My mac books audio stopped working, how can i fix it? New to Mac.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
        Do this twice
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:   "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".
7.Launch iTunes and play a song through headphone and adjust the volume

  • Using Sony Bravia 32" TV as a monter with my mac book colour problem

    Hello,
I have connected my mac book pro 13 to the tv with a genuine apple hdmi cable adaptor and a hdmi cable.
I have mirrored the display in settings and can see the display on my mac on the tv.
The problem is the colour is awful. The colour is overly blue/purple. The greys come out almost a pink.
I also dont seem to have any sound coming out of the tv, and i think this setup should allow it. Do i need to activate the sound like you have to activate the mirror displays?
The tv colour when using sky or watching a dvd are good. The colours on my mac are good. What am i doing wrong?
    Thanks Dave

No. It's video only, as far as I know.
HDMI is audio/video and will work reliably as such between consumer devices (like tv's, dvd players, av receivers) it may also provide audio from a computer to a tv, but it depends on the tv. If the tv has multiple hdmi inputs then try them all, also the adaptor can affect the audio transmission.
All the foregoing assumes that you are going from hdmi to hdmi, if you have a dvi, minidvi or mini displayport it almost certainly won't work, even with an adaptor
Find an audio input on your tv that is active on the hdmi input (if there is one) and connect that to your mac as well as the hdmi, the awful picture may not be fixable.

  • Bug fix for Mac book wireless - problem solved!

Aparantly there is a rather large number of folks out there who've discovered this dillema with wireless not working very well at this point on the Macbook.
Well, I can attest there is one very good solution out there for this issue. This application called Sonar Theater from www.sunray.tv includes a bug fix for the wireless connection issues with Macbook in their latest 1.5 release of Sonar Theater.
I downloaded it, put it into my start up folder and waalaa! problem solved. I've haven't any more issues with dropped wireless since - it's been running constantly for over 2 weeks now.
I haven't even attempted to touch my router configuration - don't need to.

Welcome to the better life of Macs. I am using Sonar Theater too and it's been working very well for me. In fact, I'm getting hooked on just texting a message to my Mac book to fire up user sessions now. I think if you give the Mac Book some time however, you'll find that there really is no comparison to PC's. Your life overall is going to just keep getting better as you dig in to the resources available to new Mac users.
I'm sure it seems confusing to PC users at first, but here's how to set up any application as part of your startup sequence. It really is extremely easy and simple compared to the PC world. Oh and by the way, in reality, Mac users refer to this as your login sequence. So, at login time, you can do a multitude of different things for each user account you might want to set up. Naturally, you can choose to share or not share applications and data between these user accounts on your Mac too....
Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    1. Log in as the user who wishes to have a login item or as an admin user.
    2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    3. Choose Accounts from the View menu.
    4. Click the name of the user.
    5. Click the Startup Items button
    6. Click the "Add {+}" button.
The item you selected will automatically open the next time you log in.

  • Mac Book Pro Problems

I have a problem with my Mac that is reoccurring on a regular basis, Over the last year 2010, Various parts have been replaced such as the hard drive, Screen and another board ? since the hard drive if I run maintenance checks ie repair permissions etc, I'm unable to repair the disc after it displays a message saying it needs to be restarted with the disc and once this and re-install the required software my Pro will run for a week normally but if I repair permissions etc again it tells me that I have to re-install said software yet again.
I know things are slowing down when the pin wheel just starts spinning and I have to wait for my mac to do its thing again, Does anyone have any suggestions

    Geoff:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Over the last year 2010, Various parts have been replaced such as the hard drive, Screen and another board ?
Were these repairs done by Apple or a Apple Certified facility?
if I run maintenance checks ie repair permissions etc, I'm unable to repair the disc after it displays a message saying it needs to be restarted with the disc and once this and re-install the required software my Pro will run for a week normally but if I repair permissions etc again it tells me that I have to re-install said software yet again.
Do you mean you have to keep reinstalling the OS?
    Is it a kernel panic.?
    Try this:
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
    Please post back with results.

  • Mac Mini Audio Problem

    Hi,
My Mac mini is only sending sound to one side of the headphone. I can get sound on the right but no sound on the left. I'm wondering if the sound card might need replacing ???
    Any help would be appreciated.

Actually I'm trying to hook it up to my stereo so I was trouble shooting with the headset as I only get sound from one speaker. The Bose rep suggested I try a head phone to make sure the problem is coming from the mac mini. Is it possible to hook up to a stereo via a usb?(USB to Stereo input cables?) Also do you think that would help? I've tried new head phone to stereo cables between the two and same problem....

  • New Mac mini audio problem - beeping from audio output

    Hi Apple fans
Please help me. I recently purchased a new Mac mini from my local store. It's three-and-a-half weeks old as of today.
It's an i5 2.3 with 8 GB of corsair RAM.
I like to watch movies and TV on it and have the audio connected to an external amp and speakers via the headphone output.
After a reboot today I lost the sound through that output. All that I hear through it now is an electronic beeping, six notes, descending in pitch, repeating.
I have no idea what it is, other than annoying since this happened on a brand new computer. Not looking forward to the idea of losing my mini for a week as Apple figure it out, but it may be all that's left to do.
Maybe somebody here can help me out - anyone have an idea what's going on? I did an fsck -fy already, and there seems to be nothing wrong, based on that check. For completeness sake, I ran the sound over a USB sound card, and the beeping noise was not there, and sound worked fine. Ditto for the internal speaker - no weird noise there, this seems limited to the headphone out port. I've tried different cables, and even amps, and a set of small speakers without amp. The noise is there when using the headphone jack, and it's absent when using the wee internal speaker or USB-based sound. Please help?
I captured the sound on a video which I've uploaded. It's kind of jarring, so keep your hand on the volume button.

Thanks much for any input - it would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Pascal,
Certainly strange, but I have no ideas other than having it looked at by Apple.

  • Starting my mac book pro, PROBLEM...

    Hello there!
When i start my macbook pro with a short click on the start button it begins to work for 2 sec. then interrupts and it's out again. Only by long clicking on the start button i can start mac OS X or vista...
Is this a problem of the firmware because i remeber i had to make a long click during the update of my firmware half a year ago.... but this problem exists since yesterday...
    can anybody help me?

    Glad it worked.
Why did it happen? Lots of things can cause the SMC (which manages power in the system) to become corrupted...you might try to remember what you did between the last time it worked normally and when you noticed the problem.
Check the console logs, there may be a clue there.
At least now if it happens again you have an easy way to correct it.

  • 15" Mac Book Pro Problems When On for more than 2 Hours

I have been using Macs since the original 512, and this is the first time I have had out of the box problems that appear are not related to software issues.
We purchased a 15" 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro the end of August, and very quickly it begain to have issues. After the computer has been on for 2 to 3 hours, its first problem is that it will not print documents from PowerPoint or KeyNote, and it will not save them as a .pdf file. Within another 15 minutes applicaations will begin to quit, or not work correctly, and at that point Safari documents will not print. It will still print Word documents.
If I try to restart the computer, it will just display a blue World Globe, and not restart. However, if I let it sit for 4 or 5 hours, the computer will restart and work perfectly as if nothing were a problem. I have run DiskWarrior on the computer, as well as the OS X drive repair and preference repair, I have defragmented the disc with Speed Tools, and the result is the same. After several hours it begins to have a variety of issues start to crop up, so I am guessing that it might be a defective processor or board? The first time this had happened, I took it in for service, and when I turned it on it worked perfectly, and they could not find anything wrong.
I am missing something or is it time to take it back to the Apple store?
    Thank you for any insights!
    Dudley Bogart

    Michael,
Thank you for your input.  Unfortunately, I did not have this connected to our network, but the very strange issue is the fact that its functions deteriorate after it has been on for a while, and then will miraculously disappear after it has been turned off for several hours!  That just really makes it hard to track down some logical problem, unless it is related to hardware such as a board or processor issue.  Since the computer is not really crashing, there is not really anything interesting showing in the crash logs--it just will not restart right after the deterioration in performance.
I hoped someone else might have seen such anomalies, and could point me in another direction.

  • HT1148 Mac Book Pro Problem

I am getting persistent crashes of software: Chrome, Firefox, Yahoo. What is the problem?

Post a crash report. However, if, as your post suggests, you are using Lion (10.7.4) it might be better to do so in a Lion discussion rather than here in Snow Leopard territory.

  • Mac book and problem after hard drive update!

    Hi
I am new to the forums so please be nice
My friend updated the harddrive on my ibook and i got some discs for Leopard osx so thought I would give it a go, although the discs say imac on them he assured me they would install.
When I try to install it just says it can not be installed on this machine?
Do I have to buy a specific version of leopard?
On the discs it says mac os version 10.5.2, AHT version 3A140?
Thank you any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Everyone,
It is a macbook not ibook, sorry my mistake.
I did not know it would be breaking or violating anything, if so I apologise!!
I will obviously need to buy the software specifically for my macbook is the answer, thank you for all your answers.
If i buy the software do I still have to ask for macbook or is the retail version for any mac machine?
Sorry - I wasn't trying to be harsh. The software on the restore discs is licensed (or should I say licenced) for use on one computer. I think a lot of people might dispose of or sell them after their machines expire or they upgrade to a newer version of OSX.
    This gets really complicated.
There are currently 6 different iterations (all the machines at the same issue date should use the same install version) of the polycarbonate shell MacBook. Each one would require a different set of install discs. Several of these came out before Leopard (10.5) was on the market and the install discs have Tiger (10.4.X). If your machine was of a vintage before Leopard was on the market, you can install using any retail version of Leopard. I have a copy of Leopard with the original 10.5.0 version. The current retail version of Leopard is 10.5.6. This should install on any MacBook which came standard with any version before 10.5.6.
    Are you confused enough now?
If you could identify which iternation of MacBook you have, I think people here could give you a better idea of what your options are for installation of the operating system. You could put your old drive back in, run System Profiler and find out which MacBook version you have. Mine says MacBook 3,1. My guess is that any retail version of Leopard should work since you identified your OS as 10.4.11.
