Mac App Store error message

Hello. I've successfully purchased a number of apps through the App Store and app updates are installing just fine... but... when I click on the UPDATE buton for OS X Lion (I purchased it), one of two things happens:
1. I get an error message saying "An error has occurred" and it doesn't update.
2. I get back a message indicating that it was purchased under a different Apple ID, but I know for a FACT that I have used one and only one Apple ID for all Mac App Store and iTunes Store purchases.
It's odd that OS X Lion successfully updated from 10.7.0 to 10.7.1, but the installer won't update.
Suggestions? Ideas?

I've had numerous issues with the app store myself.  Purchased a new macbook air three days ago and set it up with a brand new app id, I don't buy stuff from the app store but you pretty much must have an id.  It tells me that I should update iPhoto and iMovie, so I click on there to update them and get the same error message as you, telling me that the apps are under a different account.
Bam out of luck, been round and round with email support.  They indicated in the last email that Apple is aware of the issue at least.

How do I fix this problem on OS Mavericks 10.9.4?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mac App Store Error 18 in brand new iMac, doesn't allow me to update Mountain Lion, iPhoto and iMovie.

    Hi there,
When I try to update iMovie, iPhoto and Mountain Lion I get this error: "Error in the App Store. Try again later. (18)".
Just wanted to know if anybody had the same Error from Mac App Store as I've been searching in the Apple Support Communities and other websites but haven't been able to find any solutions to the problem.
I have a new iMac 21 inch running Mountain Lion, I received it a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi,
I tried to update them all together and also separately but just couldn't be done.
I don't remember having accepted anything regarding iLife apps during the iMac set up to be honest.
I still haven't tried any of the iLife apps, but why would this matter?
I should be able to update without any problem and still get the same "Error in the App Store. Try again later. (18).
I just saw this other post and it looks exactly the same problem as I have, but nobody seems to know how to solve it either:

  • Mac app store error when downloading small apps

The mac app store fails to download any app that is 1-7 mb in size. But it works fine with large app downloads

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store could prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app could be "Final Cut Pro." Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    3. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
    4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
    5. Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • App store error message "could not sign in" "an unknown error has occurred"

has anyone else gotten this message when trying to sign into the app store:
"could not sign in" "an unknown error has occurred"
i know my password is correct, i signed in on my macbook and on my imac and no issue there.
i called apple and they coulnd't figure out what it is, i reset my network settings and same thing. of course i can't do a restore because i'm at work and we don't have the new lighting cords here for me to hook up to my imac

I experienced this problem, too -- and with the help of an Apple support rep, figured out a way out.
Go into Settings and turn off automatic date and time, and set your phone back a year. Then go back and turn automating date and time back on, to get back to the present. Now go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores, click on your AppleID, and re-enter it and your password. Finally, go back to the App Store (or iTunes Store) and try to download what you had been trying before -- and if you're like me, it will now pop up with a new set of Terms and Conditions for you to approve. After you approve, you'll be able to download whatever you had been trying to.
It appeared, in my case, that Apple needed to present me with a new Terms & Conditions to approve, but for some reason, iOS 6 and the Apple mother ship weren't communicating correctly about how to do that, and I was stuck with the "Could Not Sign In" message. Changing the iPhone's time and/or re-signing in via Settings > iTunes & App Stores resolved the roadblock for some reason. Hope this works for others as well!

I'm getting the same error here when trying to purchase from app store this morning (error 100). I have done the whole restart mac, log out as suggested by apple.support and other forums etc... Perhaps it's a server problem? 2013 Retina 15 mbp 10.8.4.
