Mac book 1.83 vs 2.0 Ghz

Hi Everybody
I am up to upgrade from a 1.2Ghz iBook to a Mac Book (considering a configuration with 1Gb Ram and 80Gb HD, however I am clueless about the 1.83 and 2.0 version. Please note that I do already have a La Cie external firewire dvd burner (I read lots of complaints about the superdrive) so basically my question is:
Is the 2.0Ghz processor worth the money difference compared to the 1.83Ghz in terms of performance? Those 0.17Ghz do make any difference worth purchasing?
Thanx to all of you for any feedback

I would say that if you already have a DVD burner, the performance difference probably isn't worth the extra $200. I'm in a similar situation in that I rarely use a DVD burner, and have access to a burner when I do need one. Thus I went with the 1.83 version, and this puppy still flies compared to other laptops I've used.
I would suggest you upgrade the RAM, however. Right now I've still got the stock RAM and I've seen the performance get a little sticky when I'm doing a lot on it. I plan on upgrading the RAM soon. An option I'm considering is buying a 1GB stick and then buying the second matched stick later on. You'll sacrifice some performance in the interim, but you gain a little flexibility. I'm guessing that with 1.25 GB the performance will be roughly equivalent to what it'd be with a pair of matched 512s (though I haven't seen any benchmarks, this is just a gut feeling; if anyone has seen benchmarks please let me know!), which is probably enough for anything I do anyway. But it's nice to know I can update to 2 gigs if I ever need (or want) to.

  • Logic broken, mac book pro 15", i7 2.2 ghz, 8 Gb RAM - Later 2011

    I have a mac book pro 15", i7 2.2 ghz, 8 Gb RAM - Later 2011
I have the same problem many users who purchased this model.
He broke his logic. Due to the large number of people with the same problem, I consult if Apple has a solution to meet Apple loyal customers.
Remember the high cost of purchased equipment.
Thank you very much for your time.
    regards
    rafael martino

    Rafael,
no, Apple has not acknowledged a problem with the 15-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pro in a similar way to how they had acknowledged a problem with the 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. Because of this, unless you have an alternative means of legal redress, you would need to pay for a replacement logic board.

  • Mac Book Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz, HDD upgrade

    Hello,
I would like to change the hard drive of my MacBook Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz.
I would like to go fo an SSD Drive. I checked and find out that the kingston have got a good price.
There is something that is quite annoying me though, they propose model with Serial ATA III and serial ATA II. I tought Serial ATA III was compatible with older technology. So my questions are:
Why do they propose two versions (especially when the SATA II version is more expensive) ?
Will a SATA III SSD will work in my old macbook ? any idea of the perf ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards,
    Julien

Before 2009, all SATA Macs only supported 1.5 Gbps SATA.
Starting in 2010 they started supporting higher speed SATA.
During 2009, Apple provided firmeware updates for 2009 models that didn't support higher speed SATA to support it. That said, many SATA drives offer a jumper to slow down the bus speed so older machines can support them. Until the unibody models, only the 17" MacBook Pro supported higher than 9.5mm drive heights..
If the drive in question has to be thinner, naturally it might cost more because of the shrinking of components..
Slower speed SATA drives are becoming less common, thus can become more expensive as supply is outweighed by demand.
Before you jump the SSD bandwagon, remember, there is no technology that can totally wipe the drive,  unlike with platter drives.  If your machine is sold in the future, be sure not to put any personally identifying data on it, once you switch to SSD, unless they erasing technology improves. .

  • Is normal in the mac book pro with the retina make fan noise al the time ?

Is normal that the new macbook pro with retina make fan noise all the time?

    Hi everyone.
I just bought an mac book pro retina , 15 inches , 2 GHz, Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3. I'm a programmer , so, I really don't give to the mac book an exhaustive use, so the performance of the machine is good for me. But recently , I discovery some kind of issue : a noise fan when I reproduce a video from Internet, in full screen mode.
I download the iStatus Menus program for mac, to has a complete dashboard of the situation , and I got this :
    1) When recently start the mac book, the statistics are
All in order, the revolutions of the fan are OK, no fan noise at all.
But , just opened a video in full screen , a few seconds after opened start it, the machine increase the temperature from (normal) 40° to 98° (so high), and the statistics change dramatically , as follow :
As you can see, the fan revolution increase 3x , from  2000 to 6000 . The use of Google Helper increase over 200% . And obviously the noise fan make me crazy,
I've only seen this "issue" on that scenario, ( internet video full screen reproduction ). That's not happen , even when many applications are open.
Should I worry about this ?,  or, this is a normal behaviour on the machine ?.
I'll appreciate any advice or answer.
    Kindly regards.

  • Mac Book Pro 17-inch Mid-2010 memory compatibility

I have a Mac Book Pro 17-inch, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1066 MHz DD3 RAM. The RAM consists of two 4GB modules. I was just wondering if I can upgrade the RAM by putting DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz SO-DIMM PC laptop memory module RAM. Will it work?

Buying RAM off eBay is probally the worst thing you can do.
Not only that, it's some off name brand RAM made for PC's, so it's likely to cause issues or fail in the Mac, which the seller might not respond for a exchange or refund.
Inexpensive RAM is usually lower quality and more prone to not working but might so it's pawned off to third party resellers to appeal to the cheap crowd willing to work more to get their machines running.
Opening up the MacBook Pro is delicate work with fine screws that need to go back into each exact hole they came out of. The more you have to open it, the more potential damage can occur that is not covered by AppleCare or warranty.
If you want perfect RAM the first time, without having to keep trying over and over which costs you more money and headaches, buy the RAM directly from the manufactor here
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
When your looking at the RAM approved and tested to work for your machine, you can opt to spend more for the higher speed RAM however it will only work as fast as your BUS speed (aka: "Mhz") of the machine.
Benefit of the faster RAM is it will max the bus speed, whereas the matched speed spec-ed RAM can be a bit slower than the bus speed.
If your not into serious performance of the machine, then just opt for the most used spec-ed RAM speed.

  • Mac Book Pro Won't Print to Epson CX8400

We have a new Mac Book Pro, 17 inch, 2.66 GHz, 4GB, Mac OS 10.5.6. We set up my son's Epson CX8400 All-In-One printer. All the drivers loaded without issue. When we try to print, the printer feeds paper until there are no more sheets in the feeder and nothing is printed.

  • Gaming in mac book pro 7.1--Call of Duty

    Hi Guys,
i'm using a mac book pro 7.1 (2.4 GHz, 4 GB of RAM).
    I don't know why when i play with call of duty modern warfare 2 (MAC USE ONLY) the mac is very slowly!;
the entire visual move from left to right, up and down, continuosly: this is a very bad way to play with a MAC!.
Ehi someone, solve my problem please!.
I have not bought with many money the mac in order to play in this way!.
    Bye.
    M

You purchased the wrong MacBook Pro if gaming is your thing. The simple fact is that MacBook Pro's are not designed as gaming machines, per se, and your model...a 13" with integrated graphics...no dedicated GPU...is a poor choice for graphic intensive games. There is nothing you can do to change this fact, other than not running anything but the game & lowering the game's settings.

  • Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

  • I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion? to use icloud.

Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again.
Apple say I must have a Intel Core 2 processor for Lion to work...... at least I think that's what they say.
I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion?

    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
If you have a Core Duo model then you cannot upgrade to Lion. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Look for the Model ID in the displayed information. If you have a MacBookPro 2,1 or later then you have a Core 2 Duo model and can upgrade to Lion.

Bonjour!

Hello  I use mac book 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo.Is it worth updating to latest version like snow leopard and then Lion or buying new mac air?
    regards
    Clayton.

Well, it depends on what you expect it to do and if it works as expected - it that answer is yes, I'd say make sure you max out the RAM (I've noticed Snow Leopard needs more). Doing it this way gives you a machine which will run 2 different OS versions - on the other hand, depending on when you'd buy the MBA, you may only be able to run Lion (unless you buy that quickly as well while they still come with SL).
