Mac mini doesn't booting

I got a problem with my late 2012 mac mini ( intel core i5 processor, 500GB HDD). I was playing "Call of Duty" when it stopped working(freezed). I tried to press any button on the keyboard but nothing happened. Then I shutted it down by pressing power button. But when I press the power button once again, my mac mini failed to boot. The indicator light is on but there isn't boot sound and the screen is blank either. I tried to restart several times but its still didnt boot. Anyone here can help me? thanks.

My 2009 Mac mini doesn't boot anymore : all I get is a blank screen, I can't even chose to boot on the restoration drive.
From your experience, what do you think it could be linked with ? motherboard ? RAM ? It doesn't looke like a hard drive issue.

Hello! I'm having, what sounds like, the same issue. Everything was working fine, until I ran a combined update, as prompted, for 10.8.2. After the normal reboot, the computer boots to a plain, white screen with no Apple. The computer is not responding to any keyboard command at startup, be it any of the reset commands, 'C' to boot to the optical drive, or option to select the startup destination. When pressing the Caps/Num lock keys, I notice that none of the LED lights will turn on on the keyboard. The piggybacked optical mouse is not showing it's red light from the bottom either. These tested fine on my MacBook Pro, however, and have always worked with the Mac Mini. Connecting and reconnecting the devices does not help. I know how to run all of the hard disk repairs, the permission fixes, etc., but it appears as though something is stopping my USB devices from being utilized (or even powered) at startup. I work in IT, and I support Apple computers every day (point being, I do know my stuff).
I opened the case and disconnected the hard drive from the logic board, thinking a potential hard disk issue is to blame. Upon restart, I still get the BONG (chime), but the machine will still not respond to any keyboard commands. Plugging in a USB stick that was created as a Mountain Lion boot device in Disk Utility with the InstallESD.dmg doesn't yield any results (as I am unable to 'tell' the computer to boot from it). The system disc that was packaged with the Mini is in the optical drive, but the Mini won't boot to that either. I'm at a complete loss. This is a 2010 model which was purchased new in December in that year. I'm using HDMI directly to an HDTV. The cable is working, the TV is working, the optical drive works in another machine, and the hard disc makes the necessary sounds (but not anything out of the ordinary).
To reiterate, this happened IMMEDIATELY after installing the combined 10.8.2 update. I am seeing a lot of posts about this issue, but no actual solutions. The dialogue seems to die somewhere after, "Reset the PRAM."

Mac mini doesn't boot the first time i turn it on

hello,
i have a strange problem with my mac mini and was wondering if anyone had heard of it before.
when i turn on mac mac, the light comes on and i hear drive noise, but no chime. no video is sent to the display (the monitor flashes "no signal"). however, if i wait for 5 or 10 minutes, turn it off by holding down the power button and then turn it straight back on it again, it starts up as usual (with chime).
could this be a software problem or is it more likely a glitch in the hardware?

That doesn't sound like a software/OS problem, because MacOS doesn't begin to load until after the initial startup, including the chime and the grey screen with Apple logo. Since you don't get the chime or display, it sounds like the system has a hardware problem, or perhaps an issue with PRAM.
As a first step I would reset PRAM as follows:
-Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
-Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
-Release the keys.

Mac mini doesn't boot anymore

Hello all,
all of a sudden my Mac Mini (Macmini3,1) stopped booting: no chime, black screen; nothing happens. I didn't upgrade the hardware.
Now I found out that if I reset (== hold down the power switch until powers off, power on again) the mini 3 times in a row when it is "stuck" like that it boots normally the fourth time.
If I then try to restart from Mac OS X the LED flashes fast then there is a long beep (kind of like when there is a firmware upgrade)... and the mini is "stuck" again.
I was wondering if someone had a similiar issue, or if maybe someone had an idea how to fix this.

Following these instructions on http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 I booted with the second DVD and pressed "D". Nothing happened. I then tried booting from the first DVD with "C" and getting all bootable volumes by pressing Option but all my attempts failed.
I guess it is related to my problem.

Mac Mini Doesn't boot up unless I unplug and replug

If I shut down my Mac Mini it will not start up again unless I unplug the machine and plug it back in. I have a hub attached, which has a light that stays on, so I know its still receiving power. Any thoughts?

(My personal experience has been that the problem you describe always comes down to an issue with a USB cable or device.)

FileMaker Server problem on Mac Mini Server - Mac Mini won't boot

I just installed a brand new Mac Mini Server today, and also FileMaker Server 11. A first-timer for both Mac OS X Server and FileMaker Server, I made an error as explained below, and right now I don't know how to get back on track with the system. It won't boot.
So, how did this happen?
At first everything was proceeding according to plan. I configured the pre-installed Mac OS X Server on the Mac Mini with users, groups and services. This was tested from clients and this seemed to work just fine. Then I installed and configured FileMaker Server. This was also tested from a client, and the example database that came with FMS was served up just fine.
The problem arose when I tried to install my existing FileMaker databases. I simply checked to see where in the file system the example database was located, and then copied my old databases to that location (I think it was Library > FileMaker Server > Data > Databases or something close to it - can't check it now...). I had the FileMaker Server Admin Console running, and hit the Refresh button hoping that this would make FileMaker Server find the databases.
This was my first error. I should have read ahead in the instructions to see that one is supposed to use an Upload Database assistant instead...
What happened when I hit refresh was that the FileMaker Server Admin Console became completely unresponsive with a spinning ball as cursor. I left it for about an hour hoping it would terminate, but gave up and tried to shut it down. It wouldn't close, so I force quit it from the Finder. Then I tried to shut down FileMaker Server, but I needed to force quit this as well. After this I thought it would be best to reboot the Mac Mini, so I shut it down, but now it won't even boot, it just stays on the screen with the spinning wheel for ever!
I have tried all the keyboard options while booting, but nothing seems to help. In safe mode, the grey progress bar just grows to about one third, then disappears and leaves the eternally spinning wheel.
The server version of the Mac Mini doesn't have an optical drive, only two internal hard drives. I tried to reinstall from scratch using the optical drive on another Mac on the network. The startup disk appeared when I tried to boot the Mac Mini holding down the option key, and after about 20 minutes or so of the spinning wheel I could actually access the discs. I started by running Disk Utility to check disk permissions. There were a lot of repairs concerning permissions and groups, especially on "Library". It said "ACL differs on Library", I don't know what this is but this was repaired. I then ran Repair Disk. The volume appeared to be OK.
When I tried to reinstall Mac OS X Server however, this failed with the message
"You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X because a newer version is installed. Mac OS X Server couldn't be installed on this disk." I don't know how this can be, but I may have run software update earlier today.
What should I try next? Should I erase the primary HD and try to install again? Or should I install the system software on the secondary HD? Or should I just try to reboot as is in the hope that the disk permission repairs did the trick...?

Hello there, I came across your post when browsing the forum for passive advice. I am in the same boat as you and am a first timer for both of these tools. I work for a company who now needs to expand its network and database capabilities. I have been assigned this task and these are the tools i have opted for. I have not yet purchased them and i am pleased to find someone who has my desired setup. Could you please advise on the simplicity of the setup and whether an advanced knowledge is required.
I want to use it in a mixed operating system environment. Is this possible?

Mac mini unable to boot, stuck in grey screen.

i have a Mac Mini which I have kept up to date with current version of OS X (Mountain Lion)
After a recent reboot the system won't come up, it just hangs displaying a grey screen.

I have done a /sbin/fsck -fy and this works fine. I can browse the file system, the only
strange thing I notice is "BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: 2 No such file or directory".
I have googled quite a lot but I have not managed to find a solution for this, though it is frequently mentioned.
I have tried the normal diagnostics and no hardware error is reported.
I have tried to boot into local recovery, this starts but after a while I end up with the grey screen.
I have tried a Internet recovery and this starts, the screen flashes for a second and I end up with the gray screen
I have tried the different reset methods, such as NVRAM ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 )
I have tried to reset the SMC ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 )
I have swapped the RAM modules for other ones.
testing my internet connectivity; speedtest.net reports 15 Mbit downstream and 2 Mbit upstream
Even if I leave my Mac mini on for 12+ hours the internet recovery never finishes, nor am I presented with any options, just the grey screen.
Because the Mac mini doesn't ship with any DVD-media and the Mountain Lion I have bought is through the app store I couldn’t try to boot
from a DVD.
The reason I bought a Mac was to get away from problems which is typically related to computers (Windows). I am running out of ideas here,
please help!

Mac mini won't boot anymore

My Mac mini won't boot anymore. It's been running fine for months.
It's running Leopard Server 10.5.2 Build 9C31
It starts to boot, I get the first spinning gear with the gray screen, then the blue desktop blinks, then a second spinning gear on a gray screen and it appears to hang (the gear stops spinning).
I booted off the install DVD, ran disk utility, repaired the HD, repaired the permissions: the behavior is the same.
Safe mode doesn't work (same hang as above).
Single user mode does work.
I can connect to it via Server Admin while it appears hung.

Yes, it's been running Server since I purchased it.
I doubt the serial number is in use elsewhere: I purchased the 10-user version at a retail store in a sealed package and I've only installed it once.

TS2057 mac mini doesn't see dvd

Recently my mac mini doesn't see dvd's when i put them in to play.

I have to agree with Dah●veed and use an > LG GE24LU20 Reviews that I call Brutus.
Not only has Brutus spared the SuperDrives in both my 2006 iMac and 2010 Mac Mini, but he runs circles around the SuperDrives when it come to burning, importing, playing, even booting from System Install and Upgrade Disc's.
Other External DVD Drives that are highly reccommended here in the forums, are:
OWC's > SuperDrive DVD, DVD Dual-Layer, CD-R/RW, Blu-Ray Optical Drive Solutions FireWire, USB2, eSATA
and the LaCie's > LaCie - LightScribe DVD±RW, Duplicators and Blu-ray - USB 2.0 & FireWire

Mac mini doesn't do anything after startup

My early 2009 Mac mini doesn't allow me to do anything after booting. Once the desktop loads, anything I do causes a spinning beach ball to appear.
Important info: Hard drive has over 30Gb of free space, so that isn't an issue.
Help please!

To be honest, I think it's over 60Gb of free space. The hard drive is either 320Gb or 360Gb.

Try disconnecting any external devices, especially hard drives
and try rebooting.
If that doesn't help, then :
If you are running Lion, boot to the Recovery HD and run a
Repair Disk on the OSX partition.
If Snow Leopard, boot to the installl DVD and run Repair Disk.

Help - Mac Mini does not boot after re-install of OS X

I have a Mac Book Pro and Mac Mini. I needed to reinstall my Mac Mini but lost the install disks. The install disks of the Macbook do not work (machine specific). So what I did was boot the Mac Mini in firewire target mode and installed OS X to it from the Macbook. Worked ok. Except for one thing: The Mac mini does not boot the fresh OS X installation. I get a blinking folder icon with a question mark on top of it.
I booted from the Mac OS X install disk, repaired disk permissions etc. and tried to use the "Startup Disk" utility to select the hard drive as a boot device. But that utility does not offer me to select the hard disk, it doesn't even show up (while DiskUtility can perfectly see it).
Any hints for me? I am pretty much stuck right now.

Well, see, the fact that it wouldn't let you boot from the MacBook install disks should have been your first clue to not try to do it. There's a reason it wouldn't let you. The MacBook install disks contain a version of the OS specific to the MacBook, in order to prevent people doing what you just tried to do (ie, installing the same copy of the OS on multiple machines).
If you don't have the Mac Mini system disks any more, you'll have to go buy a copy of OS X. You could also ask for help from an Apple Store, if there's one in your area, but I honestly don't know if they would give you new disks. I would think they should (for a small fee), since Mac Mini system disks would be useless to anyone who didn't already own a Mac Mini, but you never know.

Mac Mini Won't Boot or Internet Restore - Hard Drive Boots on Macbook

Late 2012 Mac Mini. I cloned my 10.10.2 installation of Yosemite over from my Macbook pro 6,2 to a 1TB Samsung 840 SSD. It booted with no issues besides the keychain being lost and all passwords having to be re-entered.
After a week of going perfectly, it stops recognizing the USB keyboard after I unplugged it and plugged it back in. So I rebooted and get the dreaded stop sign after the boot failed. Oops. I enabled trim before I cloned, but forgot to check if it was working in the cloned drive (seems it was in the end). Since there was no recovery partition, I booted into Internet Recovery, but that hung using both WPA and WPA2 router logins. It obviously was syncing with router, but I got error -2002f in every configuration I tried. It also didn't seem to recognize an ethernet connection. Weird stuff.
I remembered I had an issue with a previous Mac Mini of the same model and the permissions after a clone. I repaired permissions and that was that. This is different because it wouldn't boot into Safe Mode. Resetting the PRAM did bring back an audible chime at least.
I pulled the SSD out of the Mac Mini and alt booted in from my Macbook 6,2. No issues (except the keychain thing again( and it loaded quickly. Nothing seemed to be wrong.
Then I put it back in the Mac Mini and tested it with known working RAM. Still the same thing. So now I am going to sleep on it and try to figure it out. It is unlikely to be a hardware failure as the Mac Mini was made in May 2014 and I bought factory refurbished. It seems to be an issue relating to the SSD as it boots other drives.
Any ideas?

Is this SSD an additional drive added to your Mac Mini or did you replace the HDD with it? If it's an additional drive and since it's a Samsung, depending where you purchased your drive doubler kit (iFixit or OWC) you can try swapping the drives in the bays. I know for a fact that Samsung SSDs do not work right with the iFixit drive doubler kit's SATA cable. But it does work correctly with the Apple supplied SATA cable. If it's the OWC SATA cable, I know for a fact those are much more reliable with Samsung, OWC, Intel, Crucial SSDs. Another thing, I would NOT enable TRIM (my opinion) using a 3rd party trim enabler if you're running Yosemite. There are issues with trim enablers and Yosemite. Just let the built-in Garbage Collection take care of things.
If it's not an additional drive that was added, does your Mac Mini boot and work fine with the stock drive that it came with? Even though it's a 2012 model, if you purchased it refurbished from Apple in May 2014, you're still under warranty (same 1yr as new Macs) and if it's having same or similar issues working with the stock drive, you can take it to a local Apple Store for warranty repair. You would need to have only the stock drive installed (no SSD) before you setup an appointment.

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD by pressing/holding COMMAND+R at system start or the Option/Alt key and choosing Recovery HD to boot into?
If you can get into the Recovery HD, open Disk Utilities and Verify Disk. Repair if necessary.

I have ALL the exact same symptoms as on my home computer.
It sure sounds to me like something on the iPod is broken. If it's under warranty then I would send it back for repair. If not, check out some of the web repair services, such as iPodResQ etc.
