Mac os 10.4 on dvd, need to make cd's

I have found a dvd with the mac 10.4 os but my old g3 does not have a dvd drive. I do not have another mac to use to start it. I was wanting to know if I load the dvd to my pc, can I divide it up into smaller segments to write to cd to be able to load onto the old g3?

I have never heard of anyone being able to do that, no.
There are a few Tiger CD sets around. You may want to look for them.

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?

running on a mac osx 10.7.5 and need to import video from a dvd to edit in on final cut X

I'd try Handbrake. Copy the Video_TS file from the DVD to the Desktop. Then use Handbrake to convert the file compatible with Final Cut X

  • Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap). Any ideas?

Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap and doesn't provide any kind of professional DVD authoring). Any ideas?

This comes up a lot these days.
Practically speaking, there are really four options for the Mac platform: Toast (<$100),  Adobe Premier Productiom ($1,600 to buy or $50/month to rent),  find a copy of Final Cut Studio from 3rd  party (+/- $1,000 new) or a boxed edition of iLife to get iDVD ($50 - $90 on Amazon new).
The other question everyone has is how many OS versions before iDVD or FCS breaks? No one knows, but Apple has said they're no longer supporting these legacy apps. Of course, no one is mandated to upgrade to a new OS unless they buy a new computer. So if it works on a system, stay with it as long as it makes sense.
    Good luck.

  • Moving Garageband Music Files to MyBook for Mac External Hard Drive on OSX 10.5.8  I'm a musician and need to make space on my mac hd. Is it safe to move music files there and delete them on the mac? Thanks!

use a MyBook for Mac external hard drive.
I need space on garageband or the entire hard drive, since I am getting the "need space on the hard drive" messages.
It's scary to move my precious music files!
How should I move them to the external and feel safe about doing so?
Or are there other methods besides the obvious, clearing caches, deleting the trash and downloads, etc., that are recommended?
I am doing music now and producers are waiting for the new vocals!
    Help!
    Thanks!

The process is as simple as just copying your Garageband project to the external drive and deleting from the macs hard drive. But before you delete anything you really need to back them up to someplace else also. Having just one copy is not safe. Get another external drive, DVDs or even flash drives, you absolutely need anything important in more then one place.

  • I've ordered a new mac book pro 15" and i need to clean hard drive off my old PC...not really to move them to the mac, but just to save in case needed; mostly pics and office docs....any suggestions?

Buy an external USB hard drive and copy your data to it.  Either that or burn them all to single or double layer DVDs (depending on amount of data you have).  Or if it's really a small amount, consider putting it all on a USB memory stick.

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

  • Problem in Formatting using Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD (FULL)

    Hi all
I've just bought a Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD -Full- (not upgrade)
When I boot from the installation DVD nd then
after few minutes the screen turns to black nd I can't do anything!! (MacBook Pro 2009)
I tried using my iMac nd the installation DVD works smooth nd fine!
I don't know why MBP is not processing the installation steps nd the screen suddenly turns to black!
    Waiting ...
    Thanks

Make sure your MacBook pro is not too new for the disk in question.
Find the serial number for the MacBook Pro, and look at the three characters labelled ABC below, and tell us the numbers they are represented by:
    xxABCxxxx
Don't give us the full serial number. The x can be any letter or number.
Then tell us the 10.6 version labelled in fine print on the DVD.
That will tell us if the Mac is too new for your Snow Leopard Disc, and you need to use the original MacBook Pro discs that came with your Mac to install 10.6.

  • Have a mac more than 5 years old need to update software but i dont know how? what update do i need? any help appreciated.

im trying to update the softare on my mac book, initially itunes but it wont update due to the software being behind. since my mac book is more than 5 years old i cant get the support from the apple website. so some knowledge from the community would be great. ill try and help what i can but not very computer literate

You need to buy and install a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and then run Software Update; 10.6.8 is sufficient to run the latest version of iTunes.

  • Problem burning DVDs, NEED HELP QUICK

    Hey,
I need help as soon as possible. I am using iMovieHD 5.0.2, along with iDVD 5.0.1. I have made a movie about 8 minutes long and all in all it totals 7.68Gigs, and i've tried burning it to a dvd. I did all the steps it says to, going to Share, sharing it with iDVD, then trying to burn it in iDVD. Yet whenever it asks me to insert a recordable dvd, i do, and the computer fails to recognize it. I am using a DVD-R, 4.7GB discs, 4x. I then realized that the movie i was trying to burn was larger than this disc, which might be the problem. I then created a 200mb movie and tried, but the same problem happened. My G5 is not recognizing the blank dvds, yet when i insert a dvd that was made a while ago from a different source, yet the same type of dvd, it plays fine.
The problem seems to be in recognizing the blank DVD, and im pretty sure that its compatible with this computer, being that it plays when theres already a movie on it.
Can someone please help me quickly, this is for a production company and we're losing out every day that i dont get this done. Thanks a million.

I don't have an answer, but as an initial diagnostic step, try loading a blank DVD while iDVD is not running. First open your System Preferences and select the CD/DVD icon. Make sure the options selected do not say "Ignore". Then load a blank disc. Depending on your preferences, you should get some sort of reaction - either a burn window opens or you get a prompt asking you what to do. If there's no reaction from the Finder, it would indicate that the drive is not recognizing the blank DVD. This would be either a hardware or a media compatibility problem. Only way to tell for sure is to run out and try a different brand of media.

  • I have  a MAC OSX 10.4.11 and need to upgrade

I have  a MAC OSX 10.4.11 and need to upgrade.  I'm not too computer savvy but can handle basic things. How should I proceed?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a G3, no further upgrades are available.
If it's a G4 or G5, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.
If it's an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

  • SL install DVD needs to be repaired

First a little back story, i'm trying to update my Macbook Pro from Tiger to SL. Backed up to 1.5TB USB before I started (thankfully!) The first few tries I just tried to update and the installer stalled. Then tried to archive and install to no avail. Then tried erase and install and error came up stating couldn't be installed. So I put the DVD in my PPC mirror drive tower and ran Disk Utility and it gives an error:
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Mac OS X Install DVD needs to be repaired.
however it cannot be repaired. Can't copy it to my external to burn new. Also called Apple and since I don't have an Apple order number they can't help me (ordered the install disc off Amazon).
Is there any help any one can give me besides cut my losses and stay with Tiger that I pain-stakingly reinstalled back on my Macbook?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jason

Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x) has no *Archive and Install* or *Erase & Install* option. There is only a single install option. The retail installer disc is white with a picture of a snow leopard on its lower section, a bold title that says "Mac OS X Snow Leopard" on the upper section, & the words "Install DVD" to the right in smaller lettering. Below that should be printed the version number it installs in still smaller grey type.
If the disc you got from an eBay seller offers *Archive and Install* or *Erase & Install* options, it is not a Snow Leopard disc. If the installer disc will start up a PPC Mac, it is not a Snow Leopard disc. If it is a black disc with an X on it, it is probably a Leopard (OS 10.5.x) disc. If it is a grey disc, it is a system-specific installer disc & will work only with the specific Mac model it was intended for.
If your disc looks like the one described in the first paragraph, except the lettering to the right says "Upgrade" or "CPU Drop-in DVD" instead of "Install DVD," it is a special Snow Leopard upgrade disc, not the retail version. If you have one of these discs, please let us know because they have special install requirements.
Assuming you have a genuine Snow Leopard retail disc, first make sure it is not scratched, which could prevent the installer from completing. Also make sure you have at least 1 GB of working memory installed in the MBP. or you will not be able to start it up from the Snow Leopard DVD.
Also note that you cannot repair a DVD, so a message like "The volume _Mac OS X Install DVD_ needs to be repaired" means you are not choosing the right item for Disk Utility to repair. Try starting up the MBP from the Snow Leopard installer disc (hold down the C key just after powering it up with the disc in the MBP & continue holding down the key until you see the Apple logo on the screen), then run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, making sure you choose the internal HD for the repair & not the DVD.

  • My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac. It says that I need to install the lastest version of itune (11.1) but when I try to update itunes it says that I have the current version 10.6.3. Can someone please help!

    Hi,
My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac book, it says that I need to install to latest version of itunes 11.1. When I go to itunes and try to update, it says that I have the latest version (10.6.3). Can someone please help me!
    thanks

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)
