MacBook and husband's iPhone won't connect to home Wifi, but my iPhone and iPad will.

As of this week, our home Wifi won't connect our MacBook (2008) or my husband's iPhone 4 to our home Internet.  Our iPad 2 and my iPhone 4 still connect no problem.  We appear to get the signal, but get error messages about not connecting to the Internet with browsers.
We've tried turning things off and on, forgetting and re-adding networks, and copying info from my phone to his, but have all been unsuccessful.
We share our Internet with our neighbor and nothing has changed with that.  We asked her to turn off/on the router and/or modem with no change.
The ONLY difference I can think of is my husband started his last semester at school this week and he uses both devices on campus.  He has to use his campus ID and password to get on campus Wifi so he doesn't change any settings, but I feel like its all leading back to that.
Any help would be much appreciated!  Thank you!!!

Forgetting the Network didn't work.  It's dong the same thing.
So if it's a router problem, what can we do?
Two devices work, and two don't...I just don't understand why.
Could it be that too many people have logged into our wireless and now it's out of IP's? Could we ask people who have previously logged into our internet to delete it completely? I don't know if that would free anything up?

My iPad will not connect to my WIFI, but my iMac and iPhone will. Any Suggestions?

I am currently having the same problem with music that is downloaded to my laptop and stored into itunes/itunes match which is not downloading to my ipad.  I had this same problem a few months a go and it was fixed with a update to my ipad but it has happened again with most recent update.  The bad thing is I didn't notice until I went to listen to the music on my ipad and it was available.  Apple is becoming very unattractive to me.  I am in search of a diffrent device.

EUREKA, I found the solution to my problem in a Discussion initiated by gingertodd on July 27, 2011 entitled "Safari in Lion hijacked by malware."  The solution was provided by Badunit who recommended force quitting Safari and then reopening it while holding down the Shift key.  It worked instantly, and I subsequently was able to open Safari normally by just clicking on its icon in the Dock.   THANK YOU BADUNIT!

My Iphone 4S is connected to my wifi but will not connect to the internet.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try going to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Once you've reset your network settings you will need to be able to plug in your wifi/router password to your wifi appliance. (password to wifi router)
    Good luck.

  • Installed IOS7 for IPad~now can't connect to home WiFi, but worked @Library.So IOS7 doesn't like Sky Yahoo

For days I have been unable to use my IPAD except to view what is already there. I downloaded IOS7 and all was ok for about a week but suddenly one morning I woke up to find that my gadget doesn't want to connect WiFi via my home provider. This happens to be Sky Yahoo. So, short of changing providers, I don't know what to do. Only purchased my IPAD 2 in June this year but am already wishing that I had chosen the Samsung Galaxy Note. (it was a close call). The tech guys in the shop have tried to help but as soon as I am out of range of the shop I am back to square one. Called in at my local library today and had no problem connecting to their WiFi.
Can i "uninstall" IOS7 or is there a way round this problem before I go crazy?  This is being sent from my laptop, obviously. Any and all help gratefully accepted.....especially if it works.

    You can't downgrade the iOS.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. You may have many open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign.

  • My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet, but my phone and PC will.

My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet. My iPhone has no problem doing so, and neither does my PC. I think it's something to do with my DNS, but I'm not sure. My network connections say that both my Ethernet or FireWire are failed. What's wrong with my MacBook? Is there a simple way to fix this?

    Hello Rattisate,
Sorry to hear you are not able to connect to Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.  You can find information on how to troubleshoot this in the following article:

  • IPhone 4s connected to home wifi but won't allow connection to internet etc...

We recently received a new modem from the cable/internet company and although the iPhones indicate they are connected to home wifi they won't connect to facebook, yahoo, google, update email. Basically we are using our data in our home with a working internet. The computers are working fine. I have spent a few hours with the cable company and the phone company trying to solve this issue. They both say it is an issue with the other party....we have not update to the new OS yet... could this be a setting issue within the phone not responding to the new modem? Should we try updating the phones OS?
my kids are running through their data...any advice would be helpful. I have already had to pay for the unsuccessful help of the cable company.

  • IPhone won't connect to my router, but will to my neighbours'!

I have an iPhone 3G with the latest software update installed, and a Netgear DG834N wireless router (latest firmware). The router has no security enabled except MAC filtering and a hidden SSID.
Until recently, the phone would connect to the router successfully. Its MAC address is still listed on the router panel. But suddenly it cannot see the router at all, even if it's right next to it. If I enter the network's name, the iPhone responds with 'network not found'. And yet it has no trouble connecting to my neighbours' wireless routers even two houses along the road.
I've tried the obvious things, like un-hiding the SSID and turning off MAC filtering, but it makes no difference.
I just don't get it: why would an iPhone 3G be unable to detect a router with no security which is in the same room? I have three Macs in the house which detect a strong signal from the router across three whole floors and into the garden!

Ok this is getting RIDICULOUS Apple... there is obviously a problem with the software/firmware... this WiFi issue is popping up on ALL iPhone old and new; heck some of these people just bought a phone 2 weeks ago and the WiFi has quit working.
I have spent the better part of a month surfing the discussion forums looking for a resolution to my iPhone WiFi woes, to no avail!! I have tried all the reasonable suggestions, nothing. I have tried all the crazy and moronic suggestions and still nothing. Every once in a while I can connect to my WiFi, but it only last a few seconds. I tried the restart, the static IP, a new router, no security, b, g, f and z :o) Seriously... this shat is broke and Apple needs to fix it.
I am a 20 year veteran of IT and network solutions, and with everything I have tried, I have not been able to resurrect my iPhone's WiFi. The bottom line is this... I purchased my iPhone on June 29th, 2007 and it has work flawlessly with any network, hot spots, at work, with security without, with mac address filitering and without and many other configuration... until iPhone OS 2.2.1, and now I and hundreds if not thousands of others can no longer connect to WiFi.
It surely does not seam like Apple reads or monitors these forums... but I will say this... we need to all STOP spending our time monkeying around with our wireless networks and instead start writing, calling and posting here asking if not telling Apple to fix this problem in the next firmware release.
I for one will be giving up on the iPhone if Apple does not fix this issue soon. The iPhone becomes basically like any other so-called smart phone without the WIFi... heck you cannot do half of the cool things on the iPhone without the WiFi feature.
Come'on Apple fix the iPhone WiFi.

  • Iphone 5 not connecting to home wifi

    Hi,
I have a problem with my iPhone 5 not connecting to my home wifi. This is a recent (just today) issue, it has been connecting with no problem for over 2 years and remembering the password.
    Today
It sees my SSID, if I click on it I get asked for the password - I enter the password (checked with my router settings and correct), and I get the message:
"Incorrect Password for "SSID" (name changed)
    What I have done:
    1. I have rebooted the phone (failed to fix)
    2. I have reset my Network settings on the phone (failed to fix & mashed all my email settings)
    3. I have backed up my phone to iTunes (BUT NOT RESTORED IT - YET)
    4. I have rebooted my (netgear DGN1000 router) (failed to fix).
    5. I have reset my router to factory settings, and whilst set with factory resets, tried to connect my phone (phone failed to recognise the default password)
    6. I have reset my SSID and password to my preferences.
    7. I reset my wireless encryption to "disable", and get message on the phone "Unable to join the network "SSID" (the lock icon disappeared off my phone)
    8. I reset the encryption, the lock icon re-appeared, and I get message "Incorrect password..."
    9. Other items: ipad air, Kindle Fire HD, iPhone 4 - all connect to the wifi with no problems, did before and still do now.
10 Been to the O2 store (O2 are my provider), and the phone connected to their In Store wifi with no issues (they say no fault on phone)
    11. I have rung Virgin media (my landline & internet provider) and they have checked my router settings (they are OK) and advise me they can't help with the phone as it's "..an unsupported device.."
    Stuck now! &

    zolala:
Virgin media is my internet provider, and I have rung them too; They talked me through the router settings, but the iPhone is "unsupported".
    My router settings are correct.
Can you explain "...are you using Apple Airport Extreme for hm network?..." please?
    raymond73:
I have an "old Dlink GSL624" and I dug this out, but can't find the factory code for the passphrase (I had to reset to factory default)
If nothing else works, I'll get onto Virgin media and threaten to move isp unless they send me a new router. I have been with them for - well the days of dial up - well over 10 years probably.
I am currently restoring the iPhone to its factory default. I will set up as a new phone to test, and IF it works, I'll then restore to backup - If it stops working after this, I'll have to copy all my contacts somehow, and then start from scratch again.
Any idea how I can copy just my contacts somewhere I can restore them from easily?
    Thanks

  • My iPad connects to my wifi but my iPhone wont

My iPhone 4s won't connect to my wifi at home. My iPad connects fine.

Thanks Allan, it's extremely rare that I get a problem with any of my Apple devices but it's great to know there's help out there when I do.

  • IPhone does not connect to home Wifi

I have a wifi working but on my iphone or any other device other than a computer does not connect to home wifi. What should I do?

    Hi leilaboxergirl,
So, when you go to Settings>WiFi, what do you see?
    Is WiFi = On?
Under Choose a Network, is anything showing for you to select?
Is the Ask to Join Networks button on?

  • IPad and iPhone won't connect to home network with new modem

I had to replace a modem today and after finally getting my computer to connect wirelessly, now my iphone and ipad will not connect.  My wifi names did not change, nor did the router - just my modem.

Thanks for the suggestion; already tried that. So I just reset the printer and, even though it already recognized my desktop and laptops, it now sees the iphone and ipad. All is well...

  • IPhone 6 won't connect to home WiFi - Password Incorrect!

So, I got my brand new iPhone 6 yesterday.. Everything seems to work fine, except for internet connection..
Every time I attempt to connect, it rejects me, and tells me that the password is incorrect.
I also, can't really reach the the network by walking only 10 meters away.. I really have to stand right next to the router to get a chance.
I've tried reseting my phone completely, and it still doesn't work.
I can easily connect at school, that why I really can't decide if it's a hardware issue, or if it's my home network.
I just don't get it... Because we're a lot of users at home, we got tons of devices connected to the specific network. And its working impeccable.
So my question is.... Does this have something to do with iOS 8 and it's wellknown bugs, or do I have to get my iPhone replaced?

I just tried this and it worked, hopefully it works for you too, I have spent the last 3 hours trying to figure this out and nothing worked, I tried rebooting both my phone and the router, turning the airplane mode, etc etc I even took the password requirement off my router and still it would say "unable to join network"
All along it was my router and not my phone.
The routers have a list of allowed devices, called MAC filtering addresses, I had to manually add my phone's address and that fixed the "incorrect password issue"
I went to General > About > Wi-Fi address (copy that long number/letters thing) then log into your router and access the MAC filtering allowed devices list and enter that address in there and save it, that indicates to your router that your phone is allowed to access the network.
As soon as my husband added that address I tried entering the network password on my phone and finally it connected
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro (13" mid 2010) unable to connect to home wifi?

    Hi everyone
I have a Macbook pro 13" mid 2010. Up until recently, airport was able to connect to my home wifi. I have not changed anything on the home wifi network.
The laptop is on 10.6.8, with all software updates installed.
I have recently installed boot camp onto this laptop and did a software update. Could that be a problem?
    Attempted solutions:
    1 PRAM reset
    2 Disabling IPv6
3 Reboot laptop and restart modem/router
4 Deleting all keychain networks and passwords
5 Deleting networks from Network Settings/Advanced Settings
    6 Using Assist Me option
7 Changing home wifi network from WPA to WPA2
8 Changing home wifi broadcast channel to a less used channel
9 Connecting to another landline network (also did not work)
Surprisingly, I am able to connect to my mobile phone's wifi tether. My monthly data usage limit isn't very high and this isn't a real option.
Normally what happens, is I enter the password to join the wireless network and it'll give me a Connection timed out error message.
I have 5 other PCs in the house that can connect to the network, my MBP is the only mac and the only one that cannot connect. My android mobile phone can connect, my sister's iPhone 3GS can connect.
Can anyone help? Or suggest something I may have missed?

I have the same MBP Version 7.1 that you have and it also states in the System Profiler HDMI Display port
Output: Connection : Display. Now what that means, im not sure.
But i have also connected an HDMI cable via an adapter made by iWires Tech Link purchased at the Apple store and have the same problem as you, only video with no sound from the TV.
I've looked at the settings that eww has suggested in System Preferences > Sound > Output tab and their is no options available for HDMI out, or Display Audio or anything else for that matter, except built in speakers, and Audio port for sound output.
Which lead me to use the Audio port to send the sound out via an amp and speaker system independent to the TV.
Thats why i researched for the other adapters which send out the sound and the audio through the same adapter.
