Mac to PC compatiblity

I am running the the latest and same CC versions of Photoshop on my Macbook Pro and Windows 7 desktop but I am unable to open any PSD files on my PC that were created on my Macbook. When I try, I get the following message: "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." I didn't have this issue before the latest update so I'm assuming that the new update no longer supports cross platform projects. Is there a utility available to import Mac PS project into Windows? Or should I go back to the previous version of PS on both my machines?  (and should I avoid any future upgrades altogether and stay with what works?)

Thanks Chris,
I haven't changed my method from before when I used the previous version of PS so the new upgrade definitively doesn't not support cross platform. It did occur to me that I probably need to upgrade to Yosemite on my Mac in order to achieve cross platform compatibility. However, I fear a new OS because the switch to Mavericks was painful. I do a lot of my work on a Laptop so maybe the answer is to trade my Macbook Pro for a Windows laptop?
Thanks for your help.

There is a version of Firefox 4 available for PPC Macs:
TenFourFox 4.0.1 Firefox 4 For PowerPC Browser Released
Version 4.0.1 of TenFour Fox, FloodGap's port of Firefox 4 for Power PC
Macs that supports both Mac oS X 10.4 and 10.5. has been released.
Mozilla.org dropped support for OS 10.5 after Firefox 3.6 and for Power
PC with the fourth beta of Firefox 4.
TenFourFox uses almost all the same code as Firefox 4 and has nearly all
the same features, including faster JavaScript, WebM video, and HTML 5
and CSS 3 support, as well as new and emerging Web features, but with
the code needed to keep your Power Mac functional and fast. Out of beta
and it's ready for action, versiob 4.0.1 is a performance, security and
stability update incorporating Mozilla's Firefox 4.0.1 plus AltiVec acceler
-ation for WebM and browser graphics, and G5 JavaScript acceleration.
    For more information, visit:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    Source: from http://www.applelinks.com - posted April 25, 2011)
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:

  • Palm Desk Top 4.2.1 on Mac to be Compatible with Windows XP

At work I am using a Mac with Palm Desk Top 4.2.1 for creating a data base for customers. At home I have a PC with Windows XP. I want to be able to work from home to enter information but I am not sure what download version I should use that will be compatible with my computer. I am just new to Mac computers at work, so everything is new to me.  Would appreciate any suggestions.

    To WyreNut,
Thank you for your information on loading software for my Palm Desktop 4.2.1 to my PC using Windows XP. I was able to get it loaded but I am not able to create an address book to work with our names data base. I can get Contacts but that is it. I read the manual you had sent the link to as well, but it did not give me the information I needed. I did print up instructions from our Mac but what I downloaded is not the same. If you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them.
    Thank you,
Are you using a Palm device, or just the software?
If using the device, when you do a Hotsync to the PC, all data should transfer to Palm Desktop.
"Contacts" is the newer name for the "Address Book", so I'm not quite sure what you mean by not being able to create one...?

  • How to create documents on Mac that are compatible with Windows?

I have just started working in InDesign for a client who uses InDesign and wanted me to learn the program so that they could make changes on their own in the future to documents I create for them.  I am working on a Mac OS 10.6.2 They have PCs and are working in a Windows environment.  I sent the first packaged dvd for their printer and sent it to them last week.  Everything looked beautiful on this end, no errors, packaged with links and fonts.  When they received the disc the font files on the disc that looks perfect on my computer-- on their computer all read as 0kb and they can't make it work.  I have used truetype, type 1 and open type fonts.  I just read something in an earlier discussion about true type and T1 as being problematic with PCs?  What can I do to be compatible?

My apologies. I find working in unfamiliar computer systems challenging and after over an hour on the phone trying to help an inexperienced PC user find fonts and find her way around InDesign with which she was even less familiar on a PC, a platform with which I have had no experience in the last 13 years, I was frustrated. My comment was inapropriate to this forum.  I do realize that PCs are valuable tools.  The computer system one is familiar with is always the best platform there is when in the middle of a complicated job.

  • HT5444 App store says Mac isn't compatible but I believe its compatible

I have a Imac with 2.5 Gb memory, Mac OS X 10.6.8, and It's 2007 and newer. What I check the about this mac option, it doesn't tell whether it's a Snow Leopard or Lion installed?  I feel it's upgradable. Can you tell me what to do?

If you are running 10.6.8, it is Snow Leopard. So what isn't it supposed to be compatible with? Here are the requirements for Lion:

  • Can I make any hardware upgrade to make my Mac Pro1,1 compatible with OS X Mavericks?

    Hi!
    I have got a Mac Pro1,1 Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2,66 GHz, 11 Gb RAM running OS X 10.7.5.
I would like to know if there is any chance to make any hardware upgrade to make my Mac Pro compatible with Mavericks, maybe a Processor upgrade.
I miss all the synchronization features, iMessage and all the goodies Mavericks brought
    Thank you very much!

I'm sorry you can't. Because it has a 32bit EFI. To run Mountain Lion or Mavericks the Mac needs a 64bit EFI.

  • Is there an automated way to check if my MAC Pro is compatible with Mountain Lion?

I am trying to upgrade my OS to Mauntain Lion after reading all of the requirements, but when i click on purchase, it is telling me that my system is not compatible. Is there a way to automatically confirm compatibility?

    barriorecords wrote:
... Is there a way to automatically confirm compatibility?
It seems you already did that but to verify the App Store's diagnosis is actually correct, type in your Mac Pro's serial number here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
To find its serial number: Mac Pro: How to find the serial number
You can copy the serial number from About This Mac > More Info... and paste it in the above page's serial number field. Mountain Lion requires an early 2008 or newer Mac Pro. That would be a MacPro3,1 or later.

  • Are 2013 Mac Pro DIMMS compatible with 12-Core Silver Tower?

I have a Mid 2011 12-Core Silver Tower, and want to upgrade the memory, however, I also expect to upgrade the entire computer in the next year or two, so I'm wondering if I can buy DIMMS compatible with the 2013 model and use them in the Silver Tower?
Currently, the Silver Tower has 8 slots, 4 of which are occupied with 2GB DDR3 ECC 1066MHz modules. Correlary question is: can I keep these DIMMS in the 4 matching slots, and put the faster 2013 DIMMS in the other four matching slots, or do I have to replace EVERYTHING?
    Thanks in advance!

The Mac Pro silver tower has unique cooling requirements not present in other computers, including the Mac Pro  6,1 black cylinder. Memories for the silver towers should have Apple-approved extra-large heatsinks.
I think you should just buy the DIMMs specifically for the model you have, and leave it at that. The 8GB modules will still mix freely with smaller sizes, and are about the same price as two 4GB modules, so they are the best choice.
