Mac mini first boot

I plan on getting a Mac mini in the next few months and I was wondering on first boot up how do I setup my logitech bluetooth mouse

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It should detect your mouse and have basic mouse capabilities until you can install any Logitech software and fully configure the mouse.

  • Mac Mini first boot and bluetooth keyboard not recognised

    Hi Apple Support Community-
I have just purchased a brand new Mac Mini and App Wireless Keyboard.  Unfortunately upon first boot, the Mac Mini is requesting I connect my bluetooth keyboard by switching it on, however even though the green light flashes, after the 5 second startup acknowledgement, there is no response from the Mac Mini.
To confirm the keyboard is working, I have successfully paired it with my MacBook.  I do not have a USB Keyboard or Mouse and without purchasing additional hardware, do you have any suggestions to work around this problem?
    Thanks, Julian

    Hi Julian,
Sometime a Mac can't pickup the connection of a bluetooth keyboard or mouse is normal. Whatever your Mac is brand new or not.
I will do the following if the brand new Mac can't pickup the bluetooth connection, but make sure the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is not yet paired with other computer, that means you have to un-pair the keyboard and mouse from your MacBook before you perform the follow step:
    - Switch off the Mac
    - Switch off the Keyboard and Mouse which not yet paired with other computer, remove its battery, and re-install the battery after 10 seconds
    - Switch on the Keyboard and Mouse first, make sure both devices have a green light flashes (the light flashed at intervals, like a pulse **...**...sorry my poor English), that means the devices is discoverable.
    - Switch on the Mac asap if all the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is ready, and let the Mac pair both device (according the screen instruction)
If the method still doesn't work, the worst case is: i'm afraid you have to connect wired keyboard and mouse to finish the Setup Assistant, and pair both bluetooth devices by Bluetooth Preferences. Once both bluetooth devices connected, disconnect wired keyboard and mouse.

  • Mac Mini First Boot Registration

    Hello,
When I first boot my new Mac Mini, it ask me some details for registration. I didn't have an Apple ID. So I registered it probably with my name and phone number etc. Then newly I created an Apple ID, and re-registered my new Mac to my Apple ID, with same name, phone, e-mail etc. Would it create a problem? Or my old registration is deleted already? =)
    Thanks in advance;
    H.

We don't really know what happens at Apple, but you now have an Apple ID. Whatever old registrations you had should still remain under your old ID.

  • Razer Kayboard/Mouse and Mac Mini first Setup/Boot

    G'day Apple Support Communities,
I'm purchasing a new MacMini in a few weeks. I'm wondering whether the new mac can detect/setup the mac compatible Razer kayboards and mouses upon first boot/setup. As I understand, a new mac will go through various steps, to select language and timezone. But when it needs to pair kayboards and mouses, will it detect the Razer gaming keyboards/mouses.
    Kayboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate
    http://au.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards/mechanical/razer-blackwidow-ultimate/
    Mouse: Razer DeathAdder
    http://au.razerzone.com/razer-deathadder/
Both peripherals claim to be Mac Compatible
    Ta, flakefrost

    hey!
any mac can detect any usb mouse or keyboard, but depending on the company and the peripheral it's full functionality can be impaired or completely absent. for example the blackwidow ultimate keyboard has specific function keys for mac os x (mission control/expose) and a built-in macro automatization system which cannot be used without the driver for the keyboard. so the point is that you need the drivers :-)
i have a razer blackwidow ultimate mac edition and a razer mamba 2012.
the correct installation is as follows:
    1.) go to razerzone.com
    2.) move mouse over support
3.) klick on drivers, software, manuals
    4.) find your product
    5.) download mac drivers
    6.) install drivers
    7.) plug in devices
you have to restart after each individual driver installation and you should plug in the device after both drivers are installed, not before or during installation.
last but not least the mac drivers are only compatible with mac os 10.5-10.6, mac os 10.7 lion is not compatible with the drivers. i found out the hard way through freezing of the computer and kernel panics. after a clean install of lion and the drivers, i had a kernel panic the second time i turned it on after the clean installation. @ Razer: where are the updates??!! :-(

  • My mac mini on booting keeps restarting.....help

Ok a quick look as what's happening with my mac
My mac mini mid 2011 model was running totally fine on os lion
Just few days back I updated to mountain lion
Installation was fine but on a restart showed me a error MSG that your
computer restarted because of a problem
But then my mac booted fine and I updated n installed latest software updates
Then on an average out of 10 shutdowns i did in 3 to 4 days the same error showed up 2 to 3 times
Then I checked the report showed some kernel thing ( the copy is below)
Then I used disk utility checked disk and disk permission it showed error and needs
To be repaired then on repairing it , it repaired and said all is ok
Then next shutdown was fine I thought problem solved
But next day when I tried to on my mac within a sec it showed a grey screen with some error in back ( Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting check photo ) and my mac kept restarting No apple logo to spinning wheel just on then grey screen then error MSG then restart and kept doing this
Then little google and then I did some first aid steps
    Tried safe mode not successful
Tried disk utility option verified disc it showed errors again and this time said that disk cannot be repaired
Can open Internet recovery option also but before reinstalling my os I wanted to save my data
    as I have no backup
My first and only priority is to save my data first and take a backup and then think of reinstalling os increase my ram or change hard disk so please guide me and by looking at my problem what you guys think it is an os failer ,hard disk failer or something else
    My plan is to try
Transfer disk mode with another mac using thunderbolt ....and if that does not work
Then take out hard disk and try to use with hhd enclosure
If you have any nice tip that I can do to get n save my data please share thanks
My very first error MSG when I updated to mountain lion

Hello, did you repair the Disk, or just Permissions?
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
I suspect one of these is out of date or doesn't work with 10.8.x...

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Mac mini slow boot

Hello, im new to macs having always had windows before.
I bought my mac mini about a month ago and its been great, but the past few times ive booted it up its been slow to get to the log in screen and then once there my wireless trackpad and keyboard wont work.
If i turn them off and on it acknoledges that they have been turned off and on, but cant move the cursor or type.
If i press a volume buton the keyboard after about 2 minutes the symbol will come up on the screen, where its finally decided to accept what the keyboard wants to do and it all works fine from then on.
    Any ideas whats causing this?
As i say, im new to all this mac business so be gentle with me.

Ive not instaled much, just iexplorer, hands off, final cut pro, transmission, vlc, youtube to mp3, adapter.
All i really use this for is browing the net, updating my ipod and iphone, storing photos, videos.
When i turned it on just now it done its big stall, so i opened console up and copied it from its last shut down.
I dont know what im looking at really, so im hoping one of you guys could teach me.

  • Mac Mini Slow Boot. Leopard

I have a Mac Mini 5 months old running Leopard as delivered.
Recently has started taking 5 minutes to boot.
I see no obvious troubleshooting tools I would expect with a Windows PC to assist.
    What are the likley causes?
What tools can I use to debug problems?
I have installed all up to date software, but not any firmware updates if indeed such things are available.
MAc is new to me so apologies if this is obvious!!

If it is primarily slow in the blue screen part of the startup process, then the system has already located the boot disk. The boot disk is simply the drive with macOS installed on it that the system uses to start up on, and is of course normally the internal hard drive.
You will have received a DVD with the mini that has a version of MacOS on it that can boot the system, primarily for use if and when you need to reinstall MacOS because the installer is also on that same disk. Also on this DVD, there are a few basic and simple utilities for checking and testing the system, but these are rarely, if ever, needed.
First thing to do is open System Preferences - it's the square icon with the cog-wheel design near the right-hand end of the dock. You'll see a number of preference 'panes' in there (the equivalent of Windows control panels) which allow you to set a range of appearance and behavioural defaults in the system. Most are pretty self explanatory of course. Open the Startup Disk pane, and after a second or two once the panel shows the available startup volumes, you should see your internal drive listed, and probably also 'network startup'. Select your internal drive and click the restart button. This is just to make sure that you have your internal drive set as the startup so MacOS doesn't need to go searching for it.
Once the system restarts after that, and assuming the restart is still pretty slow, open Disk Utility (open your hard drive, then the Applications folder, then the Utilities folder - it's in there) and select your internal hard drive on the left. Then click 'Verify Disk' to check the drive if functionally OK. If it completes verification with no errors, next click 'Repair Disk Permissions'. This will ensure that the drive is healthy and all the user and system rights are correct. Errors with these can cause boot problems (and a great deal of other issues too).
If that doesn't resolve the problem, disconnect the USB hub (and all the devices connected to it) and reboot the system to check it isn't a USB issue. USB can cause lots of issues on both Mac and Windows systems, so it's always a good thing to troubleshoot with the minimum of devices connected.

  • Bootcamp failure has stopped my Mac Mini from booting anything

I tried to bootcamp windows 7 on to my new 2012 mac mini earlier today using a 16GB usb stick.
It formatted the usb drive, turned it into a bootable disk and put the windows 7 ISO onto it.
Everything was going fine until I got to the windows 7 installation screen.
I chose the language and country, clicked "Install Now" and it took me to a screen saying it cannot find the right drivers for the usb device, and told me to find the drivers before continuing. It also said that if my installation media was the usb device, I could unplug if I wanted to (paraphrasing).
There was a dialog that I clicked which opened up a file browser, and showed me the storage connected to the computer at the time, which included a bootcamp (:C) partition, my external HDD which was plugged in at the time, my installation usb stick, and a BOOT (:X) partition (at least I think it was called "BOOT").
It just let me browse the C drive and my external HDD, but the other two were not expandable.
I didn't know what else to do so I cancelled the installation and rebooted the mac mini.
Now I'm at a black screen which shows up after the Grey loading screen, saying "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key".
Now from what I can tell, my usb ports are NOT working at all. I was using a logitech mouse and keyboard which I had from before I bought the mac, and it was working fine before the bootcamp. It doesn't seem to be detecting any other USB storage media either.
So now no usb is recognized by the computer and I'm stuck at this black screen, unable to do anything.
My roomate has a macbook pro and a bluetooth apple keyboard, and he's successfully boot camped windows 7 onto his macbook. According to him, the Mac will try to load up windows first and let you choose which OS to use after that.
If anyone knows a way to connect the bluetooth apple keyboard to the mac mini while its trying to load up a windows installation, that would be great as I could probably hit the option key at the Grey loading screen to figure out what the problem is. Or any other advice really.
Also, could you let me know if a bootcamp usb from a macbook pro will be compatible with a mac mini, as I could probably try that. Though if the USB ports aren't being detected, which seems to be the case, I have backed myself into a corner and cannot get out easily.
I'm posting this from my windows laptop, if theres any workaround to this problem using windows, that would be great

I am on my way to a possible cure. I located in the attic the original (still in their sealed box) Official Mac Mini Install Disks after calling Apple SuUpport. (I had been trying to resurrect using an OSX Tiger Black box install dvd set). The machine just would not boot from that black Tiger OSX DVD...However:
The mac support rep (Dan - great job) had me use that original disk, and said: hold the C key - from the chime all the way until a dialog box came up to do an archive and install. It took a good 4 or 5 minutes of holding.
But - the end result was that I am now doing a complete archive and install, so I get to keep everything (many gigs of music) and reinstall third party stuff. Suitable punishment I suppose for being a Mac snob and not backing up for eons compared to backing my PC up with an automated process weekly.
For others: Dan said that the install must have encountered a glitch and was left in an incomplete state with some critical bit of software malformed. He could not explain that it would not boot to open firmware, or what the glitch might have been.
I will post again once i have a working system and once again attempt to get current in version and security updates...after a complete backup to a nice new external drive
    Oh well, live and learn.

  • Mac Mini Server Boot Camp Windows 8.1 White Screen Issue

    Hello Apple Peeps!
I have a Mac Mini Server 2012 which I have had for around 6 months. I use it quite a lot mainly for Music Production on the OS X side and Graphic Design on the Windows side.
I recently decided to factory restore it as I wanted to spring clean it and reorganise the way some of my apps were installed. The way I had it set up was it was running OS X on one SSD and Windows 8.1 (installed using Boot Camp) on the other SSD. The way I went about the factory restore was I first used disk utility to erase/format the Windows SSD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then went about the factory restore of OS X onto the other SSD as normal (following instructions from the Apple website).
The issue I am having now is that my newly installed Windows 8.1 (used solely on a single SSD) is hanging on a white screen for quite a long time before the Windows splash screen shows up, where before when I would boot or restart into Windows there was no white screen and it would go straight into the Windows splash screen and load to the desktop very quickly.
    So my question is...
Why do I get this prolonged white screen before the Windows 8.1 splash screen appears? How can I get rid of it? It was certainly not present on my previous installation. Can anyone advise me what the computer is doing during this time so that I can do some further research into a solution.
    What I have tried already....
    1) PRAM & SMC reset.
    2) Setting the startup disk to Boot Camp in both OS X and Windows 8.1.
    3) Reinstalling Windows 8.1 through Boot Camp.
MAC MINI SERVER (LATE 2012), 2.6GHZ QUAD CORE I7, 16GB RAM, 2 x 256GB SSD, OS X 10.10.2, Windows 8.1 (Retail), Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.3), Covered By AppleCare.
I would really appreciate some help with this ;-)

I have right clicked on each SSD in Device Manager and selected the option 'Properties' from the drop down menu, which brings me to this window...
I'm not sure where I can find Device Attributes, I have clicked on each of the tabs in the window above, as far as I can see none of them mention AHCI enabled or anything similar. Thanks for all of your responses by the way...much appreciated!

  • Mac Mini Wont Boot up

I've been having issues with my Mac Mini for quite a while now. When I press the power button, the power light turns on and the fans spin up, the CD/DVD drive spins up as well. But I never heard the boot up chime and nothing ever displays on the screen (not even the no operating system found sad face).
At first I thought it was defective CD that was stuck in the drive, though this evening I did finally manage to get that out. Still no joy. I've reset tried the reset options listed in the main troubleshooting pages for the Mac Mini not powering up but still hasn't work.
The computer is out of warranty, and I've worked with computer innards in the past, so I'm not worried about cracking the case if anyone has any suggestions on what may fix this problem.
    Thanks,
    ~Jaren

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Have you tried a safe start, where you hold the shift key down when you start? Have you tried a start where you hold the alt/option key down, which would be to choose where to boot from? If neither of those work, normally you look to the hard drive causing issues, however, if starting with the alt/option key down doesn't get you anywhere, then the logic board would be suspect. You might want to take it the Genius bar at your local Apple store for diagnosis. If the logic board is bad, you can buy a replacement via the web, or have the Apple store do it.

  • Mac Mini XP Boot Failure

Being a legacy Mac user (since system 6) I found the idea of booting into windows a little creepy at first. But, I just had to see if I could play some of my favorite PC games (side note - GMA950 is horrible) Anyway, All was well for the first few months - I was able to dual boot with no problems. Then a couple of weeks ago, when I attempted to boot into XP, I simply got a grey screen. I've tried the "Option" command of course, and I just tried that "ReFit" sourceforge utility and I just get a grey screen. (It doesn't even get to the ReFit EFI boot manager)
    Basic Info
    Mac OS X v10.4.8
Partioned (FAT32) with Boot Camp 1.01b
    Installed Windows XP Pro SP2
EFI Firmware is Up-To-Date as of 1/10/07
