Macbook crashed after software update and won't reboot!
I have installed the latest updates on my 2.16Ghz, 10.5 Leopard, 1Gb MacBook through the software updater. There were 10 new udates inluding iTunes, Macbook security update and some for logic Pro.
The machine crashed with the 'hold the power button' type message which i did! after switching the machine back on, it boots into the Mac OSX setup assistant, so i assume i have lost my data? However, even if i enter all my details and complete the assistant, after clicking 'done', the assistant runs again!!!
I have applecare but they're now closed so i thought i'd see if anyone can help me out as i need it up and running asap.
Thanks,
Chris

Crashes after software updates
My MBP seems to pretty reliably crash after any apple software update that requires a reboot. I've not done anything weird to the machine, it's got the factory install from when it shipped (W8607), but after most (if not all, I can't be 100% sure) it shuts down, goes through half the boot process, then crashes with the screen telling you to hit the reboot button or hold down the power key for 4 seconds.
Other times I reboot it, it comes back fine, and nothing else has caused it to crash in this fashion.
Has anyone else seen this ? I send apple the error reports, seeing as first time it happened was the first update, and I was worried it might be something particularly troublesome.I'm not a mac geek expert (yet), but I'd hope/expect if it was bad RAM it'd panic at other times, or at reboot it'd actually report it as an error while checking it. Similarly with wifi, I switch it off and on often enough at other times that I'd hope there would be more instances and less correlation.
I attach the panic log below, and checking the install log, all instance correspond to shortly after a patch and reboot instance.

Most native apps crashing after software update
I did a software update, then tried using iWeb for the first time... I go to publish and crash, I go to open inspector, crash. Now after installing latest quicktime update, mail won't stay running, pretty much everything is falling down around me in terms of apps... I REALLY wanted to have a new website up for my sister's bday and now???? Today is it.... sob .....
I think I saw something regarding this issue in a Version Tracker e-mail giving latest news, only it is in my e-mail and I can't access it!Try repairing permissions.
Also, download the maintenance utility OnyX. I would do cleaining & maintenance to see what is wrong.
OnyX does wonders. -
Mail crashes after software updates
I'm working in OSX.2.8 and yesterday downloaded some software updates, including security updates. Today, both Mail and Safari won't launch. Mail starts to launch then crashes, and I get that message "the application has unexpectedly quit, the system and other apps have not been affected." Safari doesn't launch at all - the icon on my dock bounces a few times, but nothing else happens.
I have tried dumping the Mail preferences but the problem was not solved. Any advice would be much appreciated! All your mailboxes appear empty after the
conversion?!
Yes!
Which steps did you follow to upgrade to Tiger? Did
you do an Archive and Install of the new
system or did you do something else?
Er, no, I did not do Archive and Install. I just installed it via FireWire from my husband's computer, because my computer doesn't have a DVD driver. I didn't lose any other files though, just my emails.
Did Mail automatically proceed to import your mail
when launched for the first time after having
upgraded to Tiger, or did you do something in order
for that to happen?
It offered to import my mail, so I said OK.
How many accounts do you have and what type are they
(POP, IMAP, .Mac)? How is your Mail organized? Do you
archive it in "On My Mac" custom mailboxes?
I have three accounts, all POP. If by "On My Mac custom mailboxes" you mean mailboxes that I created, then yes, that's where they were archived. I was kind of expecting to lose my Inbox but not everything else.

Lion crashes after software update
Hi to all,
Yesterday a had a major incident. My Macbook Pro was updated with a Thunderbolt/networkadapter Update. When restart was performed, the MBP hangs during reboot and nothing happend. I started lion recovery, but nothing happend. The download was interrupted. When I ran disk check, my volume wasn' t found. So I had to delete it and (!!!!!) install OS X SL (!!!)
Does anyone made such an experience, too?
Can I reload my purchased OS X lion?
This happend right after the keynote from WWDC 2012. So APPLE wants me to buy the new MBP?
I am a little bit worried now: SL installation last for an hour. And on the screen it says ".... Only 30 minutes left" .....
Really a bad experience.....
Any comments appreciated.
FeinstrukturThanx for your replies.
Interesting, that some more peaple had the same issue. SO I don't need to relace the SSD. That was what I thought. Cause volume wasn't detected.... Anyway.
I re-installed Lion now and performed a complete software update. without any problems. Now I am recovering my Backup. (fortunately it is only one week old).
So I went an alternative way and recovered my MBP with loop way over Snow leopard.
Seems it works.
But what time consuming!!!! Damned, remembers me on my last XP-machine! Nights full of recovering frequently. And now my Mac? Hope this was an exception. Maybe APPLE wants me to buy the new Retina-one?
Keep you updated.
Is there any way to tell Apple officially that there is a problem with the update?
Aloha,
F. -

/Users/USER/Desktop/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
You need to move the Safari app back to the Applications folder. It's on your user desktop. Do this before updating your software.
Version:
5.1.4 (6534.54.16
Now update your software.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
That should bring Safari up to 5.1.5.
Restart your Mac aftter the update is installed.

IPhoto crash after software update
A MacBook Pro with Lion preinstalled was given to me as a gift for Christmas. The Mac App Store, on first load, had me accept an agreement for iLife, which failed the first time but seemed to work the second time. I fired up iPhoto (then at 9.2) to sync the photos from my iPhone, and went on with life.
Software Update then tried to update iPhoto to 9.2.1, but failed several times. A manual download of the update also failed, but the Software Update finally (seemingly) worked. However, whenever I try to open iPhoto it immediately crashes, and the App Store says that I have to purchase iPhoto.
Is there any way for me to get iPhoto back? I'd rather not pay $14.99 for an application that came free with my computer. No, unfortunately. Same crash report
Application Specific Information:

HELP ASAP! Crashes after Software Update Failure.
Last night, used Software Update on iMac to update to Safari 5.0.4, Mac OSX 10.6.7 (OS is now 10.6.6), Java for 10.6 Update 4 and iTunes 10.2.1. It took a long time to Update--about 30-45 minutes--was at "putting things in their place" (or whatever) stage, then Update unsuccessful. Tried again this morning but only updated Mac OSX. Same thing happened.
Safari works, Word works but Pages does not. Also get WebKit and Flash plugin fail messages. Computer is very slow.
Ran Disk Repair from Application-->Utilities. Must Repair Disk. Started up from install disk, ran Disk Repair, got "Invalid Node Structure/1 volume could not be repaired because of an error" message.
Restarted on OSX 10.6.6 and did Hardware Test: No Problems. Shut down and Restarted on 10.6.6. Restarted a few more times just for good measure. Same thing happening.
Big project due for work tomorrow--of course everything is in Pages.
I have a WD Passport External back-up which I've never had to access. Can I get my Pages files to at least print out from the back-up?
What do I need to do to fix Invalid Node Structure? Please, please HELP!I have a WD Passport Back up and it auto backs up every 30 - 60 minutes (can't remember what I set it at). I have Time Machine but haven't turned it on because I thought it might conflict with the Passport. I just tried to open the Passport and now it, too, is crashing.
Would turning on Time Machine mess things up if Passport is still working?
I did figure out a few ways to retrieve content from Pages. Attach the file to an email and mail it to someone who also has Pages. (My husband does but I think it's a diff. version because he can't ever open pages files I email to him.) The other way is to highlight the file in the folder, go to Finder-->File-->Quick Look. It will open a window with a readable version of the file, however you can't do much else with it--like print it. I took a screen capture of my file and then printed it out. Eureka!
But my computer is still screwed.
Thanks for all of your help! Let me know about turning Time Machine on. -
Photoshop crashing after Software Update
HELP!!!
After I did the software update, everytime I try to save a file i'm working on in photoshop, the program quits, and the file I try to save becomes corrupt and I can't open it.
G5 Dually Mac OS X (10.4.6)Hey rmillsnyc where is there a thread on this topic ? I searched the tiger update threads and didn't find one, easily. You are not being particularly helpful, ie maybe give a link to the topic etc. You see recently Apple changed the layout of the discussion forum pages and made a limit of 15 topics per page which makes the site , generally more difficult to browse, and much less negative from Apples point of view: Much less problems per page !!. This is not a photoshop problem it is a Tiger problem as usual, therefore it should be right here. I browsed 9 pages and didn't find it, so it seems I'll just have to wait until 10.5.2 Great !!*%£@£@!@££

Sony xperia L crashes after software update to 15.3.A.0.26
I updated my Sony Xperia L C2104 yesterday to 15.3.A.0.26. Now, since today evening after an update through Google play store, Google + and chrome keep crashing and forcing the phone to reboot. The phone doesn't actually reboot completely but the screen blacks out for a couple of seconds and then it shows the loading screen, like when we switch on the phone, and then the screen turns on again in lock screen mode.
I tried to reboot the phone in safe mode, but that too is not happening. I also removed the battery, sim card and the memory card and put it back in again but the phone still is facing the same problem.
Solved!

Finder freezing after software updates and uninstalling
Help!!!
I updated iTunes,Safri and an secriuty enhancement as the automatic reminder, it hang up at disk optimizing(77% competed) after installation, I had to forcely shut down, then I uninstalled several unnecessary softwares.
Then the finder froze, I failed to open any software, the coloured cursor keeps rolling and rolling.
But the folder operation is functioning.
What should I do?
Help!!
JunxingI don't have an answer to fix your problem unless you have your hard drive backed up onto another hard drive, but the answer would of course be obvious if this were the case.
I would like to point out that everybody that has a computer, laptop or desktop, should have their entire hard drive backed up onto another hard drive. It should be considered as a requirement, not a luxury.
Next, before ever installing a software update, you should run the "Repair Disk" function and also the Repair Permissions function of the Disk Utility app, from the install DVD. If there is corruption in your disk directory and you go ahead and install a software update, all manner of problems may arise.
I never let the software update Install automatically. I always download the update software, then do the preventive disk repair, permissions repair, then do a fresh backup of my entire hard drive, then run the update software's installer. Now if anything goes amiss, I am not out a thing, and I am in a good position to troubleshoot. So far I have never had any problems with any updates but this method will pretty much make sure that if you do ever have a problem you are not in any trouble. Just restore from your current, fresh backup. -
After software update and restart, acts like it's a new install?
Greetings All,
After doing the recent software update on my son's 20" iMac C2D machine, I did the restart and once it reboots I get the "quick start" page as if it were a new install of Leopard and nothing were no user accounts set up. I can restart in target disc mode and connect to the iMac with my MBP, everything is still there, including all the recent files on the desktop. The Time Machine back up is also in tact.
Why can't it see the account and boot up? Any way to boot from the Time Machine back up? Any help is much welcomed at this point as my son needs to do some school work tonight.By "quick start" do you mean the Setup Assistant that, among other things, lets you setup the first user account? If so, go with it. When you get to setting up that account, ensure that the "short name" exactly matches the name of the lost home folder. The new account will "adopt" that folder & you should be back in business.
FWIW... an alternative would be to setup a temporary account like "test". Once you have access to the system, you'd go to SysPrefs->Accounts and add a new user whose short name, again, matches the name of the home folder you want. In this case, it will say that a folder with that name exists & ask whether you want to use it. This method is useful if you can't remember the exact name of the folder in question - you can open the Users folder and copy the name letter for letter.
