Mac won't print to my hp c4750 printer

I have my MacBook Pro cabled to my HP printer C4750.  I gave up trying to configure it wireless.  That isn't my issue today.  My issue is that I have been able to print this way up until today.  I currently have 16 items pending print.  I have been able to print a few of my needed docs this morning, but the delay is long between each print.  At this point I don't think it's printing any more at all.  It has been at least 20 minutes since anything printed out.
I am wondering if I need to completely reinstall the printer software again??? Not even sure I did that to begin with.  I am very new to a Mac so it's pretty confusing to me.  I really don't want to do anything that is going to have me lose everything that I have in my cache ready to print.  I spent a lot of time this morning finding these documents.
Thanks for any help

Hello @pgm80!
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I should be able to provide some assistance that may get things back up and running.  Not too sure if I can help save the print jobs stuck in the cache but I definitely will try!
The first thing I suggest is to power cycle the printer.  Once the printer is back on I recommend you run a Repair Disk Permissions on the Mac.  Repair Disk Permissions should be run once a month or so on the Mac.  It locates errors and issues in the Mac and repairs them.  It improves computer performance and may get those print jobs started!
For instructions on how to perform a Repair Disk Permissions click: Performing a Repair Disk Permissions
Once the repair is finished try resuming the print jobs again to see if it prints.
Please post back and let me know how it goes!

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?

Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix

If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • Mac won't print; says print file not accepted

My macbook pro won't print to a new wireless printer that I have; no matter what kind of file I'm printing (doc, pdf, jpg, etc), it says that the print file is not accepted.  I've even used a usb cable to connect it directly to the printer and it still won't print; My computer recognizes the wireless printer, but does not print to the printer; It does however print to another printer that I have wirelessly, just not the new one.  Any ideas on what I can do to make this work?  I've even called Epson (new printer) and they can't figure it out...

Does another computer print to the new printer? You can try resetting the printing system Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system but I would suspect that the new printer may be faulty.

  • Mac won't print

Hi, I have an pcs 1310.  It works fine via USB with our PC so I know the USB and printer work, but through my MAC, it won't.
When I print the test page through the Utilities it prints, but anything else won't.  When I hit print it shows that it sends 100%, but nothing comes out of the printer.

    Hi SugaKoated,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to connect the printer to your Mac.
Are you attempting to connect the Mac and the P.C to the printer with a usb connection at the same time through a usb hub or are you connecting to the Mac direct to the printer?
So I can better assist you, what is the operating system that you are running on the Mac?

  • My Mac won't print a pdf from the web

My iMac will not print any pdf from the web. The printer (an ho Photosmart plus) will only print a blank shet of paper.

Try saving the file then, then open Preview and open the file and try printing again. If if the quality is still bad then it's the file itself.

  • Printer connected, printer works, but won't print from Mac

I'm helping someone with a printer problem, and I have a mystery on my hands.
The printer is connected (directly), shows up in the printer list, can print a test page, but won't print any document from this computer (it's fine from my laptop).
    It's a Mid-2011 Mini, 2.3Ghz, running 10.7.5. The printer is an Epson WF-2540.
This is a USB printer, connected directly to their Mac.
In "Settings", when you select Print/FAX and print a "Test Page" - Success! This is a process that invokes the Epson Driver directly [and bypasses the MAC print queuing mechanism]
When "Printing" from within any application (firefox, TextEdit, winders...)   The job starts to queue, but errors before engaging the printer.
R & R the Epson Drivers,  Clear the Printer "stuff" on the Mac, Reinstall drivers from the Epson website, Mac wants to update the "newest" Epson Drivers (kinda' funny when I think about it...).
    Still errors.
I attached directly to a USB port on my MacBook Pro.  Download drivers, etc..  Works like a champ!
We have deleted the printer from System Prefs, rebooted, and added it back.
We have even gone into Terminal and...
    sudo bash
    cd /etc/cups/ppd
    ls
    found EPSON_WF_2540_Series.ppd
    cp * /var/tmp/
    ls /var/tmp/*.ppd
    rm /etc/cups/ppd/*
    Still doesn't work.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi, it's not clear... did you Rest the Printing system on the Mac?
    10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8 instructions...
In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.
if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031215144430486
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.
Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.5.x+++
        1.    To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.5.x, follow these steps:
        2.    Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
        3.    Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
        4.    Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."

As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

  • HP Envy 5530 won't print in color from Mac

My printer won't print anything in color from my Mac. I've tried printing from Word and from a PDF, and each time only black ink will show up. I've tried:Removing the black ink catridge and printing with just colorShaking the color ink cartridgeRemoving and putting back the color ink cartridgePrinting a test page (color doesn't work for this, either- nothing prints at all when I do this)Double and triple checking my print settings The only ink color that my computer says is "low" is yellow. I'm printing wirelessly, but because black ink prints fine, I'm willing to bet there's no connection problems. DO NOT try to sell me more ink; I am already upset with HP enough as it is. The last thing I want to do right now is buy more of its ineffective products. Please help me fix this problem.
    Thank yoooouuuuu

Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I see that you are having issues with printing in colour from your Mac to your Envy 5530. I can help with that. To start, this document outlines how to troubleshoot print quality issues with your printer. When you get to the Solutions that suggest replacing the cartridges you can instead click on this link to contact HP Support. On this page if you scroll down and fill out the form you will find their contact number. I will warn you that if the cartridge is showing as low their solution may be to replace the cartridge with a new cartridge. I hope this helps and I hope you have a great day!

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Premier won't print (Mac OSX 10.6)

The printer is detected by my computer and is able to interact with it, but it refuses to print.  I restored factory settings with no luck.  I downloaded the HP software/drivers for my laptop, ran setup, everything worked...still won't print.  Any ideas please!?!

    Hi Stonesp85,
Is there any error message pops out on printer front panel or on the PC?
Are you able to print out any self-test page like Product Status Report or Network configuration page ( in Setup -> Reports)?
this is just a quick test for your printer hardware.
to fully validate you printer hardware, I suggest you download "HP Hardware diagnostic Utility" in below link and run it:

  • I'm on a mac and my printer won't print

I'm on a mac and it sends the document to my printer (Hp Photosmart 4680 all in one) but the printer won't print. My printer has been working just fine and now it won't print. Am I doing something wrong. This happened once before and I got frustrated with and left it for about 2 days, I had tried everything I could think of, unplugging for an hour or more, uninstalling and reinstalling, checked ink levels they were fine. Then all of a sudden it started to work again. I just turned on my computer and printer and amazingly it just started to print. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? Or does anyone have any suggestions of what I may be doing wrong!
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Do you have HP software installed (in your Applications folder)?  If so and you got it from the printer CD, let's get rid of it:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Now, run a Software Update.
Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.
You do not need the software now since Snow Leopard has both print & scan drivers built-in. Scan from Preview or Image Capture apps. Scanning from the front panel of the printer does not yet work.

  • Brother Printer won't print unless you restart Mac in Mavericks

I recently updated to Mavericks and got the new printer updates for my Epson 4880 and Brother MFC 7420. In Mavericks, it won't print unless you restart. This is very frustrating. System Preferences says that the printer isn't connected, when it is. If you restart, it'll print the stalled print job as its starting up. From that point on, it works. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as getting this to function normally? I've updated to the most recent drivers and reinstalled- Problem Persists.
    Thanks in advance,
    Al Harding

I'm also having communication issues between a MBP with Mavericks (though the problem has existed with older OS's) and the MFC-7420, also via USB. Restarting the computer does always seem to clear up any problems (whatever they are), until after a few print jobs or a scan job, things mysteriously seem to again go haywire. Sometimes restarting the printer is enough. Often not, though. Also, while there is updated firmware available for the printer, I am unable to install it using a Mac (Windows only).
Suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Jim
