Mac AND PC access supported?

I have an odd request... We have both Macs and PCs that need to access a networked drive of images (many images). I know that Lightroom runs in both operating systems. My question is this: if a person using a Mac creates keywords for these thousands of images, can a different person using, say, a Windows machine search the images using the keywords that the Mac tagged the images with? We need, basically, a searchable database of images that multiple machines can access.
If Lightroom cannot do this, do you have suggestions for software that can?

Can I move 2TB internal HD from old mac to new mac and still access files

I just upgraded to a new Mac Pro, we have an old G5 Ma Pro thats getting retired. In the old G5 we have an internal 2TB WD drive with all of our customer art files.

But I would clone / backup / off load all the files (2x to be safe) and then reformat the drive to new GPT format.
Your G5 PowerMac and Mac Pro carry different names, a Mac Pro is Intel-only.
So I'd pick up at least another 2TB WD Black as a minimum, or maybe you already have backups of those files already.
Your old system of course isn't compatible and should not be installed until reformatted; clean install and update everything, and you will be "stuck" with 10.6.6 as the minimum build (hopefully most things are compatible now).

General inquiry - Why ar .Mac and publishing/accessing iWeb sites so slow??

I do realize that that general topic has been addressed somehow many times, in whole or in parts. I am just shooting for a general update on the subject(s).
I have grown fond of iWeb and just renewed my .Mac subscription. I am also a user of Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I just find the iWeb/.Mac combination so straight forward and... irresistible fun to play with!
BUT, before i commit more to that environment, I need to know - again:
1. Why is .Mac/iDisk so slow in access?
2. Correspondingly, publishing to .Mac and iDisk is slow. Why, actually?
3. Difficulties in accessing iWeb sites published to .Mac/iDisk when using InternetExplorer (which, whether we want it or not, IS the predominant browser out there...). We know Firefox is better at it.
4. Ultimately, would publishing iWeb sites to other servers (I have a couple of non-iWeb websites currently hosted elsewhere) make publishing AND accessing such sites speedier?
I will appreciate any advice, input, assessment.

I think it's because it's more a social server with a lot of server side features available for .Mac users and iLife applications. Therefore there's a fair amount of server work when users use it for email, web sites with slideshows, backing up, etc. A commercial server will be much faster. There are othesr here that know more about servers than I and can give you a more technical explanation. But you're right, it is slow but convenient.

Formatting external Hard Drive for Mac and PC Access

I have a USB External HD by Seagate that I want to add to my Airport Extreme BS that creates my LAN for a Mac PB, WinXP laptop and HP OfficeJet printer. The disk is currently formatted as NTFS and I don't think a Mac can read that. My HD manufacturer (Seagate) told me 1) FAT32 is unstable for PC and/or Mac usage and 2) my 300GB Pushbutton HD (3 years old) "will not work" on a LAN.
I think both issues are BS as they now have the Maxtor "network HDs" to sell. Any truth to this??
Second question: Seagate forums suggested that I format HD to FAT32 or Mac format and then buy "MacDrive" software so the PC can read/write to the drive. Same question: BS or truth.

I have a USB HD that came out of the box formatted as FAT32- both my MacBook Pro and PC laptop can read & write to it just fine. I haven't had it long enough to comment on stability, but haven't had any issues yet. I don't have any special software on the PC, either- I think the info from the Seagate forums sounds like people remembering the "old days" of Windows 98 and pre-OS X systems, when you did need software like that for true cross-platform drive access.
As for the drive not working on a LAN- well, the hardware doesn't know the difference, so as long as it's connected via USB to the AEBS, it's fine. What could cause an issue would be your PC OS version. I have found WinXP to be really good (well, for a Win OS, anyway) at playing nice with others. Vista is a train wreck for many, many reasons, but may be OK for this too. Anything earlier than XP may be a bit more troublesome.

Active X controls are not used in Firefox they are used by Internet Explorer.

Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

You could try the following:
* Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
* Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

I need a little help accessing my mail on my mac and my iphone 4s after changing my password on Yahoo as someone hacked my account. I can't get mail, I just get Password error every time :(

A little stumped for what to do here... I had my Yahoo hacked, changed my yahoo password (Yahoo is the account configured to 'mail' on both my mac and iphone)... however since changing my password I have found I can't access my mail on either with out it asking me to enter my password. When I do, it say's 'Password error'. Sometimes it re-directs me to the actual 'Yahoo' browser saying I need to verify my account, but basically I can't use the mail function on either device now! I know you may suggest deleting the account and re-installing it to each device and I feel this would probably work as well but (and this is the tricky bit)... all my NOTES are configured through Yahoo, only some are through icloud (which is odd). All notes are about 201, icloud about 77 and the rest on Yahoo and when I go to delete the account it says it will also delete all my notes :/ Now, I am a bit of a writer, and these notes are pretty sacred to me so losing them isn't an option. I don't want to lose them. Is there anything any one of you lovely peeps can suggest. It would be much appreciated.

Yes, you have encountered Activation Lock (Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support). The only way that phone will ever be usable is if the owner the phone is locked to releases it (see: Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account - Apple Support). If you are lucky the phone is locked to the seller, so you can ask them to unlock it. If the seller is merely a middleman and the previous owner is not the seller it gets much more complicated. It's even possible that you bought a stolen phone, in which case you will never be able to use it and you should return it for a refund.

Hi,
I want to make a gallery on my homepage but I get a message telling me I have to pay for the service. I have already subscribed for a year, punched in a username and password but apparently this is different from my Apple ID and therefore it is recognised as 'someone elses' .Mac account and not my own. How do I tell my Mac I have access so I can use the facility?

I don't quite understand. Have you forgotten what you entered for your .Mac ID and password? Or is the .Mac ID just not working with iPhoto6, but works for other things, like mounting your iDisk or logging in at mac.com?

(An Apple ID is not necessarily the same thing as a .Mac ID, since an Apple ID can be ANY email address. A .Mac ID can be also used as an Apple ID, though.)

I assume you would like to:
1. Able to access a share in company from anywhere.
2. Above to use a server from anywhere.
3. Above to use a server in your company from anywhere.
If I'm correct, the solution is Could products or Remote Desktop Service with VPN.

As for Aperture, you'll need to do a search on the support website yourself because the result is a download so I couldn't post a link - the instructions are in the user manual. I believe the settings are within Aperture's Preferences.

Access wireless pc from a Mac - and both to internet

From home, I need to access my web server at work through my new pc laptop. But, I want to use my G5 iMac's big screen. I'm aware of MS Remote Desktop which allows me to access my pc from my iMac. But, I'm not sure how to set everything up so that I can
- Use the same internet connection (yahoo/pacbell) for both the pc and the mac.
- Use my pc laptop from the patio about 15-20 feet from my mac and internet connection/box.
Do I need Airport? Use Bluetooth? Network the two computers? Can I use the same internet connection to call up the pc from my mac using MS Remote Desktop, and if so, how do I at the same time access keep my pc laptop? wireless? (Yes, I'm pretty ignorant about this.) Use Windows XP/ OS X 10.4.9
P.S. My employer only supports pc's, not macs, and they purchased the pc laptop for me. So, getting a new Mac and using Bootcamp was not an option. And Bootcamp doesn't work on my current G5 mac. I must connect to the web server with a pc because I have to map a drive from a pc to access the web server -- they've set it up so that we cannot access the server through a Mac without using Bootcamp and Windows.

You haven't mentioned that you have a router, which you'll need first to connect both your Windows and Mac computers to the Internet at the same time.
Next, you need to work with your employer to get your Windows laptop connected to your server. He most likely has a router on his end, which means your server is not directly connected to the Internet for you to access. He will have to "port forward" port number 3389 to the server. This will direct all incoming RDC traffic to your server so that you can connect. (NOTE: Remote Web Workspace, aka RWW, will not work with Macs.)
These are the two basic things you need to do. Your setup may require more steps.
