Mac mini won't connect to monitor

My son's mac mini crashed. He had to reboot and now he can't connect to the monitor. It's saying he can't connect with the HDMI connection, which he doesn't connect with anyway. Where should we start looking? Thanks!

Gloworm, I'm having the same problem.  If you are using a flat screen TV, you can reboot by turning on your Mac mini, then depress the following keys: Option+Command+P+R.  Wait until you hear the second or third chime, then let the keys go.  It will bring you back to the sign-in page.

  • New Mac mini won't connect with monitors stating 'unsupported Mode'

Hi I'm new to Mac and just purchased a Mac Mini.
The guy in store gave me an adapter so I can use my current screen.
However when I first tried it the screen was very large however I put this down to needing to change the settings on the screen. Although when I tried it didn't work.
Now it is sating it's 'unsupported' and is also very large and appears in an equivalent 'safe mode' as you would get on windows - if that's makes sense?
Please can someone help as I don't really have time to get to store, and need this for our business
    Chris

    Hi
    The monitors are;
    Optronix OP-158BS
Digix screen which does both tv and PC.
I believe it's a VGA connection and the apple store gave us an adapter for this.
    Many thanks

  • Mac mini won't connect to my wireless router!

I just bought my mac mini server then connected it to wifi, then after 2 weeks I had to go abroad for a week so I just turned off the switch connecting to my mac, without switching off my mac mini server. then when I get back home my mac mini won't connect to my wifi. I tried everything from manually setting up IP and DHCP nothing works. What happened?
    thanks for help,
    Jakarta

I didn't reset the machine/router itself because 2 of my computer is still connected to wifi-and working perfectly, but the mac mini server cannot connect to wifi.
what I did was to set up the "networking utilities"-having said that, what I did was to connect all over again to wifi, this did not work. I did tried to change from DHCP to manually set up IP, neither of these didn't work.
    I'm now stucked!

  • Mac mini won't connect to printer unless other mac on network turned on

mac mini won't connect to printer unless other mac on network turned on

Copy the IP address of the printer from the Mac that can connect to it by itself. The IP shows when you start any print job.
Disable Printer sharing on this Mac.
Go to the Mac that cannot connect by itself and set up the printer from scratch using the printer's IP. To do this:
System Preferences / Print & Scan, then click the + sign, nxt select Add Printer or Scanner and click on IP. Fill in the info.

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet "ISP Failed"

My 2012 Mac Mini isn't connecting wirelessly to the internet. All of my other devices connect perfectly. It was working when we first set it up in our new house a few days ago. And now randomly it will not. It continues to say that I am connected to the network but that the ISP, Internet, and Server have failed. In the Network Diagnostics the IPS, Internet, and Server are also jumping from red to yell to green to yellow. I am on OS 10.9.4, 2.5 GHz i5, 16GB ram. Any ideas how to get it to work?

Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, restart as usual and post the results.

  • Mac mini won't connect to internet

I brought a new mini mac over Christmas and its been great. Until recently I decides not to connect to the Internet. I have a Bt Home hub that several apple products connect to without an issue. But my mac mini doesn't connect so easily if at all.
I find the network on the wifi search, click to connect and it keeps telling me the Password is wrong, even though its been connected before and all my other devices use it.
    What can i do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sam

Power off and then back on the router
Create another network loctation and see if that resolves the problem

  • New Mac Mini won't connect with new Dell Monitor

I connected the power cord and then the HDMI from Mini to Monitor, but it said it needed a DVI-D cable. or it would in 5 minutes go into power save mode, which it did, so there's no picture from Mini Where would that connect on the Mini? Where can I get one and what is on the other end?
BTW, How can I tell if the Mini is on? I don't see any lights, but I did hear a sound the first time

There is a little light next to the black dot on the front of the Mac Mini.
light on = mac mini is on
light blinking slow = mac mini is sleeping
light off = mac mini is off
Did you push the power button on the back right hand corner of the mac mini.....?

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet using Apple products (Safari, iTunes, AppStore). Date and time are frozen to the moment CPU is booted up. Firefox works. Cannot update.

For the past few days my Mac Mini has been having issues.
Safari won't connect to internet, but Firefox does.
Time and date are frozen. Only resets when copmuter is re-booted.
Unable to update via App Store and iTunes won't connect either.
    Please advise.

    Hi again,
Let me ask for some better help for you that is familiar with this problem (if in fact it is a similar problem with the IP address and your ISP.
The other topic concerning this can be found at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2725608
It is a somewhat lengthy thread but may just apply to your situation.
Anyways I will see if I can call on some better help for you. Hang in there. Best to arm yourself with enough info before contacting Comcast so they might know what you are dealing with fully.
    littleshouders
edit: I have posted for some extra help for you that may have a better idea of what's going on if it is your ISP and their modem and how it handles the IP address causing Safari and iTunes not to connect. Hang in there it may take awhile but I'm sure someone will pop in to help.

  • 2014 Mac Mini won't detect Dell monitor on startup

On a cold start or waking from sleep it is necessary to reset the PRAM in order for the Mini to recognize a Dell P2014H.  Restarts are not a problem.
This was not an issue with an older MacBook Pro or an Air at the Genius Bar.  I have resolved this by setting preferences to never turn the display off but don't consider this a permanent fix.
I'm running 10.10.1 and connected via VGA to a Thunderbolt port.  The monitor is only 7 months old so I'm not inclined to replace it yet or add even more cables to my collection just to find that doesn't fix anything.  In fact when another 2014 Mini was connected to my monitor at the Apple store it had the same problem.
On the other hand our 2012 Mini has never had issues with a Dell U2412M.   So what's up Apple?

I just bought a Mac Mini with latest operating system 10.10.1 and had the same problem. I also used a monitor with HDMI cable. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Apple Care tech but no solutions. I took it back to shop and they tested it but did not have a HDMI cable and used a thunderbolt adapter. It worked fine. Bought a Thunderbolt adapter for HDMI cable and problem solved. Both mouse and keyboard now wake up system. Perhaps a future update will solve this but for now I'm happy.

  • Mac mini won't connect to internet two days after installing 10.4.4

Two days after I installed 10.4.4 on my Mac mini. It will no longer connect to the internet. At first I thought it was just the airport extreme card malfunctioning. So today I turned off the airport extreme card, and tried the built-in ethernet and I'm having the same problem. The odd thing with the airport extreme card is that it showing that its connected to the right network but won't do anything.
    Any suggestions?
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hmm, this is interesting. I seem to be having the
same problem. I too have a Mac Mini and upgraded to
10.4.4 a couple of days ago. It doesn't seem to be
pulling an IP address from our DHCP server(Win and
Lin clients are working fine), and when I give it a
static IP, I can't ping anything from the Mini.
However, I can ping the Mini from other
boxes. It does it with wifi as well as ethernet. I
know the wifi AP is working fine - other clients are
running with it, and the Cat5 I used to connect the
Mini to a switch should be working fine(it was what
the access point is/was using to connect to the
    switch).
Maybe its totally unrelated, but it your situation
    seems eerily similar to mine.
It does your situation does sound very close to mine. Like you said in your post I can ping the mini from other machines and I get responses back, but I can't ping anything from the mini.
The more I think about this problem I'm not sure if its hardware related, software related, or both. I wish I had another hard drive that I could boot from externally to see if my theory is correct.

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet with airport

    Hello All,
I have a three year old Mac Mini 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo at my office.  We all use macs and connect to the internet using a Time Capsule (Simultaneous Dual Band II).  Everyone else's computers are connecting to the internet and working just fine, but my computer constantly keeps failing to connect properly.  I have to continually reboot my computer to get access.  It will connect and stay connected for a little while, but then quit working all of a sudden again.  I would say it disconnects about 10-15 times during the day.  When I open up the diagnostic utility, it shows the following:
    Airport - Green Light
    Airport Settings - Green Light
    Network Settings - Green Light
    ISP - Failed
    Internet - Failed
    Server - Failed
Whenever I start having problems, everyone else's computers are connected and working just fine. I cannot figure out what the problem is and why my computer keeps showing that i'm connected, but won't let me access the internet.  This problem just started a few weeks ago, but it is getting worse because it is starting to happen more frequently.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Whenever I start having problems, everyone else's computers are connected and working just fine. I cannot figure out what the problem is and why my computer keeps showing that i'm connected, but won't let me access the internet.
With the information that you have provided in your post, it seems clear that the Time Capsule, which is providing the wireless network, is working just fine, providing a good wireless signal to the area. Since that's the case, there is really not any adjustment or change to the Time Capsule that we can recommend.
You might look for sources of wireless interference like cordless phones or other electronics that may be in close proximity to the Mac Mini, or obvious obstructions in the signal path, particularly any metal objects like a filing cabinet or shelving system.
Other than that, we would recommend that you post in the Mac Mini forum for some possible answers, or the forum for the operating system that you are running on the Mac Mini. Start here and select the area(s) that you need.
    https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
It's always possible of course, that the wireless card in the Mac Mini is failing, or the internal antenna connector has an intermittment connection, but we'll leave that diagnosis to the experts in the forums for the Mac Mini or your operating system.
If we missed something that would point to the Time Capsule as the source of connection problems with the Mac Mini, please let us know.

  • Mac min won' t connect to yahoo

I recently purchased a mac mini (have been pc user for long time). I ordered
snow loepard and upgraded to it. I find that i can't connect to yahoo while
it can connect to google and wikipedia fine. I don't think anyhting is wrong
with my router and internet setup since the same thing works with my pc just fine. It is not wireless issue either since i connect it to lan directly. since
I just purchased from apple , I would expect it to work out of box but it is
    not. I am appalled.

There are a number of possible explanations, but it would have helped to have given us more detailed information, such as did yahoo work before you upgraded to Snow Leopard and which browser you are using (Safari, Firefox, etc?) -- rather telling us that you are "appalled"
The folks who answer questions on this forum are just regular Mac users, not Apple employees. So "attitude" won't buy you much free help here.
Assuming you are using Safari as your web browser, I'd suggest using the "Safari" menu to "Reset cache ..."
Additionally, since this sounds like a name resolution or routing issue, I'd type in the full correct name of yahoo in the address bar of your browser -- namely www.yahoo.com -- and not yahoo or yahoo.com -- or use this link:
    http://www.yahoo.com
If that doesn't work, try using the IP address of www.yahoo.com, namely:
    http://209.131.36.158/
If none of this works, please report back with fuller information about what browsers you are using and whether yahoo worked before your upgrade to Snow Leopard.

  • Old Power Mac G3 won't connect to monitor

Before I consign it to the recycling depot I need to retrieve some files from my old G3, which I've rarely turned on for years. Problem is, it won't connect to the Sony monitor - no signal. The G3  makes all the right noises, as does the monitor, but then I just get the 'no signal' message on the monitor. Checked the input setting and the connections and can't find a problem. Worked perfectly last time I started it up about a year ago.
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be or an alternative method of seeing/accessing files on the G3 gratefully received!

    Hi Ulessa,
    Is this a Beige G3:
      or
    or a "Blue & White" G3:
Although released very close to each other in time, they are quite different and need different troubleshooting. Example: The Beige G3 may give no video at startup if the internal backup battery (or "PRAM" battery) is dead; the B&W is not as dramatic when faced with a dead battery.

  • Mac Mini won't connect at Gigabit speed to Gigabit switch

    Hi there
My mac mini 1.8 Core Duo (10.5.6) will not connect to my Netgear GS108 switch at Gigabit speed. In "System Preferences -> Network -> Ethernet" if I try to manually set the speed to Gigabit the machine loses the network connection. I can successfully connect at 100Mbs only.
I'm using my Bebox (Speedtouch) ADSL modem/router as the DHCP server. The mac mini (and all other computers on my LAN including my tera nas) is connected directly to the Netgear switch. The switch is then in turn connected to my BeBox. My NAS box successfully connects to the switch at full Gigabit speed and I have ruled out any cabling issues.
I think I once read a post from someone who had experienced the same thing and only managed to connect at Gigabit speeds when running Vista....
Thanks for reading and I look forward to your help!
    Tony

thankyou for your suggestion, see console log below, basically I have copied from the second that I manually changed the ethernet speed from 10Mbps to 1000Mbs...it doesn't look like it tells us much (my mac is set to map to my NAS on startup using an automator script...don't know why leopard doesn't support this kinda thing better.....)

  • Mac mini won't connect to internet despite displaying wifi connection

My Mac Mini says it is connected to the internet, but when I attempt to load a website it just continuously says the webpage is loading for a few minutes until eventually saying "This webpage is not availabe" (Chrome).
The internet works fine on all of the other devices in the apartment (iMac, Macbook Pro x 2, iPhones, Windows laptop, PS3, etc.).
I have tried to find the answer elsewhere on the internet but nothing has seemed to work.
When I run diagnostics, on the lefthand side the ISP, Internet, and Server dots go from green to red every few seconds. When they turn red they each say "Failed" underneath them.
I have no idea what the issue could be. The Mac Mini is running OS X Mavericks and its software is up to date.
Another point to mention is that, even if the wi-fi is working on the other devices, if I reset the wi-fi it occassionally works on the Mac Mini for a couple of minutes or so.

First off you are making the common mistake of confusing the WiFi LAN (Local Area Network) with the internet (a.k.a. WAN or Wide Area Network). Your LAN is the gateway to the internet. It is entirely possible to have a solid connection to the LAN and all the devices on the LAN without having an internet connection.
When you say "..reset the wifi.." did you reset everything or just the router?
The correct procedure would be to
begin with the devices on the LAN (WiFi network) and power each of them down,
    then power down the router,
if there is a separate modem end by powering it down.
Give everything a good 30 seconds or so
power up the modem and wait for it to connect and stabalize (all the lights quit flashing.)
If there is a separate router then power it up and wait for it to stabalize,
next power up the mini and wait for it to connect then test to see if it is connecting to the internet.
Finally, one at a time power up each of the other network devices waiting for each to connect before going to the next.
It is important that you reset everything and the order in which you reset the various network devices is CRITICAL.
