Mac OS X 10.5 Wont Install

I have a Imac G5 with isight and i am trying to install Mac OS X 10.5 but when I restart, the installer does not open and the computer just restarts normally. How can I make this Work?

What 10.5 Disc are you using? You will need the full retail version of Leopard (the black disc), those gray Leopard Install Disc's only work with the machine that they came with.

  • Help! Mac OS 9.2.1 wont install!

So I have been trying for about 3 almost 4 weeks now to install Mac OS 9.2.1 on my Power Macintosh 5200/75LC. So when I boot up and hold C down it gives me a message that says "Sorry, a system error occurred. error type 1010". So now I have another problem besides that, now OS 9 wont boot up at all because my friend copied everything from the OS 9.2.1 disc onto the desktop, and now when you turn the Mac on it says "The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive." so if anyone knows how to fix both of my problems please help, thank you!

    Hi, apple rOOlz -
Tom is quite correct - the highest OS supported by Apple for your PM5200 is OS 9.1 -
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25114
That machine can not be booted to any OS 9.2.x Install CD, including a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD. In addition, because the installer for the OS 9.2.1 download update is coded to check the validity of the machine it is being installed upon, it can not be used to upgrade an OS 9.1 install to OS 9.2.1.
At least not directly. If you must have OS 9.2.1 on that machine, there may be a way to do that using the OS 9 Helper utility available from here -
    OS9Forever.com Home Page
Note that OS 9 Helper requires the use of the OS 9.2.1 download update; it can not use an OS 9.2.1 Install CD. And, since it works only on top of an existing OS 9.1, you'll need to get that back onto the machine.
Article #120030 - Mac OS 9.2.1 - Download and Info
As Tom mentioned, copying the System Folder from an OS 9 Install CD (of any kind) will not work in order to gain a bootable OS - the files in that System Folder are non-standard, and, as the message indicates, will function only when run from the CD iteself (not when copied elsewhere).
Note - such copied System Folders may (or may not - experiences seem to vary) be usable as Classic under OSX, but in that mode it is being used as a program, not as an OS.

  • Mac Os 9.1 update wont install

Well I got the update from here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
and when I transfered the file to the desktop it tells me this
"The documentMacOS_9.1Update.smi.bin[] could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found." My iMac is a G3 CRT and its running 9.0.4

    Hi, Frank -
One of the differences between OS 9 download updates and installing off of a CD is that the download updates do not include any ability to install or update Language Kits.
There is a major change of Language Kit versions betwen OS 9.0.4 (and earlier) and OS 9.1 (and later) - the earlier version Language Kits are not usable in OS 9.1. When using an OS 9.1 Install CD, any installed kits can be updated; however, since the OS 9.1 download updater does not include that ability, they will refuse to run.
The primary solution is to use an OS 9.0.4 or earlier OS 9 Install CD to remove the Language Kits. Since you apparently do not have such a CD, you will need to use a different method.
    • Restart the machine, immediately press the Option and Spacebar keys, keep them held down until the desktop has fully loaded. This will prevent the OS from loading any installed Language Kits.
    • Locate and open the System file - it is loose in the System Folder; just double-click that file.
    • In that file will appear three types of files: keyboard layouts, represented by a document icon with a glyph of a keyboard added to it; sound files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a speaker added to it; and Worldscript files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a globe added to it.
    • Drag all of the Worldscript files (the ones with a globe on the icon) out of the System file. You could save them in an external folder; but, since they will not be re-usable in OS 9.1 or later, there's little point in doing that - throwing them away is okay.
    • Close the System file, then do a normal restart.
You should now be able to install the OS 9.1 update.
Note - if you do need to have certain Language Kits installed, you will need to acquire a retail OS 9.1 Install CD - there is no other source for them (they are not available as downloads).

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!
iv unistalled flash, iv checked plug ins it just wont work,

It would have been a great help to know precisely what Mac you have, so some of the following may not apply:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
(If you are running Mavericks: After years of fighting malware and exploits facilitated through Adobe's Flash Player, the company is taking advantage of Apple's new App Sandbox feature to restrict malicious code from running outside of Safari in OS X Mavericks.)
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

i boot into the 10.4 install dvd about 1/5 th into the install it says please try installing agian.

it has no os's onit and i plan to dual boot 10.4 and linux.
    thanks.
also im not going to buying a new mac unless its dead because i love it! + im broke if its dead my budget is £75

Has this Mac ever had OS X installed? If not, it needs a firmware update prior to installing OS X.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1395 The firmware update is installed while booted into OS 9.
Is your install DVD black or gray? A black installer is a retail version that you need. A gray installer is Mac model  specific & will only work on the Mac that it came with.
     Cheers, Tom
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

  • MAC OS 9.1 wont install on my imac

i have an imac (summer 2000) edition; mac os 9.0.4 and i am tring to update it but the last step before it can install it says,"MAC OS 9.1 must be installed from the CD when the Language Kit files are already installed."

Here is, maybe, the solution. I did it and it works. But, I have original Jaguar disk. So, you have to go to the page and to download standalone version of Recovery CD. Install it. After successful instalation, insert disk with Jaguar and follow instructions. You will get Classic Support on Mac 10.4.9! It does work like a dream!
Read first this article and try it!

  • EMac wont install OSX, fails on install with errors every time

I have a 1.25GHz emac that I just recently got, Well it wouldnt boot at first at all and had the Rom password crap on it. So i got rid of all of that and now it boots from the CD just fine it just wont install OSX im using a Retail Black disc for Tiger and it just wont get past a certain spot in the install and fails with errors every time. Any suggestions? Ive tried to install panther & Jaguar and neither of those discs will boot.
    Thanx
    Jeremy

Sometimes, the OSX installer wants a clean partition. As the computer is new to you and probably has no files on the drive you need, I suggest you wipe the drive before trying again. Boot from the install CD and choose "Open Disk Utility" from the installer's File menu. Use DU to erase and reformat the disk, choosing "Mac Extended (Journaled)" format.
This will clear any old files that are interfering with the installer and leave a blank slate.

  • Itunes 10.4 wont install

Itunes 10.4 wont install. The installer goes through the motions and then has a fatal error. Have re-downloaded it three times and still not working. Have seen this issue raised on non apple forums, but not with any decent fixes (other than go to to a genius bar) ..... I would like an 'official' apple fix for the problem.

That's why we didn't buy iPods as media players.
If we knew more about your computer hardware we could make recommendations.  It's either return the iPods or upgrade your operating system to at least Leopard so you can run iTunes 10.
To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number.
