored with the intensity of the cons.
1. No dedicated folder structure. Nothing like a "Gallery" or "My Files". So there is no question of copying files from one folder to another because there is no folder at all.
2. Its true than you can use a external memory card. But the only action you can perform on the files in your memory card is delete. No copy , paste or even "Rename". If you have to do any of these you have to connect the phone to a Computer.
3. Yes, Bluetooth is there. But you cannot rename your bluetooth. Ok fine. What is there in a name! But what happens to the files you recieve via bluetooth. If you are lucky, you will find them in your "Saved Pictures" . But in most the cases you wont see your recieved files at all.
4. You cant download a video file. Its true that there are you tube downloader applications. But you can view these videos only within these apllications . You cant save them to your SD card. Some may ask what is the big issue in it. But guys, these video applications use the phone's internal storage memory and eventually the phone begins to hang.
5. The most funny thing I found in this phone is "File multiplication". Suppose you took a photograph or downlaoded a music file today. Tommorrow you can see 2 copies
of it in your phone. The next day 3, then 4 and so on. But if you delete any one of these, all will be gone Dont think that any virus has affected my phone. Bacuse form day 1 its so.
(Combining points 4 and 5 together and a previous comment. Somebody said its possible to download videos using UC browser. First thing , UC Browser for windows itself is a piece of **bleep**. It hangs every 1 minute. Second, if you download a video and export it your phone, sometimes it gets exported and sometimes not. If luckily it got exported, it begins to multiply as I said in point 5)
6, The battery. With the internet and all the background tasks OFF, and with no live tiles on the home screen, the maximum time I got with the battery is 11 hours. If i turn all features on, it drains in 5-7 hours.
7. You cannot open the PDF or .txt files present in your SD card. Only those PDF files you download via internet can be opened. Again you cannot PDFs you download in your SD card.
8. Applications can be saved to phone only, not in SD card.
9. I still dont know what is happening to my internal memory and what is occupying it. Anyway its full now. And only thing I could do is to uninstall the present applications.
10. These comments are from my experience for more than a month. Today I dont have this phone to experience not bacause I sold it, but because its dead now. For any other phone you can try removing the battery, re-inserting it and restarting. But what can you do with this internal battery?????
Again I want to tell you an awkward experience with this phone. I am a techie and has a habit of listening to music while coding. One day in office, I connected the Nokia headset and started the music. But music was playing via loudspeaker only. It was not recognizing the headset at all. I tried to stop the music. But none of the keys worked, Not the pause button, not the volume keys, not the back button. I tried to switch the phone off. But it didnt work either. I had to cover the loudspeaker with my fingertip for about 10 minutes helpless and suddenly the phone switched off. With relief I removed my fingertips and I couldnt believe what happened . Music was still being played from the Switched Off phone. Again for the next 2-3 minutes I had to cover the loudspeaker before the music stopped. I switched it ON again only after reaching home. If I had sold the phone that day itself. I wouldno have to keep a dead phone now in my hands."

it would help if you expound a bit, and give a little more background of the problem. given limited info, i suppose you take pics by tapping onscreen? ..in that case, maybe you're just not pressing the button well enough. when you press the camera button (halfpress), it should focus... then press deeper, it will take the pic.
its a long shot, but do you have a silicon case on your fone? i used to have the same problem before.. it was a bit hard to operate and 'feel' the button's accuracy with that protective rubber case on.
on a totally different point of view... are you talking about waking your fone up with the camera button when it's locked?
again, its hard to get a specific answer if one does not actually see / test the unit, let alone a vague question.

Lumia 520, message storage?

Hi there,
I am thinking of getting a Lumia 520 ,but a rather strange question I have is, around how many messages can the phone store at any one time? I do a lot of texting throughout the day, my current phone holds about 1000 messages, but I find that its just a pain having to sort through all those messages to delete them (yes I know, I could just delete them all ). I am looking for a...cheapish but yet decent and tough phone, that can withstand a few minor bangs etc.
I mostly use my current phone for texting,and photos which is about it but as Im upgrading, I would like to get a phone that has a decent camera (my current, has a 2MP I think it is), good for checking emails on, perhaps playing games, checking things up on google etc. Would this be a good phone for me does anyone think? or would another suit my needs better?

Nokia Lumia 520 problem with internet

My girlfriend bought today a nokia lumia 520 from an internet shop.
Now she is installing it and it seems to have a problem.
So our netwerk is 'telenet' where we have an abo wich include 1gb internet.
She installed everything like it has to, APN and stuff all ok.
Now she cannot connect to the 3 or 2g netwerk on her phone, it keeps saying we have to put 'roaming' on.
If we do this, the internet goes, but i dont think that is how its supposed, maybe she will have to pay a lot if she does roaming. While we actually dont need it.
Can you help us with this problem?
