Mac goes over 100 percent cpu usage

As seen in the picture, the game called 'runescape' which i was playing reached 171 percent cpu usage on my computer. My computer never crashed from playing this game but crashes alot while playing Dota 2, once when I crashed from dota 2, the computer lagged showing my activity monitor which showed that dota had 100.1 percent cpu usage. Is this a problem of the game or the computer? Multiple friends of mine have played this game and never once crashed on it.

It is a problem with games in general: they use a lot of CPU power (and heat the CPU up correspondingly). Over 100% is not very spectacular, because modern CPUs have 2, 4 or 8 cores, and each has a maximum of 100%. If you have a 4 cores cpu the run escape is taking almost 45% which is a lot.

Have installed, uninstalled itunes on xp machine and tried all the fixes given in the discussion groups, plus cnet and other internet fixes.....nothing works.  After installation of itunes cpu usage goes to 100 percent and itunes stops.  Cpu stays at 100 percent until I uninstall itunes.  By the number of posts on the internet, I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed this issue with a fix.

I had the same problem but this worked for me.
Get to a dos command prompt and type:  netsh winsock reset
You will need to reboot your computer but it fixed tocpu 100% issue.

Try reinstalling iTunes. Or, if you already have iOS 5, you can update from the phone.

    Hi
I think I found the cause to my problem and also solved it?
When I investigated my "Console Log" the next message was repeated :
... mDNSResponder[202] Failed to obtain NAT port mapping from router 10.0.1.1 external address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx internal port 9999
This gave me an idea and pointed in the NAT configurations.
What have I done (which solved my problem) :
    • opened "Airport Utility"
    • selected my Airport Base Station
    • choose "manual Setup"
    • choose "internet connection"
    • after that i selected the tab "NAT"
    • where I deactivated "Enable NAT port mapping protocol"
    • and then I updated my Airport Base station
=> since then, no more the problem and de message disappeared from the "Console Log"

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library if you don't have one (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the fix below:
    Fix
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
Launch iPhoto after each rebuild and see if there's any improvement.

How are you doing the restore? Booted from the SL disc > Utilities > Restore from backups?
How long did the initial backup take, and how long did you let the restore run?

  • In a plan where the entire family has 4 GB, is data-overage charged when it goes over 4 GB all-together, or when each phone goes over it's individual usage?

    Urgent question please answer!

Think about it for awhile, it is not reasonable that it should be an individual thing.
Consider you have 4 lines sharing 4 GB of data and EACH line went over its share of 1 GB by 100 MB. With YOUR scenario that it is an "individual" thing, EACH line would have a $15 overage fee for a total of $60 in overage fees. Combined, though, the TOTAL usage would be 4.4 GB for a TOTAL overage fee of $15 if the overage is a "shared" thing.
The question is really irrelevant, though since the entire bill is the responsibility of the account owner. The account owner can dole out the overage fee to whomever they see fit. If you have 4 lines sharing 4 GB of data and there is a $15 overage charge while 3 of the lines have data usage under 1 GB and only 1 line has data usage over 1 GB, simply charge the line with greater than 1 GB data usage for the overage fee.

  • Itunes 100 percent CPU

I am running Itunes and my CPU is running at 100% also when trying to go onto the iTunes Store it just says "accessing iTunes Store" and hangs there. There was an update available so I tried to update which resulted in getting an error when installing saying that MSVCR80.dll was missing. I then uninstalled itunes following all the steps removing :
    Itunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
I downloaded the latest version of Itunes and installed it. I still have the same problem. I then tried using command prompt and  netsh winsock reset. Restarting the computer but this hasn't helped either. I then tried Autoruns from Microsoft Website to see if there was any other programs using Winsock, but the only one that is showing is Bonjour.
Please can anyone help? I'm running out of ideas

  • 100 percent bandwidth usage

I have two 2 Cisco 2821-VK/9 routers between 2 offices. The connection between the 2 is a 2 Meg diginet line.
When ever I copy a file between the two sites that is more than 1 Gb in size, the bandwidth usage is 100 % and it takes a very long time to complete.
Could you please advice what I should do.
    Regards
    Cyril

    Hi Cyril,
I'll assume since you're posting in the UC section that your question in some way relates to voice/video traffic on that link and perhaps not just to the length of time taken to copy large files.
you might want to consider implemented a QoS policy on your network if there isn't one already in place.
You can start with some light reading here.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/5x/50nstrct.html#wp1043960
It won't make your 1Gb files copy faster but it can help stop them choking off your other network traffic.
    regards,
    Paul

  • Tasks using over 100% of CPU?

There are a few Root tasks that occasionally use more than 100% of my CPU according to my Activity Monitor. One of them was at 148% at one point.
There is usually just one Root task that uses that much CPU whenever I open my Macbook from sleep or it just happens at random times. And the only way to stop it is to force quit the task that is making it do that. It all started after I was ripping a DVD using iSkySoft and it froze so I had to force quit. Once it quit, the CPU problem came up.
Why does it do this? Do I just have to check the Activity Monitor every now and then to delete the Root tasks that use a lot of CPU? Is there a way to permanently make it stop?

Well the root task problem stopped but now I just turned on the computer and Finder was using about 80% CPU for some reason but it seems to be working now after I quit it in Activity Monitor and brought it back up again.

  • Standalone program utlising 100 percent CPU time

We are struck with a problem, our standalone program is occupying most of cpu time and limiting existing processes access to cpu. We need to bring down cpu utilization of the process.
Java program when run polls to MQ, gets the xml message from mq, stores in databse, spans a thread which converts the message to relevant sql statements, executes them on the database. There is a limitation on maximum threads can be allowed, if more messages than max count of threads arrive they are stored and when the threads are free this message would be passed to a newly created thread.
    Thread pooling is not implemented.

  • 100% CPU Usage caused by HMI

    Hi everybody:
I'm working with LabVIEW DSC 8.2.1 in a system that monitors many variables of a plant, such a typical SCADA system. For this reason, the use of the graphic tools is highly used on the development of this system. Everything works fine, but I have only one problem.... the usage of the CPU.
When I am working on the development system I (not the executable) I start the application and after the variables are initialized and every process has started and are running , the CPU usage is raised around 90 - 100%. After a few days investigating the reason of this, I realized thay when I change the view on the screen to another view, for example the block diagram of the application, while the application is still running, the CPU usage goes around 15 - 25%. I've tried these many times changing the view from Front panel to Block Diagram and viceversa and the result is always the same: Front Panel= around 100%; Block diagram or another view (other applications MMIs, or Block Diagrams, etc.)= around 20%.
Another thing that I realized is that the other view (different to front panel) has to fill the entire screen to work the way I'm telling before.
When I build and run the executable, the usage of the CPU is the same... (around 100%), but I can't see any other application, because the application built is the shell of the OS, so no other views are available.
I don't know if there's some other consideration to take into account about the HMI when creating an application, and I'll appreciate very much your help.
    Thanks in advance!

100 Percent CPU Usage when you run programs after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2
    CPU Usage 100% Symptoms
When you run some programs, the CPU Usage meter in Task Manager may indicate CPU Usage 100%. When CPU utilization reaches 100 percent, programs will run very slowly or stop responding (hang) and your computer is freezing or crashing.
Noteress CTRL+ALT+DEL to view CPU utilization, click Task Manager, and then click the Performance tab.
These symptoms occur after you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
    CPU Usage 100% Cause
These problem occurs because of the user interface code that is included in Windows XP SP2. The high CPU utilization is caused by the additional overhead that occurs when the IsWindow function is called by the user interface code.
