Mac book pro will not boot

So i was using my macbook pro the 2008 with mountain lion the other day with a remote connection from another mac with snow leopard installed and everything worked great, no freezes no connection problems nothing, until when i was done i didnt want to get up so i decided to shut the remoted mac from the controlling mac, it switched of and got a grey screen on the controlling mac with the "loading circle thing" than spun for forever with the message "connection lost", so decided to manually quit the remote program. So the next day i wanted to use the late 2008 mac again, but when  hit the power button nothing happened, no power light no power light no dvd drive sound nothing, just seemed like it was not powered up, so i checked the battery and it was full, checked my magsafe and it was working perfectly, but the mac didnt. so i decided to take out all power source and fit them again, still nothing happened. i tried the SMC resetting thing several times stilll nothing, so i took out all power sources again, left it overnight, and the next day i fitted the battery again, and with one push of a button it started again, and it worked flawlessly through out the day. So, the next day  i was playing again with the remote program and when i was done i turned of the late 2008 mac again from the controlling mac and got the same thing as before, so without bothering much i decided to repeat all steps performed the first time, but now the mac just wount, no matter what i do it is just not giving any signs. Now i took out the memory the ram memory, tried the hard disk on another machine and works perfectly, im stuck and dont know what else to do, does anyone know of any issues using the remote connection between macs? and / or any suggestions what else i could try? it is quiet important i need it for my work in about a week and i have no idea what to do. please help!!! thanks

After looking a little close at DU, my entire drive has been wiped out. HD space used is 1.24 GB. In 30 years of computer use I have never had an entire HD wiped out.
Any ideas, thoughts on how or why?

  • 17 inch MAC book pro will not boot up

My 17 inch MAC Book Pro will not power/boot up.  The battery is charged and it displays a green light on the power adapter.  However, it will not boot up.

    Reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, probably there's a logic board problem, so it's possible that you need a new logic board. Take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

Do you have an external drive? If no, then you will need to purchase a drive so you can backup your data.
If you have a drive that is formatted as GUID you can select to install OS X from recovery mode on the external drive. Now you can boot from that drive and make a backup of your internal drive so you can erase and reformat the drive.
    Recommended Drives
USB 3.0 drives work on USB 2.0 but you do get 2.0 speed. They are cheaper because they are popular PC drives.  If you get a new computer you'll get the bump to 3.0 speed. I don’t recommend FW. The newer computers don’t have FW ports. You would need a connector in order to use the drive on a newer computer.
Size:  I recommend either the 2T or 3T drives.  Often they are cheaper than a 1T drive. The 4T drives have more issues and failure rates.
Many drives come formatted for PC but easy to format in Disk Utility.
This Western Digital drive has good reviews: Has a 2 yr warranty. Comes formatted for Mac but I would still format using Disk Utility.
WD My Book Hard Drive for Mac 2 TB (WDBYCC0020HBK-NESN)  $99
WD My Book Hard Drive for Mac 3 TB (WDBYCC0030HBK-NESN)  $119.99
Check the warranty when comparing. The longer the warranty the better the drive. WD makes cheaper drives but with almost no warranty.
Locally, Best Buy seems to have the best prices.

  • My mac book pro will not boot up

my MBpro will not boot up when turned on, it continues the reading process, and just continues to run.  I would like to power up using control keys, and bypass loading programs or a testing mode.

Press and hold the shift key immediately after the chime.  That boots you up into "Safe Mode."

  • Mac book pro will not boot up, black screen

I got a macbook pro from a friend and am trying to see if it works.  The battery on the back seems to charge with the green lights on the back, and the small white light on the lid button lights up, but I have no display.  I tried plugging in a secondary display off of the DVI port, but that did not work either.

  • My Mac Book Pro will not power on

My Mac Book Pro will not (boot-up) power on.
    What should I do?

Do you have the power adapter connected?  Does it display a light, amber or green?
Have you checked the battery charge level by pressing the exterior battery level button?
    Try a SMC reset:

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard.  I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

  • My mac book pro will not shot down or restart.

mac book pro 13 2011 dec. mac os x 10.7.4. my mac book pro will not shot down or restart, my mac is to slow to much loading. . when i open some apps loading when i will restart my mac book pro
loading. i can't restart the same problem  when i wil shut down my mac. need help

Mackeeper has been known to cause more problems than fix, all the posts here say don't use it and offer instuctions on how to remove it, which is not as easy as just dragging it to the trash.
I am willing to guess that some of the third party software could be the issue.
    Try a safe boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Starting up in “safe mode” may help you diagnose problems you’re having with your Mac.
Note: To print these instructions, open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print.
Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.
If you still have problems I would take it to Apple, there seems to be something strange going on here.
You search remove mackeeper on this forum, and get rid of it.

  • I have OS 10.8.2 and use wireless at home just fine. When I visit a friend with only a cable modem internet my Mac Book Pro will not connect. What do I need to do?

I have OS 10.8.2 and use wireless at home just fine.
When I visit a friend with only a cable modem internet my Mac Book Pro will not connect.
I see that the Mac Book Pro is picking up the internet when I check the internet preference section but it will not open Safari.
What do I need to do connect via a cable modem?

You need to power off the modem for 15-30 seconds, then power back up and then connect. The modem is remembering the last connection (your friend).

  • Downloaded and installed os x yosemite and now mac book pro will not restart? How long should this take? Is there something wrong? Please helpthanks in advance

MAc book pro. I have downloaded and installed os x yosemite now mac book pro will not start? How long should it take? Is there something wrong?

The 2 computers here took about 45 minutes to an hour each.
The best thing to do is give it more time. If it gets too ridiculous, shutdown using the power button and then restart. Check  menu/About This Mac to see if it is installed.
