Mac mini to S video or composite adapter for tv - nothing but horiz lines

Have an older analog Toshiba TV. Can't use HDMI so has to be S video or component. I am not receiving a picture, just horizontal lines. Any help is appreciated.

The component adapter won't work but the S-Video one from Apple should. Try starting in Safe mode and see if you get a usable screen on the TV under conditions of a Safe start.

Can the early 2006 MAC Mini support a DVI to HDMI adapter for a TV Monitor?

Hi, I can't see why not...
Supports digital resolutions up to 1920x1200 and analog resolutions as high as 1920x1080.

  • S-video to composite adapter

This may sound like a silly question, but I was reading the specs on the new PB's tonight and it says that they come with an S-video to composite adapter. I have a PB that I bought in July 2004 that looks exactly like the newest release, but can't find my S-video to composite adapter. Is this a new thing with the new PB's or should I have one as well?
This would come in mighty handy for me is the reason I am asking.
    Thanks,
    JB

They are standard but luckily they are dirt cheap to just buy another if you lose one. I have a pile of them, some just a S-Video male on one side and an RCA female on the other, maybe an inch long. A few bucks at Radio Shack or computer stores.

  • Mac Mini G4 No video real puzzle help please.

How would you fix a PowerPc Mac Mini with no video output?  Can't run diagnostic, and only have access to windows keyboard and mouse and the Mac has no OS.

Hmmm, not even a white screen?
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup?
CMD is usually the Windows key, but may be the alt key occasionally.

You will need an adaptor to convert the plug only, the voltage is fine.

My mac mini won't back up to my Seagate external drive but can read the information on it.
Can i back up to it at all? and how do i do it?
    Simon

I suspect the Seagate is not formatted to be used with the Mac. The correct format would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled), if you just bought the EHD then almost certainly it's formatted to be used with MS Windows machines. This is easy to fix, here are instructions on how to format it:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
After formatting Time Machine http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 will launch and will begin backing up. The first backup will take some time however after the first backup it will go pretty quickly.
NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After formatting all data will be erased, so please if you have data on that move it to the internal HD first and then format. Then once you have backed up you will have a backup copy of the data. Also NEVER EVER use a backup disk to be used to store data. The reason being is if that drive crashes you have not only lost the data you have lost it's backup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, no way you should need iWork to "Agree"!?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
And if you're really at 10.4.2, then get this and apply it...

  • Mac mini set to make external drive default for storing media

Running multiple computers in the home how do I set an external NAS device as the default for all iTunes content so it can work with my Mac Mini and AppleTV? Mac Mini does not have enough storage space for all the media and rather than keep music on one computer and movies and TV Shows on another would rather have it all in once place...

  • Mac Mini and DVI-Video PAL Adapter no picture

    Hello,
I have a mac mini g4 (late 2005) and the pal video-adapter to connect this thing to my tv however I don't get a picture out of this on the tv. In the system preferences I don't have the choice to a pal setting but just 800x600 in different colors and 1024x768.
When the mac boots with tv connected (s-video cable) I see some flickering but nothing comes out of it.
Any hints how to proceed here?
    konstantin

After rebooting the mac mini with a vga-monitor connected, then unplugging that monitor and plugging in the tv adapter it is working.
If somebody could shed some light, what has happened there I would really be interested..

  • Mac Mini (2009) to video output - surely it must be possible?

I've just bought a Mac Mini to replace my Apple TV, in an attempt to get a single Mac running my entire home entertainment setup. I have a 5-USB Mac Mini, 2.26 GHz core 2 duo, 4 GB RAM, 120 GB HD.
I'm trying to connect to a 6-year-old Hitachi Illumina projector. My first attempt was with Apple's Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, and whilst this worked, it turns out that my widescreen projector (for reasons known only to Hitachi) doesn't advertise any widescreen resolutions - it's 1024x768 or similar all the way. (The projector's native resolution is WVGA at 854x480). I've tried SwitchResX, but I can't get the projector to do anything other than 4:3 or similar no matter what I try.
Next, I tried Apple's Mini-DVI to Video adapter. Unfortunately, I didn't read the description for that adapter, so didn't see that it doesn't work with the Mini. I just assumed that since the Mini has Mini-DVI, and since it's the ideal machine for a media center, it would work. But it doesn't - the adapter isn't detected by the Mini at all.
So my question is: is there any way to get video (either composite or S-Video) out of the Mini? Would an Apple DVI to Video adapter, plugged into the Mini's "Mini-DVI to DVI" adapter, do the job?
My projector has Composite, S-Video, Component and VGA connectors on the back (no HDMI). There has got to be a way to get this to work... any ideas much appreciated!

I notice you mention being limited to a 4:3 resolution with the VGA connection. If you use composite or S-video you will be using an SD signal, which will normally just be 640x480, which is a 4:3 aspect ratio. The VGA and component connections should offer the highest resolutions. What is the model number of your projector, as I can find very little information about the Illumina series - and what I can find relates to 4:3 only.
