Mac Mini Intel Core Solo 1,5GHz won't turn on

Hi at all!
I'm in a trouble with a Mac Mini Intel Core Solo-based.
Well, when I connect power cord, after a while, Power LED self-turns on (without powering on the Mac), but Startup Chime isn't played, there aren't no video signals on screen, Optical Drive mechanics isn't initialized and no Hard disk Drive noise is audible.
I can hear only (if I put my ear on Mini's body) a bit Fan Noise (and a bit air flow on the back).
If I stay-pressing power button for 4 seconds, Mac turns off. It I re-press that button, Mac turns on again. Finally, if I long-press the power button, Mac DON'T perform PMU reset (with classical speed flashing of power led, Long beep and Startup Chime).
What can I do to fix this problem?

You're right!
I wrote PMU instead of SMU.....in fact, mine is an Intel-based Mac, and PMU is present only in PowerPC Architecture.... ^_^

While I'm writing..... I thought that, in my Self-repairing operations on the Mac Mini, I've also replaced the internal 3V battery (because, with a multimeter, I'd can verify that battery voltage was only 1,75V instead of near 3V). After that, I left Mac turned off for a certain interval of time (I was busy in other personal activities). So, when I turned on again the Mac (after the complete reassembly of the entire computer), the Startup chime was played and the Mac beguns to work.
Is possible that, in the Mini - Intel Core Solo 1,5GHz, a low internal battery can cause problems like in the old dear iMacs G3 ????

i have the need of using windows for school, and parallel was suggested but when reading the software requirements i notice that requires "intel core duo"
is there a version for my prcessor; is my processor about to be out of business?

I think it depends on exactly what uses you are going to put your system to when running Windows, because while Parallels runs on a Core Solo, and does so reasonably well, if your needs are for applications that would load the CPU to any great extent, I think you could find yourself a little frustrated at the lack of good performance.
In that situation, BootCamp would likely be better, since unlike Parallels, it only permits one OS to run at a time, thus you wouldn't be sharing system resources (memory and CPU power specifically) between macOS and Windows, both of which are rather demanding in that regard.
If your need for Windows is rather more casual however, Parallels should be fine, and can be improved somewhat by adding RAM.
As for your Core Solo, bearing in mind that it is more powerful than the vast majority of Macs in daily service around the world, I think it's more than adequate for most tasks. Maxing out the RAM would help, but that's as true of the Core Duos as you Solo.

Dualdisc cd side won't play on my mac mini intel core duo w Superdrive

Shakira Fijacion Oral DualDisc "CD" side will insert and then automatically reject from my Mac Mini - Intel Core Duo. The DVD side plays fine. Unfortunately iTunes not smart enough to work with DVD side. There is a query in IPOD forum about Springsteen DualDisc also failing on intel mini mac that is listed at "answered" but for the life of me, I can't tell if you are supposed to just not buy DualDisc or else take the Mac Mini back for a new drive.

Mac Mini Intel Core Duo's did not ship until 2006 which seems plenty of time for Apple to announce 'we have a problem' and what their recommended solution.
Why would they do that ? I mean, they don't have a problem. The inventors of DualDisc made a type of disc that won't play in all players, and Apple can't really do anything about it. Superdrives are not made by Apple, it's just Apple's name for a DVD burner; the Superdrives that are found in various Macs come from several different manufacturers, and although Apple probably ensures that the Superdrive and the Mac work well together, they won't test whether it works with each type of disc (usually, the manufacturer will).
However, that is probably limited to redbook/standards-compliant discs; since a DualDisc's CD side doesn't comply with any standard other than "DualDisc", and because it is not considered important enough to be officially supported by most (if not all) manufacturers, they probably won't test them since they're bound to get mixed results anyway.
Similarly I don't remember seeing a "strictly redbook only" disclaimer on any of the media available from Apple describing the capabilities of its Superdrive when I was making my mac mini buying decision.
You didn't see one because it is not required. Asking that Apple (or any other company) warns you that their players won't play non-redbook CDs is a bit like asking that they tell you everything your optical drive won't play. Apple claims that their Superdrives will read CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R DL, which aren't only a bunch of weird-looking letters, but also correspond to a standard. When you see a CD logo on a drive, it means that it will play redbook-compliant CDs. Your Dell player simply does more that what it is supposedly capable of, but because one (or many) optical drives will play DualDisc doesn't mean that they all have to.

Hitachi PJ-TX300 projector and Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo?

My PJ-TX300 projector is hooked up via its PC connector to my Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, via a DVI to VGA adapter (which came with the Mini from Apple) plugged into the Mac mini. I cannot get a clear screen picture at any resolution: there is always ghosting. Can you advise me?

Ghosting would typically implicate the video cable. Where did you get it? It sounds like you may have a very cheaply constructed VGA cable and a better one is needed.

Mac mini intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz keeps freezing up

I have a refurbished (bought from Apple) Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with upgraded 8GB of RAM, OS is latest Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I have had this machine less than one year, and in the past five days it has started to freeze up quite often.
After running Disk Utility and getting a message that said to repair the disk, I hve run Disk Utility from the original disk to fix the problem. No effect, I still have regular freezes and often. I have run Disk Utility again several times, and have had to repair Permissions several times, though the Repair Disk says the hard drive is okay. Only the Permissions keep getting messed up, and this happens quickly.
I have no large number of video files on the desk top.
I checked some threads and ran Activity Monitor and Control. Control when I ran "disk0" did not show any problem. I do not know how to interpret the Activity Monitor readings.
Short of wiping the computer and reinstalling everything, is there a way to determine what is wrong with the computer?

You can ignore repeated Permission fixes if the last line says completed in it.
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM you have for real & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.

I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?

BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

I am thinking of "transferring" my "old" HK Soundsticks USB for my sis's new Mac mini Intel Core Duo.
Is there any issue or problem with the mac detecting the USB speakers?? I thought I read somewhere here a while back that generally the Intel Macs might have a problem detecting the USB speakers.

Hi NewMoses, thanks for replying but you have to be specific, if you just bought your Soundsticks, it is most likely the HK Soundsticks II, is yours?? which has a normal audio jack, unlike the 1st Soundsticks, which has a USB input.
I am sure the Soundsticks II with the audio jack would have not much problem on the new Intel Macs, since they are what I considered a "physical audio input", unlike the USB, which involves the USB technology, where more complication may come into play.

Mac Mini Intel Core Duo

FCP Studio requires an AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card .. does that mean that it is not compatible on a Mac Mini Intel Core Duo? The Mini's Intel GMA950 graphics processor is not PCI Express, is it? I'd appreciate some feedback, thanks

Mac Mini (Core Solo 1.5GHz) won't boot. Any ideas?

My Mac Mini is hanging when I try to boot up (just sits at the grey apple screen and the progress wheel just cycles indefinitely). I've tried booting into single user mode and running fsck and the disk is fine. If I try booting in verbose mode it seems to hang with an error pertaining to the AirPort card.
I've mounted it in target mode and backed up /Library and /Users in case a nuke&pave is required and have grabbed a copy of system.log to get the error messages. Here's the entire boot sequence up to the point where it hangs:

Anyone got any ideas how I can try to fix the problem? I don't actually use the AirPort card as it's wired into my router so if there's any way I can disable it that might be useful.
In the case of a nuke&pave is there anything else I should back up besides /Library and /Users?

I mounted it in target mode again and manually applied the 10.5.4 combo updater ad it now boots again.

Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.0GHz Mid 2007 RAM upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.0GHz Mini - I've gone to the Crucial website and it's recommended via the scanner software on there, a 2GB kit (2 x 1GB sticks - http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=C8AF5484A5CA7304) however I thought that this model could handle up to 4GB (although only "see" 3GB), yet the Crucial site says that the 4GB kit from here http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT25664AC667 isn't suitable for use?
Is their site wrong on this matter or is there a specialised 4GBG kit they produce for the Mac Mini?

Crucial sticks to official maximums given by the manufacturer. This is because they don't want to get ensnared in support issues when firmware updates are required or when you don't see the literal full amount of memory the hardware (sticks of RAM) supply.
Other World Computing is more helpful in this regard, and guarantees their memory just as well as Crucial does.

If you currently have a Mini, then no you will not be able to have n. The Mini does not currently come with the correct hardware to utilize the n standard.
I would say go back to the Apple store and talk to whom ever told you that any Intel Mac will support n. They were way off. As far as I know only Intel Macs with the Core 2 Duo processor can support n, and I think there are a couple models within that group that can't do n as well, like the low end iMac, although that may be a Core Duo instead of the C2D.

Should I install OS 10.10 on a mac mini Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53Mhz 2009?

Hi ... I asked this question a few months back ... and I received a few "YES YOU SHOULD" answers ... but I am hoping that more people have had a chance to experience the OS on a low powered machine. I have a Mac mini 2009 (2.53Mhz , 500 hard drive and 4 gig memory). The mini is currently very happy with 10.8.5 (but I have yet to transfer all my media over from my Mini 1.6Mhz running 10.6) .
So will I see a performance drop if I install the free 10.10 upgrade ?

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Hello there,
Im thinking of purchasing a Mac Mini I plan to partition the drive and install Windows XP as well.My question is on the windows side there is a game that I want to see if it works.
If any one has a Mac mini with Windows XP installed can you please download this demo and get back to me to see how it works on the mac mini.
The game is a R/C simulation game and its a demo how you control the car use the arrow buttons

Mac Mini Intel Core Duo refuses to boot.

Hi all,
Here's a run down of the issue I'm experiencing. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
I installed the most recent Security Update. The Mini booted fine, but all applications were taking several minutes to launch, and some would not launch at all.
Tried to connect to another computer using Screen Sharing, but the application never opened. Tried to Force Quit. Wouldn't respond. Tried to kill with Terminal, but not luck -- Terminal wouldn't open. Tried to restart, but Log Out kept failing due to Screen Sharing.
Soon after, everything became unresponsive. Cold reboot by holding the power button.
Start up stopped at white screen, gray Apple logo, endlessly turning gear. Waited patiently. Nothing.
Cold restart. Boot to Tiger disk and run Disk Utility. HDD required minor repair (bad header). Fixed with Disk Utility. Tried to Verify/Repair Permissions, Disk Utility informed me "No valid packages."
Restarted; no luck. Gray apple, spinning gear.
Booted to Single-User Mode to run fsck, but start up stalled after "Apple Intel CPUPowerManagement: initialization complete." Waited a few minutes. Nothing.
Cold reboot. Try booting to Verbose, same story, only start up froze after "CSRHIDTransition Driver ... Done."
Start losing my mind. Reset the PMU; computer starts to sound like a vacuum. Gray screen, spinning gear. Nothing.
Figure out I should reset the SMC. Do it. Nothing.
Might as well try resetting the PRAM. Nothing. Gray apple, spinning gear.
Try booting to Safe Mode. Nothing. Gray apple, spinning gear.
Boot the Mini as a target drive, find I am perfectly able to access the drive and all information from a MacBook. Run Leopard's Disk Utility and find the same issue as before -- bad header, maybe from all of the cold reboots? Disk Utility fixes the issue, verified as okay. However, Disk Utility will not allow me to Verify/Repair Permissions (the buttons were dimmed).
Try to boot the Mini as an external Firewire drive from the MacBook. Nothing. Gray screen, apple, gear.
Boot the MacBook as a target/FW drive, and it boots perfectly on the Mini. I guess it's not a hardware issue. Thank heaven.
I've exhausted all of my options.
What did the Security Update do to the Mini?
Are there any other options besides reformatting?
And if I do reformat, will re-installing the Security Update put me right back in this situation?

Welcome! From reading your post, you seem to be doing all the right things.

No. Chances are that you had a system-level issue before the update, and the update finished it off. Like the chip in my windshield from two years ago cracking overnight after some ice.
I would try installing the correct Combo Updater onto the internal drive when booted from another unit. If that doesn't do it, run an Archive and Install from your factory discs or a retail copy of Leopard. Be sure to be backed up first.
