Macbook Air Already Registered To Someone Else, Apple's Problem or JB HI-FI's Problem?

Hi every,
I purchased a Ex Demo Macbook Air from JB Hi-FI 2 weeks ago which is a 2011 model, ( salesmen said it was mid 2012 ) but anyways that's another matter. I was using my Air today and i experienced a fault with the sound, I was on the desktop and went to open an app and then a sound started (like a static ticking) which was loud and i was unable to close the app as it never opened and i couldnt restart or shut down.
After holding the power button down to restart it, i thought, i should register this new Macbook Air under my account, incase something is wrong with it.
So i went to the apple site and logged in and entered my serial to register it for the 1 year warranty cover and low and behold, it's already been registered! Also the service repairs is valid for another 4 days, Phone Tech Support is expired, Applecare extention option expires in 4 days also.
So moving forward, This product i have bought is registered to someone else. Am i in my rights to request a brand new unit, and if they don't make mid 2011 models anymore and I entitled to a lastest model? Under the retail purchasing laws i am entitled to 1 year warrenty and the services provided when purchasing IE: phone support etc.
On Apple's website it says the following:
If you believe the information shown for your product is incorrect, you can submit your proof of purchase online or by fax. Your sales receipt is needed for Apple's 1-year limited warranty and AppleCare Protection Plan validation, so be sure to keep it in a safe place. Apple's 1-year limited warranty is the same whether or not you register.
My problem now is, after experiencing the sound fault i experienced, should i try and talk to JB HI-FI or fill out the proof of purchase for Apple and subit to them and see what happens?
Thanks in advance for your advise, and i hope this makes sence.

should i try and talk to JB HI-FI
Yes. You should take the computer the place you bought it from and talk to them.

Cannot find the link to contact support Every time I put the serial number in it says it's already registered

Just call AppleCare directly and provide them the serial number. They may have to manually register it to you.

Here is Apple's instructions of what do do.  Apple will do nothing to help find or disable the iPod.

I registered my new iPhone 5s to my usual Apple ID, however it isn't showing in my devices when I log in. I tried to register it by adding a new device, but it tells me it's already registered to a different Apple ID. I'm really not sure how to fix this. I only have the one Apple ID and the phone is brand new, purchased directly from Apple.
When I check on the phone itself (iCloud and App Store settings) the Apple ID is correct. I'm not sure where else to check.
Whilst setting up the phone, it prompted me to register, which I did. Then when connecting to my laptop through iTunes it prompted me again so I registered again. I even got a confirmation email to the email address associated with my Apple ID that the registration was successful.
How can I add my iPhone 5s to the list of devices on the correct Apple ID?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • IPhone registered to someone else?

When registering my product here: https://supportprofile.apple.com/PramsAddRegisterProduct.do When I added my serial number, it said that it was registered to someone else... I was wondering if the other regestation could be canceled, or what should i do otherwise?

You mean that during the Setup Assistant, it is prompting you for an Apple ID and Password?  Or do you currently have access to the device?
If so, in the Settings > iCloud, is there an Apple ID listed at the top?  Is Find My iPhone turned on?  If so, then you need to return the device, or get the previous owner to remove the device from their iCloud/FMiP Account.

  • I live in the US and want to buy a MacBook Air with norwegian keyboard in the Apple Store. Is that possible?

I live in the US and want to buy a MacBook Air with norwegian keyboard in the Apple Store. Is that possible?

In earlier years you can go th an Apple Store, buy a Macbook Pro and ask for a replacement to a other type of keyboard. I do this 2-3 times in the last years for german keyboards. If you done this on the same day you bought the macbook, the replacement happened without charge anything. It was a great service.
Yesterday i go back to the same store like before and both - the sales representative and the guys an the GeniusBar told me - that this is not offered by Apple anymore. Because the US Apple Online Store do not offer other Keyboards the US-based keyboards and the German Apple Online Store do not deliver to other countries the final conglusion from the Apple Stuff was:
Flight to germany, but it over their.
I see here in the Support community a lot of questions about norwegian, german and other kind of keyboards they want to buy in the US. Their is obviously a need for this. And from the logistic standpoint, it should be easy for Apple to offer that in the Online Stores itself.
For me the conglusaion is: I stay with my old Macbook Pro and hope i need no replacement within the next years. To order it in germany, ship it to a friend, pay taxes twice (in germany and vur customers) plus shipment, make it to expensive (bottonline: 600-800$ more than buy it in the US) make no sense to me.

  • HT5621 How do I change the Apple ID stored on my MacBook Air?  I have changed my Apple ID on the Apple ID website, but both my MacBook Air and my iMac show the old Apple ID when accessing iCloud.

How do I change the Apple ID that is stored on my MacBook Air.  I have changed my Apple ID on the Apple ID website but both my MacBook Air and my iMac show the old Apple ID when accessing iCloud.

I had this problem on my iMac and fixed it after a  half hour of frustrated trying.  I had changed my Apple ID on my iPad mini while traveling.  When I finally got back home after a few months, I couldn't  log in to iTunes on my iMac.  The old Apple ID was still being used on my iMac.  I tried just highlighting it and deleting it and typing in my new Apple ID.  No dice. The login just defaulted to my old Apple ID.  I tried clicking on the drop down menu that appears when you right right click your Apple ID  that appears at the top of the page after highlighting the 'iTunes Store" in the left side list.  I saw "account" so I clicked on that.  The "account" settings on my iMac showed my new Apple ID but my iMac wouldn't use it. It just kept defaulting to my old ID. I shut down.  I logged back in.  Same result.  Finally I right clicked the same drop down menu and saw "sign out" at the bottom of the list.  Even though I was not signed in to iTunes, I clicked "sign out".  My next log in to iTunes showed my Apple ID as blank and I was able to type in my new ID.  Hope this helps.
I am a long time 20 year Microsoft user. I am somewhat ( 1 year) new to Apple. With Microsoft, I found that fixing problems was clunky and complex, but there was always a post somewhere that explained the fix. Microsoft's explanations stated even the most obvious fact. Even if everyone knew that the sky was blue, Microsoft's instructions would still tell you that the sky was blue.  With Apple, I find that the obvious is sometimes not so obvious.  But the fix is almost always easy once you find it, without many of the elaborate maneuvers needed in Windows.

  • Imei number registered to someone else cant unlock

I have an iphone thats' imei number is registered to someone else , does that mean i cant unlock it because it itsnt registered to me ?

Carriers will generally only authorize unlocking for the last person to use the phone on their network. If not you, your only choices are to either establish service yourself, then request the phone be unlocked, or get whoever used it last on the network to request the unlock.

  • Used iPad, registered to someone else

I bought an iPad2 from Gazelle but it is registered to someone else.  When I asked about this they just offered to return (but not exchange the unit).
I know you can't "find" it if it is lost or stolen, but if you want a used ipad you can register yourself do you have to buy it from an individual rather than a place like Gazelle.  It is a great ipad, there just doesn't seem to be a place to call and ask.
    thanks

You'll find the iPad to be great!
Here's the reference manual, which you may find helpful:
    iPad User Guide - For iOS 7 (October 2013)Nov 1, 2013 - 23 MB
Gazelle warns sellers to erase the device and remove the activation lock.  Somehow, unfortunately, the one you bought got through inspection.  I would guess that is rare.
    Enjoy!

Whatever you read was incorrect. You can upgrade directly to Mavericks. It is in the App Store and is free.
Snow Leopard predates the operating system you already have. That's the reason it will not install on your MacBook Air. You spent $20 needlessly for it, but it's yours to resell if you wish.

  • MacBook Air will not boot. Error Message says "Your Computer restarted because of a problem."

MacBook Air will not boot. Error Message says "Your Computer restarted because of a problem."

If you can't start up and log in in the usual way, try in safe mode.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Log in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. If you have only one account, you are the administrator.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode.
If you're able to log in, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.

  • I am trying to set up a new Apple ID for my 2 sons.  It says that both of their emails are already in use for someone else Apple ID.  They don't have other emails.  What do I do?

Apple ID already in use by someone else.

    Cara,
If those email addresses are already in use somewhere else, you can get new email addresses for your kids.  You can do this via your ISP, or by one of the free email services such as hotmail, yahoo, or gmail.
