My printer was working fine. All the sudden it stopped. After trying to reset everything it worked again then stopped again. I went to utility disk repair and rec'd a message as stated in my subject. I did the verify disk permission and repair...the printer worked again and has now stopped again...I even re downloaded the printer software again. Don't know what has happened.

Thank you. I tried that once and it worked for a day and then went back to the same problem. The thing is the printer worked fine for a month and then all the sudden just stopped. Yesterday I was getting ready to go through the whole resetting and re-downloading as well as disk repair permission/verify and the printer was in queue for a print for about 30 minutes saying that the printer was not connected then all of the sudden it started receiving data and printed...so I'm stumped!

(iv) verify result (it is failing) it pop ups below error

I have a default set excel is still throwing error. Interestingly winword , powerpoint and publisher are working fine. I am able to print from all office applications except Excel.
Probably excel behaves differently from other office applications.
Probably it is a bug in excel
Workaround : Log on to a system once using newly created account then runas excel using this account then print works fine.
It means something in user profile should be configure to run excel print operation. Could you please somebody help what I need to configure in user profile that makes print operation success?

Mac says there is no default application to install shockwave 11

i have been trying to install the new version of the shockwave 11 player for my imac. i have installed it onto my desktop, but now that i double click on it it opens a window telling me that theres no default application specified to open the document. its a pkg file. how am i supposed to install this onto my imac?

Is this an Intel or PPC iMac? If an Intel Mac go here for the Intel version.

My Mac says I don't have permission to install the new Firefox software though I am the administrator.

I've been unable to download Firefox updates or install Firefox versions higher than 3.6.8 over the top of the 3.6.8 version. I get an error message, saying I don't have permission to do so though I am the administrator of this computer. At one time, I mistakenly had two admistrator accounts and I think this is the core of the problem. In any case, I am unable to update or download newer Firefox versions (very frustrating). First time on board so I may have some things missing. I have a iMac 27' I5, airport extreme router and comcast network. Using a hp Office jet Pro 8500a plus printer. I can print a page from the "printer contol panel" such as self test diagnostic page. When I try to print a page from my printer the printer goes thru the motions but on the printer q it says error with this message " /Library/Printers/hp/cups/inkjet3.driver/contents/macOS/Inkjet3failed." Called Hp followed theiradvice,reinstalled printer software for 10.7 but same result.
I'm not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am a happy,new Apple convert after many years on PC.

OK to delete boms for uninstalled printer drivers in /Library/Receipts?

I've trashed a bunch of unnecessary printer drivers from /Library/Printers. Can I trash their related Receipts in /Library/Receipts/boms? Together they are using quite a few MBs. They all start with com.apple.
Another quick question: A 3rd party app called DockDoctor installed a number of Receipts in the same location at boms. I've uninstalled the app, but would like to know if it's OK to trash their Receipts located there. If I do, could that cause some sort of conflict (permissions?) with the a.receiptdb (inside the db folder) which I noticed was changed at the time I installed the app? Thanks

You can delete items from the receipts folder if you really really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it.
- It shouldn't cause problems if the item is definitely removed.
- It could cause problems if the item isn't removed.
In any case, for most people the risk outweighs the benefit. If you're really short on hard drive space, I'd recommend other strategies. It's also generally a good idea to stay out of the /Library folder.

[Xcode 4.0.1] Internal error installing Mac OS X 10.6 core library

Hi folks, this is on a clean 1-month old mac running 10.6.7, with a fresh install of Xcode 4 from the app store. The "documentation" tab in the options allow you to install the mac os 10.6 core library documentation. It downloads the package but fails to install it. Here's the error:
"Internal error installing Mac OS X 10.6 Core Library". Install process rejected install attempt.
What can be done to fix this? Thanks.

This error message has been occurring since Mac OS X 10.5.4 I believe, it's not harmful in any way to the operation of your Mac, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure Apple will have this fixed in a future update.

Open Finder and click on Go > Go to Folder. Then type
/Library/Printers/Canon
and press Enter. This will show the BJPrinter and iJScanner folders. You could try moving or trashing this folder and then installing the driver that you downloaded from Canon again.

Brother Printer won't print unless you restart Mac in Mavericks

I recently updated to Mavericks and got the new printer updates for my Epson 4880 and Brother MFC 7420. In Mavericks, it won't print unless you restart. This is very frustrating. System Preferences says that the printer isn't connected, when it is. If you restart, it'll print the stalled print job as its starting up. From that point on, it works. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as getting this to function normally? I've updated to the most recent drivers and reinstalled- Problem Persists.

I'm also having communication issues between a MBP with Mavericks (though the problem has existed with older OS's) and the MFC-7420, also via USB. Restarting the computer does always seem to clear up any problems (whatever they are), until after a few print jobs or a scan job, things mysteriously seem to again go haywire. Sometimes restarting the printer is enough. Often not, though. Also, while there is updated firmware available for the printer, I am unable to install it using a Mac (Windows only).
Suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

Macs on the network say they "print" but nothing is actually printed

I have a Canon MF4350 connected via USB. It works as a local printer. Other Macs on the network can see it as a shared printer, and when you print it looks like printing work. But nothing is printed.
Canon cannot help, Apple cannot help.
Downloading the latest drivers from Canon just make the printer not work at all.
Tried everything I can think of and done a few things people recommend here - nothing works.

A previous postee who had the same issue and need to connect to the shared printer found that if the Mac that was connecting to the share did not have the UFRII driver installed locally, he was able to connect and print. The driver will be located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2. Delete this UFR2 folder and contents and empty the Trash. Then also trash the UFRII Backgrounder plist file, located in HD > Library > Launch Agents and is called jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist, and then restart the Mac. Now if you try connecting to the share, are you able to print?

Brother printer misses A4 paper vertical or horizontal, using Mac OS 10.6.8 & 10.8.8

When printing from PS CS5.1 (ver. 12.1), I can see the print dialog for Brother printers on my Mac (OS 10.6.8 or 10.8.8). Papers were printed with misses that image in horizontal A4, although I had set image in vertical A4. I can see a fit of image to horizontal A4 on print dialog.
Another files made or opened by Word, Preview, Mail, etc. can be printed without any troubles. Although I had inquired regarding the matter to Brother and Apple, they recommend inquiry to Adobe.

I have a Brother MFC6490CW On my Mac the Brother CUPS driver is installed.
I notice the vertical offset on my JIS B4 paper. To fix this I click on Page Setup. then I go to Page Size in Print Preferences. In the list I select "Manage Custom Sizes" and there I click + to add my custom size and name it "B4 Center" where my margins are .25 inches all around.
Then in Page Size I select B4 Center from the list and it will print centered on my Brother.
1. First click the button marked in red.
2. On "Paper Size" choose Manage Custom Sizes which should be at the bottom of the paper sizes list.
3. Click on "+" to add a custom size. Double-click on Untitled to rename it to A4 Center. Set Page size and margins. Press OK
4. From your Page Size menu, A4 Center should be at the bottom as a custom size, select it and use it in Photoshop.

If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.
