Mac-with Leopard-Adobe Reader 8.1 will not open previously scanned files

Have a Intel Mac and use Leopard.
When using Reader 7.1 previously scanned files (eg. recipes) always opened. Upgraded to Adobe Reader 8.1
Now, on a number of them, the icon is black, and when I attempt to open them I get the
following message..for say a scanned recipe..
"Adobe Reader could not open "Won Ton Soup" because it is either not a supported file or
because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and
wasn't correctly decoded)."
Tried latest version of Adobe Reader..no luck.
Suggestions ? Thanks.

Were they actually PDF's?
If not, it could be that you had Acrobat instead of Reader before.

    What is your operating system?
You don't need Acrobat to view PDF files; can you post a screenshot of that message?
Also, is this a local or online PDF?  If online, in what browser?

  • Adobe Reader 9.3 will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8

We are currently running Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Version 8.2.0 with Acrobat Distiller 8 and Adobe Live Cycle Disigner 8.0. I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9.3, but it still will not open 9.3 documents it defaults to the Reader 8 and I get an error message.
How do I change the default Reader to 9.3 or do I have to buy the upgrade for Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 in order to be able to open and use on-line forms that require 9.3?
    Help!

Well that is my question, we have a fully authorized and purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro
    8.
When I do an update for Adobe Acrobat 8, it does not install the updated Reader 9.3.
In order to update the Reader to 9.3, I have to install it seperately. It does that, but when I open 9.3 it defaults to the 8 Reader.
So I guess the answer to my question is that I have to update to the 9.3 full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro, what a rip by Adobe just so we can use the newest "free" Reader.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 will not open in OSX 10.5.7

Since loading the latest OSX 10.5.7 update I have not been able to open Adobe Reader. I have removed the version that I had (9.1) and downloaded a fresh copy but it makes no difference - Reader will not open at all. I have tried the reset - again it does not open. Any ideas?

Try removing your cache. You can use Onyx or Applejack to do this.

  • Adobe 9 worked fine, then just stopped working.  Loaded adobe 11 and it will not open any .pdf files

Why can't I get Adobe Reader 11 to work at all??  Won't open, repaired via Windows XP as suggested, does not help.  Will not open files in Emails, or stored on the disk. HELP!!!!!

No, neither vers. 9 nor 11 will do anything by itself, no errors, no nothing, hourglass shows up for about 10-15 seconds, no message, no nothing.  Very frustrating, to say the least.  When you have 11 loaded it says Acrobat failed to load its core .DLL but this is several minutes later.  Can’t find anything relating to that problem.  Any help would be appreciated as I have some very important files that cannot be opened.

  • Adobe Reader 1.5LE will not open after Firmware Update

Is anyone aware of a solution to this problem? I updated my N95 to the most recent version and found the Nokia Reader software to be unusable (the application itself will not even open). Is there a link from which the software may be downloaded and re-installed? A search of Google, Nokia and Adobe has proven fruitless. Any help would be much appreciated.

i guess problem caused of a 3rd party application you installed to your phone. If it goes fine with hard reset you shall be carefull when you install new applications to your phone.

  • Adobe Reader nor Eula will not open

I have serached through the threads, but there was no way that I could make Adobe Reader XI nor any other version work again on my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1) I have tried changing the registry entry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged), reinstalling, trying to run directly the EULA.exe, but there is no way to make Adobe Reader working again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • I have the Mac OS 10.9.4  I am unable to read PDF's, so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.  Is it comparable with my Mac OS?

I have the Mac OS 10.9.4  I am unable to read PDF's, so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.  Is it comparable with my Mac OS?

    More information would be good.
What do you mean by "unable to read PDF's". How are you trying to read them and what exactly happens when you try?
so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.
    Again, what exactly is happening?
And yes, the latest version should be compatible with your OS.

  • My macbook is loaded with microsoft work and every time I try and open the program I get an error reading and it will not open.  Powerpoint and the other applications still respond!

my macbook is loaded with microsoft word for macs and every time I try and open the program I get an error reading and it will not open. This is what it says:
The application Microsof Word quit eunexpectedly.  Powerpoint and the other applications still respond!

    The joys of Microsoft!
Maybe the preferences file is corrupted.  You should be able to find the Word preferences file in the folder:
    your user name/Library/Preferences
    Its name is com.microsoft.Word.plist
I suggest you drag this another folder and try Word again.
If that doesn't work then you might find clearing the cache files will fix the problem.  You can do this manually but I never bother. Instead I use a program like Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner (shareware) or Onyx (free). These programs do lots of other maintenance jobs so it's worth having at least one of them.

How can I download Adobe Reader if it will not accept my password?

I have spent more than 3 hours (over 2 on your ask the expert where I waited forever and got about 5 minutes of Santos' time!)  He transferred me to this area where there is no one to help me.  I can't adjust my thermostat until I update my adobe reader and can't do that because your website will not take my password.  However, adobe.com will take it.  So what the hell do I do?????
