Mac OS X Lion Mailboxes cannot be read in Snow Leopard mail.

Yesterday I made a backup of my Mail folder from the User Library, because I wanted to remove Lion by the usage of the Factory Disks, because Lion is too slow responsive. Now I am back to Snow Leopard, but I figured out that unlike Snow Leopard, Lion created a subfolder named V2 (which I suppose stands for Version 2). When I import my mailboxes back to Leopard Mail, It brings all the mailbox folders structure but without the contents (emails)!!!...
Any ideas?
Thanks

You cannot go backwards. If you wish to recover your mail, your only option is to reinstall Lion. At that point, you can either resolve whatever problem you were having, or export your mail so that you can use it in Snow Leopard.

  • Uninstallation of Mac OS X Lion and installation of OS X Snow Leopard

    Good evening,
my question is about uninstallation of Mac OS X Lion back to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I used to backup Time Capsule and i want to install the Time Capsule software, which I used while I had Snow Leopard. Now I can´t install the software because the OS X software version is to high. So I decided to install back the OS X Snow Leopard. When I opened the installation aplication it couldn´t be installed because the version of the installation aplication is to high. So I want to ask if there is any way to uninstall the OS X Lion and install back the Mac OS X Snow Leoprad?
    Thanks for the anwser

  • DICOM CD read as blank disk by lion but correctly read by Snow Leopard

I stuck a DICOM CD into my iMac hoping to read it with Osirix.
It was read by Lion as a blank CD.
However, it was correctly read by Snow Leopard.
    ? disk not finalized.
I am surprised at the discrepancy.
    Pls look into this.
    Thanks.

I have found the solution to the problem in the following post by BeanCurdNerd
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3413998?start=0&tstart=0
The DVD was cut in UDF format.
Default 64 bit Lion does not support UDF.
The solution was in the following post:
    I shutdown Lion.
I pressed the numbers "3" and "2" on the keyboard and the pressed the Power On button to turn on the Mac.
I kept "32" pressed during start up.
    Lion restarted in 32-bit mode.
Then my DVD was successfully read by OSX and Osirix successfully copied the patient's scan.
Thanks to rikkyfrombristol for discovering this workaround !
Saved me alot of heart-ache !!

  • I have mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to OS X Lion without going through OS X Snow Leopard?

can I upgrade to OS X Lion without going through OS X Snow Leopard?

    Yes.
Instead of upgrade, you can do fresh install Lion into another partition and so you would have multiboot 10.5.8 and 10.7.
If you wish to use the the exisiting 10.5.8 partition to install 10.7 Lion, you can first create a 10.7 DVD. And use the 10.7 DVD to do installation instead.
Here is how to create 10.7 DVD.

  • My laptop hard drive crashed, used to have lion now it is back to snow leopard. how do i get it back to lion again?

my laptop hard drive crashed, used to have lion now it is back to snow leopard. i lost all of my info, music, pictures, etc. how do i get it back to lion again? this is very frustrating because i paid $30 to download it and now i am unable to have it again.

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

  • Can I use Unix symbolic links between Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard Mail folders?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I partitioned my iMac HD to have two partitions: Macintosh HD has Mountain Lion; I reinstalled Snow Leopard on Macintosh HD 2. Best part: you can access your user-created files from EITHER disk partition. But not so OS X Mail. I wanted to revert to Snow Leopard, since I don't like the iOS-like Mountain Lion (swipe THIS!), but Mail is a problem since all my Snow Leopard Mail was successfully migrated over to Mountain Lion during upgrade.
Is there a way to use Unix symbolic links between actual OS X Mail folders in Mountain Lion and OS X Mail in Snow Leopard?
It seems the (trial) symbolic link created pointed to a blank file.

It's not a matter of "letting" each maintain its own database, William. By default, I believe, I have no control over what gets written. In fact, if there were a way to set a preference that says, use this index named "spotlightindexSL' only [while in SL], that might solve my problem. Then when booting up in ML, it would just go after the index it last made.
My guess is that while I am in ML or SL and not the other, there are all sorts of changes to files and the system freaks and says "Oh, now look at what a mess I've made — there are all sorts of files unaccounted for. Now I have to rebuild the whole thing."
I have 2 had drives in my Mac, both 500GB. One (Working Disk) has no operating system and all my files, and the other drive is partitioned 470/30gb with SL on the 470 and ML in the 30. When I restart in either OS, the auto-start Indexing as if for the very first time, and do both hard drives (in total: 3 partitions of files, not counting the ML Restore partition).
I know it all uncoventionally — just wanted to see what my $20 new OS will cost me in software upgrades, in particular my $1800 Adobe Design Suite CS4 and a few others.

  • Is the Mountain Lion so much better than the Snow Leopard that make it worth buying?

Is the Mountain Lion so much better than the Snow Leopard that I'm currently using and worth the money to buy it?  Is it more or less confusing to operate?

OS X 10.7-18.0+ will NOT run any current PPC based programs your running.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you have a MacPro like your signature says (the tower, not the laptop) then it's not going to have much of a performance loss as say the MacBook Pro's will.
Older, less powerful Mac's have performance losses with the newer OS X Lions, it might be best to stick with 10.6.8 on a older machine until it drops, then spend the money on all new software on a newer machine instead.
One guy was here today and had a 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo and it was struggling to run OS X Mountain Lion, Chrome and Photoshop.
It just didn't have the hardware horsepower for all that bloatware.
My advice if it's not a top end iMac or MacPro, then 2010 is the cut-off point, those 2010 machines and earlier are likely better off on 10.6.8 max.
It all depends upon one's perception of performance really.

  • Can Yosemite read a snow leopard Time Machine backup

Can Yosemite read a snow leopard Time Machine backup. Once I installed Lion over SL and it was a disaster since I could not get any docs or photos back, so had to put SL back on my old iMac.
Will 10.10 give the same problem or is there a way to migrate the old 10.6.8 data to 10.10?
    Thanks

Yes, you can do that. The only limitation is that you can't encrypt the backup volume.

Now I’m having intermittent problems with sending emails where Firefox freezes up. There is often a yellow warning above suggesting 32-bit mode, sometimes I can click to shift it that way, sometimes not.
    Anyone having these problems?
    Any suggestions?

  • Can you tell me why iPad 2 is not cannot to laptop with snow Leopard it doesn't cannot it

Can you tell me why iPad 2 is not cannot to laptop with snow Leopard it doesn't cannot it

You question is garbled. Are you saying your iPad cannot connect to a laptop with Snow Leopard? Restart your computer. Start iTunes and check for updates. If there are any updates to itunes download and install it. Then restart your computer and start iTunes.
Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
Finally connect your iPad to your computer. Use a USB on your computer that is not on the keyboard or connected to a hub.
If you do these things and it still doesn't show up in iTunes on your computer report back here and explain clearly just what happened.

  • Can I downgrade mail from Lion Mail(v.5) to Snow Leopard Mail(v.4)?

I just bought a new MacBook (13.3" running Lion OS 10.7.1). I -really- don't like the new format of mail and have problems with searching and other organization methods I worked out. I would like to downgrade from Lion Mail (v.5) to Snow Leopard Mail (v.4). I understand that some people have downgraded the whole operating system and saw those instructions in the discussion forums, but I would like to -only- downgrade mail. Any ideas?
Also, any recommendations on reducing my load times and delays in mail? I have over 100,000 emails over the past 4 years that are bogging down the system. I have tried archiving some older messages, but the system freezes and then downloads all the attachments from my oldest messages, filling up the entire hard disk. Thanks in advance!

There is a long thread about this -- https://discussions.apple.com/message/15733107#15733107 -- and the bottom line is that it is possible to install and run SL on a 2011 mini (with some rather wonky hacking...) BUT it doesn't work very well.  Performance benchmarks of the same machine in SL and Lion show the SL as definitely slower.
Plus people are having problems with certain features on the machine not working.
I think that your performance issues sound like something else is wrong...  The 2GB is a definite problem -- do you know that you can buy 8GB for the machine for $60, and getting it installed is a snap?  But the first thing that I would do is to install applejack and boot into single-user mode and run disk repair (aka fsck.)  Another question -- if you look on your console, do you see a voracious cpu-eating process called mds?  It's the indexer for Spotlight, and there is nothing to be done about it than to just wait it out, and your machine will work much better when it is done.  And Spotlight is not just a SL problem -- if you install SL it's going to want to index your disk, too...
