Can i connect a Mac Book Air (mid 2013 thunderbolt) to a 30 inch 2560x1600 display? with the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
or is it simpler than that? as the monitor has dual link DVI & HDMI 1.4

  • Mac book air mid 2013, warms to approx 65 degrees when in sleep mode for 2 to 3 hrs?

    Hello,
I have recently noticed that my macbook air mid 2013 warms up to approx 65 degs when in sleep mode for 2 hours or when I am doing my normal work. I am running Mevricks and I also use a moshi key board cover. Is it a cause of concern??

The keys without covers already transfer to a small degree finger oil to the LCD screen of the Air, even the thinnest keyboard covers place pressure on the LCD, however normally this would have no bearing unless stowed away in a pack with pressure, nevertheless causing dirt and oils is increased with covers to transfer more to the LCD, ....Macbook Air as well.
Beware of keyboard covers and using same
Beware of using thick keyboard covers on your Macbook, some pretty ones sold online are rather thick and upon closing your monitor, touch the screen and transfer more finger/hand oil to the LCD but at worst press excessively on the LCD display, especially in the case of the Air and newest Macbook Pro Retina. There is ultimately very little purposeful use of these keyboard covers if you keep your hands clean, additionally they do not protect against spills as many people presume they do; directly yes, but at the edges no. They also making typing a more challenging experience and run a fine line between 'serves no purpose' and 'possibly damaging'.
Screen covers protect against nothing and place an unwanted layer between the LCD and viewing, additionally if you dont touch same or dont have any pets that might claw at the screen there is no logical reason to have a screen shield.
dust will accumulate regardless.    Realistically what are you trying to protect the screen from.  The back is solid aluminum alloy, the front LCD viewing screen should never be intentionally touched.
outside of a sneeze or some debris which an extremely lightly damp cloth can remove, all else is dust. ...
Use a soft paintbrush or makeup brush for cleaning
One very useful tool for cleaning dust from the LCD screen, the hinge area of your notebook and around the keyboard, is a very soft inexpensive small paintbrush or a makeup brush. The less you wipe your LCD screen with anything like a cloth, the better. This small brush is very handy, quick, and ideal for removing dust from around and on your notebook.

  • I recently bought a mac book air (mid 2013) and the power adapter that came with it does not fit into the port.

The port has a small silver knob next to the pins that is preventing the adapter from connecting. I've never seen a port that looks like this and the tech specs say that the port should be a magsafe 2.  Has anyone seen anything like this before? I've included a picture

Can you connect via thunderbolt a mac book air 13" (2013) and a imac 21" (2013) together, using the iMac 21" as a 2nd screen

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. As both have Thunderbolt, it's as simple as buying a Thunderbolt cable, connect them and press Command and F2 keys on the iMac, so the iMac will be used as an external display for the MacBook Air. If you want more information, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302

  • Do I need to buy a licensed copy of windows 7 or 8 to install it on mac book air/pro 2013?

I am planning to buy Mac Pro 2013 Retina display 13" and I need to know if I have to buy a windows 7 licensed software to install it on my Mac or does it come with boot camp? Also I would like to know if the windows I run on boot camp will be able to support software like AutoCAD Electrical, Quartus, LabVIEW and NI Elvis, Multisim. Since I am a student studying Electrical engineering I want to know if these softwares are available for students to run on Mac OS instead?

For each of the software you want to run on a Mac via Bootcamp, you also need to consider support aspects of each. If it is freeware, you will support it yourself. You should ask AutoCAD and look at system requirements of each to ensure you do not have any issues. Some Windows software requires hard licenses like USB keys, which can run into issues.
For each individual software, you should ask the developers/support for confirmation. In general, Windows via Bootcamp will let you install software that requires Windows.

  • Mac Book Air Mid-2011 Service Battery

I've had the computer for about 2 years now and it just started saying this. I have had no problems with it even with it saying Service Battery. It still holds a decent charge and everything is working just fine. I guess my question is what exactly from the information below is wrong and why is it saying that my battery needs to be serviced?
    Model Information:
      Serial Number:          D86129402FWDKRNAZ

    Jenna,
Hopefully you have the appleCare Protection Plan, if so schedule an appointment with your local Apple Retail Store.
Sounds like the system is detecting the battery is not holding the charge long enough or may be getting weak.
Regardless, I would have the ARS check this oout for you.
    Hope this helps.

I guess the upto date program is only applicable for United States.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Instead of using Ethernet, both Macs have got Thunderbolt. I recommend you to get a Thunderbolt cable and use it to transfer your files. The transfer will be much faster.

My main question is I use parralells and windows 7 for some mapping software I use on my current macbook pro. Will this software be copied across as well or will I need to repurchase it all. Equally the question applies to purchased software such as pages, numbers, ms office for mac etc will they copy across to or will I need to rebuy?
Migration Assistant will ask you what you want to transfer, and one of the folders it will ask you to transfer is Applications. If you tick it, all your applications will be transferred, including Parallels, Pages, Numbers, Office for OS X, etc. You may need to reactivate them. Also, you may have to buy Office again depending on the license you have. Transfer the Documents folder because the Parallels virtual machine is saved there.
I recommend you to transfer your files during the initial setup of the MacBook Air, so you will only have one user > http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupLion.html

Hello quick question, i have a late 2010 model and i am wondering if i can upgrade the battery with the new battery that comes with the new 2011 mac book air. i have been getting 3 hrs of use on my air....
As said above, you have the latest. But the 3 hrs of battery use (I assume the 11" model) seems very low. Reviews all show 5 hrs per spec, or close, with screen at 50% brightness. Unless you're doing something very processor or storage intensive, or have the screen at full brightness, I'd take it to an Apple Store and have them check it out.

  • MAC book air 2013

2013 MAC Book Air I am unable to get the USB to network connector to work. I tried USB3 and USB2 adapters.

Youre using a very slow adaptor if you have a 2013, get a Gigabit adapter, far far faster.

  • I have a mac book air 11". When I boot up connected to the huge Thunderbolt  screen it detects the detects the fact and gives me great quality. now I am travelling away from the scree it boots up, nice picture, then switches to rubbish resolution.

I have a Mac Book air 11". Normally at home I connect this to a large Thuderbolt Screen. When booting up it some times gets confused and offers me a low resolution result, but some plugging and unplugging of the screen fixes this. I assume it sometimes "sees" the big screen and sets the resolition accordingly. Sometimes does not. But now... I am away from big screen and cannot get the Macbook air on its one to deliver anything other than really poor resolution. I ahve done displays and chosen all three - but no better. And I have said Choose the Best ONe... again not luck. Any ideas. I read in back posts this was a problem a few years ago.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I believe you have a failing GPU (aka Video Card). Run AHT and see what it tells you. Do not be afraid to run it up to three times in succession if at first it does not detect an error (sometimes errors that are caused by overheating will not show up until the computer is stressed enough - repeating AHT will do that).
As an aside - the MBA was not designed to take the place of a desktop. If you are powering your MBA by leaving it permanently attached to the thunderbolt port on the monitor you are shortening your battery life.
