Macbook clients cannot connect to Windows Server 2008 RRAS with L2TP/IPSec

Hi everyone,
I had installed "Remote and Routing Access" or a VPN server on Windows Server 2008. The connection type set up is L2TP/IPSec. All the Windows clients can connect to the L2TP/IPSec VPN server without problem but Macbook users are facing problem.
The Macbook users got the error message "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator."
I think it is something related to the pre-shared key encryption but I am not sure. The Macbook users could connect if the connection type is changed to PPTP on server and clients side. I searched for similar problems and solutions online but no luck, I couldn't find solution that helps. I found this is a common problem faced by many macbook users.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion for this, please? I appreciate all the helps and suggestion given.
Thanks,
CK

Hi,
Thanks for the question, however, this forum is for Remote Desktop Clients related questions.
Regarding the issue, as Windows clients can connect with no problem, I suspect that it is a Mac side issue and I would like to suggest you contact Apple support for help.
Thanks.

  • 8.8 Client cannot connect to Windows Server 2008 error -1102

SAP Business On 8.8 on PL 18
This is not the first time I have had this issue with Windows Server 2008.
however everytime the resolution was diffrent. Now this site is causing trouble.
The issue is the client cannot connect. We have the log on window, can see the company list. type on the password and we get a -1102 error.
The client on the Server itself can log on. It is the cleints that cannot.
    I checked these below.
1 SQL Native client is installed and ok.
    2. Licence server is configured and ok
    3. The user has admin access to locl PC
    4. The SAP user name and password are correct ( client on server can connect fine )
    5. The ports 1433, 30000 and 30001 are open on the server.
    6. Through SQL server configuration the named pipes and TCP are enabled.
    7. SQL server browser is running
The only things I have not tried are
The Firewall is running on the server and I have not yet stopped it. Will try that tomorrow.
Do you have any other ideas please ?

I have got this working but I am not confidant of the outcome  - yet  - I really need your expert advise here.
This is what I did. In that order.
    1.     As Owen suggested I checked if there was a specified Port for the instance.  What I found was TCP Dynamic  ports were enabled (  SQL server config manager | network configuration | tcp properties ) and there was no TCP port specified.  Assuming ( ai may be wrong) that the system assigns a dynamic port to this instance  I set it up so the Dynamic port does not happen and manually specified the Port  1433. Restarted the SQL Service. ( still having the Port 1433 open in the firewall). This did not solve the issue.
    2.     With the above setting still on, switched off the firewall. Went to the PC client and SAP can log on now.  Now keeping the SAP client running, switched on the Firewall on the server. Log off SAP on PC client and log back in ( with firewall off ). SAP now can log on.
    3.     I had to do the above step for all PCs to get them working.
    4. Currently the firewall is on and clients can connect
So what could be happening? I have no clue. It is apparent there is some setting that gets saved within the PCs ( may be user profile) after the first log on with the Firewall off  - to say its safe ?
However I have no idea what will happen if the server is restarted u2013 this server we cannot restart any time we want as itu2019s a critical server and runs other things.
I would still like to get to the bottom of this to understand what is happening.
I have a SAP message running too and will ask them this same question.

  • Does anyone know How to run twin monitors on a MacBook Pro operating on a Windows Server 2008 R2 ?

    Hi
Does anyone know How to run twin monitors on a MacBook Pro operating on a Windows Server 2008 R2 ?

I know this doesn't help you much, but, I think you have to see if your Mac pro does audio out via HDMI. I don't even know if mine does via DVI. I think it may have to do with the adapter. Try going into Audio MIDI and setting the digital out to multichannel
and using the toslink cable for now. Lemme see...apparently DVI does not carry audio at all. Hm. apparently monoprice could be helpful?  If I understand what you're saying correctly: you want to take DVI and multichannel audio via the Toslink and have it all go out over HDMI, right? Whooo..... amazon...looks like it's about $100http://www.amazon.com/Audio-SPDIF-Toslink-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0015YYOQQ
just a shot in the dark
    I'm probably wrong....or not

  • I can not update a Windows Server 2008 R2 with Software Update Group in SCCM2012

    Hi all,
I got some problems with update deployments these days.
I try to configure SCCM2012 to update 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 (with Hyper-V / This server is in a cluster)
Actually i've 4 other Hyper-V servers and i would like to add one more in the cluster called Hyper-V5. To do that i need that all Hyper-V servers use the same Windows Updates.
I created a collection for my Hyper-V servers and then a Software Update Group with all needed updates (checked the list of another HV-Server).
I did a deployment on this collection using this new Software Update Group.
I checked the Sofwtare Center's logs on the Hyper-V5 server and i saw that synchronization has a successfull state.
But there is no updates installed or displayed in Sofwtare Center.
Here is some screenshots : Oh no i can't post image because ... "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account." waiting to be verified since months.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Have you try to run Software Updates Scan Cycle and Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle Actions on the client? Please check ScanAgent.log and PolicyAgent.log to see whether the client received the updates deployment policy.

  • Mouse not working in Virtual machine (win2k3 32 and 64 bit) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies

I have installed two virtual machines(win2k3 32bit and win2k3 64bit ) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies (Beta) enterprise. Mouse is getting lost inside VM (using CTRL+ ATL +  LEFT ARROW  comes mouse control control in host OS).
Is there any setting to make mouse works? Insert Integration Serice setup Disk operation succeeds.

     all credits for mike_something
The problem is that the old mousedriver is hooked to the mouse device class.
To remove this dependency, go into the registry and navigate to the key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue.
    Reboot....
    tadaaa!!
If you wish you can take out the drivers completely by deleting these registry hives completely :
    The driver:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msvmmouf
    The Service:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VPCMap
The CopyHook Shell Extension: ( for folder access )

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandle rs\VPCCopyHook
After a reboot you can delete the "Virtual Machine Additions" folder from program files...

  • Intermittant disconnection of Shared Drives on Windows 7 Client machines hosted in WIndows Server 2008 Standard Edition

    The environment - Windows Server 2008 Standard/Windows 7 32 bit Client machine.
Share - It is not a DFS share.
    Antivirus - McAfee
The issue - 1 user is unable to connect to a particular shared drive hosted from within the Windows Server 2008 Standard file server.  This drive is one of the multiple drives which are supposed to be connected to the user machine during logon using
the logon script.  All the other drives mentioned in the logon script gets mapped fine but one particular drive does not.  The user uses a laptop and we have checked his connections while in LAN, Wireless, VPN.  Everything seems to be working
fine apart from this one shared drive.  Rest of the users within that office gets the drive fine but just not this one user.  Since we are not domain admins so we do not have a visibility of the group policies linked to this particular drive and
hence RSOP as well does not help.  We have not seen the user getting logged into the machine using a TEMP profile as well for us to ascertain that the issue may be with a TEMP profile logon.
Please note that the drive does get connected at times and at times the connection just drops off!  As an interim measure the local IT has created a batch file and given it to the user which maps the drive for the user.
Any help in resolving this long impending issue would be much appreciated!
    Suman

    Hi Suman,
You could keep the session always active to workaround this issue. Please open Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options and set the value of the policy Microsoft Network Server:Amount
of idle time required before suspending a session to 99999 and see how it works.
This security setting determines the amount of continuous idle time that must pass in a Server Message Block (SMB) session before the session is suspended due to inactivity. Administrators can use this policy to control when a computer suspends an inactive
SMB session. If client activity resumes, the session is automatically reestablished. For this policy setting, a value of 0 means to disconnect an idle session as quickly as is reasonably possible. The maximum value is 99999, which is 208 days; in effect, this
    value disables the policy.

    Hi Krishna,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From your description it seems that you have purchased CAL for your client to get access. Whether you have purchase simple server CAL or RDS CAL (Per user or Per Device).
If you have purchase RDS CAL then you need to have install RDS License role service and then first need to activate the RD License server. After activating we can configure the RDS CAL on RD License server and for this you might need to call the MS clearing
house, explain them your situation and they will help you to activate and configure everything. After that we also need to point our RD License server to RDSH server.
For more information, you can refer below article.

  • Cannot connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

I have a database application that connects to the Northwind sample db in MS Access and lets the user perform CRUD operations.
Now I want to add the same for MS SQL Server, however, I have trouble connecting to it using this connection string:
I changed the server properties in SQL Server Management Studio to allow windows and SQL Server authentication, yet, I still get this exception when trying to open the connection:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I thought it might be because the server is not allowing remote connections and followed this guide to allow remote connections:
    http://www.linglom.com/2009/03/28/enable-remote-connection-on-sql-server-2008-express/
But the SQL Server windows service won't start. The Browser works fine, but the server doesn't do anything.
When trying to start it I get this error:
The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details.
    The event log says:

However, when starting SQL Server Management Studio, I can normally work with the databases, perform CRUD operations, etc.
I was wondering if it might be a connection string issue.
    I'm using this string:
    @"Server=lolcalhost;Database=Northwind;User ID=BEN-A350C47E32F;Password=;Trusted_Connection=False;";
I added the Northwind database as data source to the project and the connection string is in the app.config:

    <add name="NwindConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Nwind.mdb" providerName="System.Data.OleDb"/>
    </connectionStrings>
using this code to access it:
    constringServer = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NwindConnectionString"].ToString();
but when using this string I get an ArgumentException:
    Keyword not supported: 'provider'.
I'd appreciate any help that would let me connect to the server from a program.

Here is an active Sql connection string we use currently from our app.config file:

    <add name="ServerConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=SqlBox;Initial Catalog=YourCatalog;User Id=Username; Password=password;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/><br/> </connectionStrings>

  • Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "-". There are several possible reasons. Windows Server 2008 R2 with Microsoft Office 2010

I have a problem with starting the Excel Application under a particular user (service account).
I try to schedule this C# script through an application X (not Windows Task Scheduler. And this
application will always use a service account to run services on the server). If I run the C# script in
command prompt under the same user, it runs. Under the application X, which uses the exact same
user, to initiate the C# script, it fails to open the Excel application (not sufficient permission?).
This script calls application.Workbooks.Open(<ExcelFileName>,0,false,Type.missing....). At this line
of code, it gives the following error:
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "...". There are several possible reasons:
-The file name or path does not exist.
-The file is being used by another program.
-The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
I tried all the methods that I found online as follow:
Create directory "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 64 bit Windows) or "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 32 bit Windows).
Changed the DCOM config for the Microsoft Excel application to include this user for Local/Remote Launch and Access.
Enabled all macros in Excel application and set the Trust Center.
Add the user to have full control on all folders that contain the Excel file.
    Under DCOM
config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other users can't run the excel application
on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Yet, still the same error. I think it's permission but I am not sure where and what to do for this to work.
Now, normally, when I run this excel report, I can double-click on the file and it'd automatically run,
save the new parameters into the current file and generate a new excel file (with date attached to the
file name). That means there is a change (save) to the original file.
Environment: Windows Server 2008 R2 and running Microsoft Excel 2010.
    I appreciate all your help!

I am wondering if this has anything to do with having the user log into Excel.
In point #5 above: Under DCOM config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other
users can't run the excel application on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Because running with the launching user proposes an user to run the Excel application. However, I do not think there is any where that we can pass in the password for this user to Excel. However, this Excel has all the permissions to Excel application as
well as the folders that have the Excel files.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

  • Dymo Labelwriter printers not working via Mac Remote Desktop connection into Windows Server 2008

I'm having a really hard time getting Dymo labelwriters (models 335 turbo and 450 turbo) to work over a remote desktop connection and I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
To briefly describe the situation, I'm working for a Doctor's office, moving their IT from a remotely-hosted environment where employees connect to their Windows Server 2008 virtual machines (hosted off-site) via Windows 7 machines through Microsoft's remote
    desktop software.
The new setup will have new servers running in-house instead of remotely and will be based on Apple's Mac Mini machines running Windows 7 for some tasks through Parallels virtualization
software running directly on each employee's Mac Mini.
We have 3 of the Dymo 450 Turbo products and one 330 Turbo, each connected directly to a Mac Mini.
Here's the problem: I have Microsoft's Remote Desktop software running on the Macs natively, connected to each employee's virtual machine on the remote server for now, until the time comes to make the switch to using the new in-house server. The remote desktop
software works fine - employees are able to connect successfully and access their desktops fine. I have the "Forward Printing Devices" option checked in the Microsoft Remote Desktop app so that the hosted virtual desktops can see the local labelwriters.
However, the Dymo Label software running on the remote server will not recognize that a labelwriter is present.
If I go to the Printers and Devices window on the remote server, the labelwriter shows up fine, named "dymo labelwriter 450 turbo (redirected 10)" however running the Dymo Label software gives an error, "Dymo label says no printer connected:
dymo label printer requires a dymo label printer be installed and connected ..."
To try and narrow down the cause of the problem, on the same Mac, I ran Windows 7 via Parallels and set up a new remote desktop connection within that Windows VM. Just to be clear, instead of using the RDC software running in the Mac OS, this new connection
is using a Windows virtual machine running on the same Mac, with the RDC being established from within that Windows VM. Again, I forward printing devices and the labelwriter shows up in Printers and Devices on the remote server as "dymo labelwriter 450
turbo (redirected 10)" This time, the Dymo Label software recognizes the attached labelwriter and runs fine.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give on why, as far as the remote server is concerned, a forwarded labelwriter from Microsoft remote desktop running natively on a Mac isn't recognized
but it is if forwarded from within Windows, bearing in mind that the labelwriter shows up on the remote server in both instances and is called the same name in devices and printers.
Sorry for the long-winded question. I hope you can help me.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Firstly please check whether you have driver capable for your printer with MAC MRD. Also I would like you to check with updated MRD version 8.0.9 for MAC OSX.
    https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
Because as you have commented it can work with windows RDP, so please also try to contact Dymo Labelwriter printer and inquire regarding the issue.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your description, users cannot connect to Exchange server 2013 both internal and external.
Please run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration in Outlook to check your autodiscover service. Also
reset your Exchange virtual directory to connect correctly. If the issue still continues after all configurations are setting properly, collect some Event logs would be helpful.
If there is any question, please post the results here for further analysis.
    Thanks,

  • Internet connection for Windows Server 2008

I have an HP ProBook 6545b notebook computer which I installed an evaluation copy of Windows Server 2008 on. I'm trying to get internet connectivity to work but as yet, it's not.
I get the message that it can't find a network interface card but even with an Ethernet cable connected, it still won't connect to the internet.
For the background, this is the first time I'm trying this on a home computer being I'm a 2012 graduate of a technical school and I'm re-reading all my computer related textbooks.
The HP notebook I'm using gets the internet connection when I have Windows 7 Professional installed.
Is/are there a driver/drivers needed or a service in 2008 I need to install? If it's a driver, where can I get it?

    Hi,
That mean windows server does not recognize your network card, you can try the manufacturer driver, or the best move would be to setup a small virtual machine on your notebook, under a windows 7's OS.
You could use virtualbox, or similar product to achieve the goal.
    Thanks
    Regards, Philippe

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 with multiple Roles OS Rebuild, Need help with Certificates.

    Hi,
I have rebuilt a Server for my client and I require help with certificates..
I am unsure exactly what to do to get this server working as it was.
Example, The Windows Server 2008 R2 has Microsoft Exchange, DNS, DHCP, ADDS, FileServices,Network Policy and access Services and Webservices roles installed on a single box.
Since the Server OS Rebuild I am getting 2 issues that pop up usually when Outlook in opened on a client Workstation,
I have not dont anything certificate wise to the server since OS Install, and the messages I get and best described here
I seen on a backdrive, a few certificate files I dont know if we can use these files for anything but we have the following files of drive E (Backup)
    e:\server.xxxx.com.au\gd_iis_intermediates.p7b
    e:\server.xxxx.com.au\server.xxxx.com.au.crt
    e:\ssl\2013-2018.cer
1st Message is about a Proxy certificate I dont get this often but saw it today and my client clicked ok too quickly.
I have seen it and didnt see it again after trying to close outlook and reopen
I looked up google images and tried to find it...
It's like this, (There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.
The security certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority.)
2nd Message is about Security Alert, Autodiscover.xxxx.com.au Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the sites security certificate.
-X- The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certificating authority
-TICK- The security certificate date is valid
-X- The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site
    Do you want to preceed
    [Yes][No][View Certificate ...]
3rd Message is very Close to the 2nd Message, is about Security Alert, xxxx-server.xxxx.local, Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the sites security certificate.

    Thank-You.

    Hiya,
quite a lot has the same confusions as you do, so I've written a simple explanation on the subjet of certificates

Let me know if that helps you and if you need further assistance.
