Mac won't run mavericks installer
I have a problem with my mac. I formated my macbook and after that I tried to reinstall mavericks. It seems like it downloads but after it directs me back to the main menu. When I go into disk utility I can see that it has downloaded a mavericks installer but somehow it doesn't run it after download.
Any sugestions to what the problem may be?
At what location is Disk Utilities showing Mavericks ?
Would you post a screen shot of Disk Utilities so people can see what you are seeing? Make sure you cover any personal information using Preview. Post the screen shot in a Reply using the camera icon. Copy and paste doesn't work.

How old is the MacBook Pro? AirPlay is only supported on 2011 and newer models, due to the requirements it has in hardware for graphics acceleration.

Creating NetRestore Image of OS X Yosemite (10.10) from Mac Mini Server Running Mavericks (10.9)
Hello all,
We are attempting to create a NetRestore image of a Macbook Pro running Yosemite (10.10) from a Mavericks (10.9) Mac Mini running OS X Server. Previously we connected a Macbook Pro in target mode to our Mac Mini (both running Mavericks) using System Image Utility to create a NetRestore SP0 from which we could deploy to all of the computers in our lab running Mavericks. We did this as a method to update the applications on each iMac locally from the hosted NetRestore image we created. We are now receiving several new iMacs and Mac Pros running Yosemite (10.10) native and we wish to use the same process to update these machines from our Mac Mini (Mavericks) running OS X Server.
We are now trying create a NetRestore image from a native Yosemite Macbook Pro using System Image Utility on our Mac Mini (running Mavericks) however when the Yosemite Macbook Pro is connected in target mode, System Image Utility does not recognize the volume although it is recognized by our Mac mini (e.g., the yellow-orange image icon is displayed on the Mac Mini's desktop). Some of our lab computers are still running Mavericks, and my understanding is that Mavericks NetRestore Images cannot be created from a Mac Mini with OS X Server running Yosemite.
Must we upgrade our Mac mini from Mavericks to Yosemite for System Image Utility to recognize our Yosemite Macbook Pro (connected in target mode) in order to create a Yosemite NetRestore Image?
Note: We know there are better alternatives (e.g., Munki) to deploy updates to our machines via server and are working to establish a more convenient process, but this is the method we have been comfortable using before running into the above issue.
Thanks all!You could use DeployStudio to 'serve' both Yosemite and Mavericks images from your Mac mini which can still run Mavericks. You would also use DeployStudio to make an image of the MacBook once it has been loaded and then this image can be restored to multiple machines.

I eventually spoke with CPU Senior Advisor, J.T. Thornton, and I asked him to explain which mandatory feature was added to the 2007 iMacs that wasn’t present in the 2006 models. He pulled up the technical specifications of the 2006 iMac next to the 2007 iMac, and even he was unable to identify what changed in 2007 that would cause the incompatibility. He went on to explain that it was probably an algorithm that caused my Mac to be incompatible.
I asked (somewhat facetiously) if the algorithm was if build year<2007 then FAIL, and then to my surprise, he agreed with me.
Why isn't there a smarter algorithm to determine compatibility? I can clearly see that my system exceeds the minimum system requirements, with the exception being, of course, the year it was built.

Then you do not need to upgrade.
But if you do remember that your needs may not have changed, but technology has. 32 bit machines are vintage now, they will not run moderns operating systems. So unless Mavericks has something that you must have don't upgrade. And if you do, a new Mac will be needed.
$1199 divided by 8 years is a cost of about $3 a week, a pretty good rate for a machine that works as well as it did 8 years ago. -
Updated my 2008 MacBook pro to Mavericks.Lost some programs that won't run on Mavericks. One being Tuneup for Mac. Used for housekeeping and cleaning up the machine. Can't figure out how run maintenance on drive w/o this. Seached for scheduled maintenance in help, nothing.

I've finally figured out how to download iTunes on this crazy stupid windows OS, but when I click on the setup in my downloads folder, it won't run. It looks like you’re running into an issue downloading the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Try adjusting the Pop-up Blocker settings in Internet Explorer as shown in the article below.

Mac slow down after Mavericks installation
I have realized that I am not the first with the same problem after the installation of Mavericks.
I run etrecheck as have been already advised many users.

As Kappy says, you are either concurrently running too may RAM hungry apps, or you have some apps that really want lots of RAM and you are running them a lot day after day. Either "Stop That!", or get more RAM.
You could also consider a Solid State Disk, but that is not as good as having real RAM and would be more expensive than RAM unless you Mac is max'ed out on RAM. Of course you could do both. More RAM and an SSD
If you want to see the paging for yourself, start an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session, and run the command:
sar -g 60 100
which will report the pageout stats every minute for 100 minutes (adjust the numbers to suit your tastes).
Now use your Mac as your normally would, including the times when it is running slow. After you have experienced the slowness, go back and look at the 'sar' output. If you have mostly zeros with maybe a trivial blip every once in awhile, that is noise and not a paging issue. If you have some high numbers, then you are paging heavily at that time. If you have sustained paging, even if small value, it is going to affect your performance. High numbers will affect your performance even more. -

Just received and installed LV / Lego Mindstorms on a Mac running OS X 10.7. The installation seemed to proceed normally with no error messages. However, the software seems partially dysfunctional.
I began the first tutorial where you create a Robot Project. Entered a name, and saw a "path preview", clicked "Create" button. No further progress past this point:
The "Robot Project Center" window did not appear as expected. It appears that no new files were created, and there is no folder called "Projects" in the NXT Robotics folder. The app then returns to the Getting Started window, and behaves as though I have done nothing. I can't get any further with the new tutorial project.
There is no uninstaller on the disc, and the instructions in "uninstall.txt" are complex, time-consuming, and perhaps dangerous. (I get nervous trying to make a lot of manual deletions in my root directory and system folders. I'm afraid of screwing something up accidentally.)

Sounds like the Robot Project Center is functional, but there must be an error creating the project on disk. Do you have write permissions to the NXT Robotics folder?
The default location is Documents\LabVIEW Data\NXT Robotics\Projects.
The Projects folder should be created the first time you create an NXT project.
As a workaround, I have attached a blank robot project you can use as a template. Just double click the lvrbt file and it should open in the Robot Project Center.

Instead of Yosemite, runs Mavericks installation!

I have following problem: Last several months I used OS X Yosemite... Now, I planned to reinstall the OS, I wanted to do clean installation of the system, so I erased my main HD, and clicked on "Reinstall OS X"... Expecting installation of Yosemite, it just proposes me to install Mavericks! So, the question is: how to install Yosemite from that moment, I do not need to install Mavericks and update to Yosemite?
I must also say that in Disk Utility I have another partition at the buttom called "disk1" and consisting of subpartition called "OS X Base System". I suppose that this Recovery partition does not allow me to go to Yosemite installation, as it contains Mavericks. So, here another question: how do I get this "base system" partition deleted, and install Yosemite by downloading it?

Migration assistant to transfer data from PC - Windows 7 to MAC Book Pro running Mavericks
Hello Gurus,
I am having toruble using the migration assistant to transfer my data from my PC windows 7 to MAC book pro Mavericks.....
The MAC window for migration assistant keeps searching the source computer..... and windows PC says waiting for the MAC to connect...I had the same problem, I solved it by turning off the firewall on both the PC and my MacBook Pro. It worked immediately after that. Hope that solves your problem too.

Installing the CS4 Soundbooth goes fine on Leopard/Intel, then on 1st run it says needs to download some codecs and that fails after about 25% or so. Then it starts normally and a few seconds later when the full SB interface is open, it just hard crashes closed. You can not click anything on the menu bar. I have tried two different source discs for the install and it has the same result. I have no such issue with photoshop cs4, acrobat etc. Anyone else ever see this on a mac install? Any ideas what else I could try? Thanks.

I think I fixed the problem.
I ran Soundbooth with all startup programs turned off and it worked.
I then checked the applications loading on startup and
saw that the application "Hear" was one of those automatically
loading.
I eliminated "Hear" from the startup list and Soundbooth then
worked properly.

problem for good.

Mac Won't Boot From Installation Disk
After doing a software update, my Mac Pro got stuck on the gray screen after restart (seems like a very common problem recently). I am able to boot into safe mode by holding shift (only works like 10% of the time) and verified permissions. It says I need to repair my disk, but i can only do this by booting from my install disk.
However, I can not boot from my install disk. It gets stuck at the gray screen every single time.

Am I screwed here? So irritated that this all happened because of Mac's own software update. I have wasted HOURS troubleshooting and it looks like my only option is to pay to have it serviced.

A clone is a copy made from a functioning Mac using clone software like CCC or SuperDuper!. You say you can boot into safe mode#. This is a bit unconventional, but you could try the following; you will need a functioning external hard drive, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with a GUID partition map. If these details are elusive or vague to you, research this yourself beforehand.
With a functioning external harddrive, see if you can download, and install the SuperDuper applicaton, in the Applications folder and use it to make a copy (ie a clone) of your HD onto the Ext. HD. When all finished restart and hold down the Option key to give you the chance to boot into the external hard drive clone*. If that is possible, then you can run its Disk Utility and perform a Repair Disk on the internal Macintosh HD, and hopefully correct whatever error exists.
#Being able to boot into safe mode suggest there may be some software being loaded in normal mode that is causing the problem, but is difficult to diagnose. What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
*if at this point it does not boot, there is not much more to try.
Another variation, more straight forward would be to use Disk Warrior, although expensive, it is a good disk utility that may resurrect your boot process, but it is expensive, and it all depends on whether your Mac can boot into it as well. If it can't see it you would be facing the same problem.

Over on another Adobe Forum I came across a thread which pointed out that the latest Mac incarnations will not boot up with the Tiger software. So, if you or your software don't like
Leopard,now installed as standard, you can't go back to 10.4xxxxThis is true of all macs, Malcolm. They can never successfully boot from any version of the OS earlier than the one they ship with. So if your mac came with 10.4.7, it is iffish whether you can boot from a retail disk even of Tiger (which would have 10.4.0, of course.)
That's always been the way. A mac that came with system 9 couldn't run system 7, either. -
