Macbook 100% FROZEN when Airport (WIFI) set ON after 3G USB pen connection

Please help guys!
On my macbook I noted that when I just switch the airport ON, in order to search for some WIFI networks, the macbook completely freezes if I have the 3G usb already connected to internet.
This happens also if the 3G pen is only searching the 3G network (after being plugged) and then I switch the airport ON, just for making WIFI networks search.
Why does this happen?
The only means to recover the macbook is to make a reset via the power p/b (indeed nothing works anymore after the freezing occurrence).
*May all people having a 3G subscription try this please?*
I do not understand why this occurs. I will try on Monday in the Apple store but I would like to have your help also.
For your information, I have a huawey e169 3G drive (from TIM in Italy).
Thank you very much for your help

The whole issue of sharing disks via AEBS seems very flaky - on my Macbook I often have to reboot to make them visible once they've vanished and they randomly disconnect - not worth the trouble IMHO.
hope they fix it soon

  • Can't access Time Machine settings when AirPort (WiFi) is on.

    Problem:
My iMac (2.66 MHz Inter Core Duo) with 10.5.8 needs an upgrade to Maverick...it is connected to my home network with AirPort
I have a NAS on my home network (Verbatim MediaShare 2TB) wired connected, which I have had working as a drive for TM-backups. It stopped working with TM about 1,5 year ago, did never figure out why, backups just failed.
Now I want to get it going again for a fresh backup prior to the OS upgrade.
The issue I am facing now is that I cant access the settings for the backup drive in TM settings as the AirPort is on.
I need AirPort on to be able to mount the drive of the NAS, but then I cant access TM-settings. If I switch of AirPort temporarly to access TM-settings the drive which I need to select is dismounted.
I am kind of stuck. Why is this happening?

the NAS Volume for backup "COMPUTERSBACKUP$" can be mounetd as it should when AirPort is on.
Hi, label explains the problem pretty much...
That is: The dialog in TM where the disk for TM to put backuped data is not accessable when the iMac has connection to my home network. The button is there, but when i press it notheing happends. If i deactivate the network interface, the dialog opens.
I hope this claryfy my problem.

  • AirPort WiFi on 2010 MBA won't stay connected to 5Ghz band since latest 10.6.7 update.

I updated my 2010 MBA 11" to the latest/greatest of everything in prep for Lion. So, I now have 10.6.7 of course. But ever since the updates, I noticed that my wifi on the MBA won't stay connected to the 5 Ghz band of my router. It'll connect fine to the 2.4 Ghz channel, so its not a big deal, but this is my first weird issue with the Mac (I converted in January), so of course it bugs me.
Anybody else having the same issue? Since Lion is around the corner, I can get by using the 2.4 band and hope its not an issue in Lion. But part of me wants to try to use my TIme Machine backup right before I updated to see if it is truly related to the updates.
    Thanks!

Forgot to mention, I have a Netgear WNDR3400 N600 Dual Band Wireless Router. But like I mentioned, it has worked perfectly for 5 months previously.

  • Macbook pro freezes when moved / wifi problem

    Hi guys,
This is driving me nuts. I've read some other post on the internet with the same problem but still no clue how to fix this.
Okay so this is what happens. Eather my wifi works but my macbook freezes when I move it. Or the wifi doesnt work (no hardware detected) and the laptop doesnt freeze.
Ive been to the genius bar here in Amsterdam, replaced the wifi but his didnt help, still freezing with wifi, or no wifi at all.
    Other actions taken:
    PRAM reset
    SMC reset
    replaced ram, to test
    Reinstalled the whole laptop.
Does anybody have a clue what to do?
    Thanks,
    Timon

I have tried all suggestions I found on Internet
Then take your MPB to your local AS or an AASP.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!
    Contact the router manufacturer.
If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • WRT54Gv.5 new firmware crashes when airport card is used, after changing beacon interval

That basically says it: resetting the beacon interval to 50 and the RTS and fragmentation interval to 2304 worked beautifully for a week - and then, bam, we were right back where we started - namely that every time our new macbook joins the network (otherwise occupied only by a hp dv1000, running xp), the network crashes and i have to unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in to get the network back up again.
    Hoping someone can help me!
    thanks
    rachel

    hi carrot,
i hope you see this! i reset the values on the router which you told me to, and everything was great for a week, but then suddenly the network started going down again, two or three times a day, usually within 20 mins or so of the macbook airport joining the network.
do you have other recommendations? anyone else?
    again, many thanks!

  • Hi, I have a macbook pro and when using FaceTime outgoing calls it says connecting but it never connects, however, I can receive incoming calls. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro and when making outgoing calls on facetime I get to connecting but it never does connect, however I can receive incoming calls. Any suggestions please?

    Hey there kakitiga,
It sounds like you are trying to make a call with FaceTime, it never finishes connecting to the person you are trying to reach. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences. If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.
See Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a cable modem, DSL, or LAN Internet connection.
Consult Using FaceTime behind a firewall for necessary ports to open in firewalls, security software and routers.
If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.
Verify the phone number or email address being used is the correct one activated for FaceTime. You can verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
Verify that both parties have installed the latest software updates for their Mac and/or device. See:
Mac OS X: Updating your software
iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • [SOLVED]Kernel Panic when removing (without unmounting) a NTFS Usb pen

    Hi,
I am new to Arch linux, and I really like it, but since today i got a problem that i can't solve by myself...
When I plugged my EXT4 or Fat32 usb pen, and remove it without unmounting nothing bad happens, nautilus close the window the icon disapears.. everything is normal.
But if I do the same thing with my Usb pen formatted (on Windows 7) with NTFS, a Kernel Panic appears with a NTFS error code...
It is normal or it is any way to solve the problem ?
    Thanks in advance,

I'll reinforce what .:B:. said, removing a device _before_ unmounting it is a very bad idea, you are asking for trouble if you keep doing it regularly and you will probably be here sooner rather than later asking for help to recover your files because of that.
Take my words as a friendly warning, this things have a tendency to come back to bite you at the worst of times, and trying to recover data will take you more time and effort that properly unmounting the device before removing it.

How do i restore my wifi setting back to the factory settings? I have changed it somehow :/ and now my wifi will not connect. My Airport is on and showing full strength but will not connect.

Ok, if other devices are connecting but just not your MacBook then let's start troubleshooting the MacBook to possibly find out why.
Please try each of the following, in order, until hopefully resolved:
Note the following are excerpts from an OS X Daily article.
    * Turn Airport on & off – You can do this via the Airport menu bar or from the Network Preferences. This is the first thing you should try when troubleshooting Mac wireless problems.
    * Make sure Wireless/Airport card software & firmware is up to date – This is usually done just by going to the Software Update menu, if there are any updates available for your Mac or Airport, install them.
    * Delete and recreate connection – Try deleting and recreating/reestablishing the wireless connection, sometimes a setting can be corrupted and this may fix it.
    * Create a new Network Location – Similar to the above suggestion, try creating a new and different wireless network location to see if it resolves the connection problems.
    * Change DHCP auto settings to manual – sometimes there is a problem with the DHCP server, and if you manually set an IP address on the network you can be fine. Remember to set the IP to a high number so it wouldn’t interfere with other DHCP machines. As long as you have the subnet mask, router, and DNS settings configured manually as well, this shouldn’t be a problem.
    * Flush the DNS cache – Launch the Terminal and enter the following command onto one full line within the Terminal: dscacheutil -flushcache
    * Zap the PRAM – Reboot your Mac and hold Command+Option+P+R during restart until you hear another chime, let the Mac boot as usual.
    * Delete Wireless Config files – Delete com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist and com.apple.internetconfig.plist files from ~/Library/Preferences and reboot
    * Trash your home directories SystemConfiguration – Remove all files within ~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and then reboot your Mac.
    * Reset your Mac’s System Management Controller (SMC) – For MacBook and MacBook Pro’s: Shutdown the MacBook/Pro, remove the battery, disconnect the power, hold the Power Key for 15 seconds. Replace the battery, reconnect power, and zap the PRAM and wait for 2 chimes before letting the keys go. Let boot as usual.

  • Airport card on MacBook stops working when moved

Hi everyone, I've had this issue with my MacBook and I really don't know what to do anymore right now, so I hope someone here could give some advice.
Last week my Wifi stopped working properly. I noticed that nothing connected anymore, and then it turned out that the whole Wi-Fi dialogue became unresponsive. The list of networks didn't update, it was continuously scanning for networks, and in the network preferences, the Wi-Fi showed up as being off. Clicking the button to turn it back on didn't do anything (it wasn't greyed out, I could click on everything).
I came to the conclusion that this seemed to happen only when I moved the MacBook. The WiFi was fine when I just sat at my desk all day, but most of the time when I went to another room with it, this happened.
I was on the phone with Apple support for a few days. They suggested several things to test. We tested, we waited, I observed, we tested again, waited observed. Needless to say, the problem persisted. After a few days I was advised to reset my MacBook completely. So I did, waited observed, and it still happened.
I was then advised to go to the Apple store. I spoke to a Genius, he told me that the Bluetooth wasn't working and that it's probably the same issue. He told me they would replace the AirPort card and that would probably fix the issue. Several days later I got a call that this didn't fix the issue and that they would have to replace the logic board. At this point I had to keep telling the people from the Apple store what the actual problem was, which is that the WiFi stopped working after a while when I moved my MacBook sometimes. They kept reassuring me that it was the same as the Bluetooth and kept referring to the Bluetooth in all communication. I asked them to test the WiFi first, which they obviously didn't do, since they didn't know that was the issue, before I authorized replacing the logic board. They said ok and that they would call me before the store closes on the same day.
Well I didn't hear from them, and eventually after a few days when I called them to see what's happening with it, they told me they replaced the logic board and that it was all working. I picked it up, I went home, I used it for a couple of hours and then the WiFi thing happened again. So this is where I'm at right now.
So, where do I go from here?
I am really dependent on my MacBook atm, as I'm finishing up my PhD thesis. I'm also not rich, so I can't have all parts of my MacBook be replaced to see if anything ends up working. I figure I might as well buy a new one if that's the only possibility?
Every Apple employee I've been in contact with was really friendly, so I can't complain about that, but I feel like nobody is really looking at the actual issue that I'm having, so handing the MacBook in for repairs again really worries me (apart from the fact that it takes a lot of time that I shouldn't spend if nothing comes out of it).
    Does anybody have some advice?

    OK totally understand that.
Did they do the following procedures?
    Reset SMC
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
    Reset NVRAM
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
"nobody has informed me of the whole truth of what has actually been done to the MacBook "
It would seem to me that if there was a logic board problem that it would be consistantly there. If moving the MBP causes a failure that would seem to be a connection problem. Specifically the connection to the WiFi/BlueTooth board.
Have the Apple Hardware test ready to run:
OS X Yosemite: Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test
and the next time it fails see if you can get it to kick out a failure code. Then they'd have to replace the logic board.

  • MacBook can't see Airport Express when waking from sleep

    Hi,
I have an airport express unit specifically for using with air tunes. I am find that every time my macbook wakes from sleep although it reconnects to my wireless network ok it (and therefore itunes) can't see the AX anymore.
Rebooting the AX unit fixes the problem and i can again stream from itunes but i dont want to have to reboot the AX each time beacuse my MacBook goes in and out of sleep 5+ times a day as i move it around the house.
I am not having any issue with audio drop out or stuttering as mentioned by others, nor does the ax stop working once streaming has begun.
    My Setup is:
    MacBook OSX 10.4.11
    Airport Express (latest firmware)
BeBox wireless router (rebranded speedtouch) running WPA2 security
Any suggestions on what i can do to stop this recurring?

I've recently developed a similar problem. When my PowerBook G4 wakes from sleep it can no longer see the Airport Express. It still connects to the Internet, and the AX continues to shine a steady green light. I've written an Automator script that restarts the router, and once it reboots the AX shows up again in iTunes or the AirPort utility.
Customer service for my router claims this is an issue with the AX. Anyone have any ideas?
    Computer: PowerBook G4, 10.5.2
Wireless network: TrendNet TEW-432 G router, WPA, DHCP, SSID broadcast off, no MAC filter, Airport Express set up to join network (not extend).
    Thanks,
    tyler

  • MacBook Pro 15" resets when Airport Utility opens

My 2011 Macbook Pro randomly resets throughout the day.
This seems to be only when on the internet and every time the Airport Utility opens.
I've re-installed the software and switching the WiFi off will allow the computer to start.

Thanks, Tim. I will try your suggestions. I've been tinkering on my own with this problem, and a pattern may be emerging. I was asking myself, why DID I have internet access from the MacBook Pro the other evening and at no other time through a wireless connection since the 10.6 upgrade, save the fleeting moments when AirPort has just been turned on? Well, that seems to be the only time that the MacBook was connected to AirPort FIRST.
So, I turned AirPort off on this computer (the G5 tower that hasn't experienced problems) and toggled off and on AirPort on the problem machine. Internet access has again resumed on the laptop. After several hours of periodic usage, I turned AirPort back on on the G5, and both machines have been functioning well since.
I suspect tomorrow will be a different story, unless I repeat these steps (I don't typically shut down the desktop machine overnight). We'll see.

Hi Roy, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

It happened twice with 2 different MacBook Pro in the same wifi.
I reset and plugged in an airport express to make a hard reset.
After that, it appeared in the wifi from my MacBook Pro, so I dibble clicked it to configure it as an airplay dispositive.
When my Mac was configuring it, it said waiting for airport express and then a problem occurred.
I tried with another MacBook Pro and happened exactly the same.
Now both macs can't connect to the wifi at home, well, it says it's connected but with an "!" Sign and not working. Just with that particular net.
    Can somebody help me please?
