Mac book Retina Battery

I just received my Mac book retina yesterday and the battery doesn't last more than 3 hours. I read through the other forums, but the dock doesn't seem to be draining my battery because it operates at 1% only. I keep the resolution to scaled with more space (the second to last in scaled configuration) and am using just safari with my wifi on. I turned of the bluetooth. Even with the resolution set to Best for Retina Display, the battery didn't last longer than 3 hours.Any suggestions?

I agree with Shah_Min, you SHOULD return it but try something else first as this drastically helped me...
Power down
Power on and immediately press Option-Command-P-R until you hear the initialization sound twice.
Release all 4 buttons
I do not claim to know what this does or why it helps, but I live 60 miles from the nearest Apple store so it was worth a try for me...
I immediately started getting 7 and even 8 hours of battery life without touching my settings.

It depends on the uses you give to your computer, because the battery will have capacity for less time if you are using professional apps than using Safari. Theoretically, the MacBook Pro with Retina display battery should have capacity for 7 hours, but as I said, this will decrease depending on the apps

  • I forgot my password for my mac book retina which I just bought 1 1/2 months ago. Is there any possibility to reset it?

Hi, I forgot my password for my mac book retina which I just bought 1 1/2 months ago.
Is there any possibility to reset it? I guess (not sure) the operating system is os x.

    Forgot Your Account Password
    For Snow Leopard and earlier
Mac OS X 10.6- If you forget your administrator password
    For Lion/Mountain Lion
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
Or see Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password and
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
If you are unable to boot from an installer DVD:
(these will only work on Leopard or earlier)
      1. Boot to Safe Mode by restarting and after the chime press and hold down
the COMMAND-S keys until a black screen with white type appears.
      2. At the prompt, type the following commands pressing return after each
          command line:
         /sbin/fsck -yf
If you do not receive a "Filesystem OK" message then repeat this command
until you do.  If after seven tries you still do not receive a "Filesystem OK"
message, then the system is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
         mount -uw /
         cd /private/var/db/netinfo
         mv local.nidb local.old
         rm ../.AppleSetupDone
         shutdown -r now
The second-to-last command above will cause OS X to think that the operating system is newly installed, and when the new owner starts up the computer it will send him/her to the startup wizard where he/she can start a new user without reinstalling.
This last method does not actually change a password. It simply removes the user accounts and lets you create an initial admin account as if the computer were new out of the box.
Reset Admin Password Using The Terminal
You can reset the password by printing out (or writing down) and carefully following these steps.
First, find the short name of the admin user on the machine. The easiest way of doing this is by looking at what the directory is called in the Users folder.
Now, start in Single-user Mode. It should boot into a command line.
Enter these exact lines. Press RETURN after each.
    mount -uw /
    ifconfig lo0 up
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    netinfod -s local
Now you'll need that short name. Enter "passwd", a space, and the short name of the admin. For example, if the admin was rather prosaically called "imadmin", you would enter "passwd imadmin".
The computer will now prompt you to change the password for "lmadmin" (or whatever the short name was). Go ahead and enter a new password.
    Now, enter:
    sync
    reboot
and the machine will reboot. The admin password should now be changed.

  • Replacing Mac Book Pro battery

I need to replace my battery for my original Mac Book Pro. Is there a specific battery I need to look for? Or do I just need a 15" Mac Book Pro battery? Do the older Mac Book Pro's run with a different battery than newer models?
    Thanks for your help.

Sometimes the simple link doesn't really answer the question. Thanks for clarifying that there's only one kind you can buy...and that's all I needed to know! When you said I couldn't use my girlfriends newer Mac Book Pro you more or less implied that there is a difference...but since you just said you can only buy one kind of replacement battery...that answered my concern. Thank you

  • Lost Screws for my Mac Book Retina 15"

Hi I purchased the new Mac Book retina when they were released in June 2012. I recently found a tiny screw on the floor and traced it back to my my Mac Book. When I examined it I found I was missing several screws. Does anyone know what I can do about this?
    Thank you in advance.
    Ben Kelly

Rush back to the store and request replacement. Regardless if you purchased AppleCare or not you do have a one-year base warranty.
But you may have to convince them of your innocence: that you weren't trying to get inside the non-serviceable Mac.

  • Mac Book Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013 does not seem to work with Adobe Premiere CC 2014

So I have just spent brought the latest mac book 15 inch pro with Nvida, and rendering some screen recording I originally captured in quicktime with a few backgrounds crashes adobe cc, it takes about 4 min, I can hear my mac getting hot, and says a serious issue has occurred and it needs to quit??? I also have FCP and the same footage renders in 2 min and finishes without any issues.
If I change it to software mode still gets crazy hot and after 40min had only got to 40% completed, so that is not a viable option
This seems to be a common topic on the forum without any solutions. here is my error report. Any ideas???

  • Need help for downloading java at mac book retina

i want to download java at my mac book pro retina but everytime we downloaded its not working..i need this because im going to use it to open my bank account...everytime i gonna check my bank account i need to use another computer not this my mac.why?? can you help me please.

Banks do NOT use Java-in-a-Browser for anything, at all. If you have received a suggestion to conduct banking with JAVA enabled in your Browser, someone is attempting to commit a crime, with you as the intended victim.  You are being scammed and should report it to the Police.

  • Mac book pro battery only reports 3000mAh on battery.

My works 15" mac book pro says battery capacity is 3300mAh. I've tried calibration of the battery. I turned off power saving and left it switched on to run down battery but laptop won't power on again when the battery goes flat even when connected to the mains until its been charging for about 10 minutes at which point it says its got 1000mAh (1/3 charged). I'm sure it used to power on immediately from flat if on mains power.
The laptop is about 2 1/2 years old and currently my main use is at home connected to power but occasionally I need to use it on battery when it lasts less than an hour. I do have an apple care pack for it (not registered it yet! I know, its just been one of those things I've never got round to doing).
Can anyone suggest what I do next?

Your battery is on its last legs and needs to be replaced soon, as System Profiler is telling you. AppleCare won't cover it. Batteries are consumables, and you've consumed yours.

  • Mac Book Pro Battery after 1 year...

Bought my Mac last year in march - used it sparingly then, and the long haul the battery would last for five hours.
Now, I use it for almost every class I'm in, sometimes with the charger, sometimes without - and it only lasts for maybe a half hour before completely shutting off at about 50% battery. I can't get it to restart until I put it on the charger.
I've had to download AdobeCS3, SecondLife, and one MMORPG. Are any of these effecting it? I've tried all I can think of to conserve battery power (minimal tasks running at the same time, lower display settings, etc) but it still blitzes out like crazy.
What can I do to fix this battery, or should I start setting aside money for a new battery now?

The Battery needs replacing. It is under warranty for one year. If you didn't purchase Apple Care to extend your warranty for another 2 years (including free battery upgrades) then you will need to pay for a new one.
You can check your battery statistics to see how many recharge cycles it has counted -- more than likely you are at 300 or more...time for a new battery.
One other thing you can do is to do a complete power reset, and see if that restores your battery functioning properly. See the MBP support page for instructions on how to do a complete reset (which is different from just powering down and powering up)
