MAC | stroke style stipple crashes on test movie/ publish in cs3 cs4

stroke style stippled crashes when testing movie or trying to publish.
I have done some tests where I've drawn a random animation of just strokes say 10 frames with a solid style. Then I've used the same animation but changed the style to Stippled (also with edits to that stroke style ie very dense) and it CRASHES when i try to play the movie.
This is VERY frustrating for such a seemingly simple change on such a basic part of flash!!!!!!
This problem is on cs4 and I have also check Flash cs3 at my uni and it does exactly the same when i tried the test again (I made a new clean animation just to make sure it wasnt the files falt)so its not a problem with my computor but the software!
found out this search result with the same problem http://www.actionscript.org/forums/archive/index.php3/t-41241.html so im not the only one...
is it just on the mac versions?
This is very anoying as i have a project in on friday and thought this style went with what i was working with

Like I said, it is hard to be certain.
As far as I am aware, issues with Snow Leopard are specific to font anomalies in 10.6.7, and the fact that you cannot use the OS's printing system to produce PDFs via File > Print from Adobe applications. Do you have a link or citation for the issues you read online?
So, reasons to suspect Adobe: running the Adobe installer triggered the problem; Adobe programs crash and they crash in Adobe code;
Reasons to suspect Apple: it's not a single program crashing; the crashes don't seem to make sense; crashes happen for both CS4 and CS5; crashes affected non-Adobe programs (that is what you meant by "all my programs," right?).
So, my intuition is you should try an OS reinstall.
Though even if the root problem is the OS, Adobe probably has some blame here -- Adobe's programs should not crash. So you can certainly take it up with Adobe and hold firm to the line "your program should not crash; why is it crashing" and ultimately they should be able to tell you why (based on the crash report, and perhaps other things). But the answer may turn out to be, "because this Apple subsystem is broken. Fix it and our programs will stop crashing."
Have you looked at the logs in Console.app? They might shed some additional light.
Also, since you have recently reinstalled the OS, you are probably in a good position to reinstall the OS. Most people are reluctant to do so because they have a lot of data and applications, and it's a huge pain to preserve them. It sounds like you're not in that position, so doing that reinstall is relatively easy. I would therefore do it just for the peace of mind.

  • Crashing on 'test movie'

    I have Flash 8 on a Mac Powerbook, running 10.4.7 with 2gb
    RAM.
When using Flash everything is fine but as soon as I either
select 'test movie' or hit apple+return the application crashes.
This happens around every third of 4th time or trying.
As you can imagine this is very annoying and I would
    appreciate any advise.

    Hi,
Try to re-install Flash. if the problem still exist, contact
    the customer support.

  • Mono sound when test movie/publishing

    Hi,
I have a sound file which streams on my root time line.
This sound plays fine in the library but when I test movie/or
publish the sound plays in one speaker only.
I have tried publishing in different settings it doesn't seem
    to make any difference.
Never had this problem before only in Flash 8 Professional.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening.
    Thanks

  • Flash CS4 on MacOS 10.6.7 crashing when 'test movie' used

    Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.6.7.  I am using Flash CS4 10.0.2.
I recently upgraded computers from another MacBook Pro, and installed the same version of CS4 on this new one.
However, given this new computer has lots more RAM and more grunt and is by far less 'clogged up' than my old one (which was about three years old) it crashes all the time when I press CMD-ENTER to test my movies in Flash.
These are FLA's I've worked on for months on my other computer.  When I open the SWFs in Flash Player (i.e. outside the authoring environment) I do not get any crashes.
I have noticed the CPU rockets upwards to 100% just before the crash (and hovers around 80% even when nothing is moving on the screen etc).  It doesn't do this in the Flash Player.
I have scoured the web and can't seem to find what the problem might be.  They're known good FLAs (i.e. they worked on my other computer in the same version of Flash) and this computer should definitely be able to cope with them, given the old one did.  What might be the cause?
Here's an example of the error report that Mac OS throws up after the crash:

If anyone at all can suggest an answer to this problem that fixes it or contributes directly to a fix, I'll send you a thank-you gift of some description regardless of wherever in the world you might be.  I'm losing hours and hours of productivity on this.
    Many thanks!

As you've discovered some applications don't launch correctly using Migration Assistant. In particular Adobe applications like Acrobat or the Creative Suite should generally be newly installed from their install disks.
It's probably because Adobe applications spread their resources between many different files in many different places. They also are serialized (so they won't be stolen) requiring secret serialization files to be installed. Some of that probably isn't being copied in a way that will make it work after migration assistant.

  • Flash CS4 Crashing when testing movie

I am running into Flash CS 4 Professional crashing when I
test (ctrl + enter) or publish my movie. The final swf file turns
out corrupted as well. How do I fix this problem?? I am using Flash
    Player 10.

Thanks for your reply. I have the 10.0.2 Flash update on my pc, I'm not sure about the machines at school but I'm guessing they do as well. I also have 6gb of ram, and am running 64bit windows7. The pc's at school are new Dell's running widows7 and I would think they have at least 4gb of ram. I've attached a file that crashed when I scrubbed the playhead on the pc's at school. I don't have that problem at home. Thanks again for your help.

I would check a couple things - whether the Flash CS4 installations (the ones that crash) have been updated to 10.0.2, and secondly what the machine specs are (how much RAM). There were a number of issues (including crashing while scrubbing) that were worked on at great length for the updater.  If the updater has been installed and the machines have more than 2 gigs of ram, it would be great if you could link to a file that crashes while scrubbing so I can take a look.
    Thanks.

  • URGENT issue with testing movie / publishing

hello, i am creating a presentation for my coworker in flash.  let me start by saying i am in no way familiar with this program.  i am planning on learning more, but for now my task is specific to this assisgnment.
basically i have one large timeline the is the background.  this image moves around and then i have a number of jpegs that i've inserted that appear and dissapear at certain frames.  i have a next and previous button inserted in and code that tells those buttons what frames to go to.  my coworker then makes his presentation and can move linearly through his presentation.
i have now completely inserted all of the content in.  it's about 1000 frames, 100mb and around 40 or so imported images.  for some reason i can't seem to test the movie or publish it.  when i try to do those things, the box comes up saying exporting swf and then the bar doesn't move all the way across.  it closes and nothing is exported.
any suggestions would be immensely appreciated.  this is a deadline sensitive project and frankly i have nowhere else to turn.
are there any file restricitons or limitations i'm not aware of?
thank you in advance for your help and for taking the time to read this.

Lots of variables so it's very hard to say what the problem is.
My suggestion is to cut the timeline into pieces (just 200 frmaes or so) and test various sections Use only as much actionscript as needed to navigate to the first 200 frames or so... see if one particular section is a problem... if even small sections don't work, then size had nothing to do with it.
Then put 400 frames together and test again... then 600, etc.
    Best wishes,

  • HELP! Test Movie works in CS3 but when I export/publish i get nothing!

Here's the scenario: I have a swf which has 3 other swfs
embedded in it. Furthermore, these SWFs are populated by XML data.
When testing the movie in CS3, or doing Publish Preview, it pulls
the XML off the net, and loads the other SWFs just fine (they are
local). However, when I export/publish and try to run it locally, I
get nothing. When I try and set all the references to either all
local or all web I get nowhere either. When trying to load the SWFs
off the web, I get a warning about accessing internet resources on
a movie that is running locally.
Any ideas why Test/Publish Preview wouldn't care about
local/internet and everywhere else does? Help!

Delete something from your ipad so that you will have enough space.

You don't redownload them or get a refund.
You buy one download only.  It is your responsibility to backup your purchase.

  • Flash CS3 ActionScript and "Test Movie" on Mac

I recently switched over to a PowerMac and Flash CS3 from
    Flash 8 on a PC.
I've been on a PC forever but wanted to migrate over to the
Mac as XP and Vista and the headaches we all know about.
So, within Flash you can "Test Movie" and a little test
window pops up displaying your swf.
It has always been the case on the PC, and my friends with
Flash 8 on the Mac tell me it's the same for them, that you can be
writing in the Actions panel and then hit "Control/Apple - Enter"
and the ActionScript actions you just typed will be reflected in
the "Test Movie" pop up. In other words it the "Test Movie" window
acts as a constantly updated reflection of the latest edit to your
Flash piece, regardless of whether you've "Saved" the .fla document
    itself.
This is part of the normal work flow to me. Write some
actions, edit them, when they are right, I save. But in the
meantime, as I'm writing I can keep hitting "Control/Apple - Enter"
to watch the changes of my edits and I'll see them.
Well, on my new Mac with Flash CS3, the "Test Movie" window
never updates to the latest edit. Whether with hot-keys or with the
cursor/menu selection, the window will not reflect the latest edit,
UNLESS, I close it first. If I close it, and then hit the
hot-keys/menu for "Test Movie" then it will load my latest edit
(regardless of whether the .fla is saved). So it seems that closing
the pop up "Test Movie" window prior to is the only way to ensure
getting the current edit/actions to preview.
If you write a lot of actions script, then I'm sure you can
agree that adding that "close the window" step into your work flow
is really really a headache. And, if I can't find a way around
that, sadly, I'll have to migrate back to the PC, ugh, and Flash
CS3 on it, which still acts as it always has, with "control-enter"
    faithfully launching the current edit.
Any ideas? Have you experienced this.

You have to switch the focus back to the application and then
to the test window. Evidently between Flash MX04 (the one I have to
test) and CS3, they made it so that just clicking in the AS editor
window doesn't return the focus to the application. In that case
the Testing Environment intercepts the apple-enter and just
    re-tests the already compiled version.
If you click the application window, then click the
actionscript window, it will recompile the swf. However I
personally don't find apple-w to close the window so
    onerous.

  • Unexpected quit on "test movie"

I have a Mac G4 with 10.3 and Flash 8 Pro. About 1 out of
every 4 times I "test movie", Flsh Quits. It seems to have gotten
    worse over time.

I'm having the same problem. When I go to "Test Movie" or
"Publish", Flash crashes. Being new to the program and trying to
learn it this is really a drag. I'm adding my voice to yours and
    hoping for a response.

  • How do I correct the join in a dotted table stroke style?

I kept super organized when setting up my table styles this time. I set as many things as possible in the table setup, followed by cell styles for certain columns and certain rows (like subdividers). The problem with cell styles is that you can't set stroke styles BETWEEN cells, only around them. So if there's a setting to do this on the macro level, I'd be really happy. I always get issues with misapplied formatting when I apply too many styles or overrides, so that's what I'm trying to avoid.
Here's the problem: table styles are still treating my strokes on the individual cell level. I've been using dotted strokes in the columns, but there are no joins between rows. They're aligning to the top and bottom of each cell. See the gray lines in this example (blue dots are bullets, not strokes):
But when I override the column and re-do the stroke in the Stroke palette, they look as intended. Compare the highlighted cells (black) to the existing table style (white & light gray rows):
Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing? Any suggestions besides manual override?
Note: I'm in CS6 on Mac 10.6, in case it matters.

I actually need the cell styles. That's what sets my font, spacing, and GREP styles.
I did find the solution today. In the table style or table setup, I needed to set the "Stroke Drawing Order" to "Column Strokes in Front". Even though it was previously set to "Best Joins" and I had no strokes for rows or for the table borders, it just wasn't giving priority to my dotted columns.
    Thanks for your response though!

  • Mac mini (Late 2012) crashing repeatedly (OSX 10.10.1)

My new mac mini has been crashing several times daily, most notably when I leave the computer idle for 5 or 10 minutes.  However, sometimes it will go a whole day without a crash.  I've run the extended tests 3 times and no hardware problems have been indicated.  I've also "fixed disk permissions".  I've got two monitors connected to it: one via dvi, the other via hdmi.  Sometimes before it crashes it will first freeze and I'll get screen artifacts for about 5-10 seconds before it eventually crashes.  Often when it crashes, the next several attempts to start will fail.  Sometimes it starts beeping and I have to hold down the power button for a while before it will turn off.  I'm not seeing anything in common across the panic logs except for the last loaded kext.  Here is the latest one.  Happy to post more if it can be helpful:

Thanks for responding, Linc.  I've actually had the computer for about a year now, although I do still consider it new.  I may eventually take it to an Apple store if this continues.  I should have also mentioned that I swapped out the original memory upon purchase (upgraded to 16gb).  It may be a memory issue and I will try removing one chip then the other and see what happens.  Problem is that it sometimes goes a couple days without crashing, which makes debugging difficult.
    Here's the latest panic:

  • Why does my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 crash on startup?

    Hi, folks--
My 2006 Mac Pro is regularly crashing on startup with a kernel panic. It will chime on startup and usually show me the Apple startup screen with the spinning wheel-- but after that, I get the multi-language "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" message. Sometimes it doesn't even get there-- the spinning wheel just freezes, and stays frozen. Every once in a while, the Mac will start up, but the mouse will be so unresponsive that it takes me several minutes to mouse over to Restart so I can try again. (I've checked the mouse on another computer and it works fine.)
    Additional info:
    • I have one SSD startup disk with Lion, and two HDD startup disks with Snow Leopard. Starting up with any of these three disks results in the problems described above. This suggests to me that it's a hardware problem, rather than a problem with a specific startup disk.
    • I tried starting up from my Snow Leopard Install disk. It was able to start up successfully. All the data on my hard drives seemed to be intact, including Lion Install, so I tried re-installing Lion on my SSD. It showed the blue progress bar for a minute. Then it said it would restart my computer in 30 seconds-- at which point, I once again got the multi-language "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button ETC" crash. If even the install disk is crashing, this again suggests a hardware problem.
    • I set the Mac Pro to target mode, and used it as a startup disk for my wife's Macbook. It functioned just fine and there were no crashes. Again, confirmation that it is a hardware problem with my Mac Pro.
    • I have zapped the PRAM. I have also run Disk Utility, repaired permissions, and verified the disk. This did not fix the issue. (Not surprising if it is a hardware problem.)
    • HOWEVER:  I put in the install disk that came with the computer originally and was able to complete the Hardware Test. I chose the most thorough option. It did not find any problems.
    • This started happening three days ago. I'm not aware of any recent changes to the system that could have caused this. The most recent change I made was installing a Radeon HD 5770  graphics card and an SSD drive, more than a month ago. There was no sign of trouble after I installed either of them (except for some problems putting the Mac Pro to sleep, which is apparently a known issue with the Radeon 5770 in this model Mac Pro).
    • Weirdly, after I fiddle with the Mac Pro for an hour or so (run diagnostics, reboot it repeatedly, etc) it seems to start working. If there is indeed a hardware problem, then perhaps something works better when it's warmed up.
Is there anything you'd suggest I try? Or am I stuck lugging it to the Genius Bar? I don't have a car, so this is a bit of a pain…
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Thanks, The Hatter. I'm working through all the links you've provided and see if I can narrow down the problem.
And, Grant, thanks as well-- I really appreciate the specific information. You've enabled me to track down the panic log -- but they are indeed baffling. I'm pasting one below, in case somebody wiser than I can interpret it for me.

  • Flash CS4 - Background Colour Change Not Changing in Test Movie

    Hello,
Whenever I change the document's background colour in Flash CS4 and then "test movie", the background colour remains white. However if I publish it the colour will be the selected colour.
It's not a huge deal since it publishes right, but I'd really like to be able to test my movie with the correct background colour.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I am updated to the latest version of CS4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

    Hey there,
Could you describe the setup or link a file with the problem?  I can't reproduce the problem with basic fades (obviously they should continue to work when you switch the player).  Is it just in the document you're working on, or all documents you create?
    Thanks,
    Jen.
