MacBook black

My MacBook Pro won't turn on. Can anyone help please?

Since you see to be having some sort of mechanical failure, I would make an appointment at your local 'genius bar' as soon as possible. If any part of the repair includes replacing your hard drive, beg to keep your old one as you may be able to put it in a USB enclosure and get some of the data off of it.
For the future, see -> Most commonly used backup methods.
Good luck,

  • Mini DVI to DVI adapter not working for MacBook BlackRAM upgrade for MacBook black (Early / Mid 2008 model - MB404LL/A)

    Hello.
I have recently purchased an external display monitor (LG D2342P LED) and I am trying to connect my MacBook black - MB404LL/A (Mac OS X 10.6.8, Core2Duo 2.4 GHz) to the LG LED monitor using mini DVI to DVI adapter. The dispay is getting detected by the macbook in the display preferences but the screen shows "No video input" ( as a blank-black that bahaves as no input coming to the Monitor).
Please help, what should I do to connect to the monitor ?  Is there any setting that I am missing that needs to be preconfigured or is this an issue with software update of 10.6.8 ?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, shldr2thewheel. I ll go ahead with the RAM specification you have mentioned.
Can you please suggest about the Hard Drive, what should be the specification I should be looking for compatibility of my MacBook black ?

  • Bad Optical Drive Replaced with a New MacBook Black!

    Hello,
I just wanted to write and let you all know of my 1st experience buying a Mac computer. I needed a laptop, so I
decided on the MacBook. I saw BH Photo had some 1st generation
Macbooks at a decent price, so I took the plunge and bought one.
When it arrived, I tried loading Adobe's Creative Suite software,
however the optical drive keep rejecting the media. So I made an
appointment with an Apple Genius at our local Apple store. To my
surprise, after the Tech confirmed the drive was not working, he
asked me if it would be OK if he just replaced my whole machine. He
brought out a new machine which upgraded me to the 2nd generation
    with a 2ghz duo core 2 processor, a full gig a ram, and a 6x
    superdrive. Wow!
Well, when I arrived home, I once again went through the whole
process of setting up the machine. This time when I placed a cd in
the optical drive it made a horrible mechanical noise, like it was
taking a bite out it. I couldn't believe my bad luck.
Today, I took it back to the Apple Store, and again the Tech
confirmed there was something wrong with the drive. I really thought
that they would just replace the drive for me since they had already
upgraded my machine for free. However, the Tech asked me if I would
like the top of the line Black MacBook since I had to return a second
time. I couldn't believe it...I really had liked the looks of the
black MacBook, but could not justify paying nearly $200 just for the
    black color.
Well, tonight I'm writing to you on my new MacBook Black laptop.
I've got the entire Creative Suite loaded on it along with Lightroom,
and I'm very happy with the performance thus far.
Apple has the best customer service I have ever dealt with...they
just might have won over a new customer for life!
Judgement of a company should not be solely on the mistakes they make, no company is going to be perfect, to me is a much better scale to see what they do about their mistakes...I love my new MacBook Black!

    Awesome, another fellow BlackBook owner.
Coincidentally, I've found Apple's customer service is generally pretty good. I had to exchange my week-old Blackbook b/c of a slight seperation of the screen bezel (next to the iSight). They were really up-front "...this shouldn't be doing this...please have a seat, we'll exchange this for you right away...do you need us to transfer your data?" Wow. Not to rant, but this is a lot different than when we were at Best Buy a year ago and my g/f bought her Vaio (she teaches at a high school that is PC-only, no Mac at all). She uses her old G3 Lombard as a spare and it still runs beautifully.
The Vaio had a blemish on the lid (paint defect on the lid...bubbles) that we brought back the same day. No big deal, just want an exchange. The kid-manager-on-duty told us that it was "within manufacturer's specifications....restocking fee...etc." before even looking at it. We told him it wasn't a pixel, but a paint defect, and he could at least look at it before telling us to "pound sand." After a 10min demand for the store manager, they relented and exchanged the Vaio for us. Her Vaio just had an XP re-install this last weekend but is otherwise in excellent shape.
After our expeirence w/ my Macbook exchange (..."have a seat...transfer data..etc.") she bought herself a new Mac Mini and is anxiously awaiting it to arrive.
    Happy Macs to all.

  • Can't remove battery on Macbook Black

    Hey.
Today I decided it was time to clean my MacBook Black [refurbished], so I powered it down and went to take out the battery. I used a coin to unlock the battery, which didn't seem to pop up. For the life of me, I can't prise the battery out. I don't want to force the thing out, as it's my only battery and I need the laptop for school work.
So yeah, help would be appreciated. The only thing I can think of which may have caused the problem is the fact that the battery was originally very loose, and I asked a guy at my school [who's noramlly very trustworthy and good with Macs] to secure it inside the battery holder and then lock it.

hi there and welcome to apple discussions!
i'd take it back to your tech at school and ask him. i know your probably on vacation, but sometimes staff is there in the summer (at least thats the case in my town )
if you can't get to the tech, take it to an Apple store. if the tech at your school is a Authorized Service Provider, they can take out the battery under warranty. if the person wasn't an ASP, then your warranty is void and you'll have to pay for the labor and parts.
i've always cleaned my MacBook without taking out the battery, and its been fine. what kind of cleaning would you do on a black MacBook anyway?
    hope that helps!

    Thanks guys and great job!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Pictures would help. A good way to do this is to post them to a free photo sharing site like Flickr and then post a link.
Also, you are in the original MBP section, and I think you need to post your question in the newer MBP section:

  • Average Maximum Cycle Count for Early 2008 MacBook (Black)

I have a black early 2008 MacBook that now in its fourth year, and I have noticed that battery health have started to diminish.
I am wondering what is the maximum battery cycle count for the early 2008 black MacBooks, and if its time to replace it? (I have 250 cycle count, with 78% health remaining)

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • What about to run color on a macbook black

sorry, i dont know much abou color but, i just buy a macbook black, its recomended to run color on my computer????
    thanks..

You will not be able to run Color on this machine. Color only supports certain video cards, you do not have nearly enough video RAM in your system, and Color requires a minimum display resolution of 1680x1050 which the MacBook does not support (meaning the interface will be tiny and barely readable).
There is a tweak here for getting it to start up if you don't meet the minimum requirements, but I don't think the application will be usable on a MacBook:

  • If i bought an older Macbook (black) is it possible to upgrade ?

If i bought an older Macbook (black) is it possible to upgrade other components such as processer etc.. or am i stuck with it being unable...matter of fact are there black macbooks i dont want a macbook pro?!?! Thanks

CPU will be soldered directly to the motherboard.  About the only things possible to upgrade on any Apple laptop are RAM (if not max'd out) and hard drive.
The current models are listed on www.apple.com (and no black ones anymore, sorry).

  • Question about Snow Leopard and my Macbook Black

I have a macbook black and run it with 4gb of ram right now--the new info for snow leopard says that the OS will support 8gb+ ... is there a hardware issue on a late 2007 macbook black that's preventing this or will I be able to drop 8gb of ram in this guy once i upgrade the os?

Yes, considering that Snow Leopard (10.6.x) will theoretically support up to 16TB of RAM (Even though that is not possible right now on a consumer machine) it does not mean your hardware will support it. If you have only hardware capable of utilizing 4 GB of RAM, then no matter what the OS's max is, if the RAM slots and the rest of the hardware can not address or otherwise interact with the RAM, it will not be supported, and considering you do not have a MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro, you will not be able to address this amount of RAM, and could cause problems. If you need 8 GB of RAM, then look into this computer for notebooks:
    13": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB991LL/A?mco=NjcxMTQ5Mg
    15": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC118LL/A?mco=NjcxMTU2OQ
    17": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC226LL/A?mco=NjcxMTU1OQ
or for desktops: iMacs: 20": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB417LL/A?mco=NDE4Mzg3Ng
    24": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB420LL/A?mco=NDE4Mzg5OQ
    For Mac Pros: Quad-Core: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB871LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIwNA
    and for 8-Core: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIyMQ
The 8-core machine can come with up to 32 GB, but for 32 GB of RAM from Apple, it is $6100 extra from the original 6GB that comes standard. For the best deal for the amount of power you get for how much you pay would be the Mac Pro, and for notebooks it would be the MacBook Pro, and if you are doing the things that soak up RAM like video editing, you would want a 15" or 17" MacBook Pro or a 24" iMac, because the screen size would be best for displaying your RAM-soaking applications. If you need tons of power (talking 3.2+ Gigaflops a second) you would want to get a Mac Pro, with a 24" or 30" external display screen. You could also get a 3rd party screen for less, but if you want all of the features of the Apple Display, you should go for this option. Also, the Mac Pro can support more that 1 24" cinema display if configured correctly, which can be combined to make a really wide screen, perfect for the ultimate multitasker. Hope that was of help.

  • I've a macbook black middle 2007, can i install osx mountain lion?

I've a macbook black middle 2007, can i install osx mountain lion?

I'm afraid not >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Must be a MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

  • Mountain Lion on MacBook Black

Hi, i want to install mountain lion on my macbook black and i don't know if it is compatible, can you help with this ?

No, the last Black MacBook was the Early 2008 model 4,1.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

  • Graphics Problem on Macbook Black

I have been testing out my new Macbook black and I have noticed that iphoto and imovie briefly "scramble" when I use expose and in imovie sometimes when I play my project. Has anyone else seen this?

There's a new graphics update which you can download by clicking on the apple logo at the top left then going to Software Update... and if you haven't used software update there should be a number of updates; all of them you should download. Personally I run software update every month.

  • MacBook Black Adobe CS3 Suite

How well does the MacBook Black handle the Adobe CS3 Suite?
I prepare large documents for different groups (some being as many as 50 pages) and operate InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and a Word Processor all at the same time.
My largest concern is that I have to have some of the images I get in High Quality Display. With that alone CS2 will run slower and with the other two or three programs running on the Powerbook G4 I currently use, using CS2 and CS seems to work a lot better than CS3.
I know it probably has to do with the RAM, but will the RAM be able to handle this software system?
    Thanks!

Yea that has all mainly to do with RAM and CPU, so MacBook is fine. 2GB recommended, but 4GB if you can afford it does things best.

  • Should my Macbook (black 2008) be warped and the battery bloated?

A few weeks ago I noticed that the battery was bloated and the case had warped.
I have difficulty typing too as my wrist rests on the 'rests' and it clicks the mouse so end up typing and deleting text all over the place.
Is there anything (cheap) that can be done to fix this. I'm a student and can't afford too much..

If you can get to an Apple store they may replace the battery for free. If not try eBay.

  • Trying to get a MacBook Black keyboard other than US-english and Spanish...

    Hi,
I'm coming to Boston in July and was thinking about buying myself a MacBook Black when I get there. The thing is that I wanted to try and get an Icelandic keyboard on the MacBook. I know that Apple policies dictate that they can arrange to get any part anywhere. I was just wondering if anyone here knew who I should contact and how long this would take. I would use the phone support, but I can't dial 1-800 numbers from Iceland...
    Thanks in advance...

Have you tried accessing the Apple online store for the region you need the keyboard for? I bought a MacBook last year in Shabuya, Tokyo, Japan so I could get the Japanese keyboard.
