Mac Book Pro Dead - Completely Unresponsive

First to give a little background info - my Mac Book Pro is 13 months old - I missed the Apple Care Deadline by a week due to a mistake on my part. Upon purchase I received 3 faulty machines prior to this one. I had put the deadline in my calendar based on when I got a functional machine, rather than my purchase date - my fault. I tried to beg Apple Care for mercy a mere 2 days after my actual deadline and just got passed from associate to associate until one would finally just disconnect me. (This happened 3 times).
On to the saga of last night. I'm working at home, running iTunes, Mail, and Photoshop. I'm working on a layout in Photoshop - nothing very taxing on the system at all. The only things connected to the machine were the power adapter and my Wacom tablet. As I was editing a photo, all of a sudden the computer just shut off. There were no beeps, no pops, no cracks, nothing. Just dead, gone, nothingness. I feared the worst immediately due to the no Apple Care. Unfortunately, I fear even more than my initial fears were accurate.
I'm writing this post to see if anyone has experienced anything similar and has come up with a solution. I've searched the forums but don't seem to find anything but the random shut off issue (which this doesn't seem to be as those systems would at least reboot).
So far I've tried:
1) removing the battery, and powering up using only AC power
2) resetting the PMU
3) leaving it over night without power connected and the batter removed and then re-connecting to AC power
Nothing has produced any results at all. Any help/advice is appreciated. I have a feeling that I'm pretty screwed as it seems like a power issue or a fried logic board - neither of which sound like cheap repairs.
Thanks much.
Andy

Well, no official word yet, however there I do have news to report. The Genius at the Apple Store (Michael @ Ridgedale Mall, MN) was VERY helpful and reassuring that he didn't think it was a huge issue. He doesn't think its a logic board or anything that in depth - his initial thoughts were that a wire simply came loose and thats why it will charge, but we get no activity when the power button is pushed.
I also explained to him about my fiasco with even getting this machine in the first place (this is my 3rd machine - first two arrived damaged out of the box), and they had it on record that I had tried to buy apple care within the year time frame of when I actually received the satisfactory model (this one). Plus the fact that this is no where near my first Apple purchase and that ALL of my other products have AppleCare plans.
He gave me some pointers and told me to call AppleCare today and explain the situation, explain that I'd been misinformed from various channels, etc. Well it worked, and I now have AppleCare on the machine as of today.
I should know what repair is needed in the next day, and hopefully have the machine back early next week.
Needless to say this experience once again renewed my faith in Apple and the support they offer loyal customers.

  • Can I transfer my Mac Book Pro's complete Address Book to my Mac Air?

I love the Address Book in my MacBook Pro & keep a lot of data for each person in it.  The "Address Book" in my Mac Air is not as complete.  Is it possible to copy the entire Mac Address Book to my Air?

Maybe, but if the Mac has Thunderbolt ports, it will probably give you much better results with a TB to HDMI cable such as this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CADYDO
No software, truly a plug and play proposition.

  • HT2494 Mac book pro dead

    Hi EmManna3i,
If your MacBook Pro will not power on at all, I would suggest following the steps in this article to get it up and running -

Resetting the System Management Controller, as mns579 suggests, is one of the steps but there are a few others that may assist you as well.

  • Mac Book pro almost complete the starting up

Hello, when I turn the computer on, it seems to start up normally, grey screen, blue screen, Mac OS System starting up, the desktop can be seen and THERE is the problem. Any icons (files, folders, disks) on the desktop can be seen and the menu bar on top is not displayed, only at the upper right corner the spotlight icon can be seen and a small part of the menu bar. If the pointer mouse is located on that Icon the colorful spinning ball is displayed.
I am able to see the computer on the local net and even copy files from there and I could start it up in the safe mode.
I don´t have the system disk.
    What can I do?
    Thank you and regards
    Petrus

Start it up in Single User Mode and run fsck as described in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
If this procedure yields a message that the file system was modified, run it again until you get a run without that report at the end. Then try to start up normally.

  • Mac Book Pro - dead-..

My hard disk was full so I downloaded Omnidisksweeper and started to delete files. the computer went dead so tried command+R+start but after the logo appeared the computer went black and dead. I have tried this a few times but nothing happens. I had backed up the computer using Time machine onto an external hard drive which s safe. Any ideas?

Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

  • MAC BOOK PRO WILL NOT START- COMPLETELY DEAD!

I forgot to power down my mac book pro last night. I closed the lid & forgot to go back & turn it off completely. This morning it will not power up. The machine is completely dead.
The power supply wasn't connected overnight so I assume the battery has completely drained. It's been charging for the last 2 hours (which would normally have fully charged it) but the light on the power cord is still showing green so I assume it's still charging, however there should be plenty of juice in the battery to start the computer but it still won't start.
Any ideas how to get it started?

A dead battery will take longer to start charging, but leave it on and eventually it will start to charge again.
Once you get it charged, perform a SMC and PRAM reset

Reboot the TC.. Sometimes you need to reboot the whole network.
This is what comes of Lion and then made worse in Mountain Lion of Apple not spending enough time to fix the bugs.

  • My Mac book pro is dead and the local authorised service center is screwing me. They are asking me almost the cost of a Mac for repairing it. What should be done?

My Mac book pro which is just one and half years old got dead suddenly. My Protection plan got over and the local authorised service center says the logic board is dead and it has to be replaced. The cost for the same which they are telling is Rs.47500 and another Rs.30000 for the display. Its really sad that a new Mac book pro is costing only Rs65000 in the Indian Market. Please help....I have saved lot of money to buy this Mac and its very sad that it goes off in less than 2 years time.

No one here can do anything to help you.

  • HT4889 I just complete a migration from my Mac Book Pro to my new Mac Book Pro but none of the files on my desktop appear anywhere. Suggestions please.

I have just completed a lengthy migration of all  my files from an old Mac Book Pro to my new Mac Book Pro and I find that none of my files on my desktop have been transferred. So, I do not have the confidence that all my files have been transferred. What did I do wrong and what can I do to fix this matter. Sugggestions welcome. Thanks

Open the Users folder, drag the migrated home folder to the desktop, provide your administrator password, and retrieve the files from there. If desired, you can then use the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences to delete the migrated account. This can be done in reverse if you only want the migrated account.

  • When updating to the latest OS X my wife's Mac Book Pro locked at a grey screen with an apple icon and status bar.  Is there any way to recover the data on the laptop and complete the OS install?

When my wife's Mac Book Pro was being updated to the latest version of OS X the laptop locked up at a grey screen with the Apple icon and status bar.  Is there any way to recover the data and complete the install?  I have not tried anything yet because of the data issue.  I am not sure which OS X version as I did not install the software.

Used Macs of every description are always available on Ebay and Craigslist and from a plethora of online used-Mac resellers. Apple sells refurbished late-model Macs at 10-20% discounts with a new-computer warranty and the opportunity to extend the warranty with AppleCare.

    Hi ohmghimire,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're seeing unexpected behavior when using USB devices, try resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the article with these steps here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If you still see this behavior after resetting the SMC, or your computer won't turn on, try the steps in this article next:
